Whumptober Day 4: Fun Uncles
AO3
Written for the prompt: Shock
Nineteen years agoâŚ
When the last mourner leaves thereâs an air of finality. Like now that theyâve finished with the funeral, Dad is really dead.
Zenkichi, Tsuru, and Mom all just sort of sit around the family room, not saying anything, until someoneâs stomach growls.
âTsuru, could you please make some dinner?â Mom asks.
Tsuru wordlessly gets up and heads into the kitchen, but soon enough thereâs a loud crash and the sound of plates breaking.
âDamn it, Tsuru!â Mom snaps, and Zenkichi follows her into the kitchen, where Tsuruâs standing, surrounded by shards of ceramic.Â
âSorry, I was justââ
âI donât want to hear it! Go grab something to clean this up.â
Tsuru hangs her head and runs out.
âThat girl, she doesnât know how lucky she is, beautiful, never has to worry about her weight, if she could be bothered to behave properly men would be lining up to marry her,â Mom huffs. âCouldnât even wear proper clothes throughout the whole ceremony.â
âMom, itâs hot out. You know Tsuru doesnât do too well in the heat, especially not decked head to toe in black. Dad certainly wouldnât want her collapsing from heatstroke just because of him.â
âEven more reason she should focus on being a proper housewife! She canât even go out, so she could damn well learn to keep house.â
âOk, ok, I think weâre all tired,â Zenkichi says. âHow about we just call Oishiâs and get some food delivered. One less thing to worry about.â
Tsuru comes back in with a broom.Â
âYouâre bleeding,â Zenkichi says as Mom snatches the broom out of Tsuruâs hands.
She starts sweeping the mess, and Zenkichi pulls Tsuru into the bathroom where they keep their first aid kit.
âI can do it, itâs not that deep,â Tsuru mumbles.
âEh, come on, let me do it.â
âHow mad is Mom?â
âSheâs stressed.â
âSure, but how mad is she at me?â
âLook, itâs been a long day, sheâll be over it in the morning. Weâre gonna call Oishiâs and get some delivery.â
âCan we go pick it up?â Tsuru asks. âWhen you leave, I wonât have anyone to go out with, might as well spend as much time as I can outside of this place.â
âWhy donât you ask mom? Or one of your friends, didnât you mentionââ
âShe doesnât know about them,â Tsuru says, âfor a reason.â
âTsuru, youâre being dramatic.â
âNo, Iâm not. Sheâs worse when youâre not here.â Tsuru sighs. âHurry up and get a job already so I can move in with you in Tokyo.â
âI still have five more months of training at the police academy. I might not even be stationed in Tokyo, you know.â
âI donât care. Anywhere is better than here. Anyone is better than her.â
âSheâs our Mom.â
âShe sure doesnât act like it.â
âYou know sheâs only like this because sheâs worried about you, right? Now that Dadâs dead, sheâs worried no one will take care of you if she dies.â
âWonât you be around?â
âWell, you know how she is, she thinks that when Iâm a family man, Iâm not going to have time to look after my baby sister.
Tsuru kicks him. âIâm not a baby, dummy.â
âSure sound like one, calling people dummy.â
Tsuru cracks a smile for the first time since Zenkichi came home for the funeral. âI guess if three years difference makes me a baby, you can carry me all the way to Oishiâs.â
âYeah, no.â
âCome on!â
âNo.â
Present
According to the forecast, the day they leave Sapporo is the hottest of the summer, and Yusuke can definitely feel that.
He feels like heâs wading through soup with all the humidity.Â
âYusuke? Are you alright?â Morgana asks while they pack up.
âThe heat,â Yusuke says. âAnd Iâm sore from our fight with Shadow Mariko yesterday.â His neck and shoulders hurt, but theyâre nothing compared to the pressure in his chest.
âWhy donât you rest for a bit then,â Haru says.
âI donât wantââ
âNah dude donât give us any of that âI donât want to be an inconvenienceâ crap,â Ryuji says, ârest a bit, we donât mind.â
Yusukeâs too tired to insist otherwise, so goes to sit on the bench.
He sees Inspector head over to them.
âYou kids almost ready?â he asks, but strangely itâs being drowned out by the ringing in Yusukeâs ears. Everything sounds vague and distant, and he canât follow the conversation at all.
Then Inspector Hasegawa seems to nice him and the Inspectorâs immediately concernedÂ
He opens his mouth to say something thatâs probably âKitagawa?!â but Yusuke canât hear it specifically because heâs too focused on the way everythingâs spinning.
~
âNiijima, call an ambulance. Sakamoto, help me lie him on the ground,â Zenkichi says.
âWh-whatâsââ Niijima stammers but Zenkichi doesnât have time for this.
Sakamoto helps him lay Kitagawa on the ground. âGood, now raise his feet slightly above his head,â Zenkichi instructs.
âOk.â Sakamoto does, and thereâs a small crowd coming to the scene, but Zenkichi doesnât even have to tell Amamiya to keep them away.
Kitagawa still isnât responsive, but starts taking gasping breaths that are fewer and farther between, so Zenkichi moves to perform CPR.
Old habits really do die hard. Itâs been years since Zenkichi spent his summers taking CPR training, but his hands move on his own at the right rhythm.
He feels Kitagwaâs ribs cracks, and Sakamoto winces in sympathy, but Zenkichi isnât bothered. He keeps going until Kitagawaâs eyes flutter open, just as the ambulance arrives.
Zenkichi follows the paramedics, who give him a questioning look, but Zenkichi doesnât want to bother with it.
âIâm his uncle.â
The paramedic nods and lets him in.
Eighteen years agoâŚ
Thereâs an inexplicable feeling of dread when Zenkichi comes home. No movement, not from Tsuru in her art room nor Mom in the living room.Â
His visit home was supposed to be a surprise, but he didnât expect them to be out.
After waiting a second, Zenkichi grabs his gun before heading inside.Â
He feels some sort of relief when he realizes the door is still locked and has no sign of being forced open.Â
Unfortunately, he relaxed too soon.
Because when he enters, he sees his motherâs cold, dead, body at the bottom of the stairs, surrounded by days-old dry blood.
Zenkichi wants to scream, cry, and throw up all at once.
Instead he runs upstairs to check Tsuruâs room.
Itâs completely empty, but there are signs of a fight with broken canvases and paint cans that look kicked over. Normally, Tsuruâs window is always locked, but now itâs wide open and thereâs the remnants of what looks like a sheet tied to the table.Â
Other than that, thereâs no sign of Tsuru in the house.
Present
Thereâs a whirr of activity that eventually settles with Zenkichi sitting in the hospital room with Kitagawa.
A doctor comes in. âHello, youâre his uncle?â she asks. âHave you contacted his parents?â
âNo, they passed away,â Zenkichi says. âBut Iâm responsible for him at the moment.â
âDo you have his medical information?â
âNo, but his mother suffered from hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.âÂ
âOf course, probably complications from the heat. Make sure heâs rested and hydrated and doesnât stay outside for too long. You administered CPR?â
âYes.â
âYou did a good job. Cracking the ribs is a normal occurrence so I donât want you to thinkââ
âI know, I did it to his mother too,â Zenkichi admits. Heâd been absolutely panicked when she collapsed during a school picnic and spent the whole time inconsolable until his father explained he hadnât made it worse.
âAh, well I just didnât want you worrying you did something wrong. You saved his life.â
âThank you, Doctor.â
âDo you know of any medications heâs taking?â
âNo, Iâm sorry.â
âWell, Iâd like to keep him for a bit just to make sure thereâs no complications. Iâm sure youâve noticed but heâs severely underweight and suffering from anemia. We might end up keeping him overnight.â
âAlright, thank you.â
The doctor leaves and Zenkichi practically collapses into the nearest chair.
God, heâs more exhausted than heâs been in a long time. Theyâll probably end up staying in Sapporo an extra day andâ
Oh. Oh no.
Zenkichi pulls out his phone and calls Akane.
âWhere are you?â Akane asks as soon as the phone picks up.
Zenkichi sighs. âLook, Iâm not going to be home tonight.â
âWHAT?! What are you doing?!â
âIâm sorry! I donât want to do this, but your cousin had a heart attack.â
âHuh? Grandma and Grandpa didnâtââ
âNo, on my side of the family. My sisterâs son.â
âAre you serious? You canât come up with a better lie?! You only mention your sister sometimes and I sure as hell havenât met her.â
âItâs really, really complicated. I promise Iâll explain tomorrow.â
âYeah, whatever. See you.â The line clicks, and Zenkichi throws his head back. Why is his life like this?
âIs that your daughter?âÂ
Zenkichi snaps his head up, and Kitagwas awake.Â
âKitagawa!â
âLying to the hospital is one thing,â Kitagawa says, âbut thereâs no need to lie to your daughter for my sake.â
Itâs funny that for all Kitagawa inherits from his father, he makes the exact same look as Tsuru did when she caught Zenkichi in a lie.Â
Daring him to try and dig himself deeper.
âEr, right.â Zenkichi scratches his head. âLook, Kitagawa. I wasnât⌠exactly lying.â
âSo what you told the doctor was true? Youâre my uncle?â
âYouâve been listening in that long, huh?â
âWhy didnât you say anything?â
The way Kitagwaâs glaring at him, Zenkichi feels a pang of nostalgia. Honestly, itâs been so long, he even misses Tsuru being mad at him. âI wanted to tell you, I just didnât know the right time. Itâs not like I can just walk up to someone Iâm investigating and say âhey, Iâm your long lost uncle!ââ
âAre we still just people youâre investigating at this point?âÂ
âWellâŚâ
Kitagawaâs frown gets deeper. âFine. Did you know my mother died? Why did you never come to pay your respects?â
âThatâs⌠I didnât think sheâd want me there. Or to have anything to do with you,â Zenkichi says.
âThen tell me why. I think you owe me that, at least.â
Zenkichi takes a deep breath. âYeah, youâre right.â
Eighteen years agoâŚ
Zenkichi hasnât slept in weeks. If heâs right, heâs tracked Tsuru to Tokyo of all places. Supposedly someoneâs seen her working at this ramen shop, so Zenkichi settles in to a seat by the door, and waits all day.
His tab is pretty expensive by the time Tsuru shows up, slipping in discreetly by the back and relieving a stressed-out high school student. She goes to talk with the owner and locks eyes with Zenkichi.
They stare at each other across the shop for a second, before Tsuru whispers something quickly to the owner, clearly apologizing, then heads over to Zenkichi.
âLetâs go outside,â she says, and Zenkichi lets her lead the way out.
They go around back, and the second theyâre out of sight of any cameras, Zenkichi pulls her into a hug.
âAre you ok? Youâre not hurt, are you?âÂ
Tsuru blinks at him. âW-wow, I thought youâd open with yelling.â
âWhoâs behind this? The owner?â
âW-what? No, behind what?â
âWho kidnapped you?â
Tsuru groans. âOh, ok is that how Momâs dealing with it? Of course not, itâs never her fault.â
âTsuru, Momâs dead.â
Tsuruâs face goes pale. âW-what? W-what happened?â
âBlunt force trauma to the back of the head, what do you mean âthatâs how sheâs dealing with it?ââ
âI wasnât kidnapped,â Tsuru says. âI ran away.â
Zenkichi feels his eye twitch. âWhat?â
âI ran away.â
âWhat do you mean you ran away?â
âI couldnât stay in that house anymore, so I ran away.â
âOn your own?! Tsuru, do you know how worried Iâve been?! Of all the stupid littleââ
âStupid?! Are you kidding me, I tried to tell you so many times, but you never believed me?â
âWhat about the canvases then?â
âMom broke them! Sheâs been breaking them for years when sheâs mad at me!â Tsuru snaps. âAnd I could never bear to throw them out, so I kept them and left them in my room so sheâd remember why I left!â
âI thought someone had broken into your room because you felt like being dramatic?â
âGah! This is why I didnât talk to you!â
âTsuru I havenât slept in weeks trying to investigate your disappearance and momâs death.â Suddenly Zenkichi stops, and he steps back from her. â...did you do it?â
âDo what?â
âDid you kill Mom?â
âWhat? Have you gone crazy?â
âYou had a fight, you pushed her down the stairs, and then you panicked.â
âFirst of all, thatâd have to be a pretty hefty shove, and as youâll remember I can barely throw a ball 30cm. All my life itâs been âoh no Tsurur youâre too small for that, yuâre too weak for that, you canât do that,â but now you think I can shove someone with 30 pounds on me hard enough to send them down the stairs?!â Tsuru gasps. âBesides, If it was an accident I would have called you.â.
âYou didnât call me when you decided to run away to Tokyo!â
âBecause youâd tell Mom, and it wouldnât be safe forââ Tsuru clutches her stomach and looks away. âThatâs different, ok?â
âThen maybe when you left you left the window open and someone broke in and killed Mom,â Zenkichi says. âEither way you still killed her.â
âThatâsâ thatâs not true.â
âCome on, weâre going to the police station.â Zenkichi says, grabbing for her wrist, but Tsuru snaps it back.
âWhat? N-no, I didnât do anything wrong.â
âIâm betting you were hired under a fake name,â Zenkichi says. âYou may have tampered with a crime scene.â
âI told you I didnâ kill Mom!â
âWell I canât believe you now, can I?â Zenkichi says. âI thought youâd tell me about something like this, so how can I know youâre being honest with me now.â
âYouâre not even working Momâs case. They wouldnât let you.â
âOh so you want to call an officer and wait for a police car?â
âYouâre just doing this because youâre mad at me!â
âNo, Iâm not, Iâm acting as an officer of the law, and since you were the last one to see Mom alive, youâre a suspect, and should be interrogated.â
Tsuru looks down on the ground and mutters something.
âWhat was that?âÂ
â...I hate you,â Tsuru says without raising her voice. âIâve been so worried I was wrong not to trust you, and here you are proving my right. I hate you! I hate you so much!â Then she walks off.
âWhere are you going?â
âTo the police station, thatâs what you wanted right? Then once they explain youâre ridiculous for thinking I could kill Mom, then Iâll decide if I ever want to talk to you again.â
Present
Yusuke doesnât know how to feel after Inspector Hasegawaâ should he call him Uncle?â finishes. He grasps for the first thought he can force into intelligible words.
âAnd after that?â
âI got chewed out for accessing information on a case I wasnât working on to track down your mom, she showed her train ticket to prove she was already gone by momâs ETD, and then she never spoke to me again,â Inspector Uncle Hasegawa says.
âWere you still angry with her?â
âI held out for a year being stubborn. Then I didnât know how to talk to her.â
âDid you know about me? Did you know sheâd died?â
âYes. Itâs not like I was stalking her or anything, but I⌠kept tabs on her. When she died, Iâd heard you were living with a family friend, so I figured thatâd be better for everyone.â
Yusuke would be lying if he said he didnât see Hasegawaâs side of things. Itâs not like heâd know what to say.
But another part of him is stewing in an ice cold rage. Madarame had always said he should be grateful, that Yusuke had no other family who would want to take him in. Was that just another lie or an accidental truth considering his uncle had never even tried to reach out to him after his motherâs death.
His motherâs death stands out as the one sharp point of the haze of his early childhood, and he remembers it being just him, Madarame, and a few other mourners. If Hasegawa had been there, he never spoke to Yusuke.
Though, given the look on Hasegawaâs face, nowâs not the time to go into that.Â
So Yusuke swallows his rage. âCan you send the doctor in? I suppose I need to give her my medical information.â
âOh, sure, of course. Iâll go tell your friends everything.â
Inspector Uncle Hasegawa gets up, and something in his bearing makes Yusuke feels as though heâs only added to the weight the man has been carrying all these years.

Technically @askmarietheapprentice made the connection first but Iâve always said we know so little about Yusukeâs family that itâs really easy to justify him being related to a lot of characters, because itâs not like he would know either.
Also also Yusukeâs movie date in P5 is to the Les Mis parody and Zenkichiâs persona is Jean Valjean so like it works pretty well
@yusuke-of-valla made an interesting connection that foxes and wolves are a part of the same animal family⌠and we dont know much about yusukeâs family⌠hmmmâŚâŚâŚâŚ.Â
#like itâs not like he had any next of kin to take in him in#if his mother got pregnant young while his father was never in the picture#or she wanted to pursue art instead of another career#itâs easy to say sheâs been disowned by her family or is distanced from them#then boom. secret family reveal#uncle zenkichi conspiracy board

I am only just now realizing how much Zenkichiâs backstory makes the AU where heâs Yusukeâs uncle even more *internal screaming* because like
Youâre Zenkichi Hasegawa, youâre a cop, your wife died two years ago, your daughter hates you and you kind of hate yourself because youâve been forced to drop the case surrounding your wifeâs death
You get assigned to this case and while investigating you stop by a coffee shop where thereâs a painting that looks eerily similar to your dead sister (who like, best case scenario was already estranged from the family, worst case scenario Madarame actively manipulated your sisterâs child to keep him away from the family)
You get bullied mercilessly by some teenagers and then have your mind blown by alternate worlds and talking cats and now youâre working with these teenagers who you are also supposed to maybe arrest at some point
So you get a call to meet the kids in Sendai because they found another Jail and get them access to a launch party, and specifically tell them not to make a scene. They make a scene anyway because their target said a painting by one of the teenâs mother belonged in the trash and while Sakamotoâs trying to convince you that âit wasnât that bad, seriously I mean Yusuke coulda decked the guy and then weâd be in real troubleâ you learn that the painting by the kidâs mom is a self-portraitâ the same one that was in the cafeâ meaning this kid is your nephew
Your nephew is also specifically the one who cries every time he eats because all evidence points to this being the first time in months where heâs been having regular meals, if not literally since he left Madarameâs.
So youâre kind of left to stew on that and the way to broach the topic of âsooo we might be related?â to the kids who specifically do not trust you
Then while that happens the anniversary of your wifeâs death comes up and youâre late to pay your respects and then these kids barge into your house and stay over and itâs actually kind of nice because your daughter is happy for once but this only confirms the fact that she hates you so that sucks.
Then you take a trip to Okinawa and get even more bullied by the group of teenagers until you get chased and cornered by a mob of angry locals whoâve been brainwashed
And now youâre sitting alone in a creepy lab AND YOU STILL HAVENâT BROUGHT UP THE PART WHERE YUSUKEâS YOUR NEPHEW

So Iâve been working on a proper Uncle Zenkichi AU fic since I beat Strikers almost a year ago now and obviously that isnât coming together but I do like how this scene turned out even if Iâm not sure itâll even be in the final fic so... here
~
Zenkichiâs sister, Tsuru, had always been the more artistic of the two of them. She just sort of had an eye for color and patterns that Zenkichi could never understand or follow. Maybe if he practiced heâd get it, but it never really interested him so he never bothered. However, even without his sisterâs talent, even he could tell that the nursery looked awful
Aoi had been so stressed preparing for the baby, that Zenkichi had hoped he could help by getting this out of the way while she was away at her parentsâ for the weekend. Theyâd discussed what colors and designs they wanted, and Zenkichi made sure to keep track of all of it to be extra sure he got it right. Then it was simply a matter of painting the walls, right?
Easier said than done.
âWow, Uncle! That looks really bad.â Yusuke pointed out helpfully from behind his mother.
âYusuke!â Tsuru whispered.
âNo, itâs fine,â Zenkichi sighed. âHeâs right. I mean, the walls look like theyâre melting.â
âYou put the paint on too thick,â Yusuke explained.Â
Zenkichi collapsed into the nearby kitchen chair. âAoiâs going to hate me.â
âAoi will not hate you,â Tsuru said, âbecause we are going to fix this. Sheâs not coming back until the day after tomorrow, right?â
âRight.â
âGreat! So first things first,â Tsuru knelt down next to Yusuke, âhey bud? How about you start painting over the bears in the corner while I talk with your uncle for a bit?â
Yusuke poked his head around his mother to look into the nursery. âI think theyâre supposed to be houses,â he said.
âFlowers,â Zenkichi sighed, not lifting his head from the table. âTheyâre supposed to be flowers.â
âWhy are they brown then?â Yusuke asked.
âI was going for red.â
âOh well, next time you should--â
âYusuke!â Tsuru coughed. âJust get started. Let me know if you need help, ok?â
âOk!â Yusuke happily grabbed a paintbrush and went into the nursery, leaving Tsuru and Zenkichi alone.
âIs he going to be okay?â Zenkichi asked.
âOh Yusukeâll be fine. Iâll have to wash some paint out of his hair later but he can handle painting over some stuff.â Suddenly Tsuru stopped. âOh, shi- I mean shoot, unless there was anything you wanted to keep?â
âTsuru, even the toddler saw it was a mess, there's no salvaging that.â
âSince when are you such a pessimist?â Tsuru asked. âWater? Tea?â
âIâll take a coffee with a cup of whisky mixed in.â
âYeah, no. You clearly need a nap.â She slid a glass of water over to him and sat at the other side of the table. âSo seriously, whatâs going on? You look like shit, when was the last time you even slept. It canât just be the nursery.â
Zenkichi lifted his head. âTsuru, if I canât paint a room, how the hell am I supposed to be a good father?âÂ
âOookay,â Tsuru whistled. âSo you definitely need a nap. But to answer your question, youâre gonna be a great dad. Thatâs just nerves talking! Believe me, I was the same way with Yusuke. The room isnât some portent of your ability to raise a kid.â
âBut if I fuck up with the kid, I canât just call you to help fix things!â
âWell for one please donât curse within earshot of Yusuke,â Tsuru said, âand for another, who says you canât? I called you when I needed someone to watch Yusuke while I was at the doctorâs or working. Itâs ok to ask for help.â
âThatâs not the same thing!â
âWhat, are you worried youâre going to drop the baby? You never had a problem with Yusuke.â
âNo. What if I, I donât know, forget to pick her up from school or something?â
âWell then you should pick her up, and apologize. Preferably with ice cream. Then donât do it again. Put it on your calendar or something.â
âHow can you be so flippant?â Zenkichi snapped.Â
âIâm just trying to make you see that you donât need to worry!â
âThis is a human child, Tsuru! Theyâre not something you can take lightly! â
âI know that! Try raising a kid on your own while holding down two jobs and then weâll talk about taking things lightly!âÂ
Tsuru took a sip from her glass. âDa- darn it, maybe Iâm explaining this wrong. I know you can fuck up a kid, you know I do. But it takes more than forgetting a few dates or picking a wrong outfit, you know? With those things, itâs like when you fuck up with any person. You apologize and you do your damndest to make sure it doesnât happen again. You talk and find a way to compromise and you work together. And maybe the kid isnât as good as that as an adult is, but if youâre patient with them, you can figure it out. The way you fuck up with a kid is not caring at all, or being so stuck in your ways that you donât listen. Just trying, and letting them know that youâre trying, goes a long way.â
âYou make it sound so simple,â Zenkichi sighed.
âLots of things sound simple on paper,â Tsuru replied. âOr maybe Iâm completely wrong and when Yusuke grows up heâs going to have all sorts of issues because his mom asked how he was feeling too much and smothered him and then she died.â
âNow who's being morbid?â
Tsuru chuckled. âAll I know, Zen, is what I hated about growing up, and try to steer as far away from that as possible. I just want things to be better for Yusuke. Thatâs all any of us can really do.â

Post Strikers Akekita + Uncle Zenkichi AU where Goro is surprised when Yusuke invites him to Kyoto to meet his family because last time Goro checked Yusukeâs family was dead, but then Goro was considered dead a month ago so he canât complain.
Then it turns out Yusukeâs uncle is also a Phantom Thief which was during a whole thing in the summer and ok. Sure. Goroâs missed a lot. Random old guys are Phantom Thieves now, whatever
The biggest shock is Yusukeâs cousin who is a MASSIVE Phangirl and despises Akechi for shit talking the Phantom Thieves
Itâs an interesting dinner
#Yusuke is incapabale of feeling embarassment but he would like Akane to stop yelling at his boyfriend please#Zenkichi is not prepared for this is he supposed to be scary or helpful or intimidating what is the protocol here#he didnât think heâd have to do this until Akane was older#does his nephewâs boyfriend being an assassin affect this???#uncle zenkichi conspiracy board

Very funny set up for Uncle Zenkichi AU is: Zenkichi is absolutely overthinking this because he and Mama Kitagawa did not leave off on good terms and also heâs supposed to arrest the PT so heâs just over here *internally screaming*
Meanwhile Yusuke is just like âliterally every single other person I consider family has randomly barged in on my life so like this isnât actually THAT weirdâ and is just absolutely chilling with Akane whoâs like âitâs kinda weird my dad disappeared for work and came back with a cousin Iâve never heard of and a bunch of other teenagers but theyâre super cool and like the Phantom Thieves and are generally interested in my existence so I like themâ and theyâre talking about stuff and Akane is showing him how TikTok works and info dumping on their special interests while Zenkichi is having an existential crisis in the next room.
Bonus points if the Phantom Thieves try to help Yusuke get along with Zenkichi and Akane and so one of them letâs it slip that, you know Yusuke designed the Phantom Thief logo and Akane absolutely loses her mind.

God Iâm thinking about Uncle Zenkichi AU but Zenkichi and Aoi take Yusuke in after his mom died so Yusuke grew up with them and Akane and the absolute chaos when Akane finds out Yusukeâs a Phantom Thief
#honestly what probably happens is Yusuke was planning to go back to Kyoto for summer break but couldnât because of Futabaâs palace#and told Akane the truth because she was going to be disappointed and the least he can do is give her a proper explanation and like#she can keep a secret#and Akane is massively disappointed for .5 seconds then finds out heâs a phantom thief abd LOSES HER MIND#uncle zenkichi conspiracy board

Yusuke making Akane a logo for her stream. She hugs him.
She would be so touched he designed something for her and you know Yusuke would have watched a bunch of her old streams to get the vibe

Tragically I cannot put polls on the reblog so I can't do a follow up but here's the context
AITA for accusing my sister of (accidentally) killing our mom?
I (22M) was recently made a police officer and I went home to surprise my mother and sister (19F) with a visit but when I got there, my mom was dead, my sister was missing, and a bunch of my sisterâs stuff was broken.
While I wasnât allowed to officially work the case since Iâm personally involved and itâs in an entirely different jurisdiction, I did investigate to track down my sister and found her living in Tokyo.
When I went up to her, she said she wasnât kidnapped but had run away from home and her canvases and art supplies were trashed from a fight with our mom, and that she hadnât even realized our mom was dead.
Given she wasnât kidnapped, that made her a suspect in our momâs death, even though I know she wouldnât do that. I thought it was an accident and told her we had to go to the police station, but she got really mad at me and ran off, saying this is why she knew she couldnât trust me enough to come get my help in the first place.

Okay but Yusuke and Akane having a Yu and Nanako-esque relationship in the Uncle Zenkichi AU?
Yes exactly. That is exactly the vibes

I know nothing about Zenkichi other than some stuff from the trailers but AUs where he is Yusukeâs uncle are good because
1) Wolves and Foxes are in the same animal family
2) Jean Valjean was arrested for trying to feed his sister and her children so like I can make that work

So itâs not an Alto AUâ˘ď¸ without AUs of the AU so presenting: Uncle Zenkichi AU but with ageswapped Akane and Yusuke because I feel like Akane would really love having a younger cousin to dote on.
Not super thought out but some ideas are
Akane became a bit of a delinquent due to her motherâs death. Part of it was lashing out, part of it was her breaking into places she wasnât supposed to to try and get proof Owada did it
Zenkichi is even more at a loss with what to do with her than he is in canon
Natsume, after a 13 year old tells him his book sucks: who is this sassy lost child
Akane still does streams, but also records her doing Phantom Thief parkour and investigates some cold cases. Sheâs more actively pursuing justice like the Phantom Thieves
Akane: I have known Yusuke for a day and a half and if anything happened to him I would kill everyone in this room and then myself
This is mostly just a headcanon I have in general for Yusuke as a kid but he carries around stickers everywhere and likes to put them on things
Zenkichi is not chill about a middle schooler being a phantom thief, even before realizing the middle schooler is his nephew

Dumb thought:
Zenkichi: [blah blah blah if you donât help us with this weâll pin the blame on you]
Yusuke:
Yusuke: hey mom Uncle Zenkichi is blackmailing us
Mama Kitagawa, appearing at Leblanc instantly: WHAT THE FUCK
Zenkichi: *fear*
