Paddy Pimblett takes UD over Jared Gordon

2-1 Gordon. No way Paddy gets that win. Shameless “we got to give it to the guy with the hype cause he didn’t die’ scoring right there.

As someone who watched Pimblett on the regional scene, never understood the hype. He’s super limited. He doesn’t have the schooling of a McGregor. Doesn’t even have the limited danger factor of an O’Malley. Gordon basically put the man on his bicycle because Paddy has 0 defense other than leaning back out of the way of strikes. So every time Gordon committed to the left hook or the overhand, he found it. I gave Paddy the last round just cause Gordon landed nothing as he tried to out wrestle him along the fence but even that wasn’t a good look cause it was a much smaller man just pushing him into the fence for 5 minutes.

Very disappointing main card at UFC282. The only really good fights were Buckley vs Curtis and the Rozenstruik one, both down on the prelims. I also can’t help but feel that Darren Till and Paddy the Baddy have reached their ceiling: Till is too damaged, a shadow of his former self, and Paddy’s skills have taken him as far as he’s going to go. Which bums me out to say, being British and wanting them to do well.

Ilia Topuria submits Bryce Mitchell in the 2nd!

So I vastly underestimated how well Topuria can wrestle but also how angry he is. Cause dude was out there chucking bombs and fighting like Mitchell had kidnapped his kid or something. Got off to a strong start immediately by kicking out that lead leg of Mitchell, making him switch stance. From there, Bryce struggled getting to his shot. Topuria did a great job of sprawling, framing in the clinch to avoid the cage, and tagging the crap out of Mitchell with big power shots. He got on the front foot and just didn’t allow for Mitchell to come forward. Bryce did finally manage to get Topuria down at the end of the first round with a nice takedown off a overhand where Topuria slipped the punch and didn’t have time to get down to sprawl. But he couldn’t do anything with it.

Mitchell could not get back to that position in the 2nd. Topuria came forward again, framed or sprawled on Mitchell’s takedown attempts and then jump bombed him on the feet. I think it was a overhand into a left hook that sent Bryce spiralling to the mat. Topuria proceeded to throw Mitchell to the mat and beat him up from top position. As he tried to stand to escape, Topuria locked up an arm triangle and got the tap.

Topuria benefited a lot from how Mitchell basically had no boxing game when he couldn’t come forward. But still, that was a fantastic win. Beat Mitchell in the place he was supposed to be scariest. Hopefully we see Topuria get a big top 5 opponent in his next one. Man has earned it.
