Idly Mai scraped at the label of her beer bottle, watching out of the corner of her eye as Shingen ran a diagnostic check on her prototype. Hopefully, she hadn’t made what amounted to a mathematical error – that would be seriously humiliating. “I really appreciate your help – especially at the last minute. All the other mages I called were booked for weeks.” He paused and flashed a seriously dangerous smile at her. “That, Angel, is because I’m not a mage. Not officially.” Really? She was certain that Sasuke had told her that Shingen… well, no matter. He still seemed to know what he was doing. “What would make you an official mage?” “Defend my thesis, but –“ He shrugged. “There’s a bit of politics involved.”
