The Picrew Tag List

it’s kind of hard to search things on picrew without knowing japanese, which makes it kind of hard to find a particular kind of maker without masterlists or happening across it on the front page - and masterlists get outdated, and waiting for it to appear on trending is just inefficient. so, i’m compiling a list of search terms that you can use to find specific kinds of makers on picrew. please note that this might not find every single picrew under that type, since there are also a lot of korean- and english-language picrews that are tagged as such, so there might be some that don’t come up. also, not all categories have all that much in them, but i did try to include the tag for each search term or category that pulled up the most results, or had the most relevant results, which usually means using very colloquial or common internet slang terms.

i included both the kanji spellings and the kana (phonetic) spellings for most of these, since sometimes they pull up different results, except in cases where one didn’t pull up anything relevant. the kanji is shown first, the kana is second!

if you have a tag you’d like to see me put on here please feel free to let me know! i tried to include ones i thought would be the most commonly searched - but please keep in mind some terms just might not pull up much at all.

カプル - couple

二人／ふたり - two people

恋愛 ／ れんあい - love/falling in love (for some reason you get better options using the kana than the kanji? though you still dont get many couple makers or anything like that, more just romance-themed makers)

ファンタジー - fantasy

ホラー - horror

ダーク - dark (aesthetically similar to horror, but gets a few different results with sort of gloomy aesthetics)

ヒーロー - hero, superhero (not many results so far, but included for archival purposes just in case)

カートゥーン - cartoon (again not many results so far, but included for archival purposes just in case. this can find a few cartoonish, non-anime styled makers)

女 ／ おんな - female

女の子 ／ おんなのこ - girl (you can find a few picrews for younger female characters and teens with this)

少女 - girl (alternate, more colloquial term - theres a few more unique results for this one)

叔母 - aunt, older woman (to date i’ve only found one picrew that’s specifically for making old women, but that might change, who knows)

男 ／ おとこ - male

男の子 ／ おとこのこ - boy (you can find a few picrews for younger male characters and teens with this)

少年 - boy (alternate, more colloquial term - there’s a few more unique results for this one)

叔父 ／ おじさん   - uncle, old man (you can find picrews for making older men with this)

食べ物 ／ たべもの - food (again, more results by searching the kana option, but kanji still gets relevant results)
