[TOUCH]
scar meme
She's the one who put it there in the first place, and she touches it like she cares.
Seifer sucks in a breath, as sharp as her nails, as her hand grazes across the thin fabric of his shirt, over the angry blackened wounds beneath it. Five, scrawled across his back, looking more like they were burned into his flesh than torn.
"Don't--" he starts, but there's something there, something in his throat that swallows a protest he might have had, tightening around his throat like a noose.
Don't touch me, he wants to tell her, and can't, can't say anything at all.
Instead, he takes a step forward, defiant in the contact, away from her, away from her touch, and puts his back to the wall and the monster in his face.
"What do you want?" and he intends the words to come out a blunt demand, not like he's eager for her approval, seeking her command-- but he hadn't really been given a choice at all to come to her side, to be her knight.
Why the hell would he have one now?

Finding Cosplay Photoshoot Locations: Part 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
📸Want to do cosplay photoshoots but don't know how to find that perfect place to shoot? This tutorial covers how to brainstorm a location for your shoot, logistical and cost concerns with shoot locations, and how to actually find your dream location.
📸This tutorial can be applied to shoots of all types, including but not limited to self shoots, shoots with friends, and shoots with hired photographers. Self shooting or shooting with friends only requires a camera (a phone works!) and possibly a tripod.
Part 1: Location Types
Coming up with the general type of location you want requires some brainstorming about what you want from the shoot. Think about your specific goals and types of photos you want and how certain types of locations would work for your goal. Remember you can always do multiple shoots for the same costume with different concepts!
For example, if you want big, sweeping shots, you will need a location that allows for wider framing and still looks good, while if you are primarily after shots with closer framing, you can go with a location with only a small usable portion. If you are looking to primarily showcase the costume itself or your posing, a flatter and simpler background works better than a busy background, but if you want cinematic shots or shots where you are existing in the environment as the character, somewhere that can show off the location itself as well as how you exist in it would work better.
Types of Locations
There are three main types of locations for cosplay shoots in relation to the cosplay itself. Of course, you can combine these types and there is a lot of overlap, but thinking of these three location types will help you conceptualize your shoot.
The first type is locations that are similar to something in the series, or an exact location from the series. My cover image is an example of this, where I took photos at the location of the climactic battle of the manga. Most fictional locations don't exist in real life so exactly, however, so think of locations that look similar to where this character might be found. The example on this slide shows a cosplay at a nature preserve with grassy fields and oak trees, which is similar to the locations the character traverses several times throughout the game she is from. This category can also include locations with similar vibes, such as a studio made up to look like a fancy European castle for a character from a series about European royalty, or a shoji screen backdrop for a character who lives in a Japanese-style house.
The second location type is locations with symbolic meaning. These locations showcase something about the themes or character arcs present in the series, and this can be accomplished with anything from specific props and setpieces to the entire background. One shoot I'd love to do with this concept is of Lady Blackpearl staring into a mirror -- this would symbolize her dual personality nature -- or of Lady Oscar wrapped in thorns, with the rose thorns symbolizing her glorious but fragile life. I chose to represent this location type with Ultimecia, a sorceress who wants to compress time so she is the only one who can live in the combined past/present/future, set among ruins. The ruins aren't accurate to the game, but show her crumbling reign marked by the passage of time.
The third location type is locations chosen for pure aesthetics. Obviously all locations are chosen for aesthetics, but these are locations with no deeper meaning and may not represent anything from the series at all. These can range from a simple colored wall backdrop to a sweeping landscape that simply looks good with the colors of the costume. Some examples are the Yasuho Hirose ocean shoot on the slide, where it doesn't represent a particular scene or location in the series but simply looks good with the cut and colors of the costume and the sailor theming, or my Princess White Rose milk bath photoshoot, where again the character never takes a milk bath, but a bathtub full of milk and roses shows off the detail of her floral hat and showcases the opulent nature of a rose-themed princess.
Requirements of your Shoot
Once you have a general concept, think of what is required to fit that concept. This can be as general as specific backgrounds or types of backgrounds to as specific as particular items at the location or particular lighting setups. Some shoots might need specific props, such as furniture to sit or lounge on, and props that won't work in a public location, such as realistic weapons that may cause panic or worse. Also keep in mind any accessibility needs, whether it is an accessible location in general to accommodate a disability or a need that is caused by the costume itself. Check not just the specific area you want to shoot, but how to get there from the parking lot or transit stop. Finally, keep in mind that unsecured outdoor locations, such as a park or beach, are locations where you can't change things about the location and you may encounter other people. Discussion of how to be respectful of such locations is in part 5.
Stay tuned for the rest of the parts~!

fic: the nameless black (seifer/quistis, ffviii, alt-timeline)
Good luck, Seifer-- god, he wishes he'd listened to her the first time. Seifer, and a dreamless, sleepless night in Ultimecia's castle.
For Nixxi, who requested a snippet of an AU of Quistis inheriting Ultimecia's powers, instead of Edea.

Kontext stuff I feel like blabbing about
I've spent the past 5 days drawing and designing inner corridors and chambers of Ultimecia's castle, mainly stuff not seen in the game. I'm not done yet, but I have to say...
This is a lot more fun than I was expecting. :O
I tried to start getting some broad modeling done in Blender but it turns out this mouse is awful for it, so I'm waiting for a new mouse in the mail.
Also where the hell is the Master Room??? Because there's no way it's in the tower you enter at the end of the level. I'm worried it isn't actually anywhere in the castle, like the devs basically said "screw it." I don't like to do that, but I'm starting to worry that I'll have to ignore that its placement is impossible. Characters just walk into the roofed tower, enter a big roofless circular room, and no one questions it. :T

FF8 has such italian vibes i'm serious like in lot of the settings and artistic choices also in dollet there was literally italian text on some buildings which may have influenced my read of the game but seriously there's something there. And the latin stuff in ultimecia's castle. And just some of the character names. The point is that it's funny

Where I've briefly looked at the servants in Ultimecia's castle, some of their scans say they were created by Ulti from something. Like Krysta was born of a jewel in the castle and Trauma was given life from weapon.
But we actually SEE Ultimecia give life to other things in the game, like the Iguion statues in Deling City and Griever during the final battle.
With these life giving powers she has, it's limited to needing something present for her to give life to it. Even if that something is a subconscious thought.

Opera Omnia Burst Themes 1/?
With Opera Omnia shutting down, I decided to make a few posts about one of my favorite parts of the game: The Burst Weapons. Not because they were a powerful, much sought after weapon tier that gave big numbers with massive benefits, but because I have a love for Final Fantasy music, and what BTs I wanted was strongly dependent on what song would play when used.
These posts are meant to be more for the sake of archiving what there had been more than anything else, but at the very least I am going to list a large number of great FF songs.
The first listing will be the songs that we had gotten during the game's lifetime.

I‘ve been fighting my way trough all of Ultimecia‘s castle today. I think that took me what, three hours? Of searching and fighting and retrying.
And now I‘ve sat almost an hour and a half in the Ultimecia fight
And I died right when she bagan monologuing, which I heard is when the fight is almost over
… I‘m so tired and frustrated right now, I think I will watch the end in a playthrough online and finish the game myself another day (and I mean like, way in the future-another-day)
I just can‘t do this again right now XD
And I probably need more spells. Although I‘m not sure if that‘s going to help when she can just delete them - that‘s what broke my neck in the end, the fact that she deleted the junctioned spells and I was left defensless against that apocalypse spell.
I really wonder who thought it‘s a good game mechanic, letting the boss with four phases delete your equipment LOL

For the series askbox game, I choose Final Fantasy.
Do you mean Final Fantasy 1 or all Final Fantasy games? I'm gonna assume you mean the series as a whole, because I never really could get into the original FF. So!
Favorite Male: Prompto Argentum. He's so cuuuuute! (except for his horrible soul patch on his older model)
Favorite Female: Fran. I love the friendship dynamic between her and Balthier.
Favorite Pairing: Seifer Almasy/Squall Leonhart
Least Favorite Character: Zell. I hate his face tattoo. Or possibly Ultimecia just for the wasted potential of her backstory that was neve explored at all and how much bullshit her entire castle and boss fight is.
who’s most like me: Either Squall or Noctis.
most attractive: This is super fucking hard, but probably Noctis? Yeah I'll go with Noctis.
three more characters that I like: Ace (Type-0), Sephiroth (FF7), Cloud, (FF7)

I’ve been listening to the close of the Retrograde Amnesia podcast on Final Fantasy VIII, and every time I play that game, and every time I get someone else’s perspective on it, I see new things on it and this time I’m thinking about:
1) The ending flashing from Laguna’s Proposal to Raine to Laguna on the hill at Raine’s grave emphasizing the time compression thing. Everything that has happened or will happening is still happening. The future is connected to the past is connected to the present. Time is a flat circle etc etc etc. (and that Laguna’s story is told non-linearly, in pieces, with some key details left to the imagination also emphasizing all that). Everything that has ever happened is still happening.
2) With this game being inscrutable or open to interpretation or however you want to see it regarding some key aspects of its plot. Do you think. With all the dead SeeDs in front of Ultimecia’s castle. Is that an artifact of time compression or some null future timeline or are the rest of Our Heroes’ lives and/or the lives of their future descendants going to be also spent fighting sorceresses? What are the rest of Our Heroes lives going to look like and did they actually save anything?

Aaaaa I'm sorry @quiettekiyet I totally forgot this! There's been a surge in scammers, so asks have been closed for a while.
But yeah, my headcanons have updated a bit since they last came up.
Let's see...
The old "Ultimecia is Rinoa" theory was thrown a bone in recent years. Previously, Kitase had seemingly outright stated that it was false. But more recently, Kitase explained that there was simply no mention of it verbally or in any of the game development material. In other words, no one said "no" to that idea when making the game... but only because it never came up in the first place. I thought that was a neat development (and even shared the video) because, while still I don't subscribe to the theory, I think it's really fun and love the fan stuff it spawns. So seeing it become "not impossible" was cool. (But then some people decided to ignore the entire interview and mindlessly reblog it saying "canon now!" so I took the post down.)
Some people connect Ultimecia to Halicarnassus, a recurring character/boss elsewhere in the series. She has magic powers, a helmet with horned protrusions (then again who doesn't), and resides in a castle that sits between dimensions. I even saw a video suggesting that she could be an unmentioned sorceress in the VIII universe, and is even the original owner of the castle Ultimecia resides in! Obviously there's no documentation to back up such a claim, but it's still a really cool idea so I headcanon it sometimes.
One friend likes to write the main cast with varying accents, most of which I lost track of, except for Selphie. Basically she has a Slavic accent, and those happen to be my favorites, so that's been a soft headcanon for like two years.
Not really a headcanon, but I've been musing about the idea that Adel had a crush on Odine, which is why he was allowed to build so much insane nonsense unimpeded. Just a tiny little guy screaming his head off at the engineers and technicians while Adel looks on with a sigh.
