So I'm something of a wizardling and lately I've been learning runes. The book I have stresses that I should practice interpreting the runes by doing readings for imaginary people, so I had the fun idea to use them for DnD. Basically, my nephew would decide what he wanted to do, and instead of rolling dice I pull a rune and decide what happens next by interpreting the rune. Shit. Got. Wild. In short, my nephew: -met a one eyed old man looking for someone to go a'viking with. -punched another viking who wanted to go, revealing that they were two dwarves in disguise. -Lost his hand trying to wrangle a shark to pull his longboat. (still succeeded) -Defeted the lands giant elk guardian by tricking it onto the boat and shoveing it off to sea. -Pilaged and Plunderd <3 -got charmed by a sorceress, which led to him hanging upside down above a fire with the old man. (she got speared in the eye) -got his other hand crushed when he tryed to pull bricks out of a castle wall. -rescued a magic unicow. -slew a giant. (he got speared in the eye) -unicow claims crown and becomes queen. -unicow preposed to the viking that rescued her, he accepts and becomes jarl. This has been interesting from a game design perspective, and it seems like a good way to learn your runes too.
