They’re Not “Playersexual”, You’re Just Biphobic
(I was going to save this until September 23 because I thought that would be an appropriate date, but the Ask I got included in this essay just put me over the edge. So, here it is now. Buckle up.)
Bisexuality/Pansexuality is the attraction to people regardless of gender. About 4% of the USA alone (over 13.6 million people) openly identify as bisexual, according to Gallup’s latest polling. But unfortunately, bi/pan identities are so scary to some folks that they need to make up terms to avoid calling their favourite characters such. Thus, the term “playersexual” was born: a term to describe a game character who is attracted to the player character... regardless of gender.
If that sounds like it’s just a circuitous way of describing a bi/pan character, it’s because it is.
I first heard of the term “playersexual” almost a decade ago, from a Dragon Age fan complaining that Dorian was gay and thus it was “unfair” that she couldn’t romance him as female character. This fan said they wished BioWare would go back to Dragon Age II’s model of everyone being “playersexual” for “equality”.
Now, if you’ve actually played DA:2 and you’re not a bigot, you’re probably rolling your eyes just as hard as I did when I first read such a ridiculous statement. Well, prepare for this next one:
“When you make a male Hawke, Anders and Fenris are gay and Merrill is straight. Opposite is true if you make a female Hawke.”
These people are so afraid of bisexuality that they cannot even fathom its existence. They can believe in dragons and magic, but they cannot believe that a character is simply bi/pan. I find this especially hilarious for Anders, considering he had a canonical boyfriend, as confirmed both in-game and in The World of Thedas: Vol. 2 book.
I truly thought we were past this nonsense in 2023. I really, truly thought that. But then Baldur’s Gate 3 was released in full, and suddenly these same fuckers came out of the woodwork to bend over backwards avoiding calling these characters anything except bi/pan.
Note how in the above Ask, the anonymous questioner actually doubles down on avoiding addressing these two characters in particular as bi/pan!
“Playersexual” doesn’t even truly work for the characters of Baldur’s Gate 3 regardless, because the definition is oriented around attraction to the player character… which these characters are not exclusively attracted to. Here are some examples that prove otherwise:
If neither Lae’zel nor Astarion/Gale/Wyll are in a romance with the PC, Lae’zel will say she plans on propositioning one of the men for sex at the night of the tiefling party. She also flirts with Karlach in party banter.
Shadowheart expresses interest in Karlach, (“I like her. She looks like she could throw me over her shoulder and carry me to safety, should the need arise”) as well as Halsin if he leaves the party, (“he may have been misguided, but I liked looking at him.”)
Astarion flirts with nearly everyone in the party, but to just pick two examples: he mentions Wyll is the type of princely figure he used to dream about marrying, and says to Shadowheart “such a grim name for such a beautiful flower”.
Gale used to date Mystra. He also debatably flirts with Astarion by offering him some blood, after Cazador’s battle.
Wyll flirts with Lae’zel in party banter, and also refers to Halsin as a “delight” and “hunk”.
Karlach seems to have a little crush on Jaheira by the way she reacts to meeting her. She also says of Halsin, “everyone in this camp wants to climb that oak”.
Please keep in mind these are just a few examples I’ve picked out from screening through the dialogue, and there’s even more that prove the attraction to different genders these characters have is not related solely to the player. It’s just part of their identities.
In the Ask sent to me above, the anonymous questioner said they “cannot see Karlach as anything except lesbian and Astarion as gay.” This is just as bad as saying they are “playersexual” in my opinion, because yet again it’s erasing their bisexuality/pansexuality. Worse yet, it’s doing it because of the way the characters act. You cannot measure queerness based on actions and appearances being in line or not with queer stereotypes—it’s not a scale! And bi/pan folks are just as queer as lesbian and gay men, by virtue of simply being bi/pan!
All in all, I think this entire “playersexual” debate boils down to the fact that some people still refuse to see bi/pan identities as anything but “discount straight”. And that’s why people are rightfully angry when folks try to further this myth by pretending bi/pan characters don’t actually exist.

Hey thank you so much for taking my request but
If it’s okay with you can you make a yandere giant bakusquad x human reader
That is so scared of giants and when one of the bakusquad kidnaps immediately
Without the village knowing that reader has been kidnapped by giants taking reader to their new home
I hope you take my request if not then I’m so sorry for making you uncomfortable!!!
If you did thank you so much for taking my request!!!❤️
Yandere giant bakusquad x human reader!
A/n: it's finally done lord I'm tried and I hope you enjoy!
You lived in a small village with a bunch of huge walls blocking from the outside world, due to a large beast called giants you were told they were brutal and hungry beasts who invaded villages and devoured any human they lay upon, you heard stories from, your friends of how deadly these creatures were one friend told you they would impaled villagers on the stick and roast them like a kabob or stories about humans traveling into the outside world especially near their territory never to be seen again
There were very strict rules from the town leader for going in and out of the protected village one of the rules was to be back at a certain time or get locked outside which scared the villagers a lot to the point most of then wouldn't even step out or sneak out knowing the consequences it was like they Isolated themselves
you and some of your friends didn't believe some of those lies always wanted to find out yourself you were a very curious and exploring person as a child always wanting to explore even in the more dangerous of areas one time a guard caught 4 years you almost escaped giving your parents a heart attack and a very stern warning from the guards to them as the older you get the more stubborn you were the villagers would call you and your friends rebellious for not listening to the leader but you didn't care
One day you and your friends decided to play true or dare it was all wimpy and easy at 1st like pranking the townsfolk stealing some food and tricking people but it became very extreme until it was your turn to be asked "truth or dare" You wasn't a wimp so you picked dare "I dare you to go into the giants territory" your friend smirked mischievously while the others looked in shocked intrigued and worried, you were unsure of the challenge yes it was true that you have went outside of the walls before but going to the giants territory aka the paint forest was forbidden
You thought about it for a moment your friends stared at you, waiting for an answer "I'll do the dare" they all cheered one friend looked worried and scared "But you have to come with me" they all went silent gawking at your statement you can tell by their faces that they didn't wanna do it and was unsure of it but their pride overtook and accepted
Time skip
you gather your things like climbing tools, weapons, flashlights, food, and water the 4 of you snuck out of your houses and into the quiet night while the village was pitch black only the moonlight and stars shining brightly into the night, the 4 of you crept towards the big entrance which leads to the outside, a sleeping guard that was supposed to do its nightly duties was standing there to your unfortunate, so the 4 of you thought for a second on what to do, a girl in the group named Tasha grabbed a big rock nearby and threw it hard as she could to the opposite side causing a loud thud when it hit the ground that alerted the guard
He woke up in a cold sweat, swinging his weapon. "Who goes there?!" He barked as he flashed his flashlights at some bushes that were rustling, which gave you and your friends the time to quickly go through the entrance and exit the village, "we made it," you thought as you looked around your surroundings, and there in front of you were the giant's territory..the woods everyone including you stared at it for a moment grabbed your flashlights and walk down the path leading to the woods
The closer you get the more unsettling it gets.. the rustling of the bushes from the strong wind and the shadows of the creatures within the forest grow disturbing becoming sinister you even hear animals and creatures that you haven't heard or learned about before you felt your group getting scared Mike(another one of your friend group who was the leader) even started to grow doubts about this plan but you kept going you didn't wanna back down now, can you?
As the three of you made it in front of the woods you all stopped and looked up the trees were as tall as the trees back in your area rocking with the rhythm of the wind, you took a breath look behind to see your group one last time and walked in with your lights held high as they followed you, Josh stopped everyone and decided to make a plan to survive in the woods "Sasha you to set up a fire, Mike you go set up camp y/n and I would hunt" you looked back a bit reluctant "hunt!? In this area! What if we get lost? We don't even know what creature lurks here!?" "We'll be fine, promise, just get a few animals and come back to the camp. "You were about to reply until Josh quickly ran, weapon in hand "asshole.." you muttered under your breath as you cautiously looked around for any animals...
Time skip again
You walked over bored carrying a bag full of dead animals you hunted you then grabbed your light and started heading back to the camp until you heard a loud thud behind you making the ground shake you froze for a second quickly turning back to see nothing but the darkness surrounding the light you then slowly turned back and started walking only a bit faster that's when you heard another thud you turned again but nothing...you were about to turn around until a Hand grabbed you
You screamed trying to grab your weapon but the hand gripped you tight your body started shivering and squirming in desperation to break free from whatever was gripping you but to no luck "Aw how cute! Are you lost little one" You slowly turned to see a giant girl with pink skin and yellow eyes smiling and cooing like you were some pet or little child you stared at her already afraid but confused but you didn't wanna find out so you tried biting her which made her let go a bit making you fall but she quickly catch you "Hey now no biting!" She scolded, lightly, glaring at you. "Please don't hurt me! Just put me down please!!"
You started sobbing as the giant looked down at you in pity. "No, no, honey, I'm not gonna eat you.." she started trying to softly rock you and shush your cries. "Oi pinkie, what's the hold-up?!" Both you and the pink giant turn to see an ashy-blonde hair male coming toward her, glaring at her "shitty hair and dunce fade are already done, and the tape face is already back at the kingdom. What's the hold up with you? His eyes then lay upon your small shaking figure trying to hide from his gaze
"Well, you see, I got this cute little human while hunting and decided I wanted to keep it! Poor thing is dirty and beaten! We can't just leave it here!" Bakugo stared intensely at you while you shivered in fear you looked so small and fragile! He might not admit it, but he already adores you. He grumbled something under his breath, and Mina's expression brightened. "You gonna come home with us, sweetie!" She said as she skipped along following him ignoring your pleads and cries and yells for help
"We're here!" She exclaimed opening her hand out to make you see it was a tall castle that reached above the clouds and the village itself looked ginormous as well you were stunned and a bit scared by the size of the castle and at the entrance, a dark-haired male and another girl with short purple hair approached them "back so soon?" The girl spoke up, carrying what seemed to be a delicious dish, which you can admit spelled pretty well. "Yep, and we brought a surprise!" She said as she slowly pushed her hands towards gently opening them to reveal a small shivering little human curled up in a ball
Both Sero and Jirous's eyes widen, seeing something too small and defenseless, dirty and beaten. "Mina, where did you get them? And why they're bruised up? It better not be Bakugos doing," Sero said, glaring at the male. "My doing?! I didn't do shit scotch tape alien was the one who found them like this!" "I was hunting. There's nothing wrong with me. Can I please just go home!" Mina then started petting your hair with her finger, comforting you like you were a crying child and ignoring your little tantrums the 2 giants' gazes softened at the sight of you
"Let's get them inside and clean them up," Jirou said leading Mina in as Mina carefully held you in her palms Sero started to run some warm water in a bowl making sure the temperature was warm enough while Mina gently placed you on the sink you tried to run but her hand blocks your view "now no running it's bath time for you!" She giggled, reaching her hand towards you, gently and quickly, stripping you down to nothing "H-hey! What the hell! " You quickly wrapped yourself with a nearby tablecloth as your face turned red in embarrassment you felt utterly humiliated
They all stared at you for a moment, Mina gently pushing you with her fingertips to get in, but you scrambled away, clutching the cloth tightly. You weren't gonna bathe in front of these people, especially giants! "What's wrong? The water isn't the right temperature?" Jirou asked, sounding very Eager... too Eager "N-no, I-I just don't feel comfortable b-bathing in front of all of you..." "Well, one of us has to stay with you and help you clean, so you need to pick one!" Sero explained while the others stared at you wondering who will you pick
You observed every one of them, Mina seemed nice enough but a bit too clingy, and the other giant named Bakugo seemed scary so it was down to Sero and Jirou, your gut tells you to pick Jirou plus u felt a little safe with her more than the slim giant name sero so you pointed at jiu which she smiled making sero and Mina pout and whine while bakugo rolled his eyes she then ushered the 3 out making sure they were out of sight completely and shut the door behind them she then walked over to you with a sponge and cup in hand "don't worry ill be extra gentle!"
She then picked up a sponge and started scrubbing you slowly and carefully making sure no dirt was in sight you gotta admit it felt nice like you were in a spa you almost fell asleep which didn't go unnoticed by Jiro who was enjoying every single minute of your cuteness she then began to wash and comb out your hair with a large brush trying to get all the knots out then began rinsing you off with the cup which you cough wheeze and gag cause of the water "Sorry sorry!" She quickly apologized she then let you get out of the bowl as she looked away for a moment to let you wrap around in the table cloth once you were all covered up she gently picked you up and the two of you headed out the door into their shared bedroo,
You were met with the 3 giants again smiling excited to see you were fresh and clean "We got you some cute cozy little clothes for you to wear" Mina said excitedly holding out a cozy set of clothing you stared at for a moment wondering how the hell did they managed to make these so fast but your thoughts interrupted when sero pushed the clothes at you "go on wear em!" He said you smiled nervously as everyone stepped out for you to change you quickly changed into the clothes and it was a but big on you but it was pretty cozy, you then yelled out you were done as the 3 came in again
Mina squealed at the sight of you cooing and doting on you, repeatedly saying, you're so cute!" Or "I could just eat you right up," which made you a bit concerned. "You should thank Bakugo for the outfit. He made it just for you!" Sero said teasingly as Bakugo blushed, hitting the back of the man's head and earning an "ow!" From him "You welcome..." he managed to grumble out avoiding eye contact with you "Oh kiri and denki shoukd be here with the food any minute now! We can all have a dinner together!"
She said excitedly, running downstairs with you, followed by Sero following her behind and lecturing her to slow down when carrying you, "Kirishima and Denki?" You questioned yourself as the door swung open; answering your question, 2 males appeared, one with red hair and sharp teeth and the other with blonde hair as well, but with a black lightning strike. "We're home; sorry we're late; someone kept trying to eat all the rations?" He said as he glared at Kirishima, laughing sheepishly. "I couldn't handle it. I was hungry!" The boys were both bickering each other earning a bit of a chuckle from you being heard by the 2 boys as they glanced at you
"Aww who's this little one!" Kirishima said, reaching hid finger out to you, which you flinched and tried squirming away. "We found them in the woods! Poor thing was beaten and dirty and alone!" Mina whined as the 2 boys looked at you with sympathy. "No, seriously, I'm fine! I was just hunting for some food with some friends for our camp. I need to go back home and-" "Honey, this is your new home!" The blonde Denki spoke up smiling gleefully at you, you froze realizing that home was Impossible "n-no! My homes down there in thr village my parents could be worried and the leader coul get mad-"
"Oh please, your parents never cared about you anyway, and that leader of yours is cruel for leaving someone as small and fragile as you out," Bakugo said, rolling his eyes and earning a glare from everyone in the room. "Bakubro that isn't very manly!" The red hair-stated "yea! You should've said it more softer they're already suffering from the realization that they got abandoned!" Mina added as she looked at you softly, "But it's true, sweetheart. I'm so sorry!" She pulled you closer to her cheek as some sort of hug there was an awkward silence in the air Jirou "cmon let's get you nice and fed and then get you to bed" Sero then grabbed you and headed towards the kitchen with the others behind
You were served a small portion of spaghetti as the others chomped down and devoured their food trying to make conversation with you wanting to learn more but all you could do was stare at your plate realizing that there was no way to escape these giants who think you got abandoned and now you were treated as some sort of pet or whatever! This can't be your fate no way no matter how good the food and care are you want to go home to your parents to your hometown to your village!
"Alright, little crystal, it's time for bed!" The red-haired giant claimed as he took you upstairs to prepare you to bed, you were met with the shared bedroom again but this time there was a large doll house that was 2x the size of the house in your village Kirishima grabbed the key from the counter and open it up revealing a nice looking bed he then places it down in the counter drawer with a working mini night light seriously were these guys that prepared to have a human pet or something!? He then placed softly on the bed Sero tucked you in as Mina, Denki and Jirou kissed you on the forehead making you blush
"Goodnight, sweetheart, sweet dreams~" As they got ready for bed, you then realized that this was your new home and this was your new life from now on...you can never escape them. You were their little human...Their human and they were damned to let anyone take that away from them

Crush Pt 2
Donnie x gn!reader
Warnings: angst (once again just Donnie's feelings), comfort, fluff, human!reader inferred, swearing, NO TCEST
A/N: The requested part 2. I have so many Donnie requests right now, trying to space them out... I'm gonna go watch the FNAF movie today!!!
Previous | Next
Donnie sits in his lab, fingers strumming against the desk. He stares at the pile of parts you'd managed to find for him. The newest one made his head spin, it could only be found in the Hidden City, this meant you went down to find it for him. You probably had to go to a bunch of places to get one in such good condition.
But you couldn't possibly have a crush on him. His brothers were imagining it.
Leo pointed out that you started wearing purple. Which of course Donnie noticed, but he tried to say that maybe you just liked it. Raph followed up with saying that you hardly ever wore purple before now.
"Its a sign" So Mikey and Leo said.
Donnie wasn't buying it.
Mikey pointed out that you were wearing lighter purples which are associated with with light-hearted, romantic feelings. He also brought attention to the fact that Donnie also started wearing lighter purples. Which Donnie quickly turned attention away from.
⋆。 ゚。☁︎👾。 ゚。⋆
"Why won't you even consider that they might actually have a crush on you?" Leo asks as he lounges in Donnie's lab while he works.
"It's simply out of the question." Donnie answers, as it that was a good enough answer. He looked at his twin for a moment, seeing the look on Leo's face. "I have hardly any redeeming qualities. The ones I do... Probably shouldn't be considered."
"What the hell is that supposed to mean?" Leo sits up and frowns at Donnie. He rolls his chair over to Donnie, ready to give him a talking to. "You realize that you're actually likeable, right? We just joke around about each other."
"Sure, sure." Donnie rolls his eyes and turns back to his work. Unfortunately, Leo managed to keep him from turning, making Donnie face him. Donnie huffs and glares at Leo. "Just like the time you made sure I was taken by bats so I 'didn't ruin another mission'? Or reprogramming Shelldon to prove that my inventions suck?"
"Okay, that last one I admit was a bit far..." Leo sighs, looking at his twin with pleading eyes. "But you're my best friend, my twin. I wouldn't be sitting silently in your lab if I didn't like you, you know how hard it is for me to sit still and be quiet." Donnie smiles a little at Leo's last statement, letting out a weak snort, which makes Leo continue more passionately. "You're the opposite of me. In almost every way, but that's what makes us work. Sure I'm charismatic and insanely attractive... But you're mysterious, stoic, and fucking genius."
"And those are redeeming qualities?" Donnie asks, genuinely wanting to know. Did those things pull you to be attracted to him? Were those qualities really attractive?
"Absolutely!" Leo says, shaking Donnie a little. But then Leo stops to think for a second. "Well... They might think you hate them now."
"What?" Donnie replies, eyes wide. "Why? Did I do something?" He's panicking now. He had to fix this. He had to finally admit that you might maybe have a crush on him.
"You have been pretty... Guarded lately. You've been kind of blunt and mean to them, we've-"
Donnie stands up and rushes out of the lab quickly to resolve the issue. He quickly went to your place, not even knocking. He slipped in through the window, seeing you cooking dinner.
"You think I hate you?" Donnie asks softly, making you jump.
"I should really put a lock on the window..." You laugh anxiously. Donnie frowns at you for avoiding his question. "I didn't think it was out of the question."
"I'm sorry, that was never my intention." He murmurs, moving closer to you. You stare at him, a little shocked. He's apologizing? And sounds sincere? "I've been... Fighting my emotions. I guess I didn't realize I was taking it out on you."
"I don't understand..." You reply, brows furrowed as you look up at him. The look in his eyes is much different, softer than they had been recently.
"My brothers say you have a crush on me?" Donnie asks like he's wanting reassurance, wanting confirmation that these rumors where in fact true. You nod, even more confused. "I've been... Fighting with believing that... And with understanding how I feel about you."
You stare at him still, finally the pieces click. "Oh..." You whisper in realization, adverting your gaze for a moment to collect yourself. "So that's what Leo's text meant..." Donnie cocked his head a little before you showed the text.
Mayday! Donnie is about to explode emotionally!
Donnie rolls his eyes at his brother's text, but then looks at you. "So... What does this mean for us?" He questions quietly.
"I would like to... Figure this out with you, if that's something you'd be interested in."
"Sounds intriguing... I'm in."

What are your guilty pleasure tropes?
thank you for the ask @sarafina-sincerity!
forced proximity of any kind
i've answered specifically about one example of this - marriage law fics - here, but the main trope i'm a slut for is absolutely, one hundred percent, without a doubt anything which requires two people who don't want to have to spend time together having to spend time together. with sexy results.
enemies-to-lovers
let's all be honest, one's emotional investment in one's enemy is often more profound than in one's friend. let's also be honest, people become enemies because they have things in common. combine those similarities with the emotional investment? sexy results.
narrative mirror pairings
unsurprisingly, there's often quite a lot of overlap between this and the above. the harry potter series loves assigning its characters to narrative pairs whose roles in the story are the mirror images of each other, but whose personalities, dreams, desires, experiences, motivations etc. are often very similar. and the narrative mirror pairings which fall under this category are always exceptional: harry potter/tom riddle; draco malfoy/ron weasley (getting slept on because of drarry); sirius black/severus snape and so on... sexy results.
magical worldbuilding which feels magical
a lot of fan-fiction falls into one (or both) of two categories: it deals with considerably darker or drier topics (especially when it comes to thinking about how the wizarding state actually works and/or how it changes after voldemort's death) than the canon series; and it serves as a vehicle for the author to talk about aspects of muggle culture they enjoy (this is particularly the case in marauders fics and it drives me mad - none of those children have heard a single piece of cool music in their lives).
but the canon series feels so magical because the worldbuilding is incredibly whimsical, even in the darker later books. something is lost, i think, when wizarding clothing isn't ostentatious and colourful, or wizarding hobbies aren't exaggerated pastiches of muggle hobbies, or wizarding houses are devoid of eccentric kitchen appliances which talk back to you, or all wizards are immediately familiar with the muggle world. i can't express how much i respect it when authors invent their own radio plays or wizarding bands or children's toys.
and that whimsy can exist with a look at deep topics - indeed, it does frequently in one of my favourite literary genres: golden age detective fiction. in fact, i think it makes the dark themes and how they're being interrogated stand out all the clearer. which brings me to my next point...
allowing the characters to be funny
by this i don't mean crack fics - although crack treated seriously is definitely a trope i adore - but finding space for the fact that almost all of the main characters in the series - all the way along a spectrum from the main trio, to ginny, to sirius, to dumbledore, to snape, to voldemort (he's so camp! lean into it!) - are extremely funny, even when in serious situations or discussing serious things.
unfortunately, it is all too common to find - especially in things dealing with the immediate aftermath of either war - that everyone is in their widow's weeds and speaking like they've swallowed a psychology textbook. but actually, harry and ron aren't going to be sitting down for a deep and meaningful using all sorts of 'i feel' statements. they're going to be chatting shit.
[there's a bit of unsolicited advice here, which can, like all unsolicited advice, of course be ignored: this sort of therapy-speak, every-emotion-is-articulated conversational style is something which immediately gives away an author as american (generally, the sort of emotional openness which, in the usa, indicates authenticity will be read as the opposite in the uk - being very earnest is typically perceived as rude, expressing your emotional reaction to everything as fake). if you're looking for a way to make your writing sound more british, the best thing you can do is read ron, and see - as @whinlatter says in this post about him - that his sense of humour isn't evidence of immaturity or an unwillingness to confront tough topics, but evidence that he's the most emotionally mature of the trio. by quite some distance.]
ron and dumbledore being allowed to be real people
i loathe ron and dumbledore bashing. let my kings live.
and let ron be madly in love with hermione. his final form is wife guy.
redemption
i am a villain enjoyer, and i think there's nothing wrong with liking characters who remain unambiguously, unrepentantly evil.
what i like rather less is the idea that villains don't have traits, emotions, experiences, and motivations which aren't anything other than similar to the good guys.
and what i like least of all is the idea that there are some people who are so divergent from the good guys that they are unworthy of one of the most sincerely magical human abilities: the ability to redeem oneself.
yes, even draco malfoy, even snape, even voldemort. unless all of us are capable of redemption then none of us are. this is an important lesson to learn.
how these people redeem themselves, how redemption is complex and painful, how they atone, how they cope with the unmooring experience of forgiveness, how they take to their second chances, and how they stumble on the way are the topics of some of the best fics i have ever read, and i will never get free of the chokehold.

i don't mind trapper leaving hawkeye a kiss. after his own aborted going home party i think all that needs to be said is said (hawkeye: you made it bearable) and that goes both ways.
i think this is controversial rather than unpopular and the thing that makes it controversial is ye olde ship war. it's unfortunate that in recent years such a ship war has emerged because from what i can tell pre-2020 on tumblr and ao3 at least, a lot of people actively shipped both traphawk and beejhawk and the balance of fanwork for both was somewhat equal and things were a lot more peaceful lol.
and that's not to say i haven't fired a few shots of my own, because i definitely have, but they've been almost entirely reactive. i can and usually do talk about traphawk without even touching beejhawk. i'm also a multishipper til i die and actively ship beejhawk.
anyway i mention all of this because, i think it's generally assumed that people who share your opinion, myself included, are traphawk shippers whereas people who condemn trapper for the kiss/no note thing are generally assumed to be beejhawk shippers. and that's... obviously not true lmao because i ship both and so do lots of other people who fall on either side.
however no matter what argument i present and what facts its based on, i'm either extremely right or extremely wrong not based on what i've said but by what people assume my ao3 history looks like. it's just shipping so whatever, but it still limits discussion.
fwiw, i've seen plenty of fleshed-out arguments like the one your making, many which observe the entirety of trapper and hawkeye's relationship across three seasons. on the opposite side of the debate i've seen comparatively simpler statements: trapper didn't leave a note, fuck that guy.
also i think it's obvious, but i agree with what you're saying. i'm sure i've written about it somewhere so i won't repeat myself but if i can find the post i'll link to it.

3. if you are confused on anything, please don’t hesitate to message me since i know this whole thing is so confusing
“If you can, please send a grade one sorcerer or higher but that won’t be necessary if I don't die,” you sternly commented, leading both Fushiguro and Ijichi to shiver at the statement you just announced.
Still shaken at what you had just said, Ijichi sent himself off before closing the window to prevent any cold raindrops from coming at him as he drove away from the area you and Fushiguro were standing in right now.
“If you don’t want to listen to me, I ain’t going to listen to you at all then Fushiguro,” you stated with a frown painted on your face before looking back at the building behind his body.
Taking your katana, you looked at the bottom of the handle to find a metal loop at the bottom with a red charm tied before it was simply slowly unwinded by you as you prepared for the worst that was about to come.
“What are you doing L/N?” Fushiguro asked in a worried tone, causing you to turn to look at him with a deadpan expression.
“Just preparing for the worst Fushiguro”
ꕥ
The rain was still unsettled as you stared at the building of the detention centre that was in front of you with a nonchalant look present on your face. Carefully, you hook your katana on the side of your left hip rather than the usual spot of your back since you knew you were going to need extremely quick access to your weapon if your prediction of what was going to happen was going to become a reality.
Suddenly, there was a swift but noticeable change in the air causing you to grab Fushiguro’s sleeve to pull him closer to you in case of any attacks that would happen since he was standing behind you, out of your central view.
“The Innate Domain’s closed off, the special-grade is dead!” Fushiguro stated to you in a shocked but quiet tone, causing the grip you had on his sleeve to tighten since the feeling in the pit of your stomach was becoming agonising to the point where you wanted to vomit it out.
Yet, you weren’t fearful for yourself but rather the wellbeing of the shikigami user behind you and the classmate, who was still inside the building at this current moment in time.
“We just need Itadori to return safely now,” Fushiguro hopefully whispered, yet you had given no response since you knew that the chance of the mentioned classmate coming back with himself out rather than Sukuna was extremely low.
“That’s almost impossible, from what I can recall, him and Sukuna haven’t even agreed to a bi-” you began to explain, only for a sudden aggressive presence to stop you in your tracks to which Fushiguro also felt as you both froze on the stop you both were standing in right now.
“Sorry, but he’s not coming back”
A familiar voice from behind you spoke leading to both of you and Fushiguro to freeze on the stop before you came to the sense that what you had predicted was proven right. However, you didn’t foresee that he was coming straight to the both of you, even when he had threatened it clearly before Fushiguro dragged you away to search for Kugisaki.
“Don’t be so frightened, I’m in a good mood right now, let’s chat for a bit,” Sukuna calmly mentioned as he processed to make his appearance in front of you both since you refused to look in the opposite direction.
“This is what he gets for trying to use me without any kind of pact, feels like he’s having some trouble switching back,” Sukuna pronounced as he turned to the side.
‘To be honest, it was surprising for him to switch back after eating the finger without the pact’ you thought before letting out of Fushiguro’s sleeve once you was comfortable that he was out of harm's way, ‘besides that should be enough cursed energy for now,’ you internally spoke before taking a quick glance on the same area where you hand was as you processed to place the same hand on the handle of your katana.
“Still, though it’s only a matter of time,” Sukuna stated, as he gripped onto Itadori’s school jacket before unexpectantly ripping into shreds to showcase his muscular upper body, revealing the strange back marking he adorned on his chest.
“So, I thought about what I can do right now,” the King of Curses uttered before raising his hand to suddenly puncture a hole within the middle of his check, shocking both you and Fushiguro from his gruesome action as hints of blood started to pour from the corner of his lips.
‘Shit! I haven’t finished preparing,’ you pondered in a panic manner, as your hand was still on your weapon’s handle, transferring some of your cursed energy to your katana, making sure it had reached to the tip of the blade within the wooden casing for what you were planning to execute.
“Wh-what are you..” Fushiguro stuttered as he looked at the scene in complete horror, only for a massive pool of blood to pour in the middle between Sukuna’s legs before forcibly ripping out the most vital organ needed for Itadori to come back alive.
“I’m taking this brat hostage,” Sukuna declared, as he proudly and sadistically presented the heart he had taken out to you and Fushiguro, causing you to internally become repulsed at the scene since you still needed to concentrate shifting a tiny amount of cursed energy needed to your katana.
“Hostage?!” Fushiguro snarled as he shifted back slightly.
“Yeah, I can live without this, but that ain’t true for the brat,” Sukuna informed you and Fushiguro, as he then tossed the heart to the side like it was a piece of trash he needed to get rid of quickly.
“Switching out with me means he dies. Also, for good measure,” Sukuna mentioned before revealing a finger in his hand causing you to look at the cursed object he had just now swallowed with widened eyes.
‘I thought it wasn’t his finger that the special-grade curse consumed! Fuck!’
“With that, I'm free as a bird, you can be frightened now, I’ll kill you both for no particular reason,” Sukuna declared as he flexed his hand leading you to rapidly unleash your blade from its black wooden casing for the first time since the unfortunate day as you were now prepared to fight against the King of Curses.
“Our positions are reversed now,” Fushiguro muttered under his breath (to which you heard) before he determinedly looked at the curse right in front of him as he positioned himself in a fighting stance causing a wave of anxiety to consume you.
‘One of his divine dogs are already down, if he risks another shikigami, that possibly will also get destroyed in the process’
“You just don’t get it, he’s..Itadori’s coming back even if that means he’ll die, that’s just who he is,” Fushiguro determinedly stated while staring down at Sukuna.
“You give him too much credit, this guy’s just a little tougher and denser than other humans” Sukuna countered back with a smirk on his face before processing to wipe off the blood staining his lip with the back of his hand.
“Just a moment ago, he was scared out of his mind, on the verge of death and prattling on about his regrets and all that nonsense, I know for a fact he doesn’t have the guts to kill himself,” Sukuna taunted as he smiles smugly at both of you.
‘A special-grade has the ability to used Reserve Cursed Techniques, so it wouldn’t be hard for him to use it on his heart, I just need to slide down somewhere around his chest area to force him to do that’
Shifting your eyes to the side, you noticed Fushiguro’s hands were shaking leading you to internally sigh since you knew he was thinking the same idea as you, while probably debating the fact on how he could make Sukuna revive his heart before Itadori switches back as well as how he was going to battle against a special-grade.
“Should I make the first move then?” you rhetorically asked, before swiftly throwing your katana towards Sukuna like it was a spear, only for him to dough the weapon even at its immense speed.
“You think that was going to hit me?! Maybe you ain’t the fighting type as I suggested!” Sukuna roared in amusement, not noticing how you seemingly suddenly grabbed onto thin air (like you were holding onto a hanging support handle on a bus) before pulling your arm back in a fast motion, resulting in the attacking blade unexpectedly return back to you as quick as it was thrown, for it to then slash a massive slit on Sukuna’s cheek causing the curse to look at you in complete surprised before you swiftly moved forwards towards him, grabbing the handle of the travelling blade to attempt to slash down on your targeted area, only for Sukuna to dodge as quickly as he could.
‘Damn, but that should be fine for now’
However, before you could even attempt to get another chance of getting a slit around his check area, you heard incoming footsteps from your side leading you to deck down as you suddenly saw a leg swing above your head, indicating to you that Fushiguro had made a move to attack the cursed vessel, yet once again Sukuna managed to dodge against as well as the incoming punches that came along with Fushiguro’s attempts.
“Interesting, not only the girl managed to injure me but you use shikigami, but you’ll still come at me yourself?” Sukuna questioned, as he seemed amused at both of you and Fushiguro.
However, before he could mention another word there was a light pressure placed on his right shoulder causing him to turn back, only to find you in a lower stance with your index and middle finger to be pressed upon his shoulder blade.
“Destructive Curse Spell number four: Byakurai,” you chanted, before a high-density of cursed energy was discharged from the tip of your index finger to form a concentrated bolt of lighting leading it to pierce a noticeable hole on Sukuna’s shoulder surprising him as well as Fushiguro, since you angled it well away from him getting hit before you once again attempted to swing your katana down upon his back to execute your plan only for him to dodge it come again.
‘Fuck sake! You make it so easy to hit you the first time but when I want to slice you down, you suddenly dodge it!’
However, before you could use another cursed spell, a shikigami made its way to attack Sukuna leading you to discover it was Nue only for Sukuna to once again avoid the strike of its sharp talons before Fushiguro aims to get a hit at Sukuna, only for the King of Curses to block them with his arms. Yet you couldn’t help but internally smile the second you saw the wrist that you were holding onto earlier had made contact with Sukuan’s arms.
‘If plan A doesn’t work out, B will do just fine for now’
However, your hint of internal happiness quickly ended once you saw Fushiguro take a hit from Sukuna’s fist causing hints of blood to escape from his mouth leading you to quickly stand up straight as you rushed over to the scene. Yet, before you could even attempt to attack the curse again, you felt a presence underneath you causing your body to instinctively move again before a large snake appeared from the ground catching Sukuna within its mouth lifting him in the air as he was stunned with surprise at the fact of his sneak attack.
“Gang up on him!” Fushiguro yelled out to his shikigami, leading Nue’s wings to surround itself with purple lightning as it attempted to land a hit on Sukuna, only for him to duck at the right moment before it tried again, only for it to have the same result.
“Fushiguro, deactivate the snake now before it’s destroyed!” you screamed at your fighting partner. However, before he even got the message you suddenly saw fragments of what seemed to be the snake’s skin falling down in front of you before noticing Sukuna was already behind Fushiguro, tightly gripping onto the back of his dark blue sorcerer jacket.
“Hey, what did I just say? Let’s use the open space!” Sukuna shouted, before aggressively flinging Fushiguro up in the air before following the sorcerer himself, leaving you behind to witness his inhuman strength.
‘Shit, they’re going to get to the edge of the evacuation area!’
Reaching into the depths of your skirt pocket, you quickly pulled out a long, white cloth before letting it spin around you at a large radius as it slowly began to enclose the gaps that were making you visible to the world.
‘Sentan Hakuja,’ you internally chanted before the cloth coiled you complete before speedily teleporting you in front to what seemed to be like a construction site or an abandoning building, you weren’t quite sure. However, what you were sure of was that Fushiguro and Sukuna hadn’t noticed that you had arrived despite the vast entrance you had made from your cursed technique - but what you were most afraid of was the fact the Nue was gone, causing you to worry at the fact that now that shikigami was destroyed.
“What a waste of talent, but the girl back at that place, she knows how to use her technique extremely well,” Sukuna announced, causing Fushiguro to look at the King of Curses in both confusion as well as frustration at the fact he had mentioned you, worried if he was about to get killed, Sukuna would hunt you down next.
“Whatever, either way, that won’t be enough to fix this, you’re risking your life over stupid shit,” Sukuna stated as he pointed the hole on his chest. However, it seemed like you had enough of the conversation.
“Activate!” you yelled out before stabbing your katana to the ground, causing both males to turn around to finally notice you. However, it was too late for Sukuna to have the opportunity to counter what you were doing as he felt something restraining his arm’s movement before noticing what seemed to be a blue web-like strand attached to both his shoulders, yet when he turned to you, you seemed to be in the same situation but with one arm free.
“L/N!” Fushiguro yelled out in a panic before noticing that you were not at all afraid but rather calm despite the situation that you both were in now.
“What is this?” Sukuna questioned, as he observed the web-like structure you had created only for you to glance at him with a deadpan expression on your face.
“It’s just a simple web I created from pure cursed energy that is retaining the both of us right now,” you answered as you continued to peer at the confused King of Curses, who was trying to rip away from the strand-like he had with the shikigami snake, only to no avail as he struggled to move his whole upper body in general.
“How come? You didn’t touch me except for the cursed technique you used?!” Sukuna roared as he glared at you only for you to then let out a sigh of frustration.
‘It’s such a drag to explain…’
“I transferred some of my cursed energy to Fushiguro’s wrist as well as to my katana, so when they made contact with you, it allowed me to connect the strands of the web to those areas where you had been hit, also the protective spell I placed on the back of Itadori’s neck before we went in the detention centre was surprisingly still intact, allowing me to track you and the chain at the end of my katana to restain you further,” you thoroughly explained, before clicking your fingers causing the sudden but slow reveal of the long black chain (attached at the end of your handle - on the metal loop where the red charm was) that you had concealed with your cursed energy to appear surrounding you and Sukuna at a large radius while the extra length was tightly wrapped around his upper body.
“That was how I pulled my katana back at the beginning of the fight if that’s what you were also wondering,” you commented, leading Sukuna to look at you with a larger smirk than what you thought his reaction would have been.
“You possess such intellect, such skill, such power and such talent and yet you refuse to go against me with your full potential, are you mocking me?” Sukuna asked, before laughing causing you to look at him suspiciously, yet you couldn’t let that bother you at all, right now all you needed was for Itadori to switch back even if he was going to die.
“Even though I technically didn’t save you, Fushiguro did but I would like to give my answer I guess,” you commented before running your hands through your wet hair trying to push away the strands that were concealing your vision slightly.
“I should have exorcised you back then, in fact it’s my duty as part of the L/N Clan to, but I know you’re a good person at heart Itadori, I knew that since the day I saw you back at school and probably Fushiguro saw that as well when he decided to save you,” you explained with a smile, as you began to notice the markings gradually disappear from his face and body causing you to slowly deactivate the cursed energy web that was immobilising you and Itadori while the chain that was coiled around him slowly began to loosen its grip on him.
“It was for selfish and emotional reasons but that’s fine though,” Fushiguro stated as his posture relaxed once he noticed that you were slowly lowering your guard, “I’m not a hero, I’m a jujutsu sorcerer, so I’ve never once regretted saving you,” he then announced with a smile on his face.
Suddenly, itadori looked at you with a smile on his face before turning to look at Fushiguro, who was behind him. “I see, you really are smart, Fushiguro, Gojo, you’ve put more thought into this than I have,” Itadori mentioned with a smile, as he pushed his hair back, “I think your conviction’s a proper one, but I don’t think mine is wrong, either,”.
Suddenly, more blood started to drip down from his wound causing you to move forwards to make sure that Itadori didn’t fall down completely. “Oh, sorry, I’m almost done for, guess I won’t have to worry you guys, Kugisaki, or Gojo-sensei, live a long life,” Itadori faintly stated to you both before falling straight into your arms causing you to fall to your knees due to his heavyweight causing your skirt and high-knee socks to become soaked in the rain that already bathed your hair and face.
The rain only grew heavily as seconds went by, only reflecting on the disappointment and devastation that was coming from both you and Fushiguro, as you both stayed silent letting the rain consume you both for the time being.
Maybe after the rain, he might come back.
‘Please come back’

“So you had your suspicions?” you questioned your adopted father, as you leaned against the railing of the balcony, while he stood next to you leaning against the same railing.
“There was a special grade there, sending the first-years to rescue five who may or may not be alive is out of order, even if you are capable of exorcising it Y/N,” Gojo explained causing you to realise where this was going.
“So what you are saying is, since you indefinitely suspended Itadori’s execution, that got some higher-ups upset, leading us to go do that mission, in order for Itadori to be killed?” you suggested, leading Gojo to turn silent at your comment, leading you to get the answer you were expecting even if no words were exchanged.
“You’re strong though Y/N, you effortlessly fought like Sukuna was just a normal curse,” Gojo complimented you, only for you to give him no response since it was not a good time for you to be praised.
You failed at saving Itadori.
“As a special grade like your father, I need you to look out for Megumi and Nobara for a while, train them to the best of your abilities since we got an event coming up!” Gojo cheered, leading you to present him with a glare.
‘What a drag...I really can’t be bothered to be in an event’
“I’m going to check on the others Gojo-sensei, I’ll see you later,” you stated before standing on the feet as you than processed to walk away with your hand up, as a way to wave him ‘goodbye’.
“Call me dad for once Y/N~” Gojo shouted, leading you to groan in annoyance before making your way to the entrance, where you knew Fushiguro and Kugisaki were since Gojo did take you away from them when he found you sitting with them on the stone steps near the entrance of the school.
After some time, you finally managed to reach your destination as you found yourself standing at the top of the extra steps above your classmates, before noticing a few new faces further below, leading you to become perplexed since you weren’t expecting any other sorcerers to come by today - well...that’s what Gojo said.
“Don’t tell me the other student died as well?” the female sorcerer question, leading you to look in her direction in confusion since she seemed a little familiar to you for some reason.
‘Ah, she was the person I saw when I moved into the dorm, but she didn’t really see me’
“I’m right here,” you commented, leading to everyone that was in your view to look up at your direction to find you standing with your arms crossed before you steadily made your way down the steps as you processed to stand a step above between Fushiguro and Kugisaki, who were still seated on the same spot they were in when you had left them for a few minutes.
“You don’t even have a scratch on you,” the female sorcerer commented, as she noticed you didn’t have any patches or bandages like the other two first-years had once you observed you.
“She’s a strong sorcerer,” Fushiguro commented, leading you to kick his back before commenting that he was a strong sorcerer as well.
“Ah! Are you the special grade, Gojo was mentioning about?” the large Panda asked, causing you to give him a glance before answering, “I don’t believe I’m a special-grade sorcerer but if that what my drag ass of an adoptive dad ranked me, then I guess I am,”.
“Who are you guys?” you then asked since it seemed like they had already done their introductions for Kugisaki. Although, it seemed like your female classmate was in the same sort of confusion as you since she noted to you that she had no idea who the fellow sorcerers were.
“Our second-year upperclassmen,” Fushiguro nonchalantly answered before he continued by introducing them to you and Kugisaki.
“Zenin-senpai is the best of all the students at wielding cursed tools, that’s the Cursed Speech user, Inumaki-senpai, he can only speak in ingredients of onigiri and that’s panda senpai,” Fushiguro introduced everyone causing some questions to manifest in your head.
‘Zenin ha?..she doesn’t seem like the one that my mum was talking about, so I don’t have to suspect her but is there anything else to add for Panda-senpai?’
“There’s one more, Okkotsu-senpai, who is the only one I can openly respect, but he’s overseas right now,” Fushiguro added, before slowly standing on his two feet.
“You’re not adding more about the panda named Panda?” Kugisaki asked as she looked up at the shikigami user to gain some information, only to be ignored.
“Man, sorry about this and when you’re in mourning...please forgive us for that,” Panda apologised before placing his hands together as a sign to be forgiven, even though that sign reminded you about something else.
‘Ah...that’s the same hand gesture for one of my cursed spells’
“The truth is, we’d like you to participate in the Kyoto Sister School Exchange Event,” Panda explained, causing you to recall about an ‘event’ Gojo had mentioned to you.
“Oh, that’s what he meant,” you whispered before Kugisaki interrupted you by repeating the event’s name in confusion.
“What’s that?” Kugisaki asked as she turned to Fushiguro looking for the answer.
“It’s a get-together with the other Tech school in Kyoto, though isn’t that event mainly second and third-years?” the erratic-haired sorcerer answered your classmate before questioning the invitation since all of you were first-years.
“And those stupid third-years are suspended right now, so you need to participate,” Zenin explained, causing you to look to the side with an annoyed expression on your face since you realised that this meant you had to cover up your tracks more than you were bothered to do.
“What do you do at this event? Smash Bros? I won’t lose if it’s the Wii version, I’ll Meteor Smash so you can’t come back” Kugisaki randomly mentioned with a determined look on her face as she formed a fist, causing you to look in her direction with a confused face since you didn’t know how she came to that conclusion in the first place.
“Then let’s make a 3-man team, the exchange event has the principals of the Tokyo and Kyoto schools each propose a form of competition to be held for an entire day over the course of two days, though that’s how it is on paper,” Panda informed you and Kugasaki, who were oblivious to what this event was in general.
“Every year, the first day is a team battle, and the second day is individual battles,” Panda explained, leading Inumaki to agree with him by saying ‘salmon’ as his confirmation to his classmates' explanation.
“Individual and team battles? We fight?! Against other jujutsu sorcerers?!” Kugisaki shouted after realising what the event really entailed, causing you to look at her before lightly smacking the back of her head.
“You just realised that?” you asked in a dumbfounded tone.
“Yeah, it’s a jujutsu battle where anything but killing goes,” Zenin confirmed with a huge grin causing you internal sigh at the fact that you had to hide the use of your cursed technique since that would blow your cover entirely.
“We’ll train you up well so you won’t get killed. Yeah, yeah, yeah!” Panda declared before he started to throw some air punched after every ‘yeah’ he said.
“Wait, do you have time for that? I thought we were short on jujutsu sorcerers,” Kugisaki asked since she concluded that there were only six of you right now.
“That’s a good question, For now, we are. The glim emotions people harbour from late winter through spring cause an outburst of curses in the early summer, so that’s our busy season,” Panda explained as Zenin then explained that some sorcerers are busy all year long, but since things are settling down soon, it should be fine.
“So, you’ll do it, right? You just had a partner die on you, after all,” Zenin asked, as she was waiting for all your responses.
“We’re in!” Fushiguro and Kugisaki simultaneously answered with determined looks on their faces before turning back to look at you, waiting for your answer.
Letting out a sigh of frustration, you knew that you had no way out of this since they looked so motivated for you to join, even if you disagreed with them.
“This is such a drag, but fine, I’ll join in too,” you replied with a small smile on your face leading them to nod at you before turning back to your seniors.
“But if I decided this training and exchange event is pointless, I’m quitting instantly,” Kugisaki mentioned.
“Same here,” Fushiguro commented, causing you to kick both of them on the back much to their surprise.
“So you drags make me do this event, only for you to dip when it’s pointless for you, besides I heard there are some interesting sorcerers in the Kyoto side, so prepare yourselves,” you stated before stepping down the few steps you were in front of before standing between them.
“Well, people this cocky are all more worthwhile to train,” Panda mentioned with his arms folded with a determined look on his face.
“Bonito flakes,” Inumaki said in a softer tone.
Looking up to the sky, you couldn’t help but brisk in the sunlight that was shining lightly down upon you, leading you to raise your hand over your face in order to not be blinded.
‘I wonder how I’m going to hide from this one now?’

Warrior Heart
Riven x Air Fairy Reader
Links: Chapter 1, Chapter 2
Flashback ~ first year orientation
You walked into the great hall in awe. You had seen pictures of the expansive room in the pamphlet, but it didn’t do it justice. For the first year orientation, the faculty had decorated the room with growing vines, pretty flowers, and delicate fairy lights. It looked like Alfea had brought the garden indoors.
Stella dragged you towards the drink table. She was wearing a gorgeous pink dress that was firmly the opposite of your black one. While had glitter and frills, yours was plain with gold beads as the only embellishment at the neckline. In your opinion, the neckline was its best feature. It was low enough to make your (nonexistent) cleavage look good, but not low to the point where it was distasteful.
You picked out a pink drink, something that looked strawberry-like and turned around. Unfortunately, you bumped into a person. Specifically, their rock solid chest. And my, what a nice chest it was.
“You know, you don’t have to fall all over me to get my attention.” Said the person. You looked up. It was a brown-haired boy with startling green eyes. He was quite handsome.
“If that’s your idea of a pickup line, I can’t imagine you’re getting much action.” You replied with a smile. He smiled back and held out his hand.
“I’m Riven.” He said. You offered him your hand, expecting a handshake, but he brought your hand to his mouth and brushed your knuckles with his lips in a kiss.
“If this is your idea of seducing a girl, I take back my previous statement.” You said, only half-joking.
“And what’s your name, pretty lady?” Riven asked.
“I’m just the girl who won’t fall for your charms during the first meeting.” You said. This was definitely a boy you wanted to play hard-to-get with.
“Well then, I guess I’ll just have to try again and again until you do.” Riven said.
“I think that I’ll be seeing you later, Riven.” You said with a wink. You dashed off to catch up with Stella.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Present
You opened your eyes, which felt grainy, as though someone had thrown sand into them. You were laying down on a bed in a dark room, and the only light on was a lamp that was pointing at your thigh. Your leggings were cut away at your thigh, exposing a bandage that covered where you had been cut. On the floor, in a bucket, were a couple of bloody rags.
You looked down at your arm, where a makeshift tourniquet was tied into place. Riven stood at his desk, opening something with a pair of scissors.
“Where am I? What happened?” You asked. Riven turned around to look at you. He was wearing a shirt that looked torn at the edge. That explained the cloth tourniquet on your arm.
“You came to me about ten minutes ago, covered in blood, cuts, and bruises. You tell me what happened, Y/n.” Riven said. Suddenly, everything came back to you: the suppressors, the attack, and your body in auto drive, walking you to Riven’s room.
“I was attacked by two people on my way to the Headmistress’ office.” You told him.
“Specialists. You were attacked by a pair of specialists. I recognized the knife you brought with you. It’s standard issue after you graduate and complete your specialist training. Why didn’t you use your powers to defend yourself?”
“Queen Luna’s scientists developed some sort of technology that blocks fairy magic. They are installing it all over campus. I was on my way to talk to the Queen when I got attacked.”
“It’s a miracle you survived. Two graduated specialists are almost impossible to beat.”
“Well, I got pretty banged up in the process, I guess.”
You took a quick inventory of yourself. You could feel your cheek stinging from a cut and there were other major ones on your neck, arm, and torso. Riven had already cleaned and bandaged the one on your thigh. You felt the bruises forming around your eye, where the man had punched you.
“I hope you don’t mind, but I had to cut off some of your clothing to patch you up.” Riven said.
“It’s fine, thank you for helping me.” You replied.
“Don’t worry about it. I just put some hydrogen peroxide on this piece of gauze. I need to clean the laceration on your arm and this will sting.” He said. You nodded and closed your eyes as Riven came closer. You hissed when the gauze touched your cut and killed of the bacteria. It was quickly over when Riven wrapped a bandage around your arm.
“I need to do the one above your hip next. I don’t want to ruin your sweater and shirt. Can you remove it?” Riven asked as he turned around to give you some privacy. You pulled off your shirt, too exhausted to really care that Riven would see your sports bra.
He turned around are walked over to the bed. He had a washcloth in his hand. Riven told you that he needed to wash away the blood and that it looked like this one would need stitches. He wetted the washcloth and gently placed it on your abdomen. You couldn’t help but feel aware of every time Riven’s callused fingers brushed your skin. Little sparks flew around whenever he made contact with you. It felt like some kind of torture.
“I don’t have anything to numb it with, so this will probably hurt.” He said. You turned your head away from Riven and stared at the wall. The pain of the needle came suddenly and you bit down to keep yourself from crying out. Riven put a bandage over the cut after he stitched it up.
“So, where did you learn how to do stitches?” You asked.
“I know how to do a lot of things.” Riven said. You rolled your eyes. Of course he would take this opportunity to crack a suggestive joke.
“When you’re a specialist, you learn how to patch yourself up.”
Riven cleaned and wrapped the cut on your arm and then moved to the deep cut on your cheek. He dabbed the hydrogen peroxide on it and then reached for butterfly bandaids. He carefully pulled off the backing and stuck two over the cut.
“Thanks.” You said.
“Are you hungry?” Riven asked. You nodded. You were really hungry. The adrenaline was wearing off and a feeling of weariness combined with hunger, pain, and exhaustion was settling over you.
“I think the cafeteria is still open. I’m going to go grab something for both of us. You put on one my shirts in the top drawer.” He said. Riven got up and left and you walked over to the dresser.
You opened the first drawer and did a double take. Sitting there, in the corner of the drawer, next to several piles of neatly stacked shirts, was a paper crane.
Hope you guys liked this chapter:)) sorry it took sooo long, school is getting rough
Warmth (B/lack S/ails, M)
Back again with everyone’s favorite boys! Or at the very least, my absolute favorite boys. I got a request about whether I’d do a fic where J/ames and T/homas are together, and here it is! Hopefully the first of many. Your honor, I love them. If you’ve seen the show, this takes place after the Kiss and the Dinner and before the 3 month stint to Nassau (feels like twice as long amirite?) and just generally around the time when they are by the window being all cute and smiley. Also another shameless plug for B/lack S/ails.
Thankfully, the worst of the rain had abated by the time Lieutenant James McGraw left the Admiralty. After a day’s worth of meetings in stuffy rooms with stuffier men, the cool damp London air could almost be considered welcome, were it not for the head cold he was brewing. At first a relief to his overwarm (and perhaps slightly feverish) body, the mist and sprinkles soon seeped deep into him, making his overcoat cling to him uselessly. He shivered, and sneezed (unfortunately) into a gloved hand when he could not retrieve his handkerchief fast enough.
“Hhh’RShhh!” He groaned and swore under his breath, rubbing uselessly at his left ear, which had been full and throbbing all day, and had recently started affording him sharp strikes of pain whenever he sneezed, which was unfortunately becoming more frequent as well.
The walk from the Admiralty to the rooms at which James boarded was short, ten minutes at most, for which he was grateful, even as the walk felt unnaturally long this day. He wanted nothing more than to just collapse into bed and sleep for a long while, until his ear stopped bothering him at least, and James spared a bit of thanks that he was under the weather on land rather than at sea. At sea any illness was always ten times more miserable.
He shivered again in the damp air, and wished there would be a fire in his rooms awaiting him. There wouldn’t be, of course, and the stash of coal he had with which to build a fire was pitiful. A lieutenant’s pay was scant and not to be spent much on worldly comforts, but perhaps James could justify dipping into his reserves just this once. After all, he was ill; he could feel it in his head, in his throat, in his ear, and he would be of no use to anyone in Her Majesty’s Navy if he were to come down with pneumonia.
Yes, he could justify building himself a fire, but what James really wanted, if he were honest with himself, was to be curled in bed beside Thomas, burrowed beneath a blanket with the massive hearth roaring its heat throughout the bedroom. The thought of such bliss brought with it such a desire that it was almost painful and dear God, it had been scarcely a month since Thomas had first kissed him and yet now here James was, seeking his comfort above all else in the world. He had never felt this way with a woman, never with any of the men whose release he had sought in dark alleys and corners, and the thought vivified him as much as it terrorized him.
But the Hamilton house was down the road in the opposite direction, and James had already shuffled nearly all the way back to the boarding house. He was wet and tired and tetchy from pain, and even if he could manage to convince himself to walk all the way to the Hamilton’s, he would likely be poor company anyhow. Besides, he did not want to give his cold to Thomas, or to Miranda.
James ascended the creaky staircase to the room he rented, removing his damp and heavy overcoat with a tight sigh. He pushed open the door to his room, only to find that someone else was already in it, seated on the bed reading a book.
“Thomas,” James said, and in his head he meant it to be a question but it came out as a statement on a relieved exhalation of air. His shoulders slumped and, though he’s exhausted, his smile spread fully across his entire face. “What are you doing here?”
Thomas had removed his wig and it sat on the night table beside the bed. He smiled as he marked his page and placed his book beside it. “Miranda pointed out that our rendezvous are heavily imbalanced toward our home, and suggested I surprise you here.”
James hung his coat on its peg by the door. “How did you get in?”
“You’d left it unlocked.”
Inwardly, James cursed himself for his oversight and blamed it on his stuffy, clouded head. “And if I hadn’t?”
“Brute force, I’d imagine.”
At the thought of Thomas, his sweet and gangly Thomas whose inkpots were sometimes too hard for him to pry open, attempting to bust down his door, James burst out laughing. After a little while, the laughter caught in his sore throat and sent him into a fit of coughing far hoarser and more scratching than he had endured yet that day.
Thomas rose from the bed instantly, frowning deeply. “Oh, darling. You don’t sound well at all.”
There was no point denying it after such ill-sounding coughs, so James merely cleared his throat and sniffled. “Bit of a head cold, I think.”
Thomas drew closer to him. “Come here,” he said, and reached for James’s shoulder to gently pull him closer. Thomas rested his forehead a moment against his, and James couldn’t help but sigh, feeling some of the tension drain from him. This was what he had been aching for.
Thomas pulled back slightly and caressed James’s cheek, his glittering eyes roving over every inch of James’s face. “Mmm, you’re a little warm, my love. I knew you seemed a bit off at dinner last night.”
James was forced to pull away and bury his nose in his handkerchief. “Hehh’IMPFF! Hehh’KMFPFF!” White hot pain shot from his throat to his ear, and he moaned quietly.
Thomas had him gently by the arm, rubbing his thumb back and forth across James’s shoulder. “What is it?” he intoned quietly, worriedly.
“My ear,” James said, cupping his hand around it. “Been hurting all day.”
“Oh, James,” Thomas said, pressing a kiss to the crown of his head, “go lie down and I’ll get you a warm cloth.”
James did not need any more instruction to strip from the rest of his dampened clothes and crawl beneath the scratchy bedsheets, still slightly warmed from where Thomas had been sitting atop them. It was only when he had done so that he realized Thomas had had a fire going in his little hearth since before James had arrived. James knew that one word from him about the money would result in Thomas spluttering guiltily and buying him enough coal to warm a small city, and so James remained silent. Thomas had already done enough for him, had done too much most likely, and anyway, James had been intending to light a fire himself.
Thomas soaked a couple cloths in water from the washbasin and hung them before the fire. Once one had warmed suitably, he brought it to James and laid it carefully across his sore ear. James pressed the cloth down, reveling in the gentle warmth it brought him, and coughed, the sound wet and congested.
Thomas hummed sadly and started stroking James’s hair. “My poor, dear James, it must be the stress of everything catching up to you.”
James yawned as widely as he dared, the combination of the warm cloth and Thomas’s ministrations already making him tired. “Must be,” he murmured.
“I’m sorry.”
Thomas sounded desolate, and James flipped on his back to look at him. “Don’t be,” he said firmly, knowing what Thomas was trying to apologize for. “Wouldn’t have met you otherwise.”
And it was true, for all the stress Nassau and Thomas’s father and their relationship had caused him, it had also given him genuine happiness, genuine love for the first time in James’s life, and nothing could ever erase that. For the first time, the yoke of shame that had weighed heavily on his shoulders was becoming lighter, the future becoming a source of an imaginable good rather than a nebulous grey. James would never let Thomas blame himself for anything, not when Thomas was the only thing that made such stress worth bearing.
James kissed Thomas’s fingers, and rolled back on his side. He repositioned the cloth over his ear, and felt Thomas return to brushing gently through his hair with his fingers.
“How does that feel?” Thomas asked, tapping softly at the cloth.
“Takes a bit of the edge off. Definitely much better than serving on deck in the cold. I don’t recommend that.”
“I’ll note that down,” Thomas said, and James could hear the frown seep back into his voice. “My heart breaks at the thought though, James. You shouldn’t be anywhere but in bed in a state like this.”
“What do you call this, then?” James said teasingly, gesturing at the bed where he lay. “I know it isn’t up to genteel standards but–”
“You know what I’m referring to.”
James matched Thomas’s serious tone. “Yes, I do, Thomas. But you don’t have to worry about me.”
“I don’t have to.” Thomas kissed James’s temple, then his forehead. “I get to. It’s God’s biggest blessing, having you here with me.”
James jerked away to bury his face in his pillow. “Hahh’RSHH’oo! Hehh’ISHHuhh! He’ISSSHH!” He sniffled heavily and winced at the pain that still coursed through his ear.
Thomas pressed his lips to James’s ear so tenderly, so gently, it was as if his lips barely touched him. “Would that I could kiss the pain away.”
“You may be the most wonderful man I have ever met, Thomas,” James said, sniffling, “but I doubt even you can do that.”
“I say it’s worth a try,” Thomas said. He pressed the same, featherlight kisses all around James’s ear and temple, and working down his jaw. It made James tremble, and not with cold. “After all, was it not just one of my kisses which made you mine forever, my truest love?”
In lieu of a proper response, James sneezed again. “Hhhh’ISSHH’uhh! Hehh’ISHH!” He coughed a bit in the aftermath, and groaned quietly.
“Is the cloth not helping?” Thomas asked, already ready to remove it.
“No, it is, a bit,” James said, pressing it down against his ear with his hand. “It’s just… my head aches.”
“Perhaps a bit of a massage, then?”
Thomas had scarcely finished the question before his fingers were kneading comforting circles, firm and yet not too harsh, on James’s pounding head. James had never felt something so blissful in his life; if possible, he felt himself sink further into the mattress with a completely undignified (and loud) noise. James could have never imagined someone would care that he felt unwell, let alone lavish him with such attentive and loving care.
“Oh God, oh Thomas,” he almost whimpered. ““Never stop that.”
Thomas chuckled lightly. “I will admit, this was not precisely the context in which I expected to hear those words tonight.”
The words made a knot of guilt form in James’s stomach; here he was being needy when he had weathered far worse than a measly cold all alone, and Thomas had come expecting a night pleasurable for the both of them. “I’m sorry I’m such poor company tonight,” James said quietly, remembering why he had decided against dragging himself to the Hamilton’s in the first place. He felt small and out of place and wholly undeserving of Thomas’s affections. “I’m sure this is not what you had in mind when you came.”
Thomas clucked his tongue. “James McGraw, any moment I get to spend close by you is a moment I will treasure in my heart forever. It does not matter what I am doing, only that you are there with me. I would sit by your bedside for a thousand years and I would consider myself the luckiest man alive to have spent all that time with you.”
James felt his eyes well with tears and he blinked them away, hoping to blame their wetness and his leaky nose on his illness. He swiped at his face and curled closer to Thomas. He was tired now, and tomorrow was for worrying and wondering, he reasoned.
“Well, I hope it doesn’t take me that long to get over this cold.”
At that, Thomas laughed, the sound light as sunshine.
chapter ii
pairing: bakugou katsuki x fem!reader
warnings: cursing. mentions of a bomb.
word count: 3k
summary: the internet is enamored with the idea of y/n l/n and bakugou katsuki, two renowned pro heroes, dating. the first issue? the pair rarely interacts. the second issue? apparently, they hate each other, not that anyone knows about that bit. of course, after one night of many mistakes, the whole world knows.
series masterlist
THE MEETING WAS NOT SUCCESSFUL. AT ALL. Or at least, that’s how it seemed in Y/N’s eyes. Seeing as the only thing that had come out of it was… spending more time with Bakugou. Which was the opposite of what she wanted to do at the moment seeing as she despised him. Y/N actually had a feeling that any further interactions with Bakugou would only end in more chaos. So, Y/N decided she would set to work, as she would any other day.
Ignore the problem until it goes away, right?
Slipping on her hero costume feels like a chore, pulling the gloves of her suit on with a grimace. They only served as a reminder of her inability to fully control her ability— though Y/N was known as someone with some of the most impressive quirk control. There was always that underlying feeling, of course that feeling never belonged to her. It had always been hard, shutting out the emotions of others, Y/N had found that those who feel the most strongly were the ones she would avoid.
Clearly she had failed.
Regardless, those emotions tended to be distracting as she went about her day. Y/N had learnt to ignore them, to block them out for periods of time, but in a career like hers it was unavoidable. The pain, the rage, the panic, the pure feeling of fear. It could get overwhelming and that often put her at a disadvantage. Emotions were viewed as a weakness, and oftentimes allowing your emotions to get the best of you resulted in unnecessary deaths. But allowing the emotions of others to do so?
It got even worse when she actually activated her quirk to its fullest extent. With a single touch, she could utilize the abilities of a person— all their abilities. When it came to quirks, if you controlled your quirk well, so could she. Otherwise, she would adapt the skills of a person, their intelligence, their athleticism, even their hobbies. Y/N could even the fact that she’d made it through UA to this ability. After all, she’d never been athletic, but her classmates had been.
But her setback had always been a pain, especially in battle, Y/N felt the pain of whoever’s quirk she mimicked. If they were shot, Y/N felt it as if she had been shot as well. She’d never experienced someone dying on her. Nor did she want to. But Y/N was capable of holding as many quirks and capabilities as she could handle— and pain added up very quickly.
It had been worse when she was younger, but Y/N had grown during her time at UA, and now she was capable of ignoring the emotions of others to an extent, and her pain tolerance had grown exponentially.
Y/N was grateful for her success, for the agency she’d been working at. She was not grateful for the looks she got on the way there, Y/N could feel the whispers of those who watched her enter as they walked past. Though she could only hope her own staff had more respect for her.
Her lips pressed together into a tight lipped smile as she entered, and Y/N found herself bracing for whatever could greet her. And to her delight, it appeared that everything was normal. Save for Lorelai’s presence by the entrance, her phone in hand. As though she had known Y/N had entered, the girl in question looks up from her phone before Y/N even has the chance to speak.
“We need to go over our plan, Y/N.”
In response, Y/N waves her off, continuing down the corridor. She smiles to those who greet her, mumbling back to them as Lorelai follows her. “Actually, I need to plan my first patrol of the morning.” She says, looking back to her friend momentarily.
“Then I’ll plan. And my plan includes a real nice fake dating scheme, kinda like those movies.”
Almost instantly Y/N turns around, glaring at Lorelai— who simply offers her a smile in response, clearly pleased with herself as she begins to move alongside Y/N rather than behind her. Y/N had no doubt that they would plan a fake dating scheme if it came down to it, unless she got involved that is. “So?”
“Well, the fake dating scheme was an actual option but you clearly don't like that.” Lorelai mumbles out in response, now holding a tablet as she guides them into a room. “Aside from that, basic press events together,” Lorelai looks up from her tablet pointedly, “where you actually look like you’re enjoying yourself, should amend the situation easily enough.”
Y/N raised a brow, taking a step around the long meeting table where those who worked at Hawk’s agency would soon congregate for their weekly assignments, “a little too easy if you ask me.” She looks to Lorelai, “Bakugou agreed to this?”
“I’m sure his PR team will convince him.” Came her response, shrugging as she took a seat on the table and crossed her legs. “We can do a public statement but there’s no real reason for making this a bigger thing than it already is. It would only end badly.”
With a frown, Y/N’s eyes drift back towards the window. They’re still on the first floor so it’s not like she’s seeing much, but it’s almost astonishing, how there are people just… going about their days without a single fear in the world. All Might’s downfall had eradicated the mindset but on days like these it felt as though not a single thing had changed. As though there weren’t still dozens of underground organizations planning horrid things, and there weren’t hero agencies like her own devising ways to stop them.
Hero Society was a fragile, and corrupt thing.
Y/N had watched as they threw children into every battle, she remembered when she’d been forced to do such things herself. She had watched her comrades, her friends, nearly die for a cause they were too young to comprehend. And she watched as civilians criticized them for not doing enough. Why did her publicity even matter? Shouldn’t that be the least of her concerns? Y/N found it funny that she needed to do well in polls to do her job well. It was the only real way to guarantee access to certain information that low ranked heroes didn’t get.
With a sigh,Y/N turns back, brows furrowed, “so when does this start?”
Placing the tablet beside her on the table, Lorelai rests her palms against it and leans back against them, “next week probably. Haru still needs to work out the details with the rest of the PR team and Bakugou.”
A small laugh escapes Y/N as she mumbles out, “it takes a whole team to keep that man from ruining himself.”
“Most Pro Heroes have a PR team, Y/N. You’re one of few exceptions.” Lorelai corrects, looking to her. It was true, Y/N was aware that more popular heroes often had teams of people coordinating their social media, schedules, public outings, and more.
Y/N tilts her head at Lorelai, “why is that?”
Lorelai raises a brow at her friend’s words, “what, you want to get rid of me?”
Y/N laughs once more, shaking her head, “no… it’s just—” She turns to face her friend, “when I hired you I couldn’t really afford anyone else. Now I can. But you do all the work by yourself.” Biting her lip, Y/N asks, “why is that? I could get you an assistant or something, easily.”
“Well you aren’t exactly the most problematic,” Lorelai responds, offering her a small smile.
Nodding, Y/N pulls out a chair at the head of the table, taking a seat, “but you also have plenty of other clients—”
The door opens, drawing their attention to the person who stands there, one of many heroes who worked at the agency., Pro Hero Telen, a simple hero name with an equally simple quirk. But his ability had saved them numerous times in battle. He pauses as he enters, “is it— is it not time for the briefing? Have I interrupted something? I apologize I can—”
He moves to shut the door but Lorelai simply hops off the table, collecting her tablet as she heads to the door and rests a hand on his shoulder, “don’t worry— we’re done here, right Y/N?” Y/N simply nods, and Lorelai offers her a smile, “be careful today.” She mumbles out, before turning back to Telen. Y/N doesn’t know what she says, but he pales and nods before entering. Shortly after, everyone else seems to file inside, and Y/N finds herself sighing as she spins around in her chair as she waits.
It would be a long day. A very, very, long day.
BAKUGOU WAS TIRED. He really was. Working at Endeavor’s Agency meant long hours, endless paperwork, constant cases. And right now he was assigned to the current big thing; the Stain copycat that had yet to be caught. Unfortunately, this guy didn’t seem to be an amateur like the rest. Of course, whoever it was, they’d primarily been attacking minor Pro Heroes, until recently.
Slowly working their way up the food chain of heroes until they ended up coming across someone who was relevant. It was inevitable, at one point whoever it was, they’d bite more than they can chew. Trying to take on a hero that surpassed their skills, whatever those skills may be— or they would slip up. Leaving behind some sort of evidence that would result in their capture.
The only issue was, there was no telling where or when this would be. How many would have to die before they were caught? Bakugou didn’t necessarily want to know, and it was his job to make sure no one ever knew how many.
A job he was failing. Alongside Deku, who had also been assigned to the case, it was a curious partnership but he had no choice to make it work. And his publicist had insisted that any presence with a hero like him would be good publicity. After all, most of the public knew about their little rivalry so it would make him seem diplomatic in a way. But Deku was…
“So… the gala, huh.”
Well, he was Deku.
“Shut up.”
Thankfully, they hadn’t run into any reporters, though he was sure someone had caught pictures of them on duty together. Which was bound to end either ridiculously well for him, or incredibly poorly. It was always hit or miss with the press and Bakugou despised the entire aspect of the job. It was the one thing he could admit he was bad at. He wasn’t the most approachable, meaning it was rare for reporters to approach him in the first place due to his renowned temper.
The pair was making their way through the streets of the city, patrol was normal but they were currently on their way to the police station. They were supposed to be collaborating with the police to handle this copycat, and for some reason Deku was… panicked. It was subtle but the guy had been practically sweating bullets since Endeavor told them they’d need to work with the police.
If Bakugou was honest this whole job was busy work. Why else would Endeavor’s agency be working on it? The Number One hero had to have better things to do. Maybe this was a punishment for what happened on the last mission they went on.
Bakugou frowns at the thought, electing to push those thoughts to the back of his mind as they come to stand in front of the Police Station. He finds himself bringing a hand to rub his temple. It was definitely going to be a long day. And he hadn’t even spoken to Haru about how the meeting with Lorelai went yet. Not that he wanted to know at this point, Bakugou had a feeling he wouldn’t be satisfied with any solution they proposed.
He really didn’t feel like dealing with any of this. So, Bakugou finds himself thinking that it might be time to use all those vacation days he’d been holding onto since he’d started working with Endeavor. They were piling up after all.
With a huff, he and Deku make their way up the steps up the police station, and Bakugou pushes the door open. It’s busy inside, as expected. A bustling atmosphere that reeks of blood, sweat, and tears, literally. There are some people seated, likely waiting to be processed, they’re handcuffed and Bakugou is fairly sure he recognizes one of them. Not that he has the time to dwell on it as they move through the police station.
One of the officers makes their way towards them, “you’re the heroes Endeavor’s agency sent?” He asks, looking to Deku, brow raised. “Welcome back.”
Bakugou looks at Izuku incredulously as they begin to follow the man through the mess of a building, “the hell is that supposed to mean?” He hisses, but Izuku’s face has already flushed as he covers it with his hands, shaking his head.
“It was one time, how do all of you know about it!” Izuku cried out, and Bakugou finds himself glaring at his partner for the day, even without context.
The officer simply laughs, waving him off as they make their way into a room. There stands the police chief, Kenji Tsuragamae, and a few others seated at some of the many seats in the room, in front of white board that seems to be more of a mess than those around them. They look tired, exhausted even.
Tsuragamae seems to notice their presence, clapping to garner the attention of the few inside the room, “everyone, please welcome the Pro Heroes from Endeavor’s agency. They’ll be assisting us with this case moving forwards.”
The officers seem rather unimpressed, and since Izuku still seems rather embarrassed for some reason, Bakugou finds himself stepping forwards, “what’s going on?”
With a sigh, he goes to answer. But he doesn’t get the chance as an explosion sounds and the building shakes. A siren goes off above them and suddenly the sprinklers began shooting out water as a woman entered, “sir! There’s been an explosion.”
Bakugou fights the urge to say, no shit, as he and Izuku exchange looks, “is it an attack?”
“On the police? That’s bold.” The officer from earlier comments as they all rise from their seats. But the fear in the room is abundantly evident as they all await her response, anticipation amongst them all. Because who would do such a thing, and so strategically placed on the day
The woman only shakes her head, and this time a man appears beside her, based on the way he’s dressed— Bakugou would have to guess he’s a plumber of some sort, but the man simply explains, “we think it’s an issue with the boiler room.”
Bakugou finds himself rolling his eyes, “then why are you still here?” He turns to the rest of the room, “get on with the briefing and get the damn plumber down there.” He grumbles out, before taking a seat once more and redirecting his attention back to the chief, gesturing for him to carry on with his presentation. All the while Izuku is apologizing rather profusely for his attitude.
Now, crime had worsened exponentially after All Might’s downfall. It’s not that other heroes were suddenly less capable, although some were discouraged by the fall of the greatest hero. It’s just that All Might was a symbol. Even years after the fact, Bakugou could still see it. Things had changed. Although in recent times, crime had lessened thanks to the work of today’s Pro Heroes, there were still… issues.
Many had gone the vigilante route as a result of the League of Villains and Stain— and speaking of Stain, there had been several copycats over the years, people who agreed with his ideals and his actions. Which is what brought them here. The issue at hand was this most recent copycat was… decent. Most of the time it was amateurs who didn’t plan that far ahead, quick and easy to catch with minimal casualties, if any.
Essentially, the police had nothing on him. Just a list of his victims and what they had in common. They were underground heroes, like that of his own teacher from UA, but something about them seemed off, different from what they’d seen in other copycats in the past. They weren’t like the flashy heroes you would find, the ones who seemed… fake. The ones most targeted because they fit Stain’s idea of a false hero.
And even then, there was no being sure which were the victims of this copycat and which were that of others. As the anniversary of Stain’s capture grew closer, more attacks were popping up.
Shaking away these thoughts, Bakugou grimaces. All he had gotten from that briefing was that they knew nothing, had done nothing, and were going nowhere. Which wasn’t necessarily encouraging. So far, there were four confirmed victims of the copycat, and three additional deaths that were viewed as possible victims of the copycat. Technically, one of the copycats, but that wasn’t something he necessarily wanted to think about.
Yeah, he would definitely be taking those vacation days.
HAIKYUU THIRD YEARS + SAYING I LOVE YOU FOR THE FIRST TIME (PT. 2) ( ft. nekoma + shiratorizawa )
plot: how the third years say i love you for the first time.
pairing: nekoma / shiratorizawa third years + gn!reader (some are more fem!reader)
warning: some foul language in yaku’s part. otherwise it’s pure fluff.
a/n: part two! i also added kiyoko in at the end because i forgot when i did karasuno last time. likes / reblogs welcome, no reposting. taglists and requests are open !! love, volley.
PART ONE | PART TWO | (like for) PART THREE?
He’s said I love you from day one, but you’ve never returned the sentiment in its entirety, only smiling and squeezing his hand. How could he love you, you’d only been dating for two weeks! But Kuroo was consistent, almost to the point of annoyance. Each hello and goodbye consisted of him confessing his love. It’s one night, only two months after the first date, when Kuroo drops you off at your apartment. He says it again, making a point to kiss your cheek. He doesn’t expect a reply at this point, and turns to head back to his car, surprised when he hears you call out for him. “No, you don’t. It’s only been eight weeks.” It isn’t meant to be a mean statement-- you were only telling the truth, but the look you see on Kuroo’s face when he turns to face you nearly causes your heart to shatter.
“How could you say that?” He huffs, hands stuffed into his jacket before approaching you slowly. “All those other times I’ve said it? Everytime I see you or leave you someplace?” He gets dangerously close now, head dipped and lips so close all you had to do was lean forward a few inches to kiss. You’ve never kissed him, not yet. Each time he tried to, you moved so it was your cheek instead. He’s accepted that, never pushed you to do anything you didn’t want to, but now… Now, Kuroo seemed to want something more. When his eyes find your own, you feel like you’re melting under the heat of his gaze. He’s so serious as a hand brushes against your cheek, followed by his lips. He doesn’t kiss you, not without you taking the initiative. Kuroo’s lips land so close to your ear, you feel his hot breath as he says: “You’re wrong, kitten. I love you more than you could ever know.” When he turns away, you’re left in a state of shock for a moment, dumbfounded as he makes more tracks in the light dusting of snow on his way out. Before you can think better of it, you’re chasing him down the sidewalk, yelling his name. As Kuroo turns, his expression goes from amusement to shock as you go careening into his arms. He tumbles backwards with you in his arms, but he could care less as your lips collide. Even though he’s steady on the ground, Kuroo gets the distinct feeling of falling.
You knew Kai wasn’t much of a talker even before you started dating. He was always silent, laughing occasionally, keeping the first years in line. He escapes your eye as the manager for the longest time, simply on the sidelines. So when he asked you out on a date (mostly because of the pushing by Yaku and Kuroo to do so), you had even surprised yourself when saying yes. Now, a few months later, you can’t imagine your life without him. You lounge next to him on the bed, lazily flipping through TV channels. You notice Kai continually looking out the window, as if searching for something. “Something wrong?” You ask, and the Nekoma’s vice captain only shakes his head, a bit of an embarrassed smile playing at the corner of his lips. “Uh, no. Sorry.” You sit up a bit straighter, look at him better. “Kai, what is it? You’ve been acting strange all week. If you want to talk, we can talk.”
You watch your boyfriend as he seems to debate something, before he stands and a mischievous look takes over his features. Your eyebrows raise curiously, and before you can protest, Kai tugs you up and towards the balcony. “Kai, what--?” “Just come!” He insists, and when you’re finally outside in the night air, you can see it. You knew Kai was out in the countryside a bit, but far enough to see the stars in detail? You pause, looking upwards at the different constellations and wishing you could remember at least one to search for. “Do you like it?” He asks, quieter now that he’s brought you outside. He wraps his arms around your middle, head resting on your shoulder. “Yes, it’s great, but… Why’d you do this?” He pauses, breathes out. You see his breath dissipate into fog. “I want to share the place I love with who I love.” he mumbles, pressing a kiss to your collarbone. You laugh, before recognition sets in. “... Love?” “Is that alright?” Kai pulls away a bit, looks at your face for any sign of discomfort. Instead, your cheeks are flushed. Maybe it’s from the winter air, maybe it’s from a growing feeling in your chest. “I love you, too.”
Yaku is so good to you that it almost physically hurt. He had always been a bit of a wildcard-- sweet one moment, yelling the next (never to you, but still). As you step out of the shower, hair dripping and skin damp, you wrap yourself in a towel before heading out to grab your extra clothes. You hadn’t meant to spend the night, but Yaku never seems to mind either way. When you finally make your grand appearance into the kitchen, you spy Yaku there, humming mindlessly as he pours some more pancake batter into the pan. You pause there for a moment, watching as he adjusts and flips it over once it’s brown on one side. The last thing you want to do is scare him, or worse, stop him from humming. You see a cup of hot tea just waiting for you on the kitchen table, so in bare feet, you sneak over. He still doesn’t seem to notice you, and when you look closer, you realize he has earbuds in. Slipping into the chair, you watch him for a few more moments, more curious of his fluid movements than anything. He’s never told his team that he’s a good cook-- in fact, he’s begged you on more than one occasion not to say anything to them. It’s not like they’d make fun of him-- well, maybe they would. Either way, you snap a quick picture. Unfortunately, the flash was on.
Sensing movement behind him, Yaku turns, mouth half open in the middle of his tune. He nearly drops the pan and burns his hand, yelping. “Ow! God… Y/N, warn me next time!” You laugh, much to Yaku’s displeasure. He sighs, but you know he’s not frustrated with you. As you go back to adding honey into your tea, you feel his eyes on you. You wait for the feeling to go away, but it doesn’t. When you finally look up again, Yaku seems to snap out of it and turn back to the pancake, which was clearly burning. “Oh, fuck…” He whines. “I was going to surprise you with breakfast in bed!” “Were you?” You ask, sliding out of your chair to join him at the stove. “Here, let me help.” As you take over for your boyfriend, you feel it again. The constant staring. “Can I help you?” There’s a small smirk on your face, but instead of attacking your neck and collarbone with kisses like he normally would, Yaku only whispers. It’s soft, maybe in the end you aren’t supposed to hear it, but of course you do. “... You love me?” Queue Yaku’s face turning bright red. “I never--!... Yes.” You laugh, turning to kiss him gently. He returns it in earnest, if a bit confused. “Good.” you state, flipping the pancake out with the rest of them. “I love you, too.”
“Tendou keeps telling me that I should be more romantic.” That’s how he greets you as Ushijima walks through the door, carrying a few bags from the convenience store. “What?” You ask, sitting up slightly as your boyfriend drops all the snacks by you. He looks at you blankly for a few moments, as if concerned you hadn’t heard him. “I said that Tendou--,” “Yes, Toshi, I heard you. Why, though? You’re plenty romantic.” You smile, holding up a few of the snacks he’d gotten you. “See? You even got me my favorites.” He shrugs, and you watch as he sits next to you. “Do you want me to be more romantic?” Ushijima looks at you closely then, as if trying to discern something. “I…” You say, cut off by his eyes searching your own. “What’s gotten into you?” You ask, but it’s quiet, unsure. “I want to tell you that I love you.”
You sit up then, clearly shocked. He does as well, nervous he might have insulted you. “Is there something wrong?” You pause, glancing back at him and away. “You love me?” “Yes.” He nods, reaching out to envelope your hand in his own. “Is that bad? Tendou says I should--,” Before he can finish, you’re already kissing him. He kisses you back greedily; he would never admit it to himself, but he loves the taste of your lips. It’s his favorite thing in the world. When you separate, you’re smiling, laughing. “Remind me to pick up some chocolate later.” you say, leaning back against his chest. “What? Why?” He hums. His low tone causes shivers to travel up your spine. “I have to thank Tendou tomorrow.”
You watch over and over again as the other team’s opposite hitter gets shut down. Once, twice, three times, and the game ends, just as fast as it had begun. As Tendou walks off the court, in high spirits as always, he finds you in the stands, surrounded by fans screaming and the drumline. He waves up to you, a smile brighter than anything you’ve ever seen coming across his features. He loves it when he can see you in the crowd, even more so when his jacket can be seen around your shoulders. When you meet him at the gym exit, he’s all smiles for you, picking you up and spinning you around. “Tendou!” You laugh, hands gripping to his shoulders for balance. “Just because you’re taller than me doesn’t mean you have to do that every time.”
“Doesn’t it?” He kisses your lips, hums in approval. “But you always look so good like this.” He sets you down gently, but doesn’t quite let go of you yet, tucking a strand of hair behind your ear, holding your lower back. “Like this?” You ask, glancing down at what you’re wearing. It’s not anything special, but whatever it is about your outfit, it’s making Tendou a bit more affectionate than usual. He kisses your jaw, leading up to your lips before you pull away, a blush covering your features. “Tendou, not here. Later.” You mumble, feeling, for the first time, his teammates’ eyes on you. He searches your eyes, wondering if he’s made a wrong move, but when he sees that you’re simply embarrassed, he laughs, turning to the others before loudly proclaiming: “Hey, guys! This is my girlfriend and I love her!” You pull away by the end, half in shock, half happier than you could ever be. “You love me?” “Of course! Wasn’t that obvious?” He pulls you in for another kiss, and you let him, before being interrupted by a deep voice. “Tendou. Coach has said that we have to leave.” Ushijima nods to you before turning to leave with the rest of the team. You watch your boyfriend’s eyebrows raise in slight annoyance, before turning back to you, all smiles. “Shall we?” and then, quietly under his breath, “That man cannot take a hint.”
When the idea of home comes to mind, Kiyoko’s the first person you think of. She places your bento on the counter, and you grab it without looking. You don’t leave without giving her a quick kiss, but she’s already kicking you out the door, insisting that both of you will be late at this point. As she walks beside you, you two don’t talk about anything in particular, but she does tuck herself underneath your arm, humming a tiny song to herself as she goes through a few new papers for the volleyball team. You drop her off at the gym like always, but before you could leave, she calls you back. “Y/N, don’t worry about waiting for me at lunch. I have to do some things for the spring pamphlet, okay? I’ll see you at my house after class.” You nod, not thinking anything of it.
Lunch finally comes around, and while Kiyoko was busy as she promised she would be, you find some old friends to sit with. You carefully unwrap the bento, eyeing the homemade meal inside, but before you could actually eat, a small paper slips onto the floor. You grab it before anyone else could, but what you see makes your face run hot. The girls laugh at you playfully, attempting to grab the paper out of your hand. “Kiyoko leave you something special?” “Can I see?” “Come on, just one look!” They all shout in unison. You know they mean well, and you wave them off easily enough, but you can’t get the dumb grin off your face if you tried. When you meet Kiyoko outside the gym later on, you immediately pull her to you. She’s not as shocked as she should be, but smiles nonetheless. “What?” she asks innocently, but you’re not having any of that. You hold up the sticky note, and Kiyoko’s handwriting, neat and orderly, easily spells out “I love you” with a heart. “This?” You hum, and she laughs, looking up at you before quickly kissing your lips. Public affection is never on Kiyoko’s to-do list. Moments like this are rare, and you savor it for all its worth, kissing her back eagerly. She pulls away, a small smile on her face, pink on her cheeks. “I do love you, you know.” Before you could respond, she’s already taking your hand and leading you away.
~10/24/2020~
walking home from work at eleven o’clock at night was probably the worst mistake you could have made. even worse, you thought it would just be such a great idea to take the back alleys, since it was faster and all you wanted to do was lay down on your bed and go to sleep.
you were an idiot, straight up.
you were walking with your head down, too preoccupied reading something on your phone to notice and be alert of your surroundings. you didn’t notice the creeping shadow coming up on you from behind.
when it grabbed you, you weren’t even able to scream; it covered your mouth immediately and shoved you against the brick of the building next to you. when you looked to see what it was, your body froze in horror.
this man–thing...no, creature, was standing before you grinning sinisterly, his sharp canines bared to you as he drank up your figure with his glowing, blood red eyes.
well, this was it. you were going to die in the hands of something you were pretty sure classified as a vampire. you didn’t stand a chance, not with the amount of strength, speed and stealth this man had already showcased to you.
you couldn’t make a sound, the fear inside you suffocating your lungs and making it hard to breathe. the man didn’t utter a word to you, and as he inched his fangs closer and closer to the vein pulsating in your throat, you squeezed your eyes shut and awaited to feel your death.
but it never came.
the weight of the man-creature-vampire thing was lifted off of you, his cold presence gone in an instant. you heard blood curdling snarls ringing out in the darkness of the alley, and you were too afraid to open your eyes to see what was happening.
you imagined that it was basically a fight between two vampires, and the victor would claim you as the meal. you should have run, but your legs were weak as the fear still consumed every cell in your body.
you were basically dooming yourself.
the wild growls finally ceased when you heard a loud crack of bones snapping, followed by a cut off yelp.
you assumed one of them was now dead, and finally you opened your eyes to take in the sight before you.
there stood another creature; much younger than the previous one by the looks of him, standing over the body of the now dead vampire. it’s head was severed from its body messily, the neck snapped clean off to where you could see the spine poking out in its place.
you wanted to throw up.
when the younger vampire looked at you, his blood red eyes squinted, and he moved closer to you in seconds, using his super speed to crowd you back against the brick wall. you whimpered, but didn’t feel as much fear as you did before, and you managed to keep your eyes open as you stood before him.
his nostrils flared as he sniffed around you, and it surprisingly didn’t weird you out as much as it should have. truth be told, even in the dim light of the moon, you could tell that this man was highly attractive. you cursed yourself for thinking this way about a creature that could easily tear you in two.
you were torn from your thoughts when you saw two fingers snap in front of your face, making your body jolt in return.
“the fuck are you doing out this late?” he suddenly questioned, his voice not at all like how you were imagining it to sound. it was soft…it wasn’t a voice you would have paired to be with a vampire. “it’s dangerous as fuck out here, you know.”
he was speaking so casually, like he didn’t just rip the head off of one of his kind. you sputtered out of cheer nervousness (and a little bit because he was so dazzlingly attractive), not knowing how to respond. his blood red eyes practically rolled out of his head at your pathetic attempts to speak.
“humans are so pathetic, seriously.” he spat, looking you up and down. “I don’t even know why I saved you. you smell good enough to devour.” his smirk, paired with the last part made your spine straighten, your hair prickling at the sense of possible danger.
“n-no!” you finally managed to blurt out, your hands coming up to instinctively cover your vulnerable throat. you wracked your brain to try to figure out how to negotiate with him; to get him to leave here without draining your body of life and blood.
unfortunately, only one thing came to mind, and you hated yourself for thinking it in the first place.
...you couldn't deny that you kinda had a thing for the whole undead, blood sucking, super strong creature shit he had going on. a million and one flashes raced through your mind, showing you different scenes of this stranger taking you up against the brick wall right here, and even biting you just to have a little taste.
it was fucked up, but you could stop your thighs from clenching at the possibilities.
he quirked an eyebrow at you, his smirk never leaving as he leaned into your space even further, flattening your body to the wall with his own.
“no what?” he practically purred, his cold breath fanning against your skin, causing goosebumps to form instantaneously.
“I’ll…” you started, weakly meeting his strong gaze. “I’ll d-do anything...j-just don’t kill me.” you tried to sound strong but there was a shiver in your voice, your chest trembling as you tried to speak. you saw his eyes flash with mischief before he pulled away entirely, giving you your space back.
“okay.” he nodded, his lips still presented in a smirk. “I’ll come find you whenever I need a favor.”
you couldn’t even ask him to elaborate or question him on exactly how he would find you, because in an instant he was gone from your sight, vanishing away and leaving you in the darkness with the still laying dead body of your first attacker.
with a quick shake of your whole body, you practically ran home, slamming the door shut and locking everything, including the windows.
~~
you weren’t sure when to expect to see the vampire who saved you again, but you didn’t think it would take him two weeks to show his face.
you were minding your own business in the safety of your home, throwing your dirty clothes into your bedroom hamper when you heard a soft thud come from your window.
turning around, your eyes met the same red ones from that night two weeks ago, and you had to fight yourself not to shriek. his face was stoic as he stared at you, decked out in all black from his hoodie to his jeans, lowkey making your mouth water.
“hey there,” he said, slithering closer to your form. once again, he cornered you against a wall, not caring to give you any personal space. he inhaled softly, his nose living closer to your neck. “you smell absolutely delicious, darling.” his sharp canines were on display as he smiled mischievously at you, your heart racing in your chest at not only the fear, but the proximity of this attractive man as well.
“um, h-hello.” you muttered out stupidly, wringing your hands together in front of you.
“let’s cut to the chase, shall we?” he stood up at little straighter as he spoke, his eyes glinting as he looked at you. “you owe me a favor, and I’m being generous enough to let you choose what you want to give me.” he looked down at his nails, feigning disinterest as you were practically hyperventilating before him.
you nodded your head to acknowledge that you were hearing him, and he took that as a sign to continue.
“so, what will it be?”
you thought back to the thoughts you were plagued with that first night, and you almost immediately clenched your thighs. you really wanted this vampire to have you, all of you, even your blood for fucks sake. it’s like the sight of him cast a spell on you, and all you wanted to do was have his cock shoved down your throat as he did his best to ruin you completely.
you knew he was capable too; there was an aura around him that screamed dominance, and having the extra factor of being a vampire did nothing to extinguish your lewd sexual fantasies.
it was really fucked up, but you made your mind up in less than a minute.
“you can bite m-me.” you squeaked, looking anywhere but him. you swore you heard his breath hitch, but he nonetheless crowded you once again as he nosed into the juncture of your neck and shoulder.
“hmm, tempting.” he allowed the tip of his nose to graze softly against your sensitive skin, causing you to shiver as it tickled you. his sinister eyes flicked up to meet yours. “are you sure?”
with a small nod you agreed, your brain screaming at you to run and never look back, but your core telling you the very opposite.
his hands found your waist as he grounded you, holding you steady as he finally began to scrape his teeth along your flesh.
“I won’t take too much,” he muttered, almost like a reassurance to you. before you could even nod, he quickly plunged his fangs into your skin, and the pleasurably painful sensation immediately had you moaning out loudly.
you gripped his shoulders tightly, your eyes glazing over as your whole body pulsated with a sudden need, the burning hot pleasure running down from where he was currently biting you to your core, instantly causing your panties to flood with your desire.
he took a few large gulps, and once you began to feel lightheaded, he pulled his fangs from you, moaning at the taste of your blood.
not being able to hold yourself back, you spoke very through that came into your head.
“I w-want your cock,” you breathed out desperately, not sure exactly where the statement came from. it was so sudden and out of the blue, but he didn’t seem fazed for one second.
“oh really?” he questioned playfully, his blood stained lips quirking up in amusement.
“”yes, please,” you begged in response, gripped at the fabric of his hoodie tightly.
he hummed, his throat vibrating with the sound.
“get on your knees.” he demanded, his demeanor changing as he wiped his mouth on his sleeve. he pointed to the ground in between the both of you and at first you were shocked at his words, even though you were the one who admitted you wanted him in the first place. you pressed your back against the wall even tighter as he gazed upon you with his blood-red eyes, your woozy head spinning.
“h-huh?” you managed to sputter out stupidly, causing him to sigh in annoyance. he shot his cold hand up to grip your throat, his nails squeezing into your skin slightly as you squeaked in surprise.
“you said you wanted my cock, right?” renjun growled, getting closer to your face with each word. you managed to nod shyly in his hold, your eyes wide and glassy as you stared back at him. he smirked, “then get on your fucking knees. don’t make me tell you again.”
he let go of you neck and returned his hand to his side, your eyes watching his every move before you finally shook yourself out of your stupor and lowered yourself to your knees in front of him. you didn’t really know what to do with yourself at that point, so you looked up at him with wide eyes, waiting to see if he would say anything else.
he rolled his eyes, scoffing as he reached for the button and zipper of his black jeans.
“dear fuck, do I have to fucking hold your hand through all of this?” his voice was icy and biting, but you still felt a warm shiver crawl up your spine as your core clenched at his words. he finally was able to undo the button and zipper and he then pulled down both his pants and underwear, leaving his almost fully hard cock out in the open on display for you.
he gripped your hair suddenly, forcing your face toward his crotch roughly. “put it in your fucking mouth, slut.”
you didn’t hesitate then, opening your mouth while using a hand to guide him past your lips, immediately swirling your tongue around the sensitive head. he groaned out above you and reached a hand to rest behind your head, not pushing on you just yet.
this wasn’t your first rodeo, so you were able to almost instantly take him all the way down your throat, only having to work up to it about three times. when his cockhead hit the back of your throat, you gagged a bit but it paid off to hear his moan cry out above you. you looked up innocently at him, bobbing your head up and down with your cheeks hollowed, drool dribbling out of the sides of your lips, adding to the messy look.
“that’s a good girl,” he breathed, his hand rubbing the back of your head almost tenderly before he shoved you completely down on him, your nose pressed against the skin of his pelvis.
your eyes blew wide and tears were prickling, but you willed yourself to relax, your throat slightly constructing instinctively around the intrusion in it.
“can I fuck your pretty face?” he growled out, finally letting you up for air. you pulled off to breathe, spit connecting your lips and the head of his angry red cock.
you managed to croak out a rough “yes”, your voice already hoarse from the few minutes of action it had been through. he gave you no time to prepare before he reached down to cup your chin and jaw in one hand, opening up your mouth before he roughly thrusted inside.
it sounded so filthy; the sounds escaping you were not cute and you were a bit embarrassed, but you were enjoying every second of the abuse to your mouth and throat. your panties were most definitely ruined at this point, and you could feel your pussy pulsating with every rough thrust of his cock down your throat.
“fucking take it, slut,” he grunted, his hips never ceasing their movements. you tried to breath through your nose as best you could, and were grateful for the small breaks he would allow you before going to town once again.
you braced your hands on his thighs as his pace quickened, his hips sloppy as he chased his high. there were no words shared and no derogatory comments spit at you as he grew closer and closer, his growls and snarls only growing louder with each passing thrust.
the sounds he was making were almost enough to get you to cum untouched, the mental stimulation almost overbearing as you felt your core tingle in need for him.
there was a nagging precense in the back of your mind that told you he wasn’t going to fuck you like you so desperately wanted him to, and there was a part of you that was perfectly okay with that.
the vampire let out a loud growl before he coneoktelt buried himself to the hilt down your flexing throat, your head knocking into the wall behind you as his cum shot directly down your esophagus.
it was uncomfortable, but you managed to swallow what you could before he pulled out and shot the rest of his hot cum all over your awaiting face.
you basked in the feeling of each shot landing on your skin, and you closed your eyes. your body felt as if it had no energy left, and you barely noticed him pulling his pants back up and fastening them closed in one swift movement.
you were right about him not fucking you or returning the favor, which was fine considering the lack of strength you currently had. the burn in your core was slowly fading along with your physical and mental strength.
as you lay slumped against the wall, his cum painted on your face and mouth, you mustered up the strength to look at and found him perched on your windowsill, ready to leave.
“what’s your n-name?” you croaked, your eyes barely open.
you could make out a smile forming on his lips.
“renjun,” he quickly responded, a lightness in his voice that you hadn’t heard before and that was a complete contrast to his earlier tone.
“and don’t worry, darling. I’ll be back for you.”
and in a quick flash, he was gone, and it was like he wasn’t ever there in the first place.
all i want for christmas - isaac lahey
Hey crew! Happy holidays my loves 💓 whether you celebrate or not i hope you’re having a wonderful week! Here’s something a lil festive ;)
Enjoy + let me know what you think💓
Word count: 2.3k
Warnings: none :) just fluff
Master list
It was that time of year again. The most stressful, crazed, chaotically wonderful time of the year. Of course, it was the annual McCall pack Christmas party.
The one occasion in which there was absolutely no getting out of, whether you were in Beacon Hills or not. The only day of the year where every single member of the pack would get to see each other all at the same time.
Since graduating from High School you’d all gone your separate ways, living your own lives and fulfilling your respective destinies.
Since you’d seen your beloved pack last, you’d been contently living a quiet life in a small town in England. It was pretty sweet, you lived in a spacey cottage and worked in a very quaint bakery. It was safe to say that being a werewolf in a tiny cottagecore village was a lot easier, and entirely less stressful, than being a werewolf in Beacon Hills.
But, as they all say; home is where the heart is.
Because you lived across the world, the Christmas party was the only chance you got to see the majority of your dearest friends, so you always kept the date.
Every year without fail since the pack had formed, December 23rd, Christmas eve eve, was strictly reserved for festive supernatural celebrations.
It had been a long day of airport lines, connecting flights and luggage collections but you were finally sitting in a cab on your way to Derek Hale’s loft.
There was always the unspoken dress code of “way fancier than you need to be” at these parties, it was a code that yourself and Lydia in particular took very seriously. Even if that meant slipping into a little black dress, your favourite pair of heels, applying a full face of makeup and doing your hair in an airport bathroom.
Which for you, was the reality. But regardless, you looked hot as hell.
The cab driver’s sleavy glances at you through the rear view mirror only confirmed the fact.
“Christmas party?” The middle aged man asked, looking at you more intently than the road.
“Mhm.” You replied, faking a sincere smile.
He let out a low whistle from between his thin chapped lips and rose an ungroomed eyebrow, “Someone there you’re trying to impress?”
Now that was the golden question. With a forced chuckle you brought your gaze to rest on the crescent moon glowly in the black sky.
There was someone there that you wanted to impress, as a matter of fact.
It was one of those fickle things. A will-they-won’t-they of epic proportions and it had been going on since junior year of high school. Sure, everyone loves a slow burn, Stiles and Lydia are a perfect example of this.
However, your fire seemed to be taking its sweet time catching alight.
Shaking the thoughts away you let out an exhausted sigh, “Unfortunately, yeah. There is someone I’m trying to impress.”
The cab driver let out a chuckle, “If ya ask me, if however it is doesn’t have to pick their jaw up off of the floor after seeing you they are a fool.” He told you, not trying to hide the looks of approval he was giving the neckline of your dress very obviously.
You couldn’t stop the booming laugh that left your painted lips at his statement, he was such a creep but he was definitely onto something.
“Who knows maybe this will be the year.” You said through a laugh. The driver nodded his head and then exclaimed cockily as he, thankfully, pulled up to Derek’s complex, “Yeah, and if not, you know where to find me.”
Trying your very best to contain your laughter at the man before you, you wordlessly got out of the car, grabbing your suitcase, which was full of presents, from the trunk.
“Merry Christmas, beautiful!” He called jovially through the passenger side window, you looked over your shoulder and gave him your best fake smile, “You too.”
As you began towards the building's entrance you lowered your tone, muttering a quiet, “Creep.” Under your breath.
The sound of suitcase wheels dragging against the concrete pavement echoed through an empty lobby area as you made your way to the rickety old elevator, trust Derek to buy the entire building but choose the loft on the top floor.
A bell sounded when the elevator finally arrived, you stepped inside and waited patiently for the contraption to carry you to the top floor.
When it arrived you could hear Christmas music booming from behind the huge sliding metal door that separated the loft from the hallway, there was a lot of excited chatter inside the loft so you assumed you were the last to arrive. Fashionably late.
Just as you were about to pull the door open, you paused and pulled out your phone, opening the camera and giving yourself one last look over. The status hadn’t changed since the airport, you still looked hot as hell.
Disregarding the anxious butterflies fluttering around your stomach, you took a deep intake of breath and plastered a genuine smile on your red lips and opened the door.
“Hello my darlings!” You made your presence known with an over the top false British accent as the pack turned to see who had just arrived. The second their eyes landed on you the whole room exploded with excitement.
Lydia squealed in delight, rushing up to you and pulling you into a tight hug. Your arms wrapped around her tightly and your smile widened when she began swaying you excitedly in her arms before pulling away. The strawberry blonde held you at arm's length, her eyes scanning you from head to toe then fixing you with a knowing smirk.
“Cute dress. Who is that little number for?” She teased menacingly, raising an eyebrow as if she didn’t already know the answer.
You’d missed her little games, but that didn’t mean you’d forgotten how to play along since you’d seen her last. You put your hand over your heart and looked at her dreamily, your horrible imitation of a British accent returning, “Why it’s all for you my love.”
It was then that Stiles broke the two of you apart saying, “Y/n, you’re my best friend and we share a lot of things but I’m afraid my girlfriend is not one of them.”
With a disappointed sigh, you shot your best girl friend a wink, “Forbidden love.”
“Shut up and gimme a hug already, God.” Stiles said in an exasperated tone, but the huge grin on his face betrayed his voice as he wrapped his lanky arms around you.
“Hey Sty.” You giggled, reciprocating his hug. When he pulled away you noticed the rest of the pack were now crowding around you at the door.
Scott stood like an excited puppy waiting to get to you and the second you laid eyes on him you felt excitement burst within you.
With a huge smile on your face you threw your arms around his shoulders, squealing happily as the alpha lifted and spun you around in his hold. It felt so good to be with wolves again, you already felt stronger.
“I’ve missed you!” You told him, your feet pressed back on the ground. Scott’s smile was so bright as he exclaimed, “You too! You’re the only one I haven’t seen since last year! How are you? Are you doing okay on your own? How’s England?” He fired out in the brotherly way he usually did, you couldn’t help the fond smile on your face as you patted his cheek reassuringly, “Don’t worry, Scotty. I’m all good.”
The next few minutes were spent hugging and catching up with the others, Malia, Derek and Peter had welcomed you home in the doorway with hugs.
“Where are the puppies?” You asked, referring to Liam and Mason.
“Kitchen. Liam is trying to find something that’ll make us all drunk.” Malia told you, looking at your suitcase with expectancy.
You motioned towards the case by your side with a knowing grin, “Ok, I’ll go get those two. Your names are on the presents that are for you.”
“Yes!” Malia cheered, pecking your cheek quickly then almost sprinting to the case.
When you got to the doorway of the kitchen you leaned against the frame, watching as Liam chugged a bottle of vodka, trying to get some kind of buzz from the liquid while Mason watched in awe, “I don’t see you for a year and suddenly you’re a frat boy.” You sighed out.
Liam stopped in his tracks and looked towards you, “Oh hey, Y/n” He greeted you with an adorable smile and Mason gave you a small nod of greeting and you nodded your head towards the living area where the others were exchanging gifts.
“There’s presents for you guys if you wanna go get them.” You informed them, smiling as they all but ran past you towards the gifts.
The kitchen was empty now, save for you and a half full bottle of smirnoff. Tiredly you made your way to the wooden counter opposite the door and sat yourself up on it.
As you swung your legs gently in the air, you took a moment to close your eyes and enjoy the moment to yourself.
The moment ended with a gentle knock on the doorframe, and when you opened your eyes, there he was.
Standing in front of you, in the flesh and all of his glory was Isaac Lahey. “You mind if I join you?” He asked softly, you gave him a smile and beckoned him over.
“‘Course not. Come in.” He smiled in return and casually made his way over to you, he hoisted himself up beside you on the countertop.
“I didn’t realise you were here yet.” You told him, eyes studying his face, he hadn’t aged a day since the first day you met him.
Even now, years later, he still maintained that youthful lost boy aura. The sparkle in his eyes never dimmed either.
Isaac turned his head to face you, a warm smile decorating his lips as he did so, “Sorry I missed your entrance, I had to change. I came straight from the airport.”
You nodded in understanding, “Me too. Changed in the airport bathroom though.”
He chuckled at that, you didn’t miss the way his eyes traveled across your body or how they lingered on the hem of your dress that had ridden up ever so slightly when you’d hopped on the counter.
When he caught himself staring he cleared his throat and looked away, when he was met with the look of knowing on your face his own erupted in a blush.
“You look…” He started but trailed off.
“Incredible? Amazing? Stunningly gorgeous? Come on, Isaac. Help me out here.” You teased, bumping your shoulder against his.
“All of the above.” He answered, equally as cheekily, he knee pressing against yours as he pulled something out of his back pocket.
It was a narrow rectangular envelope, he fiddled with it nervously before holding it in your direction, “I got you a present.”
You took it from him gently, “You didn’t have to-”
“I wanted to. Open it.” He urged, blue eyes glued to you as your fingers pried the envelope seal open.
As you pulled the contents of the envelope you looked to Isaac in confusion. It was a flight ticket to Paris for New Years eve.
“A plane ticket?”
Isaac nodded, blush returning to his face, “Yeah, I know you’ve always wanted to go and there’s the completely unrelated reason that I have an apartment in the city and would really love to spend new year’s with you.” He rambled on nervously and you smiled up at him.
“So you’re essentially asking me to come for a slumber party?” You grinned, giggling when he rolled his gleaming eyes at you. “I’m kidding. I’d love to come to Paris with you.” You told him, taking his hand in yours to stop it from fidgeting.
Isaac squeezed your hand in response, a happy smile on his face, “It’d also be a really great opportunity for me to finally admit that I’m in love with you.”
There was that fire you’d been talking about, after way too many years, it was finally lighting up.
“Good. That would give me a chance to tell you that I love you too.” You played along, biting back a shit eating grin as his face moved closer to yours.
You could hear Lydia behind the door, hushing the others as they all screamed along to “All I Want For Christmas Is You”.
“She’s been standing out there listening since I came in.” Isaac whispered and you only responded by sliding your hands up his shoulders.
Absentmindedly, Isaac’s arms wrapped around your waist as you continued to lean in closer, whispering, “Then let’s stop talking.”
Isaac’s eyes widened at that and he swooped his lips the rest of the distance to yours, murmuring, “God, I love that plan.”
His lips clung to yours while your hands moved to his hair. It had been a long time coming. After all the almosts and could haves, his lips were finally on yours.
The kiss was broken when you couldn’t hold your smile back any longer, Isaac’s lips were now tinted red from your lipstick but they were formed in a breathtaking smile.
“I think we should stop talking more. Like a lot more.”
*
“They kissed!” Lydia whisper shouted to the rest of the pack, who were pretending not to listen to the conversation happening in the kitchen.
Scott let out a celebratory “Whoop!” As did Malia and Mason.
“And! She’s going to spend New Year’s with him in Paris!” Scott clapped his hands together then, holding his hand out to Stiles, “Called it. Hand it over.”
Stiles grumbled, necking the rest of his drink before fishing a twenty out of his pocket and shoving it in Scott’s hand.
You’re a Cat, Hargreeves
Pairing: Five Hargreeves x Reader
Request 1: Hello, so Five has been through a LOT in just two weeks, so can I request something where the reader and him have a bit of intimacy but are not together yet. Then something happens that is just the last drop to him and he shows up to the reader with red and glossy eyes and collapses in her arms? She just holds him (because boy, he needs it) and after a while he manages to talk about things letting his feelings for her slip in the process. Then she can just calm him down and make him feel loved.
Request 2: Could I request a fanfic where Five has a terrible day at the Commission or in the Apocalypse and at bedtime the Reader comforts him, and he suddenly becomes the little spoon for the first time? Idk I think it would be cute to see him shy and secretly liking
!!! Note: Since these two requests have a common theme of Five being stressed as fuck and having a breakdown I’ve decided to combine them. Personally I imagine this scenario in my Commission AU, HOWEVER, I intentionally didn’t make it very specific in terms of the circumstances so you can headcanon whatever u like <3 also sorry its not the exact scenario from your requests but i hope you don’t mind me taking some creative liberty.
also both Five and Reader are in their 20s here coz otherwise i’m very uncomfortable
massive thanks to @wonders-of-the-multiverse for helping me out with wording the physicality of certain things <33333
GIF: @maxiemayfield
You’ve seen Five in many different states.
You’ve seen him anxious and spiraling, you’ve seen him furious and borderline insane; depressed and distant, lost and confused. At this point, you genuinely thought you’d seen it all but, apparently, you were wrong.
“I am just so tired.” Five whispered almost inaudibly with a sigh so desperate that it made your stomach turn.
“Hey, what’s wrong?” you asked, your voice small as you weren’t quite sure how to act yet.
He glanced at you, and you couldn’t help but notice his eyes glistening with salty wetness that was about to spill out and smear his frustration all over his cheeks.
You always loved Five’s eyes - his huge, almost puppy dog eyes that made you absolutely lose yourself in their depth. Whenever you looked into them, you saw wisdom, maturity, exhaustion and patience, dedication and passion, all at the same time. There was a whole other universe behind his blue orbs, and you admired it endlessly. Looking into his eyes right now, however, was nowhere near as exciting and pleasant. Instead, it felt like some strange and violent ache was gripping you at the very heart and squeezing it without mercy, and you winced at the sensation as worry and concern were uncontrollably blossoming inside your ribcage.
Five didn’t grant you with an answer, too busy trying to hold back his tears and clenching his teeth proudly as if there was any point at all.
You got up on your feet and approached Five slowly, careful not to freak him out as you were giving him the time to get used to your presence in his personal space. Normally, he wouldn’t mind yet you couldn’t tell if the same rules applied to scenarios like the one taking place.
“I’m here, yeah? It’s okay, you’re okay,” you kept repeating like a mantra as you pulled Five into your embrace.
He buried his face in the crook of your neck and you instantly felt your skin getting damp. In just a few seconds Five’s entire body relaxed into yours and he wrapped his arms around you tightly, finally letting go and allowing himself to have a proper cry. He hadn’t had one in years, and, by all means, he was entitled to this breakdown.
Most of the time, Five was the one protecting you - looking out for you and leading the both of you out of dangerous and potentially lethal situations. Not that it was a completely one-sided dynamic but it was true that you tended to rely on him quite a lot in times of crisis. Five was good in crisis, exceptional actually. He made decisions quickly and didn’t hesitate to do absolutely anything it took to achieve his goals, which, unfortunately, meant that he was often forced to make choices where humanity and ethics were no longer a top priority.
Despite all that, Five always seemed in control, and even when he wasn’t, you knew he’d get it back eventually. You had placed your trust in him at all times, and only now were you starting to realize that it must have felt like a huge weight of responsibility on his shoulders. Granted, he was objectively smarter and more capable due to his superpowers but he was still human.
Hearing Five’s hopeless and feverish sobbing was unnerving, and you could only imagine what was going on in his cluttered and clearly overloaded mind as he was bawling his eyes out with such raw and genuine fury. From the lack of a better idea you simply waited for Five to cry himself out, patiently holding him in your arms and whispering words of reassurance into the air, not so much out of hope he’d hear them and listen but more as a means of letting him feel you were still there.
“I’m so fucking tired,” Five finally uttered but his words rather quickly got drowned in his weeping. You still got the message, though.
“You deserve to rest, Five,” you replied, feeling your legs start to shake from the weight of Five’s entire body leaning on your form. As much as you wanted to stay like this for as long as he needed, you couldn’t exactly go against your evident physical disadvantage. Five was a heavy gentleman, after all.
“Hey, let’s move to the bed, yeah?” it was more of a statement than a question, so you stepped towards the bed suggestively, expecting him to follow you. To your relief, he didn’t resist and followed your lead right away, seemingly too exhausted to even think, let alone disobey.
Five’s body was limp from the absence of energy, all of which had presumably gone into crying, and he could barely manage to walk on his own, so you grabbed at his shoulders to steady him.
It felt like his physical self was now merely a vehicle with no pilot to steer it, and his mind was long lost someplace else.
As you sat Five down, you caressed his cheek with your thumb, wiping away the trails of his tears whilst also trying to gently break him out of the prison of his troubled and restless brain. To your disappointment, it failed to spark any sort of response.
Right in this moment, he looked almost defenseless. Sure, he wasn’t an incapable baby all of a sudden but he was relying on you, reversing your roles and putting all of his worries and pain on your shoulders, basically asking you to carry them for him because he simply couldn’t anymore.
“Fives. Fives? Look at me, please?” you called, trying to shift his attention to something on the outside because you knew it was the looking inside that pushed him to crumble.
“Focus on my voice, alright?” you tried to keep your tone as steady and stern as you possibly could because right now you were his only bridge back to reality.
You pressed your palms against Five’s shoulders and slowly climbed onto his lap, resting your weight atop of him completely and hoping the pressure of it would manage to snap him out of his almost delirious daze.
As your hand reached for Five’s, you placed it on your chest right where your heart was beating and said:
“Can you feel it? It means I’m alive, Fives. I’m a human and a consciousness just like you. And I'm never leaving your side, no matter the circumstances. You’re never going to be alone, I promise you.”
You took Five by his chin with your other hand and softly guided his gaze upwards to meet your own, noticing his red glossy eyes finally regaining some clarity. The very peak of Five’s episode had already passed, and, as he was coming down from it, he encircled your waist with his arm and let his head sink to your shoulder with his eyes closed shut.
Still sitting straddled across his lap, you brushed your fingers through his soft silky hair and began to massage his scalp in a calming manner, trying to release some of the tension and lull him further into peacefulness. As your fingers moved a little lower, you knew you’d hit the sweet spot because Five literally purred into your skin as soon as he felt your nails gently scratch at the nape of his neck.
“How many times did I say you’re a cat, Hargreeves,” you rolled your eyes at his reaction and couldn’t resist a wide smile as you buried your nose in his hair. Five hummed quietly, and it was the only response you were going to get from him, which, to be fair, was already a big improvement so you couldn't really complain.
“How about we get you into some comfier clothes, wash your face and then you can tell me all about what’s been on your mind, hm?” you proposed confidently, still holding Five close and practically enveloping him in your warmth.
Your every movement was saturated with such understanding and care that not for a split second did Five feel like his vulnerability was making him weak or unworthy. It was quite the opposite, and with each passing moment he was beginning to feel like you were only making him stronger.
He nodded at your suggestion approvingly but didn’t move an inch, and you took it as a hint that he needed a few more minutes of sitting in silence; the bridge of his nose pressed to your collarbone as he was still finding his way back into the present.
You didn’t mind at all.
heyyyy coming in a few days early with the “expression” prompt for @aspecarchivesweek! just a lil something about jon wearing a shirt he doesn’t like. enjoy!
(also on ao3)
_______________
All of Jon’s clothes are in greyscale.
Well, this isn’t entirely true—some are a very light tan, or a dingy brown. One mothbitten vest is a glaring 70’s orange that Jon deeply dislikes, so it stays at the back of his closet. These are the clothes he inherited from his parents and possibly also his grandparents, which he can’t bring himself to throw away. The rest, however, strictly range from white to black, practical to a fault.
Jon has a working theory that he may be the first person in history with an allergy to clothing stores. Entering one instantly stresses him out, and all he wants is to get what he came for and get out as quickly as possible. Figuring out how to match colors, as he eventually learns by the time he’s in uni, is a waste of time and consideration. Much easier and simpler to only buy clothes in shades that match no matter how you swap them out.
Of course, there are exceptions, and as life goes on in its chaotic and unaccountable way, he acquires items of clothing he wouldn’t otherwise have picked for himself. A colorful sweater from Georgie as a birthday gift. A free T-shirt from a uni event. He keeps these things for their sentimental value, but rarely wears them out of the house.
However, sometimes life is not only chaotic but also utterly unmanageable. And sometimes Jon finds himself with a promotion he doesn’t really know what to do with, an entire archive to organize, and less time than he’s ever had to do laundry.
And, well. One has to wear something to work, doesn’t one.
This is what Jon keeps telling himself as he miserably pulls on the last clean shirt left in his flat. He should know; he’s checked four times, and if he checks a fifth he’ll be late for work. He gives himself a glance in the small, dirty mirror stuck to the inside of his closet door, and looks away almost immediately, strangely embarrassed.
It’s just a long-sleeved, striped T-shirt, which is maybe a bit unprofessional for the workplace, but it’s not as though anybody minds how the people who work in the basement dress. The problem comes from its colors. Well, one of its colors. Three of them—black, grey, white—are perfectly suitable for Jon. But following those, at the bottom of the shirt, is a glaring, bright violet.
The shirt is a casualty of the aforementioned chaos of life. A friend of an acquaintance had given it to Jon to wear to a pride parade several years back, which he had ended up skipping out on anyway. Since then the shirt had been kept out of sight and mind, packed into the back of Jon’s closet for a rainy day that he’d never really expected to arrive.
There’s a first time for everything, Jon thinks, almost reflexively. The words don’t mean much to him, philosophically speaking, but they are a steadying mantra nonetheless. He goes to pull on his coat; by some measure of luck, it’s a cold day out. He plans not to take it off again until he’s safely back in his flat that night.
The trouble is, of course, that wearing one’s coat while making tea in the break room in an adequately-heated basement looks rather conspicuous to one’s coworkers, and leads to questions.
“You feeling alright, boss?” Tim asks, as he retrieves his bagged lunch from the fridge.
“Yes,” Jon says, stiffly. “Perfectly fine. I’m just cold.”
Sasha, who has followed Tim in, says, “Not sick, I hope.”
“I’m fine, don’t worry,” Jon says again, though he is beginning to feel a bit overheated. “It’s just cold in here. You don’t feel cold?”
Tim and Sasha shake their heads, looking concerned.
“I’m fine,” Jon says for the third time in thirty seconds, and promptly flees the break room.
By late afternoon, Jon is sweltering, and has no choice but to take off the coat. He’s careful to close his office door before he does so, resolving to put it back on if he needs to be seen by anyone for the rest of the day.
Though the garish violet stripe in his periphery is distracting at first, he loses himself in his work soon enough, spending an hour or two tearing through a stack of statements that are, by and large, utter nonsense.
He loses himself in his work so much, in fact, that when there’s a knock at his office door, he says “Come in,” without thinking.
“Hey, Jon,” says Tim as he enters, “d’you have a copy of statement zero-one-three-two . . .”
Tim’s voice drifts off, and Jon looks up, irritated. “Zero-one-three-two-what?”
Tim’s staring at him, an eager expression on his face, and Jon’s stomach goes cold. He looks down at the shirt, remembering, and stops himself from groaning. If he doesn’t react, maybe Tim will leave it alone. “What number were you looking for, Tim?” he says instead, very calmly and professionally.
But of course it doesn’t work. Tim’s face breaks into a smile, and he gives Jon a big, showy once-over. Jon rolls his eyes even before the words are out of Tim’s mouth. “Looking good, boss.”
“Tim, I have even less patience for sarcasm than usual, so if you could please—”
“Who said anything about sarcasm? You look good! Casual, ah, Tuesday suits you, Jon.”
Jon puts his elbows up on his desk and massages his temples. “I ran out of laundry.”
“Ah, been there.” Tim seems to have taken Jon’s resignation as an invitation, because he helps himself to the chair opposite Jon’s desk. “Wouldn’t have pegged you for the pride flag type, though. Don’t even think I’ve seen you with laptop stickers.”
“No,” Jon says, “I’m not. Not usually. This is just the only thing I had lying around. It’s from years ago, I never wear it.”
“Aw.” Tim genuinely looks disappointed. Jon wonders if perhaps he’s losing what remains of his tenuous ability to read people. “That’s a shame. You look good in purple.”
Jon has reached a point in his life, he’s fairly certain, where he ought to have heard such a comment before, or at least know the proper response. In actuality, he cannot recall a single instance of someone in his adult life complimenting his choice of fashion. He looks down at the shirt again. It’s the same as it was before: too-bright and obvious. He highly doubts it could look good on him in any shape or form. “Um. Thank you?” he says, sounding more bewildered than grateful.
“Really! It, like, brings out your eyes, or something. I dunno, but I think it’s nice on you. Not sure why you went through all the trouble to hide it all day.”
Jon shifts in his chair. “It’s . . . I mean, it’s very loud, isn’t it. And obvious. It’ll just attract attention.”
Tim looks at him for a moment or two. “Jon,” he says, “is this just about the shirt? Or is it also about the shirt?”
“That makes no sense, Tim.”
“You know what I mean.”
Jon, admittedly, does. One of the things he appreciates most about Tim is that they can be honest with one another, if only after some customary back-and-forth. He sighs deeply. “It’s—it’s just . . . a lot. I know it isn’t, really, in the grand scheme, it’s just you and Sasha, a-and Martin, too, I suppose. And it’s London, no one’s going to—it’s safe. I know that. B-But it’s a lot, being seen with everything—out in the open. By strangers. To know that they know. And even if they don’t know, they’ll . . . they’ll probably be able to guess.” He stares down at the scratched, cheap wood of his desk. Long ago, someone had carved a tiny pentagram on the lip of it. If Jon’s sense of humor weren’t buried under three layers of anxiety at the moment, he’d probably find it funny. “And I know it’s childish, to care what a bunch of strangers would think. But I can’t . . . I can’t stop thinking about it. I can’t just let it go.”
There’s a painfully long pause before Tim speaks up again.
“Well, I’ve got good news for you, Jon.”
Jon looks up at him warily, and finds that Tim is smiling at him. “What?”
He points at Jon’s coat where it hangs off the back of his chair. “You can put that back on.”
Jon blinks at him.
“At five,” Tim goes on, “you can put your coat back on, button it up, and walk out of here, and when you get back to your flat, Jon, you can do your bloody laundry. And you never have to wear that shirt ever again. Problem solved.”
“But . . .” Jon’s voice peters out before he can come up with a real protest.
“If wearing pride colors makes you feel like that,” Tim says, his voice gentler, “then don’t wear them. Simple as that. Not everybody’s got to carry a flag twenty-four-seven. Or ever. Doesn’t make you any less queer. Hell, even I take the pins off my bag sometimes.” Tim squints into the middle distance, muttering, “I can never seem to get the laptop stickers off, though.”
“But—what about what you said about me wearing purple?” He’s grasping at straws, he knows, but Tim’s argument is quite good. And the thought of never wearing this particular shirt again does sound rather appealing.
“So wear an aubergine button-down every once in a while!” Tim shrugs. “Or don’t! It’s none of my business.” He tilts his head to the side. “Actually, please do wear an aubergine button-down sometime. You’d turn some heads down here.” He pauses. “Figuratively, I mean. I’m sure everyone would be very respectful.”
Jon lets out a startled laugh. “Alright,” he says, feeling lighter. He runs a hand through his hair. “Maybe, sometime, I’ll . . . I’ll try it.”
“I know you like your blacks and whites, Jon,” Tim says, “and I’m not here to tell you how to dress. But if you ever need advice, or want to borrow a colorful, strictly nondenominational shirt . . .” He points both thumbs at himself. “I’m your guy.”
“Okay,” Jon says, and is surprised to find that, in this one, specific case, he is.
“And,” Tim adds, pointing a professorial finger in the air, “it’s not childish to care about what other people think of you. Pretty sure it’s the most universal thing there is. Welcome to the human race, Jon. You’re among us peons, now.”
Jon raises an eyebrow. “How unfortunate,” he says, drily, and Tim cackles.
Jon wears his coat home, keeping it carefully buttoned, and when he gets back to his flat he tosses the shirt into the back of his closet from whence it came. He’s not going to throw it away altogether, of course. It has sentimental value. Someday, maybe, he’ll dig it back up, if only just to look at.
For now, Jon does his bloody laundry.
Hi can you please make a birthday meaning of 14th July ?
Language Of Birthdays: July 14 - Cancer
[You can find the rest of the series here; or check out my masterlist]
The Day Of The Convincing Storyteller
July 14 people are convincing—and how! What confidence they don't gain by a forthright, trustworthy image they magically induce through an unassuming charm. Some born on this day boldly inspire confidence from the first meeting. Others win hearts through precisely the opposite: a low-key, even self-deprecatory approach. Those July 14 people who impress one as conservative or even colorless can nonetheless be very credible due to their objectivity and professional image.
The marvellous thing about the seductive powers of July 14 people is that they can work their magic in the unconscious. Even those who realize they are being won over may go along anyway, feeling it to be a meaningful experience. Perhaps this is because those born on this day are not playing at seduction for its own sake but seek to enlighten others in some way. Most July 14 people have a technical command of their profession, skill or business that is remarkable. Their stories are fascinating and believable. Thus, should they prove to be unscrupulous, they can get away with murder before they are discovered. If they are honest, their charming personalities are a faithful indication of the real worth of their product or service. Unfortunately, those born on this day are difficult to read and may fall under suspicion as they sometimes seem too good to be true.
Despite their charm, confidence and general good humor, those born on this day become deeply depressed periodically, seemingly for no apparent reason. For those who look closely, July 14 people carry a tinge of sadness about them which only serves to make them more human and attractive. But when July 14 people are alone they will submerge themselves in deeply plutonic areas of their personality only hinted at in their exterior. They are in touch with the dark corners of the human soul and carry these soulful qualities with them through life.
Because people tend to admire them and give great weight to what they say, July 14 people should try to be sure about the veracity of their statements and advice. Fiction should not blend too perfectly with fantasy. Because they possess the common touch, July 14 people are capable of reaching a wide audience and can easily misuse their personal magnetism to lead people astray, if they wish to do so. Their talent for creating believable illusions is highly developed, and as with all good magicians, performed effortlessly. Those July 14 people who do not understand themselves perhaps misuse their influence and manipulate others unconsciously. Thus they can be dangerous to everyone concerned.
Strengths:
Fascinating
Convincing
Seductive
Weaknesses:
Misleading
Manipulative
Unreliable
Advice
July 14 people have a strange relationship to illness and disease. On the one hand, they have marked abilities to exert healing influences on themselves and others, but on the other seem to periodically surrender themselves to sickness in a kind of ritualized exorcism of their plutonic side. Thus they may appear to be suffering, when they are actually undergoing a kind of renewal process. These are some of the few people whose depressions may be necessary for personal development. Physically, those born on this day may be vulnerable to certain chronic digestive, respiratory or skin disorders; such ailments should be dealt with promptly. Usually a July 14 person's diet is quite unusual and their desire for extra physical exercise almost nonexistent. They should be left to their own devices in both of these areas.
Recognize and own up to your seductive powers and having done so, serve higher constructive forces
Your effect on others is an indication of where you stand
Although you may grow by understanding your dark side, follow the light
