23.5 Ep 1 Stray Thoughts
Well, it's taken forever but we're finally here. Let's watch the Milk/Love GL.
Wow are we starting with a UMG joke??
So glad they taught Love how to drive a motorcycle for this show.
Episode 1: The Sun and The Earth
I'm glad this family of sisters has a cousin who's super deep on science and science fiction.
Wow, Ongsa is too gay to function.
I forget how young some of these kids still are. Ford looks like he's grown since MSP.
LOL this teacher is funny.
Whoa! They're reading Ender's Game! Look at the classic cover!!
WELCOME BACK, EURO!!! Please kill these boys.
Oh no. He accidentally hit our girl in the face.
Sun is very cool. I get it, Ongsa.
Classic lesbian content. Both girls' fathers have an affinity for them.
The moon and stars looked like a smile. That was cute.
That roll across the bed was incredible. I loved that.
Bullying in the modern age is so vicious because everyone is always online.
Love that the big sister has enough presence to scare these boys.
Euro has good comedic timing.
I'm okay with GMMTV being unsubtle about correcting bad behavior or reinforcing good interpersonal behavior in their shows.
This IG flirting was so funny. Ongsa is so gay that she forgot that heterosexuality is a thing. I understand and I support her.
This was a fun start! I like the casting so far and I'm curious where they go with two of our girls being misfits.

I had to watch the trailer for The Trainee several time because the first time I. could. not. concentrate. I was trying to read slogans on shirts left right and centre, seeing clothes already on the communal wardrobe list, and then getting hit by NEW ONES 😍
Communal wardrobe items spotted so far: 3
1. Today is: Totally not my day.
Worn also in UMG and Only Friends.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. Good, Good! Times, Times! (Alright, "Good, Times, Good! Times!")
Worn also in Cutie Pie 2 You.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3. Nick's Sweater
Worn also in Only Friends.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyway...I'm looking forward to this one, not least because I'd happily watch Gun and Off fall in love with each other a million times over, but I'm loving the supporting cast too.
How I'm feeling now (and an absolutely brilliant addition to the t-shirt slogan collection):

Drake and Kendrick Lamar’s ongoing feud already had high marks for being the most technology-fueled rap beef of all time. Dis tracks on Instagram, lyric breakdowns on podcasts, concerts livestreamed on Amazon Prime Video. This week, though, the role technology plays in the dustup hit new highs (or lows?) via a pair of court filings from Drake, both of them pointing to the importance of streaming music platforms in popular music.
In the first filing, a pre-action petition filed Monday in New York, attorneys for Drake’s company Frozen Moments accused Lamar’s record label Universal Music Group (UMG) of using several methods to increase plays on “Not Like Us,” including allegations that the record company paid Apple to have Siri direct listeners to the track when they requested Certified Loverboy.
Drake’s lawyers wrote that “online sources reported that when users asked Siri to play the album Certified Loverboy by recording artist Aubrey Drake Graham d/b/a Drake, Siri instead played ‘Not Like Us,’ which contains the lyric ‘certified pedophile,’ an allegation against Drake.” It also alleges UMG, which is also Drake’s label, “paid, or approved payments to” Apple to have Siri do this.
In a second filing made in Texas that became public on Tuesday, Drake’s lawyers accused UMG of defamation, claiming the record label could have halted the release of “Not Like Us” or modified it to remove some of its “false” statements about Drake.
Defamation and Siri-souping are just a couple of the claims made in the petitions. They also allege UMG charged Spotify reduced licensing rates in exchange for the streaming service recommending Lamar’s song to listeners. There are also claims UMG used bots to inflate the streaming numbers for “Not Like Us,” which is approaching 1 billion streams on Spotify and was nominated for five Grammys earlier this month.
The first petition seeks “pre-action disclosure” of any evidence UMG or Spotify has regarding these allegations. The second does the same of UMG and iHeartRadio, the radio company Drake’s attorneys claim also participated in a “pay-to-play scheme” to promote “Not Like Us.”
Throughout their beef—which has been escalating since Lamar called out Drake on “Like That” in the spring and seemed all but ended after he dropped “Not Like Us”—both rappers have hurtled haymakers at each other through songs. Allegations regarding domestic violence, hypocrisy, and authenticity have been par for the course. That’s how hip-hop feuds work. But in a war of words that got as heated as Drake and Lamar’s did, to watch it now come to court filings about Spotify streams and Siri suggestions feels both lackluster and the epitome of what happens when rap beefs become so intertwined with technology. Longtime hip-hop fans will always have their opinions about who “won” the beef, but the historical record still counts cold, hard numbers—from Spotify streams to likes on an IG post.
UMG, Apple, and iHeartRadio did not respond to WIRED’s request for comment. A Spotify rep declined to give an on-record comment. On Monday, UMG provided a statement to Billboard denying that the record company “would do anything to undermine any of its artists” calling such allegations “offensive and untrue.” UMG, it continued, uses ethical practices when it comes to promoting its music and “no amount of contrived and absurd legal arguments in this pre-action submission can mask the fact that fans choose the music they want to hear.”
Damn.
As word of the filings spread, naturally the same meme machine that had been posting about the beef from the beginning hopped on the latest wave. There were photo edits on X placing Drake’s face as each cast member of a show called Law & Order: Spotify Victims Unit. Others claimed the rapper was “cooked forever.” Another post superimposed Drake’s face over that of “BBQ Becky,” the woman who called the authorities over a barbecue at a California park in 2018.
Others came armed with historical records, like music journalist Sowmya Krishnamurthy, who shared a Billboard story from 2018 about Spotify users requesting refunds after seeing too much promotion for Drake’s Scorpion album.
Other posts came from people more directly involved in the matter. In one of their filings, Drake’s lawyers claim “online sources reported” that Siri played “Not Like Us” when asked for Certified Loverboy. They cite a Vibe story in the filing as a source, but HipHopDX’s Jeremy Hecht, whose video inspired the Vibe piece, noted in a TikTok on Tuesday that that’s only part of the story. Many listeners, Hecht included, believe that Siri is just picking up lyrics and thinking people mean “certified pedophile" when they say “Certified Loverboy.”
While it’s still unknown what will happen with the petitions filed by Drake’s team, what’s more clear is that his feud with Lamar is about more than just rap. While fan consensus may be that Lamar was the victor in the beef, Drake’s legal actions show a desire for a recount. “Not Like Us” has more than 900 million plays on Spotify. Drake’s diss tracks like “Family Matters” and “Push Ups” have fewer than 200 million each, but he’s still a far-more-listened-to artist on the platform. Whether or not he’ll be heard, that’s another matter.

I don’t know if I should call this a peace of great music journalism. All I can say is this is the cast of characters spearheading our dissent into a fully synthetic world of plastic soulless robot music. Article mentioned someone asking an AI to make like a Backstreet Boys version of like John Coltranes kind of blue. The kind of dystopian shit of pure nightmares. Great read because it gave some context to the career of corporate music juggernauts like Lucian Grainge and what motivates informs and drives them which is ever more money for them less for artists. Anyway no need to freak out I ain’t listening to AI music now or in the future anyway.

Okay so Not Me was like my third or fourth Thai series ever, and certainly my introduction to Sing Harit. Well, I just started The Gifted (2018) and I am no expert, but it seems like every single other thing Sing has ever been in he plays the comic relief guy. From joyful puppyplay in Warp Effect to parenting an alien in UMG to Rockblocking Karan and Achi in Cherry Magic, I have never seen this man in another serious role. Because to meeeeee this begs the question of if P'Nuchy deliberately cast him in the role of the funny best friend who knows the underwear Black wears because he's just a silly guy like that, a goofy little birthday boy, no threat here no Vibes here, just an unserious relic of White and Black's easy-peasy rich kid past. I am suggesting that Todd was strategic casting. Subversive Sing Harit casting.
People who know more about the making of Not Me can u confirm/deny this for me? EITHER WAY I feel there should be more of it. I am amazed that he's playing Rock who reads as 19 going on 5 at this stage in his career, and played two high schoolers in 2023. He's deaging. Make him show more tits, directors!!

Double Savage, episode 1. I’ll likely not review this show until both weekly episodes air, so more tomorrow, but a quick summary: this show will be about older Korn (Ohm) and younger Win (Perth) as brothers, their family tension (Korn and Win’s dad hates Korn, mom does nothing about it), romantic competitiveness [Korn and Win both love Rung (FILM FILM FILM!)], and life angst, as Korn falls into a life of crime while Win becomes a cop.
Some quick thoughts so far:
1) Repeating myself that Ohm and his characters don’t shy away from shitty dads (Bad Buddy, 10 Years Ticket, and now this show): Korn’s father in this show immediately replaces Uea’s mom from Bed Friend as WORST PARENT EVER on current Thai television. I agree with the early reviews on Twitter that Korn and Win’s dad is a total bag of garbage. That being said...
2) I wonder if I’ll be able to explain this throughout the course of this show (if I stick with it -- my educated guess right now is that I will definitely be sticking with it), but unfortunately, the superstitions around, say, having a “bad luck child” are ones I’m familiar with from my background. (Korn and Win’s dad believes that Korn is a “jinx” as Korn was born during a recession, while Win was born during more prosperous times, per MDL.) I have aunts/uncles who have written off their children from the womb.
I wonder if they might seem like overdramatic devices to a Western audience, but those superstitious notions, along with the depiction of corporal punishment, hew to reality. Of course, because I’m an utter sucker for trauma in Asian families, these devices totally draw me in, and as long as they are directed deftly (and Toom Preedaporn seems be doing beautifully so far), I find them to be educational and helpful in setting cultural context. Same thing happened for me with 10 Years Ticket.
3) We have a great cast here -- and I’m not even familiar yet with Perth, and Satang, too, as I haven’t watched MSP yet:
Ohm and Perth -- FABULOUS TOGETHER ALREADY. OMG! Perth! Um! Yes, please. (What Perth shows do I need to watch? He’s FANTASTIC.) (I know Dangerous Romance is coming up.)
Film -- ALWAYS FABULOUS
Baitoei Zuvapit -- not familiar with her work, but nice to see a fabulous female actress *in her 30s* kickin’ it
Foei -- we have him coming up in episode 2 tomorrow, and he’s always great/insane
Satang -- I see a lot of commentary from peeps saying they’ll watch this show for him, which is great, and I guess it’s weird that I’m seeing him first in this and not in MSP, but I’m not watching MSP until I’m done watching the essential classic BLs!
That’s it for now. The acting is out of control, but let’s see about the script. I was heavily let down by UMG, and there’s no comparison, obviously, between these two shows, except that I believe Double Savage was another GMMTV pandemic holdover, so I want to see if it can hold up.
(@bengiyo -- FYI, New Siwaj is a screenwriter on this. Once I’m done with Love Sick 2, I’ll be onto Make It Right. It’ll be hilarious if I’m watching Make It Right simultaneously with Double Savage...)

UMG or whatever not letting their music in tiktok is soooooo fucking funny bc at the end of the day official music is used as a backdrop or building up force (transition videos) to the vids themselves. User made audios are wayyyy more popular( that’s why artists have started to include sped up versions as official releases) and it’s also how a lot of artists made money which APPARENTLY/ALLEGEDLY is why UMG took the music off. They weren’t getting enough money in the deal.
ANYWAYS tiktok is a melting pot and tons of talented ppl making shit in their basements SOMETIMES get major popularity but the ppl who can find their niche (and the ppl who care for it) are able to be comfortable? I won’t say rich or loaded and the amount u do have to post to hypothetically break even is insane at any rate but in terms of Influencership I think it gives creatives a large sea to cast a net and see who sticks

Do yoi think it's possible for Our Skyy2 to replace ABAAB when it's finished or we are actuallu gonna get Be my Favourite in place of that air slot? I hope it's OS2 cuz I am NOT mentally prepared for what BMF is gonna bring both here and on twitter after it releases, even if I will not watch it, wich is very probable, I am sure I am gonna get in contact with it trough screenshots and videos
p.s. do we know who is in it other than GK and Aye? (I'm too lazy to check MDL)
I'm 98% sure that BMF will replace ABAAB.
they're more ahead in the production process than OS2 and also it's a classic FriGay-BL so I'm pretty certain it's gonna go into that slot.
At the moment I feel like Our Skyy2 will either replace UMG on Sundays or the Midnight Series rerun on Saturdays as Home School is most likely replacing the PS I Hate You rerun on Wed+Thur. (but we should be getting more info on that today)
About the actors: Besides Gawin, Krist and Aye, Aou and Title will also be part of the cast.

Decca Records is a British record label established in 1929 by Edward Lewis. Its US label was established in late 1934 by Lewis, Jack Kapp (the first president of the Decca Record company of the USA) and Milton Rackmil, who later became American Decca's president too. In 1937, anticipating Nazi aggression leading to World War II, Lewis sold American Decca and the link between the UK.and US Decca label was broken for several decades. The British label was renowned for its development of recording methods, while the American company developed the concept of cast albums in the musical genre.
Both wings are now part of the Universal Music Group. The US Decca label became MCA Records, which formed half of what is now UMG (Universal Music Group).

23.5 Ep 2 Stray Thoughts
Last week, we started our first big GL from GMMTV and were introduced to so many fantastic characters, including but not limited to: Disaster Lesbian Ongsa, Sunshine Girl Sun, Obsessed With Aliens Aylin, Eldest Daughter Alpha, and the Boy Who Means Well Mawin. Ongsa is so gay that she passed out in school because Sun touched her. She’s so gay that she forgot that women sometimes date men. Two teachers are trans. They’re reading Ender’s Game, a story about destroying those you believe to be your enemies and only through trying to destroy them does a boy bred and trained to kill the other does he come to love them. I’m having a great time.
Sometimes I forget that AJ/JJ are only 23. I’ve been watching these boys play high schoolers for six years now, and I’m sure I will for six more.
Mawin is Mawin. How dare you?? Euro continues to be great at comedy.
I appreciate the rainbow at the end of the intro. Make sure people know this is about gay people.
Episode 2: Universe Club
Very much enjoying Ford and Earn as the nosy friends.
Sun is so confident in her flirting in these DMs.
What’s with the trans color pattern around the floral club? I hope this is a teaser for later!
Wait! Is Mawin interested in Tinh?
Is this going to be like Geography Club (2013) where the club is secretly just for the gays?
Now why would she throw her phone away and not just close the account? That makes no damn sense.
Why are we blaming a curse when she threw her own damn phone away?
Yes, Charoen, call her ass out.
When I was a kid, I watched bird shit land on a senior who was wearing a cast at the time. She was horrified.
Accidentally ghosted Sun and now she thinks she’s cursed! Ladies, please!
I am invested in the dynamic between Teachers Bambam and Nida.
Latte is always panting. I feel so bad for this dog. They probably have the A/C off to cut down on ambient noise.
I respect Sun for not being petty and leaving Earth on read.
Ton is feeling like he might be family. I’m feeling good about this since he played Ta and Non before so we know he’s down to clown as a queer character.
I’m still with this show. I like seeing Milk play a character with a lot of energy after UMG, and I like that they’re continuing to let Love play self-assured characters. I’m also enjoying the rest of the cast in this. It’s been a fun two weeks so far.

✨2023: A Summary✨
Post your most popular and/or favourite edit/gifset/analysis for each month (it’s okay to skip months!)
Tagged by @daymork - Thanks for wanting to see how my analyses 'popped off and what my personal favs are!' 💖
January
most popular — Bad Buddy/My School President parallel - not an analysis but people do love a good parallel!
favourite(s) — Never Let Me Go discussion - I love when something I write inspires others and it sets off a long thread where people keep adding to it. | Another Bad Buddy/My School President parallel - not technically my post but I love the additions I brought together on this.
February
most popular/favourite(s) — The colour-coding of Bed Friend - another long thread where others joined in.
March
most popular/favourite(s) — A ramble about Moonlight Chicken - which includes a little analysis of the show as it ended.
April
most popular — "What exactly does being blue/red/yellow/etc. coded mean?" - I don't get asks often but I was humbled that someone came to me to understand what colour-coding meant.
favourite(s) — Chains of Heart colours series - I was late to the series, and it ended disappointingly, but the colours were brilliant. | Colour-coded folks in UMG - not a bl but they also colour-coded the leads.
May - n/a - I didn't really write any big posts/analysis this month.
June
most popular — "It's the right moment to kiss!" Our Skyy 2 x BBS x ATOTS - Aof calling himself out as well as us bl fans.
favourite(s) — Colours in Our Skyy 2 BBS x ATOTS - I couldn't resist writing about it since it stayed consistent to how they used colours in the original series.
July
most popular — The casting of Be My Favourite - the realisation that the 'odd pairing' of Krist and Gawin was integral to the story being told.
favourite(s) — Be My Favourite ep 9 - the ep that got me thinking about the characters even more. | Kawi and his sense of Self - where I dip my toe into philosophy, theories of The Self, and how memory plays a part in that.
August
most popular/favourite(s) — Laws of Attraction ep 5 - I loved everything about this series but this was the one that got the most attention - maybe because it featured Silvy a lot? 😂
September
most popular — Friends don't let friends go - which pairs with Only friends stay (posted in Oct), and which say a lot about the group and Boston.
favourite(s) — Clowned correctly Laws of Attraction - I just love when something flippant I say is (sort of) right in the end!
October
most popular — The Rainbow Best sweater - not an analysis, nor any created art...but the sweater itself is art, as is that so many characters and actors have worn it.
favourite(s) — Getting emotional over Kiseki: Dear to Me - this was the ep that hit me in the feels. | The Thai Communal Wardrobe items #6 and #3 - again not analysis or art but the start of the communal wardrobe list!
November
most popular — Mhok's Fart Proudly t-shirt - this had me going back to my Bad Buddy days of analysing t-shirts.
favourite(s) — Horney Hockey part 1 and part 2 - more t-shirts, more fantastic additions. | A thought on Night and Day - I'm still so curious about Day and Night's relationship and I can't wait to find out what their deal is. | Band aids on Rung's car and the goldfish slippers the symbolism of Mhok and day's 'damage' and the healing that they're doing. | "It is only with the heart that one can see rightly" | The t-shirts are definitely t-shirting - these last two are essentially reflecting on the same thing - the sentiments in The Little Prince story that Mhok reads out in ep 1 of Last Twilight.
December
most popular — Mhok is Day's eyes - a brilliant use of colour in Last Twilight.
favourite(s) — Couple bracelets - just me excited over possibilities. | Most memorable items of clothing in bl series in 2023 - looking back through the year. | The Thai Communal Wardrobe bl advent - this was a fun series to do...and it only encompassed about a third of the items on the list, so I'll be posting them in dribs and drabs throughout the year.
--
Tagging people who also tend to write analysis or meta posts, I'd love to see which were a hit with the masses and also which were your favourites: @wen-kexing-apologist @grapejuicegay @lurkingshan @btwinlines @twig-tea @rocketturtle4 @waitmyturtles @telomeke and @respectthepetty

umg!
EEEEEEEEE!! TY FOR THIS GIFT
Favourite character: it's erng. hands down. my beautiful girl displaced in body and time who just wanted to be the first thai person in space 🥰😭
Funniest character: O. the fucking eagle call that plays any time he's trying to be serious kills me
Best-looking character: it's a lovely cast, and i'm very fond of nanon's styling for it, but once again tis erng. she is so gorgeous it's unreal and i am a weak queer amoeba
3 favourite ships: it's not really a huge ship show for me? but i'll cheat it a bit and say my three favourite dynamics are mew and erng (did you guess?), o and fahsai (they amuse me), and jack and erng (he's so soft with her)
Least favourite character: this pains me to type with my umg loving hands but fahsai. started off so strong but i've found her overall arc to be less than i had hoped for. i wanted a passionate freak girl!
Least favourite ship: mr kit x extrajudicial agency i have never in my life yelled at a teacher like this. when my mama yells at me like this it's because shE LoVeS mE
Reason why I watch it: because it has heart and hope and grief and healing and carefully considered and portrayed character study. it has practical effects and genre aware filming/editing styles and you can tell that the people involved in making it LOVE what they're doing and also don't take themselves too seriously. because it's silly and it knows that talking about aliens and monsters is just a backdoor way of dealing with the fringe parts of ourselves, that looking up is a way of looking within. because nanon wears glasses and speaks some english and milk is present and could throw me through a window or perhaps over her shoulder. lots of reasons
why did you start watching it:
