A drabble about teenage Raeda at grom?
A Grom Night to Remember
Eda stood by the gym's entrance, watching some of her fellow students dance with their dates while others had their seats saved for the big fight. And even though Eda was one of the lucky many who didn't get picked to fight Grom itself, she still had butterflies in her stomach as she waited for her date. Not as much as Lily, though. Who, unfortunately for her, was the poor one chosen for the fight.
"What if I fail?" Lily asked as she paced in front of Eda, "I mean, if I lose, then all of the Isles will succumb to their greatest fears! And how will that look to the Emperor's Coven?! Not good, I'll tell you that much!"
"You think Raine will hate my suit?"
"Huh?" Lily looked at her sister, who was brushing invisible wrinkles out of her wine-red suit with a black dress shirt underneath.
"I mean, I thought about wearing a dress, but all the store had was that poofy crap that I would sooner lose a limb than wear," Eda went on, "So, I got the suit instead, thinking it looked nicer. What do you think?"
"...Let me get straight," Lily gave Eda a flat look, "I am currently losing my mind over whether or not I'll defeat Grom while you are more worried about how great you look for your date?"
"Uh, have you seen Raine?"
"I have. Every day."
"So, you should know why I'm so nervous! They always look great! And, I mean, sure, I'm a catch too. But will they think that?!"
"Eda, as I've said hundreds of times before this, Raine Whispers is head over heels for you. Why else would you think they said yes when you asked them to Grom?!"
"Out of pity?"
"Out of mutual affection towards you!" Lily emphasized, "Now, stop worrying about how nice you look and be a good sister for a change and help me! Give me some motivation!"
"...So, what you're saying is that I do look good?"
"If you ask me," A voice that made Eda's heart palpitate chimed in, "I'd say you look great."
Looking over her shoulder, Eda saw Raine standing behind her, wearing one of those poofy dresses Eda refused profusely to wear. But seeing that angelic blue-colored dress that fit Raine's body perfectly made Eda think maybe she was too harsh on her judgment.
"How do I look?" Raine asked, a light red forming on their cheeks.
"Hot," Eda accidentally let slip out.
"What?" Raine's cheeks turned redder. As did Eda's.
"NOT!" she tried to correct, "As in not bad! Uh, you look...not bad."
"Smooth," Lily snarked, "Anyway, I'll go ahead and continue my panic attack elsewhere. Maybe a wall can give me more of a pep talk than you can."
"Uh-huh, sounds great, Lily," Eda nodded, not tearing her eyes from Raine.
"Whipped," Lily muttered under her breath as she walked away from the pair.
"You, uh, you do look great, by the way," Eda stuttered.
"Thanks. Uh, you too."
"...Raine, can I ask you a question?"
"Lay it on me."
"Why...why did you say yes?" Eda asked, finally looking away from Raine.
"Because you asked?" Raine responded, not understanding the question.
"Yeah, but, um, you could have said no."
"But I didn't want to," Raine stepped closer to Eda, cupping her cheek and turning her face towards them. "I wanted to go to Grom with you."
"Why?"
"Because I like you, you doof."
And the way Raine said that, as if it was the simplest thing in the world, made the butterflies flutter even more in Eda's stomach.
"O-oh..."
"Yup," Raine grinned, looping an arm around Eda. "I think there's time for one dance before Lilith's fight starts. You want to join me?"
Eda smiled.
"Gladly," she said as the two of them walked into the gym, arm, and arm.
