Are we (still) a promotion candidate?!
Tumblr media
2200 people went to the stadium to watch União (which was forced to play on their away kit due to another kit clash drama) winning against Portimonense thanks to a single goal by Alisson, after the apparent end of the Vitória de Guimarães rumor, as Vitória signed two players from similar positions from two other Liga 2 squads. União sits currently at the eighth place of the table, but only three points away from the promotion playoffs spot, currently occupied by fourth place Alverca (Benfica B is currently the third placed team, but as reserve squads cannot get promoted, the promotion spots go to the clubs immediately below them when applicable. Also note that Benfica B still has to play against Torreense, and a victory by Torreense actually takes them to the fourth place in the table).
Coincidentally, the next matchday has a Leiria vs Alverca match at Alverca, which has major implications to the table: a Leiria win brings them to the same 31 points as Alverca (Torreense can reach 31 points with a draw against Benfica B this Monday). Alverca, current Liga 3 title holder, is possibly the most in form team in the second division since the hiring of former Leiria manager Vasco Botelho da Costa.
Meanwhile, the women's squad had another setback away from home, as União lost 3-2 away to EFF Setúbal, and with their second defeat, the possibilities of reaching the second division next year already became close to zero.
According to information I was able to gather after this Sunday's match, União has paid half of the 120 thousand € transfer fee for Marc Baró (starting left back, signed from Real Murcia) which caused the current FIFA registration ban. The D'avilla to Leeds rumor also received another possibility, as Leeds already appears to have considerable depth in the holding midfielder position, and the new hypothesis is loaning D'avilla to a Portuguese first division club to avoid the immediate problems with work permit if Leeds reach the Premier League next season.
Such a link states there are other clubs interested in the Ivorian midfielder, but as far as I know, no information about additional clubs was found so far.

Liga Portugal 2, matchday 12: Leiria 1 Feirense 0
The Unionista Black Friday started in the most stupid way possible as the shop only announced the sales at 3PM and that they would last until 6PM, where the last stocks of last season products were to sale with 50% discount (match shirts had an additional 5€ discount for club members, and many of them had name and number print). The sales had to be extended until Saturday because nobody came to the shop on Friday, and until the end of the match there still were a fair amount of stuff up to sale. Thankfully I managed to take one goalkeeper shirt, a scarf which an apartment mate has requested me, and a scarf which I am saving to gift to Alice Oseman themself when I ever meet them (more on this later).
On the match, even with the free tickets and black Friday sale, it was the weakest attendance in two or three seasons, as just 2000 people attended the match. Feirense threatened in a few moments, but the match momentum was most in Leiria's favor, mainly on individual attempts by Alisson, and later by Jair, both lacking on the finishing touch and holding the ball for too long. Both teams had their best chances during the last forty minutes of the match, which had ten minutes added due to a referee substitution. The winning goal was scored by Sarpreet Singh (first of the season)
With this victory, União once again stands a bit clearer from the relegation spots, four points ahead of the 16th place.

Habemus manager
According to A Bola, Silas, former União player (two stints), agreed to a contract with UD Leiria until the end of this season, with an optional extension.
Silas was the manager of Marítimo in the start of the season, leaving the club after five matches (2W-1D-2L) for personal reasons. Last season he managed Mafra and was involved in an incident with União player Kaká at the end of the União-Mafra match in Leiria.

Men lose to Vizela, women win big at home, Alisson leaving, a new player joining?
On the men's side, União went to Vizela and lost 1-0 in a match which started in the terrible time of sunday 11:00. Dje D'avilla returned to the starting 11 in a match União created almost nothing.
However, in Leiria, in the same sunday, the women's squad hosted SU Sintrense and got their second home win of the promotion stage, with the same 5-0 score as the first one.
According to A Bola, midfielder Diogo Abreu (Sporting B, 2024/25: 21 matches, 1200 minutes, 2 goals) will be joining União, but how and if he will play this season stays a mystery, as União is currently banned from registering new players.
The answer might pass by Vitória de Guimarães: after selling Manu Silva to Benfica for approximately €12M, Vitória is reported to be targeting a replacement, and one potential target is Leiria's Alisson (2024/25: 15 matches, 5 goals), which is actually on loan from EC Vitória (Brazil), with the loan having a purchase clause of 750.000€. The idea would be União activating the purchase clause, then sellgin the player to the Guimarães club.
Next match: Sunday March 26th, 15:30, home vs. Portimonense

No Nélio, no problems?
The apparent designer of the t y r e wasn't present at the last home match against Feirense because he got suspended for two weeks after accessing a reserved zone for club presidents saying he was the club president (which he is not, so far)
And apparently that was the reason why Leiria won the last match and we are having one week of peace.

And in the newest episode of the never ending Secret Base's Beef History series of UD Leiria vs Leiria, the mayor of the city is accusing the club oftrying to smear the city council because of the complaints due to the state of the pitch after the Rockin'1000 concert

The week when everything and some more went wrong
First the Rockin'1000 concert which damaged the pitch so hard it will take almost one month to recover it...
Then the debts with the city for using the stadium still not being paid...
And finally, being the only club which still did not showed they paid the wages yet.
Each day the "I became a fan of Alice Oseman because the worst thing they could do to the Portuguese society would be being a shareholder of UD Leiria and bringing the club to the Champions League" approaches the "I know Alice Oseman might hate football but i bet my soul they wouldn't do even five percent of the harm the current admininstration made to the club in the last six months" and is zooming dangerously into "Please Alice Oseman, buy our club for God's sake, we are being run by conmen"

For those asking what is the picture of the avatar: It's the very own Tori Spring wearing the 1995-96 União de Leiria home shirt, with adaptations so the original artwork by Alice Oseman is fully respected:
