@unblot​​ asked: rielle’s teaching jade some of the basics of playing guitar. surprisingly he’s a very attentive teacher when it comes to things he feels confident in. gently he takes hold of jade’s hands, gingerly guiding them & positioning his fingers so he can play the first chord. “you see with string instruments, your finger placement is crucial. if you slip you could play the wrong note & mess up the song. you have to be quick & precise. okay, let’s see you try.”

what rielle doesn’t know is that jade already knows how to play string instruments. admittedly an acoustic guitar is smaller and different from the contrabass he used to play regularly in middle school and has picked up a time or two for the lounge, but it’s still a string instrument. he knows about finger placement and what the notes are.

but he’s omitted that little detail from rielle — it was initially an accident, with jade not finding the proper time to mention his history with string instruments. now the admission is carefully locked behind his gentle smile as rielle takes his hands in his own to guide and position his fingers where they need to go. “ let’s see what i can do, ” jade muses, and if rielle doesn’t pick up on the subtle amusement in the tone, jade wouldn’t be able to blame him. he’s always had an impeccable poker face.

but the ruse is up when he plays a few chords, only mildly unsure with the unfamiliar instrument in his arms.
