A while ago I got inspired by this awesome cover/duet/mashup of Lagtrain, and thus these three protagonists of an indie RPG about exploring surreal dream-like locales that will never exist were born during some scribbling around.

I like to think the three of them, Kim (any pronouns are fine, mostly prefers they/them, any terminology), the regular-ass emo human, B-10 (he/him, object-like, masculine and gender-neutral terminology) the weird astronaut racer robot thing, and Shadow (this beast has abandoned gender - do whatever) the... Shadow... Would embody my three main outlooks on life. If the indie RPG starring them did exist, they'd each provide their own unique perspectives on the weird sights.

This is also a convenient way for me to enforce three of my favourite character archetypes - calm, quiet, subtly mischievous but ultimately kind sillies + sweet gentle giant-type robots + chaotic gremlin shape-shifters.

What do you dislike about the house you live in?   neighbor on one side. I wish i had my own bathroom attached to my bedroom. maybe more land? 

Do you prefer iced tea or hot tea?   hot. 

Is there a gas station near your house? When was the last time you went?   there are 6 that are all equally distanced to my house within a mile. I haven’t gone to any of them in ... goodness well over a month

How do you feel right now? What do you think has contributed to that?   Im ok. im sad. miss having a person.

Do you watch a movie at least once a week?   typically i rewatch my favorites over and over but right now I can’t. 

Have you ever been clubbing? Did you have fun?  I have been. Eh, not my vibe. I don’t like the clothing on me.. I don’t dig having sweaty people all over me. blegh. What were you doing in the year 2013?   uhhhhhh working. can’t quite pinpoint anything else.

What's the weather been like lately?   honestly, i dunno. Ive been locked inside.

Do you check the weather forecast regularly?   obsessively. I keep hoping it’ll get colder or thunderstorm more.

Do you live in a city of at least one million people?   Noo.

Do you own any clothes in your favourite colour?   I do. i’m wearing a shirt now that is that color. 

Would you say faucet or tap?   Faucet.

Do you watch any sports?   i used to LOVE watching football. I actually dont mind watching pretty much any sport (except boxing or hockey blegh) but i don’t much watch them anymore.

Have you ever eaten carob?   I don’t even know what that is.

Are there any plants around your house, inside or outside?   yes. inside and out.

Which bugs do you truly hate the most?   spiders.

What's your favourite kind of puzzle?   oooooo man. I love so many kinds.

If you were going on a daytime date tomorrow, where would you go?   i can’t. but lets say hypothetically. goin to lunch, the gazebo in town, anything downtown.

Where are you right at this moment?   I’m in bed. like always.

Describe the room or place you're in.   It’s quite small. 8x8. it currently has like 8 oxygen tanks, 5 fans, lots of pillows and blankets, my suitcases.

Is your nose blocked right now?   No, but I lost my sense of smell.

Do you live on a main road?   I do but its like... a main road thats in a somewhat isolated area so one whole side of the street is a forest preserve. 

Have you ever volunteered?   oh definitely. 

What colours are you wearing today?   blue, black, gray, uhhhhhhhh blue again.

How old were you when you graduated high school?   18.

Describe your favourite pair of socks.   I like these ones i got that are technically diabetic socks. they have no tight seams so they’re uuuuuber stretchy. so comfy to sleep in.

If you could dye your hair any colour for one month, what would you do?   I’d go dark dark.

Art or science?   Science, but psychology specifically < same! 

Do you own a pair of sunglasses? How often do you wear them?   i have many pairs but I never wear them.

What's your go-to order at McDonald's?   theres basically nothing I can have there anymore.

Do you know anyone who was born in the Caribbean?   I had a professor that was from there

What brand is your fridge?  what about your oven? i think kenmore. our oven is totally dead now and with my mom out of work due to me... idk if we’ll get a replacement any time soon.

Speaking of fridges, what drinks do you have in there right now?   i haven’t got a clue I havent been allowed near the fridge in a month.

Are there any special rules about selling alcohol & tobacco in your country? >> It varies from state to state, except for the age limits. <<< Do you live in the northern or southern hemisphere?   Northern.

What's your dream car?   uhh an suv of some sort.

Do you have a best friend? How long have you known them?   im transitioning best friends.

How often do you take selfies?   since my graduation week, i have probably taken a handful of selfies. I just don’t care to anymore.

Are you hungry at the moment? What are you craving?   nope. still thirsty.

What do you think your life will look like in 3 years from now?   I don’t know, it scares me to think about. <<<same.

i tried to watch the princess diaries as an adult a month ago and i was just appalled. i am SO so so relieved i missed that, and a number of other similar movies, as a little girl. it's insane to me how much stuff aimed at girls involves vigorously mocking girls' appearances until they conform or highlighting that the heroine is good in part because of her perfect appearance. then people are like if you don't like the thing you hate women. uhhhhhhhh

man oh man I’m glad you missed it too, because do I have Unpopular Opinions on it. The 90s-early 2000′s trope of the “glasses and ponytail = ugly and Must Be Changed To Be Worthy Of Love” (which was best lampooned in Not Another Teen Movie, which is very stupid and very funny and surprisingly apt in its criticisms of the more damaging aspects of the genre, also Baby Chris Evans) is bad enough on its own but Princess Diaries strikes me as particularly heinous for a few reasons, namely the younger audience at which it’s aimed and the particular content of The Makeover in the context of the plot. 

(And disclaimer, I love Julie Andrews as much as the next gal, and Anne Hathaway’s pretty cool and all that.) 

And yes, maybe I’m bitter and personally biased because growing up teased for my very Semitic curls + told how much prettier I’d look with straight hair (and also having Princess Diaries comparisons explicitly made, positively, the times I did change things up), but there’s something that just crosses the damn line about how Mia is only seen as worthy of being a princess + gets her Cinderella moment (in that she makes Big Entrances in pretty outfits and dances + hobnobs with the Elite, nigh unrecognizable to the overlooked girl she was before, I wouldn’t dare insult Cindy’s character by comparing them otherwise)  when she has her eyebrows plucked and her hair straightened and her glasses taken off. Anne Hathaway is whitebread and gentile as they come, but there’s something distinctly...uncomfortable about associating her “overcoming her awkwardness” (which is largely in her personality!) and “becoming a true princess” with getting rid of features like thick eyebrows and less-than-eurocentric straight hair....yeah. This isn’t like Cinderella where the dress is (in the Disney versions, at least) a connection to her mother and then a symbol of her equality/deserving nice things as much as any other girl in the kingdom. This is a girl’s natural features being equated with lacking social graces or worthiness to be a princess.

And inevitably, this means you tell young girls in your audience who have said features, who don’t fit the standards you’re setting, sorry, you aren’t worthy. Couldn’t they have just had Mia have to learn courtly mannerisms and diplomacy from Julie Andrews because she’s an awkward American teen or something? Make it more of a mildly-less-problematic My Fair Lady horse race scene type dynamic (or hell, Shrek-meeting-Fiona’s parents) where her quirky adolescent American attitudes and mannerisms causes funny clashes with the propriety of state dinners and such? There’s no damn reason to have this except to implicitly send violent messages about a very particular set of beauty standards. 

and the funniest is like when people are like disliking media aimed towards women is inherently misogynistic...no???? yet again people conflate liking the thing with it automatically being feminist and progressive and??? Just because a thing is Marketed Towards Girls doesn’t shield it from criticism, although I get the knee-jerk defensiveness because of the way femininity is derided.

There is literally nothing feminist about the content of The Princess Diaries??? Not once does Mia learn anything about politics or leadership, or shit, I don’t know, Genovian economics, and to be fair the film is like, clearly written on a level for five to eight year olds, so it’s Not About That, but even so the messages are genuinely damaging for girls in that impressionable age group! The frankly aggressive mocking of her features and overhaul of them is equated with her character growth! 

This is probably pretty disorganized, but yeah. Blegh.
