In the vein of interesting upcoming comebacks, have you been following the Hyuna and Dawn upcoming duet album? I’m personally loving the fashion they’re using so far and I’d be curious either what you think now or what your thoughts are once they actually drop the MV.

anon yes of course i have been following my favourite weirdo power couple!!! i'm electing to answer this after the mv dropped because i wanted to see what it was going to be like and brief synopsis of my thoughts is YES!!!!!!!!!!!!

a longer synopsis of my thoughts is i am obsessed with hyuna's candy coated shenanigans and honestly i don't even care what the music sounds like at this point. i also think dawn has great taste and his fashion sense is pretty similar to my own; money is probably one of my favourite mvs and it has one of my top kpop outfits of all time, and i think i probably own variations on most of the outfits in dawndididawn. together i think they're the perfect amount of weird and whoever is doing the styling with them really nailed the vibe i wanted to see from their first official debut as a couple. i'm living for the fact that they decided this was gonna be the weird hat era (tm) and if hyuna doesn't do a stage with that beautiful white fur monstrosity i will be so upset. i literally made a joke to chelsea like last week about how i had found the closest a kpop boy is going to get to wearing a fancy bra and then dawn shows up in front of my eyeballs wearing a fetish pentagram bralette and basketball shorts with a leopard print robe like some kind of kinky wnba player's boytoy. i don't even want to talk about his bedazzled nipples. its all so much it makes me so happy.

there's two things i really admire about hyuna and her approach to styling in her mvs (she has more solo work to draw from than dawn does) is that she can masterfully walk the line between childish and mature and make you aware that she's walking it. she can tip to the one side like with babe or more to the other like with good girl, but there's always a slight accusatory undercurrent to it; like yes i'm doing this for me, but i'm doing this because of you, remember? i debuted at 14, remember? and the childishness of the ping pong styling in particular is very confrontational; it's a pretty clear statement of you did this to us, so watch.

the other thing i really like is that they actually use their backup dancers. they don't get dressed in a way that forces them to be forgettable; they're always there and present wearing equally insane shit. like for most soloists i usually just remember the soloist in the stage picture, unless there's a specific formation that uses all the bodies, but with hyuna and dawn's work i almost always remember the entire stage picture because the backup dancers match the chaotic styling and the formations are interesting and unconventional. their performance director and choreographer have a really good grasp on making stage pictures that parallel the intensity of the visuals in the mvs, and that can be very hard to do in a stripped down way (like for music shows).

oh and the third thing that i like is how (at least for the mvs) hyuna actually wears things that have flattering leg lines. i know i know it's a censorship thing in sk but i swear to god that fucking hemline that cuts flat across the crotch like that is so unflattering i hate it so fucking much don't even get me started.
