I prefer the original art of Chapter 423. Making everything soft and gentle feels out of place? Especially for Deku.

This is fine. Deku looks slightly regretful in the new art. Paired with the dialogue, I can see him feeling reluctant to have to fight.

This is dumb. At least a more stern looking Deku gives the impression that he's got conviction. He wanted Shigaraki to stop, to end the cycle, but Shigaraki wouldn't, so Deku had to take it into his own hands. New art makes him look at Shigaraki with more pity. 'I felt really bad for you. I wish you stopped. The cycle...' Yet even with all the pity, he couldn't save Shigaraki.

This is awful!!! Hilariously so. Original art Deku looks like he's certain that it's all been destroyed. You can even see the hint of a smile. Trying to reassure Shigaraki that it has truly been destroyed. But new art Deku is like... everything from the dialogue format, to the look, it's all uncertain. Like he's a bit confused. Hasn't it been destroyed? 'Shigaraki, you're gonna die soon cuz i just killed you. it's been destroyed? go on, boy. leave. it's gone. just die completely already.'
I guess maybe it makes sense with the epilogue??? the unease and pain Deku feels throughout it. But—the epilogue isn't Deku conflicted over his killing of Shigaraki - he isn't, he accepted it and feels it was necessary - just that he's unable to navigate post-war life with all the loose ends (at least until he realizes the answer is 'let's keep reaching out when it's not our business societal injustice is not actually our business as heroes but we're so nice we'll take on the burden! Next time!!!')
imo. Original art is Deku at least looking fully upon the man he just killed and maintaining his conviction and respect for his opponent. New art is Deku pitifully telling a dying man that he's a sinner but there wasn't anything Deku could've done and he's sad that things had to be this way.
