i love how ''some of the specific formatting choices on this site make harassment really easy to the point that a genuine social code has evolved around running people off of tumblr in record time'' is literally something people have been pointing out for well over a decade (typing this sentence made me realize I have been on this site for almost a decade which is part of why I have a frame of reference for this, fuck my entire life honestly, but I digress)

anyway as I was saying people have been saying this for a long time and the most we ever got was that in 2015 (I think) they decided to make the block feature actually work. and people were ecstatic to get even that because there had been no proper blocking system for the entire 8 years tumblr had existed for at that point. do you guys remember that actually? how there was a time when blocking someone just hid them from your dash but they could still interact with your posts freely? but also it didn't actually even hide them from your dash very well either so people had to use xkit to blacklist usernames? anyway I keep getting distracted

my very long winded point is that this has been a problem on tumblr for a long time, it's part of why the callout post industry thrived so much back in the day, and obviously these same issues with the site's structure and moderation make it easier for bad actors to target black and/or transfem people in harassment campaigns, which has always happened on here and clearly still does. and the day that matt here has to experience it himself first hand (he fully deserves it but I have no doubt he was swamped with REAL death threats. not so fun when they're not jokes about cars and hammers are they matt?) his immediate response is to make a post saying wow this blows. I wish someone could fix this. anyway we might shut down the site because my feelings are really hurt LIKE DUDE BFFR
