my unicorn archetrope is quoiluntary, meaning some of these traits are inherent to me, while some are more self-imposed. being The Unicorn is very affirming to me, it inspires me to be a better version of myself.

it is an archetrope, not a kintype; although sometimes i do have unicorn shifts (mostly phantom limbs like my hooves and horn) and have a set appearance for my unicorn and satyr/faun forms, i dont have noemata, memories or even instincts that a real unicorn would have, and thats how i know its not a kintype. i am not a unicorn, i am The Unicorn.

I'm a fictionkin of Klavigar Saarn. This is not an RP blog, it's just kind of a place to spew my thoughts/writings and also reblog things that I wouldn't otherwise post. Call me Saarn, and use hy/hymn, it/its, or she/her pronouns for me.

I'm also a rabbit therian. Purely psychological origin as I believe I imprinted on rabbits as a wee child. (we kept and bred rabbits in my childhood).

I am unsure of any specific breed or type, but I know I am a white rabbit but not albino. I tend to swap back and forth between wild and domestic. I am also considering snowshoe hare.

But until I figure it out (if ever) I'm happy just being a rabbit ૮₍ ˃ ᵕ ˂ ₎ა

alterhumanity examinations: heraldic unicorn

Heraldic unicorn; you've seen something similar in The Last Unicorn and in "traditional" unicorn art. I find that I identify slightly more with goatlike attributes than deerlike, though my tail is neither and is a point of pride. Most of the time I don't feel any connection to horse-tailed depictions of unicorns at all. I think my horn is quite large and curved, as opposed to a classical spiral horn.

I have noemata in this state that imply I have a bipedal form, and that I use it to spend time around...humans. Knights. I think my canon is Arthurian, after a fashion. I also feel a strong connection in general to the early Medieval period in the British Isles, so it could just be interest overlap.

In human form, I think the unicorn has golden hair and blue eyes and a too-white face. A little unsettling. I don't know if my horn is still there as a human, but I think at least my tail stays and possibly my back legs/hooves, too.

The unicorn is vain and arrogant, but not hot-tempered. I think...he's close to a celestial or angel of some kind. Lots of period-appropriate Christian imagery associations. Different-feeling from the paladin archetrope, in that it feels old and very sharp. Angel doesn't sound at all right, though, so I don't use it. I think it's the fact that the concept of a unicorn historically is difficult to extract from the related allegory.

One of my few proper straight-up kintypes. Psychological, like all my kintypes. Associated with my current religious beliefs but in more of an aesthetic way, as opposed to the paladin, who is associated in a more morals/ideals way.

Aesthetic; old churches in the woods, green forests, medieval Christmas hymns, tapestries and illuminated manuscripts and running water. Chestnuts. Wild deer. The fire of Pentecost.

so! little announcement! after a lot of thinking, ive realized that my unicorn kintype wasnt a kintype after all. it is an archetrope.

you might have noticed that i havent been talking a lot about this part of my identity, and thats because... i just didnt have anything to say about it. aside from appearance and some very vague unhelpful feelings, i didnt know much about my unicorn kintype at all, despite my best efforts. and believe me, i tried everything: meditation, journaling, freestyle art, force shifting... but nothing. i didnt get the faintest clue on what my life would be like as a unicorn: no noemata, no hearthome, no strange urges or diet preferences or even instincts. i knew i identified as a unicorn, but i didnt know what that meant for me.

until i remembered a term i had only heard in passing: archetrope. and it got me thinking. was i really a unicorn otherkin? did i really identify as a unicorn, or did i only see myself as the idea of a unicorn? was this the reason why i had been struggling with this identity? and after thinking a bit more, i am now certain that im not just a unicorn; im The Unicorn. a unicorn archetrope.

what does it mean to be Unicorn? for me, The Unicorn represents being wild, untamable, uncatchable. it means purity in the way nature is pure; chaotic, brutal and violent, but also, well, natural. The Unicorn is nature itself, capable of change but impossible to control, following only its own rules. The Unicorn is what i am, but also what i aspire to be; an ideal self.

something i want to do when i have a house of my own is to have a small indoor garden. at the moment i only have one plant, and although we love and appreciate Basil (my plant) in this house, she alone does not satisfy the Need i have to be surrounded by nature at all times.

being a unicorn archetrope means i have a very strong urge to connect with nature and become part of it completely. because unicorns are forest spirits, protecting the forests and all the creatures that live in them is something i feel like i have to do, like its my purpose in life.

as a hatchling i was always very protective of every animal that crossed my path. i used to catch and bring home insects and small animals, to my mothers dismay; over the years ive managed to catch and release butterflies, worms, ladybugs, snails, crabs, a pigeon, a cat, a dog and, on one memorable occasion, a baby seagull. i used to keep several bugs in a box with holes in the lid (but had to stop because the other kids at school were always trying to kill them to make me cry), and every christmas i would try to use my one present to ask my parents for a dog.

ive always cared for animals, so much that i decided to make it my career. as a student of veterinary medicine, my dream is to one day help endangered animals with the power of genetic engineering. to recover populations of species on the brink of extinction, to improve their chances of survival to current climate changes. it may not be the method a "real" unicorn would use in Ye Olde Days™, but i am a modern unicorn, so i work with what i have (and if what i have is all the technology the 21st century has to offer, all the better! :D). i will follow my purpose in my own way.

Hey there! I know anoneyemoose already responded with more information as well, but here's what we can add, too:

The therian community began completely separately from the otherkin community. The therian community started on alt.horror.werewolves in 1992, while the otherkin community traces its roots back to elven groups in the 1960's-1970's. Phytanthrope as a term was actually coined specifically by Darahagh of @liongoatsnake (AKA my partner system House of Chimeras) on a therian forum in 2013, while the fictionkin community started in 2001 through a webpage hosted on Otherkin.Net called Temple of The Ota-’Kin, where the predecessor term "otakukin" was coined. Theriomythic, another relevant term not included in the original list but which I'm going to mention because I love it, was coined in 2013 to be outside of or in-between otherkin and therian as a label, for people who felt themselves to animalistic and mythical but who did not fit comfortably into either term.

Nowadays, because of the ways these communities overlap and intermingle, many people use otherkin as an overarching umbrella term for all of these groups, but taxonomical arguments around sorting still exist aplenty because there's so many different models you can potentially use. If we go via history, then fictionkin would be under otherkin and phytanthrope could arguably be placed under therian; if we go via most common use, then they'd all be under otherkin; if we go via subcultural differences, they'd all be separate entirely! It can be tricky to navigate, and YMMV.

dragonkin - main kintype‌

my species is semi-digitigrade and quadrupedal, with half feathered wings and a long tail. my scales are steel blue with grey-blue plates on my neck and chest, with a lateral golden line bordering them on both sides. the feathered half of my wings is a very dark blue while the membraned half is grey-blue. i have spines on my back that go from head to tail, four claws on each hand and feet, two horns, and a mouth full of sharp teeth. i have a long snout that ends on a pointy beak shape and two long, very mobile ears. my eyes are golden with sliced pupils.

endermankin - secondary kintype

endermen are neutral creatures from the videogame minecraft, known for our height and our long limbs, our dark skin and our glowing purple eyes. however, i look a little different to how my species is portrayed in the game. my paws are clawed and look a bit like human hands, but padded and with longer fingers. my legs are digitigrade and very long. i have a tail, it's thin and very mobile, and ends in a tuft of hair. i have glowing purple eyes with darker, oval irises and no pupil. i have two fangs fused with my upper lip and two big long ears; my mouth is very rigid along with the rest of my face, but i am able to move my ears a little.

i am a more medieval unicorn, a white deer-like animal with a lions tail, a goats cloven hooves and beard, and a long, curved horn with spiralling grooves on my forehead. my form fluctuates from completely unicorn to a sort of satyr/faun, though the second one is more frequent and is the one that feels the most comfortable on my skin.

for me, The Unicorn symbolizes a wild spirit, untamable and uncatchable. it embodies purity in the way nature is pure; chaotic, brutal, and violent, yet undeniably… natural. The Unicorn is the essence of wilderness itself, capable of transformation but forever beyond control, adhering only to its own rules. The Unicorn represents who I truly am, but also what I aspire to be; an ideal self.

Weird question, when you say you’re EndermanKin, DragonKin and unicornKin(also hi I’m unicorn-adjacent!!) are they like combined or are they desperate ‘bodies’ you have?

Asking because my unicorn-thing is its own being, and do is my winged-thing form

im not unicornkin anymore im an unicorn archetrope, but yeah

my kintypes are separate, yes!! while im both a dragon and enderman at the same time, i usually feel more like one or the other at any given moment. they take turns, more or less.

though there are times when ill have a shift for both at the same time and it feels SO WEIRD, like im in two bodies at the same time. but this sometimes leads to funny moments when ill be the most bizarre mix between dragon and enderman, like a hybrid with parts from both creatures. an enderman with dragon wings, a dragon-centaur with the upper torso being an enderman, a creature with a dragon head and humanoid body... the possibilities are endless.
