watched some more episodes, have some more of my & dads Thoughts
how the FUCK does toph beifong end up the chief of police, what?????
I wonder whether the whole bending vs nonbending tension has always been a thing, or if aang ended up creating that environment somehow? I think it'd be really cool to see aang not be a Perfect avatar
where was katara during that whole flashback sequence?? you'd think they'd make sure to have a skilled waterbender who knows how to bloodbend on hand when dealing with a presumably crazy- powerful bloodbender
dad firmly believes Asami is going to end up betraying the group, I'm hoping she gets to have a zuko-esque "time to choose which side I'm on" type arc
we both agree that all the weird relationship drama is annoyingly unnecessary, please just let a boy and a girl be friends ffs
also don't @ me but amon (that's his name right? the head equalist?) and his chi-blockers are like. annoyingly overpowered.
like one thing atla did really well was showing that all the antagonists were human, and just as susceptible to indignity and embarrassment as anyone else, and korra,,, doesn't do that.
getting a little tired of literally everyone being completely helpless, all the time, to these guys
overall lok seems to take itself very seriously which doesn't make it a super fun watch. not to say it isn't good or even great, it's a perfectly compelling and entertaining show in its own right, but it doesn't quite capture the charm that atla had.
not enough Bolin, hoping he gets to have some character development outside all the relationship drama
I am saying once again: who thought training the avatar before they were 16 was a good idea, I just wanna talk
I'm going to restrain from giving an opinion on whether I think lok is better/worse/on par with atla, mainly because a) im not even a full season in yet and b) it seems to be doing its own thing, so I'm just gonna wait and see where this goes.
watched the first episode of the legend of korra with my dad yesterday, some takeaways:
I refuse to believe tenzin and katara weren't awkward as hell around korra the first couple years, like that had to have been a Thing
how the fuck does the daughter of toph "pulled a long series of scams in the fire nation while she was actively wanted," "champion of presumably illegal underground fighting ring," "invented metalbending because Fuck You" beifong end up to be the Ultimate Narc???? what?????
my dad is delighted by the fact that the show is so unapologetic about naming the hybrid animals. like, it's not a polar dog, it's a polar bear-dog. Legendary behavior.
I know aang wanted korra to be protected or whatever, but I feel like he should know better than to let the avatar be trained early, considering that the monks tried that with him and it Did Not End Well. like aang, my dude, what???
I will say that facial expressions are On Point
also the whole interaction between korra and the non-bending rights guy was golden
so far I don't really get why some people hate the show so much??? it seems pretty good
(btw if you see this please do not take this as an oppurtunity to spoil anything, like even just a "oh just wait until this episode" I want to go into this as blind as I possibly can thx)
