i feel kinda bad because i know for a fact that my little brother was disappointed in his presents and was playing it off and i know it'll get worse tomorrow when the family gets together tomorrow and he'll find out what our sisters kids have got (my sister always makes really big expensive presents for her kids on christmas) :(
i just feel kinda bad for him and it's been nagging me all day but idk how to remedy this. i should've thought about his present way earlier so i couldve gotten something actually nice.
i know some people might say that he should be thankful regardless but.. 1. im sure he was! 2. it feels really bitter when all your peers got way better, bigger presents and you have to act like you're not jealous so you don't seem ungrateful.
i don't know. maybe i'll slip him some money after all.
#seele.txt#he's been really prissy to me lately so i wasn't really all that eager to think about a present for him tbh#but i don't like knowing he feels sad :(#it's not just on me though my mom couldve done more too...#ugh i wish i just had more money. that's really the main issue. rip#we celebrate on the 24th around here btw

Happy belate Blorbo Blursday.
What was the inspiration for one of your characters?
Can you give me some insight into what makes a character tick?
Does one of the main characters hold a special place in your heart? If so, why?
What's the easiest part of writing your main character?
Hello, and thank you so much for the ask!! These are amazing questions, and I can't wait to answer them!! :D
What was the inspiration for one of your characters?
Ashlin from Call of Shadows was inspired by my very strong love of thief characters. They're a mash-up of all sorts of thief tropes and stories, and I really just wanted a stubborn, hot-headed thief character. I had just read a book which featured an MC who had a background as a thief, and also I am currently reading a book whose MC was a thief to survive as a child. That's the background I wanted for Ash. She became a thief out of necessity, but now that she can do it for money rather than subsistence food, she can truly enjoy it.
The rest are going under the cut since I got really chatty, lol.
What makes a character tick?
I'm going to talk about Fallon from ATQH. She was raised to be the Queen. She never really had another option. At one point she's asked if she always wanted to be Queen, or if she ever had another goal. She can't remember. She was an only child, and she knew that she was the only option for Heir. She adored her mother growing up and wanted to make her proud, to be the best Queen she could be. When her mother was killed, that definitely multiplied that feeling. She now not only wanted to make her mother proud, but she couldn't fail her. She couldn't fail her mother, couldn't fail her people, etc. As such, she pushes herself very hard, and refuses to accept help from anyone. She's always been stubborn, but the betrayal of her father (and later Lavinia) gave her trust issues that make her feel as if she can't rely on anyone. Relying on someone else is weakness, failure, and that's not okay. Or so she thinks. She needs to learn that some things can not be endured alone. Not if you wish to survive them.
Does one of your main characters hold a special place in your heart? Why?
Yes. Very much, yes. And that is going to have to be Kristopher. Yes, Fallon was the reason ATQH ever happened, yes she was the real main character, my first real, serious OC. But Kris snuck up on me. He wasn't supposed to be as important as he turned out being. But his character came up to me, grabbed me by the collar and said "listen here: I need more story time", and I said "hell yes". He's such a compelling character to me. The shit he's been through in his past, the way he sees himself as a worthless piece of shit, a terrible person. But in reality he's very, very kind. He has a soft heart, and though he's learned to hide it, he cares a lot. Maybe too much. The contrast of his awful family and their abuse of their kingdom, versus his desire to fix things, without knowing where to start. No one will listen to him, especially not if he's being an arrogant ass. But that's his defense mechanism, so can you really blame him? He gets told that this is his last chance, but to him, it's his first. A chance to be away from the family and kingdom that's killing him slowly, to be seen as his own person. To go somewhere where no one knows him name. Ugh, Kristopher rips my heart to shreds and makes it beat like no other character. I'm in love with him, probably more than I should be, lmao.
What's the easiest part of writing your main characters?
I'm going to talk about Kristopher and Fallon from ATQH here, since I'm not super familiar with the MCs for CoS yet. For me, the easiest part is understanding their relationship. They both are very emotional people, even if they try and suppress it. They both care a lot, about people in general, about their kingdoms, about each other. And because they're so similar, but also opposite in some key ways, they have very natural chemistry, at least I think so. And their relationship is so strongly built on trust. It almost writes itself.

What are your favorite and least stories from each Season and why?
Oh man, this is a really thought-provoking question! I’ll try to come up with good answers (even though sometimes the seasons blur together a little bit):
I’ll give some basic thoughts on each season and what worked/didn’t work for me.
Season 1
While I appreciate that they made the effort to have Elizabeth stick out (vs. blending in with all the Poors), she was downright unbearable at times in the early seasons. Her wanting to help and coming up with ideas is pretty decent in terms of story structure and even characterization/character motivation, but holy cow was it intrusive and nosy/patronizing of her sometimes! I think the point might have been to give Elizabeth flaws, which is great, but people just seemed to accept it, and her, too quickly, at least for my liking. A shame because I felt like her struggling to fit in would 1) be good for her character/force her to understand that to be accepted here she has to concede to giving up her former lifestyle, and 2) be a great, GREAT way for her and Abigail to bond and become friends, since this is something Abigail also struggled with!
So basically, the ‘story’ of Elizabeth coming to fit in in Coal Valley? Vaguely rubbish.
So much DID work, though, and could have been expanded upon for even better storytelling!!! This is especially true of the widows/related stories.
Loss of faith/faltering faith
Loss of personal identity
Moving on/past grief
Processing guilt
Protecting the memory of a deceased loved one
We also had some great smaller personal stories.
Genius child has to work in the mine because there’s no one else ot take care of his family
Young man can’t read and has to work in the mine (and even after he does start learning how to read, probably doesn’t get to leave). Elizabeth still taking the time to try and help him still means something!
Season 2
I will never forgive the series for its convoluted attempt at a love triangle, here. Charles wasn’t unlikable, but he was OBVIOUSLY interested in Elizabeth romantically, and I don’t feel she’d be so stupid as to be blind to that, old chum or not.
Basically, it was one of the worst plots to ever exist on the show, because it just wasn’t believable in any capacity and felt like drama that existed to be a roadblock more than anything.
Also, not to whine, but Bill’s whole ‘counterfeit money’ plotline wasn’t very well-written.
The plot itself makes sense, but the way it bounced around seems to have just confused enough people that no one even remembers this was a thing.
That said, I think it was a good plot for the character... It was just not executed as well as it needed to have been to make a difference/really shine.
There are a lot of small things from S2 that were pretty nice, though.
Abigail’s fight to help Clara was meaningful, but I’m not sure how I feel about the addition of Clara from a writing standpoint. I feel like Abigail should have felt something was off about Peter’s trips from the start... The issue is that Hamilton is VERY far away and it’s VERY doubtful Peter would have ever gone there. Union City makes more sense if we’re talking about picking up shipments.
Tom and Julie were entertaining if nothing else.
I couldn’t tell you a single thing that happened in Hope Valley in S2, but I’m sure there were Events.
Season 3
Honestly I don’t think S3 had anything horrible in it. It just wasn’t very inspiring at times? It was like they had all these really good ideas but didn’t want to fully commit to any of them.
Henry Gowen was a star.
Frank was excellent in this season.
The biggest issue I have with this plot is simply that they didn’t take it all the way. Either he’s a dangerous man to allow to stay in town or he’s not. Saying he is doesn’t make it so. A rock through a window? Okay, sure...that’s threatening I guess. But it didn’t feel like enough to turn the whole town.
And again, having him barely doing anything even though he’d definitely be worried for Abigail and Cody’s safety is just inane.
Still, overall the whole thing was pretty good/well-done. Especially that unexpected turn at the end where Henry helped turn the tide. (I still wish that had gone somewhere and wonder even now if they had an idea they wanted to use and didn’t get the chance to.)
Abigail adopting children was nice. I wish Becky hadn’t been a part of it at all though. Like the IDEA is nice, but I can’t imagine she’d believe in it all as fast/readily as she does? This plotline just seemed great for Cody and meaningless to Becky, IMO.
But hey, the thing with Cody is meaningful enough. My issue is just that he’s like, 8 or 9 and remembers his parents very clearly, so I don’t think he’d be that willing to replace them. I guess it could just be his personality, but it might make more sense for him to be like 5-6 years old instead (less attached with fuzzier memories by this point if they’ve been on the run awhile).
Despite my qualms I think this was a pretty good story for Abigail. Just wish they hadn’t dropped her role as a mom as quickly as it felt they did.
Hattie was a good character and I enjoyed her introduction story. It was sad, but it felt good/satisfying.
Bill buying Henry’s share in the café was a great little thing. Maybe too convenient and itching for a story of its own (instead of it just happening), but overall a good idea.
Jack’s mom coming to town was entertaining. She had some really good lines. Lard in coffee. I mean...this was gold.
Season 4
The peddler was a cute addition but I didn’t much care for the overt magical element.
If it felt a little more real/grounded/down to earth I think I might have been more intrigued.
Frank getting his original Bible back was a GREAT story but when they tried tying it into his vaguely stalker-like behavior? It just ruined the entire thing.
For what it’s worth, Frank’s character goes downhill pretty sharply in this season.
There were a lot of cute kid storylines in this one. But they weren’t all...great...
Robert telling the lie about the bear? Nice.
The kid with the knee brace? Ugh.
The storyline itself wasn’t bad!
But after Becky miraculously recovered the previous season it just felt like a slap in the face. I live with chronic pain and it’s just one of those things where I’d like a little representation somewhere.
I still think Becky should have stayed wheelchairbound.
I can’t get over how insulting it was that she just MIND OVER MATTER FIXED HERSELF. The writer who put that in there should be slapped, and the writer who wrote the saME GODFORSAKEN STORY AGAIN with this child should also be slapped.
I really feel that if they were gonna let Becky recover like that, this kid should be living with a permanent disability and this episode could deal with kids helping him play/doing activities he could participate and enjoy.
Maybe it’s too on-the-nose but the hardest part about a chronic illness/disability of any kind is the part where you lose things you loved to do that you considered a part of your identity. That’s an awfully deep storyline for WCtH, but they should have gone for it here.
Phillip was in between.
Phillip and his father were great, but Elizabeth was just SO incredibly awful. This is where she and Abigail started always being right about everything and I felt her involvement was unbearable.
They should have just let Faith take over Elizabeth’s role in that plot and it would have been way better. They could have had the eyesight issue earlier and done something great with it.
Frank and Abigail’s relationship at the beginning of this season was pretty interesting. Even though the whole “danger” thing was a little goofy, it was nice to see them communicating and adjusting.
It felt like a natural issue people would actually have. And it wasn’t smoothly worked out, which is fine.
Also, Rosemary’s interference was hilarious.
RIP to the following:
Frank’s character after his earlier scene, because he doesn’t get anything else that’s actually in character.
Good writing because Carson is now the town hero he’s gonna save Cody from appendicitis because other doctors are just completely stupid!
Also Carson is a surgeon so TAKE THAT, regular doctors!
Doug. You were a real bro, my guy.
I DID like Doug’s role in the story, though. His death made some sense, but it was ill-timed. (How convenient that we only even hear of him moments before his death lol.)
AJ Foster is a highlight of S4 for me. I love her, and for the most part I love her introduction.
She’s such a pain in the neck, but she also talks a lot of sense.
The writing isn’t great for her, or for Bill in these scenes, but at least there was An Attempt™.
I appreciate that they introduced the idea of her much earlier in the season and built up to her actual appearance, which I couldn’t have guessed would be relevant early on.
Considering how the officers at my company hate our IRS auditor, I find the fact that AJ has enemies beyond believable.
Railroad shenanigans were pretty entertaining in this season, too.
Season 5
The last episode at least tried to be kind to the characters, so I appreciate it.
Elizabeth’s conversation with her father before her wedding was a highlight of the entire season.
AJ’s return plot was abysmal.
I’d be terribly embarrassed to have been the one to write this, especially considering how completely whack it feels next to the other plots.
I’ve ranted about this so many times I should have run out of steam but BOY is it cringey. This is the height of Bill-is-a-grumpy-old-man as a Thing in this series and this is probably when it is its worst.
The rattlesnake plotline was contrived as heck, but the only thing to make it worse was how weird everyone acted.
Rhonda was a good character and the plotline, if it wasn’t so rushed, would have actually been really great. I still liked it overall, though.
Frank’s send-off was dumb, but at least he got one on-screen.
I still can’t believe they killed their main romantic male lead off-screen.
What the heck...
Abigail was really, really annoying in this season, and so was Elizabeth. Unbearable.
Also, I still hate the pregnancy oooops~~ ♥♥ plot at the end of the grieving episode. Really? COME ON. I know they wanted to give the fans hope but it was jarring.
Season 6
I still HATE the nativity == baby Jack’s birth parallels.
Why did they feel the need to do that. Why couldn’t we have just gotten pregnant Elizabeth shenanigans?
They put Jack’s DEATH ON THE TOMBSTONE like how is she popping out a baby less than two months later when she didn’t even know she wa---?F?DJSAFLJDSAFHLDSAL?
Abigail?
DELETED.
Thank goodness.
Bill?
Assassinated. Or at least, his character was.
This is bad. :(
On the plus side he gets promoted to the position of JUDGE...and barely does anything worthwhile with it...yet.
GODFATHER BILL. The best thing in this season.
Fiona?
A goddess. I love her.
Lucas?
Slimy.
But handsome.
The 4th Property Brother. He even tries his hand at renovating.
Nathan?
Honest and good.
Pretty cute.
Works together with Bill once in one of Bill’s only good scenes.
The oil plotline is actually pretty good/fun. Jesse and Clara get more scenes finally.
Elizabeth isn’t the focus of everything.
Lee and Rosemary got like, no mention in any of these posts but mostly because it felt like they were never really doing anything before, but I did feel like they were given a little more meaningful lines/places in this season.
--
How’s this for an attempt? :P I’m probably missing A LOT but I can’t recall everything too easily!

Notes on Season 15- Part 1 (contains spoilers, are mostly complaints about Torres (and Quinn in Pandora’s Box (Part 1)), and are my personal opinions, don’t @ me)
Since Season 15 started rerunning in Australia on 19 November, I’ve decided to write down things I forgot or would like to emphasise upon:
House Divided
I’m so glad Quinn’s gone, good riddance
Reeves saying NCIS wasn’t allowed to look for Gibbs and McGee, then the dispatch guy looking around at their efforts to do just that was great
Why does Torres have to be so disrespectful, even in court- poor Vance having to witness it
Were Bishop and Jimmy being serious about the phone booth?
Poor Reeves- never lend anything to Torres
I love it when Vance gets angry on the team’s behalf, it’s awesome
Don’t be such a dick, Torres
Jezebel Poppins sort of looks like Britney Spears- sidenote, I wonder how the show comes up with character names
Gibbs’ carving was amazing
Bishop and Reeves look so good together, ugh
St. Nicholas is the patron saint of children- in relation to Torres, that explains a lot
Fuck off with your insulting Reeves, Torres- like you haven’t made a mistake before (and much bigger than letting not-so-relevant information slip)
The committee backing Vance up was awesome
‘hobbies?’ ‘not dying’ amazing
The end scenes were so sweet
Every time Delilah said ‘husband’ and McGee said ‘wife’, I went ‘aww’ inside
McGee had such great lines this episode
WHY COULDN’T REEVES HAVE BEEN THE THIRD AGENT SO TORRES AND QUINN WOULD HAVE NEVER EXISTED AND CBS WOULD’VE SAVED HEAPS OF MONEY HIRING ONE MAIN CHARACTER THAT AUDIENCES ALREADY KNEW AND LOVED INSTEAD OF TWO NEW ANNOYING ONES
Twofer
Dr. Grace! I love her so much, and her reaction to Gibbs catching her off-guard was awesome
When does Torres not have doubts about Bishop and her competency for just about anything
I almost forgot about Ducky’s ringtone
Ugh, I hate Torres’ macho persona
I don’t get the whole falling-in-love-with-someone-your-S.O.-was-close-to (or falling in love with anyone after your S.O. died, for that matter)
When did Abby make the switch from coffin to casket (or is it a backup or something)? I forgot if it’s been mentioned previously
I was really worried watching the Jimmy-and-the-liver bit for the first time
For some reason, Gibbs and McGee’s basement conversation reminded me of McGee and Tony’s in 3x10
Aww, Ducky getting invited to be honoured as an alumnus was so sweet
McGee’s shrink appointment with Dr. Grace was a really great scene
Dr. Grace and Gibbs have a such great friendship, and this episode was no exception
Exit Strategy
McGee talking about all the old cases, so nostalgic
I love McGee and Jimmy’s friendship
SPORTELLI! I kind of missed him, not going to lie (I wish his story didn’t end the way it did)
Torres is such an asshole to and about everyone, ugh
Torres’ flower drawing looked more like a hubcap
Aww, Ducky teaching the lecture was so cute
Jimmy standing up for himself, go Autopsy Gremlin
Ducky’s fanclub is way too over-eager
Seriously, Torres? You’re a federal agent, and you think saying you’d steal bearer bonds out loud is a good idea?
Ducky and Jimmy have such a sweet relationship
The plot of this episode sucked, I don’t get why they had to make Sportelli dirty
Skeleton Crew
Why is Toccata and Fugue the music piece of choice for every spooky TV show scene ever (it’s great, though, don’t get me wrong)
SLOANE! Her entrance is one of the most iconic (and obvious, I caught the ID flash the first time I watched it) ever, plus she looked just so beautiful
McGee talking about Delilah was so cute
Torres is so pigheaded and obnoxious
Abby’s zombie apocalypse kits were such a sweet idea
Abby and Jimmy have such a cute friendship (and the Hamilton bit was hilarious)
Sloane and Vance are such a great brotp from the very first scene
SHUT. UP. TORRES.
I hate it whenever Torres says something along the lines of ‘I’m not trying to be ________, but...’- he uses it as an excuse for his shitty behaviour, and it’s never addressed
‘I don’t believe in absolutes’ well, we know that Sloane’s not a Sith, then (I know the Sith deal in absolutes, but to deal in something, you most likely have to believe in it first)
$300, 000 really isn’t a lot, especially split between two people
The last two Bishop-and-Buckner scenes were sweet, but didn’t make up for his previous behaviour towards her
Akin to 17x06, this episode glossed over the bullying Bishop endured, and how it’s a serious issue
Fake It ‘Til You Make It
The first time I saw this, I instantly knew it was Tony’s doing- how could anyone not
Reeves is so caring and kind, it sucks how Melissa played him
Abby and Reeves (Rabby? Clabby?) were such a great brotp while it lasted
FUCK. OFF. TORRES.
Why is Torres such an asshole? He’s rude and insensitive to everyone, even recovering addicts- how have the writers not been called out for their writing of him yet
I love Sloane so much-she’s awesome
Those tap-lights are horribly hipster and ugly
The end scene in the bullpen was hilarious, and the end scene with Reeves was so emotional and heartbreaking
Rishop’s friendship (not their more-than-friendship, they’re two separate things) was so prevalent in this episode, and it was great to see
This episode had such a powerful message, and was a great instance in the Rule 10 debate
Trapped
Aww, Jimmy’s so sweet
Torres is so ungrateful and stingy
Torres using work time for personal stuff, not surprising
Reeves’ chess pun was absolutely the best
For some reason, I really love it when Reeves does that thing where he puts his hands behind his back and slightly leans forward
‘The Timinator’ I’m dying
Like Reeves said, Torres always has to one-up everyone else and I hate it
That kid was so sassy, omfG
Bishop knows Reeves so well, and it’s too adorable- how could the writers set up Ellick when Rishop already had an outline
That’s what you get for being such an asshole, Torres, and trying to get it back was one of the lowest things a character has done
I love it when NCIS includes charities (real and based-on-real) and the like in episodes
Words can’t even describe how much I hated Torres in this episode- he was at his worst
Pandora’s Box (Part 1)- Season 14, didn’t re-air with the other episodes because Part 2 (NOLA) is re-airing in two days from time of writing
Bishop being a fangirl was completely understandable (and relatable)
Good job insulting Abby, Torres- not
I’m gonna try and start saying ‘Aristotle banana split’ in everyday conversation
Poor Abby- such a sucky situation
Quinn is so annoying
JJ looks to old to have a daughter in preschool
‘Dr. Ducky’ TOO ADORABLE
Ducky and Reeves having banter about British things was the best thing ever
Bishop and Reeves are so cute together (also the ‘smart girl’ comment was definitely about her)
Bishop was on the shortlist after all, I’m so proud of her (even though the mission went south)
The NYB memorial wall, so sad
LaSalle (rip)! I just love his Alabama accent
Torres is just such a douche
McAbby is such a great brotp
Why does Torres have to be so dramatic and show-offy
WHY COULDN’T REEVES HAVE BEEN THE THIRD AGENT SO TORRES AND QUINN WOULD HAVE NEVER EXISTED AND CBS WOULD’VE SAVED HEAPS OF MONEY HIRING ONE MAIN CHARACTER THAT AUDIENCES ALREADY KNEW AND LOVED INSTEAD OF TWO NEW ANNOYING ONES
Burden Of Proof
Yuck, I hate Torres, and even more when he talks about himself
Sloane’s choker top, YES
I hate it when Torres messes with Bishop’s mind and feelings- that’s not how you show you care about someone
Oof, Fornell- it sucks his job was brought into this mess, and that he lost it as a result
I really don’t want to know why ‘feet’ was the first thing that came to Torres’ mind
There’s something to just love about when Vance breaks up Fornell and Gibbs’ arguments
‘Name That Profile’ actually sounds like a pretty fun game
I hate Torres’ innate cockiness- he risks the suspect getting away just so he can put on a show beforehand
Ouch, poor Fornell- it was the wrong decision, and I don’t know if I would’ve done it, but I did get why he did it- the evidence that Hicks killed the Lieutenant was compelling
Poor Gibbs, you can just see the inner turmoil in his head
Aww, Sloane
Fornell, aww- I’ll fight anyone who says he’s an inherently bad person
Hicks really is a great liar to be able to fool a shrink
I really liked the Gabriel Hicks arc, this episode was the first of a few great ones
Voices
It’s rich of Torres to back up a woman’s side of things
Never stop being awkward and adorkable, Jimmy (adwarkable?)
‘Jack, knock yourself out’ ‘I will, Gibbs’- funniest exchange ever
Ducky lives for the drama and I love it
Collapsing floor during a birthday party- hell of a way to go
Delilah putting up a firewall to prevent McGee from finding out the baby’s gender was so funny
Mike Franks popping up for all of ten seconds was just so iconic
The twins reveal was pretty cute
The foreshadowing in this episode with Sloane and the losing-a-daughter storyline (whether intentional or not) was really good to watch back
The amount of times the word ‘sex’ was said during this episode made me extremely uncomfortable- how hard is it to say ‘gender’ instead
Ready Or Not
Don’t be such an asshole to Reeves, Torres
The Harrison Ford-themed names were kind of bad, but definitely not as much as they could have been
Abby and Delilah’s friendship has come such a long way, I’m so proud
Aww, Morgan, he was so sweet and didn’t deserve to die
Poor Sloane
McGee making a duplicate comfort kit for Delilah was the most adorable thing ever, and Abby yelling along with her was so funny
Bishop and Reeves always stand and sit so close together, too cute
I remember watching this for the first time and being really shocked when Yorka shot Morgan, especially since it was so early on in the episode
Abby really is a terrible liar
Bishop and Gibbs’ little performance was awesome
I don’t know why they didn’t think about putting Sloane in in the first place
Sloane making snarky comments was awesome
Morgan dying was so sad
Seriously, Torres? Do you want everything to blow up?
Reeves and Torres debating the bomb was hilarious
I loved how Gibbs just straight-up punched the driver in the face
The end scene with the twin-naming was so cute
WHY COULDN’T REEVES HAVE BEEN THE THIRD AGENT SO TORRES AND QUINN WOULD HAVE NEVER EXISTED AND CBS WOULD’VE SAVED HEAPS OF MONEY HIRING ONE MAIN CHARACTER THAT AUDIENCES ALREADY KNEW AND LOVED INSTEAD OF TWO NEW ANNOYING ONES
High Tide (originally Ep. 11, but for some reason it aired as Ep. 10)
Torres is so obnoxious and a really bad law enforcer- lives are always more important than the op
Reeves worried about Bishop, so sweet
Torres is such a dick for ignoring Bishop and protocol
Ugh, why is Torres so arrogant and bigheaded- I hate him so much, yuck
How could those girls not know the capital of Maine
Insubordination is Torres’ middle name, and I could’ve watched a whole season’s worth of Vance chewing him out
Bishop’s anger was completely justified, but I wish it wasn’t because of feelings for him
I FUCKING HATE TORRES SO MUCH I WANT TO KILL HIM
Torres absolutely cannot be trusted, Sloane- you know it and so does everyone else
Yuuuck, I hated that part so much, and it didn’t even make sense- Bishop was super-angry at him just before, why would she do a complete 180
What other sort of cop is there, you idiot
Go, Bishop! So badass
Ya think, McGee?
Torres is such an idiot- don’t admit anything to someone who can’t be 100% trusted, and that plot twist was pretty predictable
More like a soft zero
Seriously? What if he died, you dickhead- also the fact that Torres had no backup plan and was only okay because the team saved him shows how self-obsessed and incompetent he is
The fact that the team doubted Torres shows how little he can be trusted, and how little they trust him
There was absolutely no chemistry between Bishop and Torres in this episode (or ever), and words can’t express how much I loathe and despise him and everything about him, which sucks because he could’ve been really well-written
Dark Secrets (originally Ep. 12, but for some reason it aired as Ep. 11)
I think all babies are pretty ugly, but Johnny and Morgan are cute
It’s just an ID photo, Torres- stop complaining
‘is there a spouse’ Autopsy Gremlin for the gender-inclusive win!
Carol mention! She’s awesome
Bud again! I’m using a lot of exclamation marks, but they’re things to exclaim about
Poor guy- she was a total asshole, lying to and cheating on him
Bishop and Sloane have such a pure relationship
Seriously, Torres? Not everyone dates in high school, and shaming someone about it is pathetic and juvenile (and it doesn’t help if they’re dead, either)
Recording your infidelity exploits isn’t a good idea (infidelity isn’t, full-stop)
I hate how obnoxious and over-confident Torres is
Just another instance of Torres manipulating someone into doing something for him
This was easily one of the most gross and uncomfortable plots I’ve seen, but a good way of showing that it’s not only guys that cheat and lie- girls do as well
WHY COULDN’T REEVES HAVE BEEN THE THIRD AGENT SO TORRES AND QUINN WOULD HAVE NEVER EXISTED AND CBS WOULD’VE SAVED HEAPS OF MONEY HIRING ONE MAIN CHARACTER THAT AUDIENCES ALREADY KNEW AND LOVED INSTEAD OF TWO NEW ANNOYING ONES

Fic: Storage War
Based on a prompt by @kat-har. Archive post will follow shortly!
“You really don’t have to do this,” Phil said, hovering in the doorway.
“It’s really fine, babe,” Clint said, pulling out another box and coughing at the cloud of dust that billowed off it.
“I promise I didn’t ask you here intending to pawn off all the work. Maybe you could take a break until I—”
“Phil. It’s fine. It might just as well have been me getting called in.” Clint smiled at him, hoping it was reassuring. “I came to help, I’m gonna help.” He waved a hand at the storage unit, piled high with the detritus of Phil’s childhood and teenage years. “Unless you’ve changed your mind about just throwing it all in a U-Haul and driving it to New York—”
“Ugh,” Phil said. “No. We’d end up storing it for another decade before we found the time to deal with it.”
“Then let me help you,” Clint said. Reaching out, he snagged Phil’s hand and pressed a kiss to his knuckles, scraped a little from where he’d barked his hand on the wall trying to get the rusted padlock open. “That’s what marriage is all about, right? For better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, for clearing out thirty-year-old storage units…”
Phil chuckled, turning his hand to cup Clint’s cheek. “I don’t remember that part in the vows.”
“It was right before the part about worshipping each other with our bodies,” Clint said.
“Ah, my favorite part.” Phil bent to kiss him, quick and soft. “I’ll be as fast as I can.”
“Don’t worry about it,” Clint said. “I’ll have fun. Maybe if I’m lucky there’ll be baby pictures.”
Phil rolled his eyes. “More likely to be awkward, pimply middle-school pictures.”
“I bet you were adorable. Go, help catch the bad guys while I work on sorting the greatest fashion hits of the early 80s.” He reached into a nearby box and pulled out a “Frankie Says Relax” t-shirt. “I think I might take this one home.” Phil laughed. “Just remember the size of our apartment when you’re deciding what you want to keep,” he said. “I’ll see you for dinner.”
“Sure thing.”
Clint smiled to himself as he watched Phil leave, then settled in to continue working through the massive pile of stuff. Phil had ignored the storage unit containing the contents of his mom’s house for decades; he’d still be ignoring it, if the facility wasn’t closing down, slated to give way to a new block of hipster lofts or something. So Clint, being a good partner, had taken some leave time and joined Phil in Wisconsin to deal with it.
They’d already worked through the furniture, picking out a few pieces to keep and donating the rest along with most of Phil’s mom’s clothes and personal items. What was left was mostly all Phil’s things. Honestly, Clint was kind of looking forward to going through them; he’d never known Phil as a kid, and there was something precious about seeing his carefully packed boxes of comics, the handmade quilt in red, white, and blue stars, the worn and ragged ear of a much-loved stuffed bear.
Clint had prioritized the things it would be easy to sort: outdated clothes that wouldn’t fit them, furnishings that had seen better days, an ancient cracked clock radio. The comics were easy, too, in the other direction; Clint wasn’t sure if Phil would want to keep or sell them, but he knew Phil would want to go over the collection in more detail.
He set aside a box of 8-tracks, humming Devo to himself, opened a box labeled “notebooks” in neat block print, and stuttered to a halt, blinking rapidly.
The box did contain a number of three-ring binders and spiral notebooks, but that wasn’t all; right on the top was some sort of comb-bound, copy-shop booklet which bore on the cover an overblown illustration of Captain America. Cap was tied to a post, his uniform shirt ripped to highlight his bulging muscles, and a masked Hydra goon was threatening him with a gun while cowering away from Peggy Carter, who was wearing a military uniform and brandishing a laser gun that Clint was pretty sure wasn’t historically accurate. Above Cap’s head, a hand-lettered title proclaimed the publication to be called “Rule Britannia.”
“Oh my god,” Clint said, and dove into the box with glee.
Some time later, he’d examined a remarkable number of Captain America fanzines. The earlier ones were general-purpose, with articles about Project Rebirth and the European Theater and, in one case, a painfully adorable letter from a fourteen-year-old Phil about the importance of the Howling Commandoes and Peggy Carter to the success of the SSR during the war. Later on, though, the general zines gave way to more focused ones, and Clint had to hold back his joyful giggles by main force. He’d found baby Phil’s stash of secret erotic Captain America fanfiction.
Best. Day. Ever.
Surprisingly, Phil’s interest seemed pretty evenly split between seeing Cap with Peggy Carter and seeing him with Bucky Barnes. Clint would have predicted Carter all the way, based on Phil's deeply nerdy obsession with her (and it was deeply, deeply nerdy, like, topic-of-his-graduate-thesis nerdy), but apparently Phil's appreciation for a smart-mouthed sniper was of longer duration than Clint had previously realized.
Tempted though he was, Clint didn’t take the time to read the stories; there just wasn’t time. He contented himself with thumbing through the zines, looking for bookmarks, stray notes, or other signs that might show him which ones had been Phil’s favorites. Unfortunately, Phil seemed to have been just as meticulous then as he was now, and the zines were in remarkable condition for their age. Clint set the last of them aside in a pile and picked up one of the spiral notebooks.
It had Cap’s shield on it, of course, and was well used, the corners worn and the spiral starting to work its way out of the top. Clint smiled, flipping open the cover. He felt a pang at the sight of younger Phil’s handwriting, recognizably similar to the way he wrote now, but more cautious, the letters formed deliberately as though Phil had been trying hard to keep it neat. Then he stopped looking at the page and started reading it, and he had to stop and clutch it to his chest in delight.
Phil hadn’t just read Captain America fanfiction. He had written it.
Clint sat his ass down on the dusty concrete floor of the storage unit and started perusing his treasure.
Honestly, if Clint had ever considered the question he would have said that baby Phil’s stories would feature a thinly-disguised version of himself. Fictional Phil might be a previously unknown Howling Commando, or maybe some other kind of ally—a soldier, or part of the French Resistance, or a British spy—who came through in a tight spot to save Cap’s life and/or mission. (Which wasn’t really that far-fetched; it was pretty much the same kind of thing that adult Phil did for his agents now.) Possibly the stories might have ended with Cap showing his appreciation by inviting fictional Phil to bed, or at least with a manly embrace of gratitude. After all, wasn’t that was what teenage stories were for? Trying on scenarios, writing about the life you wish you had. Clint hadn’t been much for writing as a kid, but he’d sure as hell spun up enough daydreams, trying to fall asleep when it seemed like every inch of his body hurt. Daydream Clint was the star of the circus. Daydream Clint had a family who loved him. Daydream Clint had money, had a home, was the best archer in the world.
Daydream Clint had lived a life pretty much like the one Clint had now, actually, if you swapped out the circus for SHIELD. Clint kind of wished he could go back in time and tell his skinny, scared teenage self the good news. Stick with it, kid, things will turn out great for you one day.
Anyway, Clint wanted to know what Daydream Phil was like. Phil, being Phil, had helpfully dated each of his notebooks, so Clint piled them up in order, grabbed the earliest one, and started reading.
An hour later, he set the next-to-last notebook down, rubbing at his eyes. For all that Phil’s zine collection ran to happy romantic endings, the stuff Phil had actually written was pretty much the opposite. Clint knew—he’d known for years—that Phil’d had trouble as a kid, trying to reconcile his bisexuality with his dream of going into the Army. But Clint had never expected to see all of young Phil’s confusion and anger and hurt and fear projected onto stories about his boyhood hero.
The Steve Rogers in Phil’s stories was pained and unsure, in love with Bucky and Peggy both and struggling to find a resolution that didn’t hurt either of them. The plots were pretty clichéd, and the prose was a bit overblown, but the emotions came through clearly. Steve Rogers, as Phil had seen him, felt like he had no good choices, torn between Peggy, Bucky, and his moral obligation to fight Hydra. If he went with Bucky, he lost Peggy and neglected his duty; if he went with Peggy, he lost Bucky, and felt guilty for allowing society to dictate who he loved. Just because he loved a woman, that didn’t mean he wanted his choice of partner forced by anything but himself. Clint wondered why it had never occurred to Phil to put Captain America in a fictional ménage-à-trois. It would present a neat solution to the whole love triangle issue, at any rate. Although he supposed it was probably a lot harder to think outside that particular box in the days before the internet. Who was supposed to be the role model, Three’s Company? Ugh.
The last notebook was all one, long story, and it was the most heartbreaking of all. In it, Cap was pining for his two loves as per Phil’s usual, but every other chapter was a short story where Steve imagined what would happen in a different scenario. Clint read a description of Steve and Bucky leaving the Army to live together, their happiness soured by Steve’s guilt over leaving the war. He read an account of Steve marrying Peggy and Bucky marrying someone named Lorraine. The two men set up housekeeping next door to one another, named their children after each other, while Steve tried to use his real happiness to bury the part of himself that never stopped wanting Bucky. There was a chapter where—finally—Phil had considered the possibility of polyamory, and Steve daydreamed about a life where they all got a house together, where Steve had a wife and a husband both, but even in that fantasy world they spent their time hiding, from the Army or the press or the neighbors, sending Bucky on false dates to try to keep their secret. Not one of the scenarios had a happy ending, all of them going back to the same place: Cap, alone and hopeless and pretending everything was fine. The story ended as Cap was piloting the crashing plane, giving himself one final dream as the water rose up around him. He dreamed of Bucky being found, alive after all, and he and Peggy comforting each other. They’d be perfect for each other, Steve thought, brilliant and beautiful together, and they would have amazing children with dark wavy hair and maybe they’d name the first boy Steve.
Clint read the final lines of the story, his chest aching.
It was for the best, Steve thought, taking one last gasping breath before the water closed over his head. They both deserved the best. They both deserved a happy ending.
Clint closed the notebook and took a deep, shaky breath. He was not going to cry over ancient Captain America fanfiction, he wasn’t.
He might possibly be going to cry a little over the writer, though. Thinking of Phil reading all those happily-ever-afters but never able to bring himself to write one of his own…
“Clint? How’s it going in here?”
Clint turned around sharply as Phil came around the corner. Shit, how long had he been reading?
“What’s wrong?” Phil asked, his smile falling away as he saw Clint’s face. “What—oh.” He looked at the pile of zines and notebooks scattered around Clint, the tips of his ears going red. “Oh god, I thought I threw those away.”
Clint dropped the notebook and scrambled to his feet, crossing the cramped space in a few strides and wrapping his arms around Phil, holding him tight. After a moment, he felt Phil’s arms come up around him, as well, and Phil patted Clint’s shoulder tentatively.
“Are you okay?” Phil asked quietly, brushing a kiss over Clint’s ear.
Clint sniffled. “I’m fine, I just—Phil. The happiest ending you could think of was Steve dying so that Peggy and Bucky could marry each other? I feel like I need to go back in time and make sure Teenage You is okay.”
Phil was quiet, his arms tightening around Clint. “Oh,” he said, softly. “Yeah. I was… things were tough, when I was writing those.”
“I could tell. When I found the box, I thought it was going to be cute, you know? Funny.” Clint nestled his head into the crook of Phil’s neck, taking comfort in the familiar bergamot and sandalwood scent of his aftershave. “I thought I’d get to tease you a little, maybe. I never thought you’d be into writing tragedies.”
“I was a melodramatic kid,” Phil said. “I had a girlfriend, and I loved her, but I also had a wicked crush on a guy I was on swim team with, plus I wanted to go into the Army… I felt like every choice I had was wrong somehow, like no matter what I did I’d end up unhappy.” He stroked his hand down Clint’s spine, heavy and reassuring. “If I’d known then how my life would turn out, those stories would have probably been really different.”
“Yeah?” Clint made himself pull back enough to see Phil’s face.
“Absolutely,” Phil said, and pressed a tender, lingering kiss to Clint’s mouth.
“All I would have needed to see is you.”
“That you ended up with a husband?”
“That I ended up with a happy ending,” Phil said, and Clint had to kiss him again until they were both breathless.
They ended up taking the box back to New York, where it found a new home in the back of a closet. The story kept nagging at Clint, at odd moments here and there, until finally he scrawled a new chapter in the back of a steno pad, an epilogue where Steve woke up in a hospital, the war won, and Bucky and Peggy both there to welcome him, holding hands with him and with each other. He felt kind of silly about it, but also like he owed Phil’s long-ago self some kind of resolution.
When he opened the box to stick the steno pad in, he pulled up short at the sight of something bright blue. He picked it up; it was a sheet of blue cardstock, and mounted in the middle of it was one of the photos from Clint and Phil’s wedding. They were dancing, looking into each others’ eyes. They looked devoted and intent, blissfully in love.
At the bottom of the page, there was a message in Phil’s neat, blocky handwriting.
And they lived happily ever after.
