I’m finally properly watching the NGE rebuilds and 20 minutes in I already have so many questions.

The scene where Shinji is conflicted over getting in the Eva honestly feels a little... rushed? Especially Misato’s dialogue. She says, “Shinji, you musn’t run away. Not from your father, not from yourself.” This seems over-familiar considering that they just met, because the normal assumption to make would be that Shinji is trying to run away from the obvious danger involved in fighting a giant monster. Was Misato able to guess his actual state of mind just based on what he says? Is she projecting her issues onto him? From what I recall, throughout the series Misato kind of flip-flops between genuine intuition and projecting her assumptions about the world onto others, especially Shinji.

Also, was it ever explained how a healthy Rei was able to appear before Shinji at the very start of NGE? Was it supposed to be one of her clones? Come to think of it, it’s possible that many things involving Rei are just supposed to be surreal. Because Shinji apparently had a dream about his parents discussing what they would name their future child-- “Shinji if it’s a boy, Rei if it’s a girl.” It’s obviously impossible for him to have actually remembered such a conversation. A possible explanation for this, aside from surrealism, is that Shinji constructed the memory.  It sort of makes sense that upon meeting Rei, a clone of his mother, he subconsciously noted their similarities and thus constructed the “memory” of his parents’ conversation.

I think the most impressive part of evangelion is the way it perfectly captures depression/melancholy with Shinji's facial expression

End of Evangelion was kind of terrible, but I did completely change my mind about Asuka. She is great and deserves Happiness. 

I wonder if I should watch the Rebuild series. :/ It might be better...

I could be wrong, but at this point, the day after she got Shinji settled in at her house, it seems like Misato is a bit disappointed with him. I’m inclined to agree with Ritsuko’s estimation of her thoughts. Maybe Misato was expecting it to be fun and simple family bonding time but now she’s like “Oh so he has ISSUES issues”

I attempted to watch the Evangelion Rebuilds and it didn’t go well but I might go back just to watch Mari’s parts because I’M LOVE HER?????????
