Since you just came back from a date, could you describe a date from two UJ characters who are canonically dating?

Odnduudbr okay so these are more like loose ideas strung together but!!!

Undyne and Alphys have awful ideas for dates. Alphys thinks eating ice cream and watching anime is a date which is okay once or twice but girl expand your horizons and Undyne wants to do physical activities like go fencing or watch a wrestling match or something.

If they ever go to a dinner date it would be great for only them. Alphys' order would be wrong and Undyne would be the "She asked for no pickles" but she also would absolutely go into the kitchen and "teach" the chefs how to make food if she declares the restaurant's food is not good. It would start a fire of course and they would be kicked out but hey, that's romance for ya.

Ok while I’m not necessarily disagreeing with anything you say, as an avid fanon sans hater (read as: when written horribly) there are parts I sorta wanna expand on more???

First off, with the “fanon vs opposite of fanon sans” I think it’s more of just the interpretations you come across in fanon, like how there are good and bad parts of a fandom.

I’m not hating on any way of writing sans (and tbh other than when I dip my toe beans in Underjumble to write I don’t really engage with the fandom anymore so this could not even be that big of a problem anymore) but a lot of the time people write sans to be OOC when dealing with the loss of paps in geno— almost childishly in a way? Like he’s sad than angry and just immediately wants to fight & murder us as revenge, but he doesn’t do that, be waits for practically the entire underground being dead before taking action, and not in the “crying, eyelights blazing” way but calm and collected— and if my memory serves me correct— other than the beginning and end of the fight he doesn’t really mention papyrus.

(And in my thought process, when dealing with papyrus’s death sans doesn’t really “care” about paps dying because he knows he’ll get Papyrus back, except in geno in which he realizes there won’t be any RESET, at the end everything will just be deleted, and thus he tries to stop you in boss battle)

Dirty brother killer is a cool line when used tastefully, it’s often not.

It isn’t! In fact, that’s what I love about fanon! When writing sans angst or papyrus angst it’s given that you naturally focus on the sad parts and all that jazz. It isn’t wrong. But when they overdo it on the sadness and/or adoration without giving sans any depth is when fanon sans gets bad rep.

(An example I like to use with this goes a bit into the AUs, with Underswap Sans representation. With the fanon separation of “Blue” and “Swap”. Blue lacking much depth into his character, basically being a fanon Papyrus redo, while Swap is the in-depth version, still keeping his personality, just not overdoing it, just going more into the possibilities with his character.)

Okay now i sorta have to disagree with you on this part here. Love and care can be shown in a plethora of different ways. Love sometimes can just be known, not explicitly said, as is the case with many siblings. Me and my brother aren’t really big on touchy touchy part on, but it’s understood that we’d always be there for each other, we’d support each other always. Like, yeah we fight, but we care. Same goes with my elder sister. She really doesn’t like hugs and shit, sometimes I’d have to beg her to give me a fucking high five, but she has supported me through tough times, gave me advice and all that jazz, and it’s understood we love each other and will be there for each other through thick and thin, even if it isn’t shown. Kinda rambled there, but my point is, even if you can’t see it, sans does care about papyrus. And shock factor is a major part of dealing with death, the amount of times I’ve known people who seemed uncaring over death of a loved one mainly stems from the fact it “doesn’t seem real” because they were literally just fine yesterday. I know it probably doesn’t apply to the situation you end up here, and yes, I agree, if sans literally just shrugs and says “whatever”, then yeah, obviously he doesn’t care, but I’m also saying just because sans isn’t bawling over Papyrus’s death and stuff doesn’t mean he doesn’t care, of-fucking-corse he cares it’s his brother? Hello?

Depression is shown in different ways. Sayori, DDLC, prime example. Again, just because sans is sad doesn’t mean he isn’t depressed. Sans, as we known him, literally always smiles. And seems to “not care”. Just because it isn’t mentioned in this specific situation doesn’t mean he isn’t (in some interpretations) fucking depressed. For example, just because Sans’s left-handedness isn’t being mentioned doesn’t mean he’s suddenly right handed or something, it just wasn’t specified (Note: This is is a gross generalization, and an example. I am in no way comparing what hand someone writes with to depression).

And with this, I repeat what you said earlier, is this so wrong? Especially in fics where sans’ POV isn’t written or he isn’t the MC, it usually comes across this way, it’s what makes him so infuriating, what makes him mysterious, it’s what makes him Sans. Just because sans isn’t having a bad day that day, doesn’t mean it’s a bad representation of him.

Anyhow, this is just my two cents on the matter, Sans can be a good character when written correctly, but everyone’s bound to do something someone doesn’t like, especially in writing. Either way of sans isn’t wrong, just catering to one side of the fandom more than the other. “Fanon” vs. “canon” is still here, just “fanon” is a very broad spectrum, how close it is to “canon” depends on the person!

Fanon vs canon for Sans isn't really... what it says. It's more fanon vs opposite of fanon. Fanon is usually much more like Sans, just people hate it. Hell, I've seen fanon vs canon where fanon is literally what canonically happens.

Also it usually is... almost gross? It's not being an edgelord to be distraught over your brother, who you cared for more than the world (which is canon throughout his text, Toriel even teases him for it!!!) and it's so tiring. Dirty brother killer isn't cringe fanon. It's a literal line. You guys want to be in undertale but you hate parts of it so you bully people who use canon stuff. (not referenced to the reader inherently)

Of course, fanon can just be someone writing the sad or adoring aspect only but... is that so wrong? People have talents and prefer reading things. Sometimes people see so much of his goofiness and it's fun but they create content to go deeper into the other sides. Some just can't pull it off. Many acknowledge that he has more sides to him; just like how people who make content of his goofy side only, it doesn't undermine that other aspect.

Canon isn't canon. Canon is so repulsed by fanon that they make a new character that doesn't care about his brother, doesn't have an inkling of depression, and just in general makes him so much more of a flat, uninteresting, boring character that is comic relief once in a while, but in general isn't a bigger character, then anything fanon has ever done.

Characters: Undyne and Alphys

&& finally it’s time (BLARES MINI TRUMPETS) To cover the Royal Family. So as the summary of the story goes, the previous Empress had dusted due to lack of hope in the Underground once the Monsters had been sealed underground. She then gave life to her offspring, to the next empress of the Underground, Undyne. She had her mother’s spark of spunk && desire to fight, seeing as even along with challenging her mother at times, she’d do this with Asgore. It was a family thing really, something that helped her become stronger. Though despite the fact that she lost her Mother, Undyne swore to keep all of Monster Kind alive. She promised to protect all of their hopes && dreams like a true heroine would; she promised to be as great as Unafyne was. The Dreemurrs, as explained previously do end up taking more guardianship of the Empress as time goes on, they’re practically extended family after all! Asgore, while he’s fully trained && a pro from a war helps Undyne with becoming as strong as she possibly can. Though as ruthless as she can be, Undyne really has a huge heart. When you confront Asgore before traveling to Hotland, after saving his son from falling to his death, does he not directly stop you; he has been ordered to kill you, yes...but depending on whatever route you’re taking (we’re defaulting to paci for easier stuff), he sees a spark of something in you. He says Undyne isn’t the easiest challenge, he knows...he helped train her, after all. He dosen’t want to see the player, so weak as they are to die by her spears like many have before. That’s why he tells you that if you defeat him, you’re pretty much strong enough to take on Undyne herself.

Alphys on the other hand is nothing like UT Toriel at all. She didn’t flee for the ruins because she was disgusted by the fact that Undyne was killing all of these innocent children because she felt like she had to to break the barrier. NO! Alphys fled out of fear. After hearing this document that went through about any human child who falls down the mountain being killed for their soul--right after Alphys had lost both her younger brother && a human child they saw as their own

 Alphys was scared. While she finally was royalty with Undyne, she still remained the nervous one who swore to stay brave. She dosen’t show it much when the player is in the ruins, but every day she regrets the decision she made...but it was for the best, right? She keeps the child out of the basement because she dosen’t want to see them suffer, she’s terrified of losing someone else.

She’s not mad at Undyne like UT Toriel is to Asgore, her first words about the Empress is that she’s afraid if the player goes any further that Undyne will take her soul within an instant. She shows no signs of bitterness, but hopes her words are enough to persuade them.

EXTRAS:

Due to not being able to cook at all, Alphys dosen’t really ask for any preferences, instead she tells the player that she has something for them once they return

This item she gives you is GOLDEN FLOWER SODA, it isn’t quite tea like she knows Undyne would seem to drink now && then when with the Dreemurs (since it was Asgore’s favorite), but the item alone reminds her of Undyne

Undyne still turns your soul GREEN unlike one would assume Asgore does, their battle styles do remain quite the same as in UT. Empress Undyne however has a few attacks adapted from her UNDYING form in UT, && does use the aqua && orange attacks she learned as a child from Asgore

Undyne actually follows what UT Asgore asks you && asks if you’d like a cup of tea.

Irony

The royal scientist. A title of power, of a respected, disciplined, logical and serious person.

It was ironic that the holder of it was anything but.

Instead of the normal lab coat that all others wore, she wore a customized one, with pink frills hemmed on her cuffs and front mid seams, patches sewed on her sleeves and back by hand. Her hair was not pulled back to comply with protocol, poofing out to the sides.

She was impulsive, reckless, rarely thought things through, and irresponsible. She was the type of monster that usually would not be allowed in a mile radius of the lab.

However, she had out of the box thinking that miraculously yielded results that outweighed the failures profoundly, which is how Mew Mew, or Maddie to most, was given top authority despite how if you asked anyone who knew her, they would tell you she was bound to burn anything she has control over to the ground.

Surprisingly, instead of her burning it down, she was the one who was burnt.
