Chapter 4: Blossoming Love, Blooming Life
One evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm glow over their modest home, Mertin and Garcia shared a moment of quiet intimacy. Sitting by the hearth, they spoke softly of their hopes and dreams for the future, their hands intertwined in a silent display of love.
Suddenly, a mischievous grin spread across Garcia's face as she glanced at Mertin and whispered playfully, "I have a secret to share with you." Mertin raised an eyebrow, intrigued by Garcia's teasing tone. "Oh? What is it, my love?" he asked, leaning closer. Garcia placed a hand over her belly, a glimmer of excitement in her eyes. "I believe we'll be welcoming a new member into our family soon," she announced, her voice tinged with emotion. Mertin's eyes widened with surprise and joy. He couldn't believe the happiness that flooded his heart at Garcia's words. "Are you serious?" he whispered, his voice catching in his throat. Garcia nodded, tears of joy brimming in her eyes. "Yes, I'm going to be a mother, and you, a father, once again," she replied, her voice filled with love and wonder.
He gently placed his head against Garcia's belly, feeling the faint flutter of life within. His eyes sparkled with wonder and love as he stroked her belly tenderly.
"Hello in there, little one," Mertin whispered softly, his voice carrying a mixture of awe and affection. "You're already bringing so much joy to our hearts." Overwhelmed with emotion, Mertin pulled Garcia into a tight embrace, holding her close to his heart. "This is the most wonderful news, Garcia. I can't express how much it means to me," he murmured, his voice filled with tenderness.
From that moment on, the anticipation of their baby's arrival heightened, becoming a cherished part of their daily conversations and interactions. Mertin and Garcia found themselves bonding even more closely as they eagerly awaited the birth of their child.

Part 1: The Beginnings of the Cabeza Fridlein Legacy
Trigger warning: Mentions of death, alcohol and marriage with large age gap.
In the heart of 1300s England, amid the serene countryside guarded by the noble Marquisess and Marquess of the Ridall Poyner family, resided the Cabeza Fridlein family—a family woven into a tapestry of joy and sorrow.
Mertin Fridlein, bearing the visible marks of life's trials, encountered his first heartbreak in 1296 when a devastating fever claimed his cherished son, Albert. This loss left Mertin and his wife, Unna Bane, grappling with profound grief and an irreplaceable void.
However, amidst their sorrow, a glimmer of light persisted in the form of their youngest daughter, Anna, who, at three years old, brought forth laughter and an innocent charm. Anna became the anchor that steadied Mertin and Unna, offering hope amidst despair.
The subsequent years were a period of yearning and sorrow as Mertin and Unna, desperate to fill the void left by Albert's passing, struggled to conceive again. Yet fate remained unyielding, denying them the blessing of another child.
Tragedy struck again in 1299, when Unna, weighed down by unfulfilled desires and grief, unexpectedly passed away. The small village mourned her departure, leaving Mertin to navigate his profound sorrow with a heavy heart—now burdened with the loss of both son and wife.
In search of peace from his mind, Mertin sought solace in taverns, drowning his anguish in ale. Rumors and gossip circulated throughout the village, further staining his reputation.
Amid this turbulent period, Mertin's path crossed with that of Garcia Cabeza, a spirited and resilient young woman who had traversed a difficult life's journey. Born in a distant land and orphaned, Garcia sought to overcome her past and start anew in the village.
Fate intertwined Mertin and Garcia's lives, both carrying their own scars and burdens. Ignoring the town's gossip, Garcia saw beyond the surface, empathizing with Mertin's pain and connecting with the man beneath. Their bond deepened, and Garcia's presence became a source of comfort, alongside her unwavering support.
Their story takes of in the year 1300, the year Mertin and Garcia tied the knot, ready to face life together with Anna, as a family...
Meet Mertin Fridlein from Germany, born in 1256, a serf for the Ridall Poyner. Mertin is 44 years old.
Meet Unna Bane from Ireland, born in 1276 a daughter of a craftsmen, fleed to marry Mertin and became a serf . Died in 1299 from drowning, only 23 years old.
Meet Garcia Cabeza from Spain, born in 1281, came to England in 1296. Became a serf upon marrying Mertin. Garcia is 19 years old.
Meet Anna Bane Fridlein, Mertin and Unnas second and only surviving child. Anna was born in 1293, and is 7 years old.

Chapter 5: Cradling Love
The days grew colder, and winter's chill settled into the Cabeza Fridlein home. Garcia, heavy with child, felt the strain of the changing season, her back aching from the weight she carried. As she went about her daily tasks, Mertin noticed the subtle cringe that occasionally crossed her face.
One evening, as they stood together in their small, dimly lit home, Garcia cringed again, her hand resting on her lower back. Mertin, observant and caring, instantly noticed her discomfort.
"Garcia, my love, come here," Mertin said, his voice gentle and full of concern. He guided her to stand in front of him, facing away.
Garcia gratefully leaned back into his arms, finding support and comfort in his strong embrace. "This little one is getting heavier by the day," she murmured, rubbing her belly.
Mertin placed his hands on her back, his touch firm yet tender. Slowly, he began to knead her muscles, his fingers working their way up her spine. Garcia let out a soft sigh, leaning into the massage and relishing the comfort it brought.
"It feels wonderful," she whispered, her eyes closing in bliss. Mertin continued the massage, focusing on the areas that seemed to be causing Garcia the most discomfort. He applied just the right amount of pressure, easing the tension in her back. "I wish I could take this burden away from you," Mertin said softly, his voice filled with empathy.
Garcia placed her hand on top of his, offering him a reassuring smile. "You already do so much for our family, Mertin. This... this little backache is nothing compared to the love and support you give us every day." He looked at her, his heart swelling with love and gratitude for the woman in his arms. "You are my world, Garcia," he whispered, his voice barely above a breath. "I'll do anything to make this journey easier for you."
With the soft glow of the fireplace illuminating their faces, they stood together, finding strength in each other's embrace. In this quiet moment, they knew that no matter what challenges lay ahead, their love and resilience would guide them through, bound together as they journeyed through the winter of their lives, eagerly awaiting the spring of new beginnings with the arrival of their precious child.

Part 3: A Day at the Village Fair
Amid autumn's golden landscape, memories of Unna lingered in the Cabeza Fridlein family's hearts. To weave new moments, Mertin, nostalgic yet eager, took Anna to the yearly village fair.
Held in a picturesque park, colorful banners fluttered while merriment echoed. Stalls lined the pathways, offering trinkets, toys, and delectable treats, inviting participation.
Near the fair's perimeter, an allocated spot held a horseshoe game. A merchant shouted, "Hey hey, come on by, try your luck at the horseshoe game, only 40§." Anna's eyes gleamed with excitement at the setup in the open space. "Papa, can we play the horseshoe game?" she asked, tugging at his sleeve.
Mertin hesitated briefly, eyeing the horseshoes and posts with concern. Their family faced challenging times, each coin held value. Yet, Anna's enthusiasm and her love for the game overcame his doubts. "Alright, my dear. We'll give it a try," he agreed, offering a smile.
With each toss, Anna's aim improved, and Mertin couldn't help but be impressed by his daughter's determination and skill. They cheered each other on, celebrating each successful throw as if they were knights in a jousting match.
As the sun began its descent, casting a golden glow over the park, Mertin and Anna eventually called an amiable truce, both declaring each other the winner of the day's games. Their hearts filled with the warmth of a day well spent, they decided to head back home, content with the joy they had shared at the fair.
Upon their return, they were greeted by Garcia, who was feeling a little under the weather. Despite her discomfort, she made sure to prepare a comforting broth for her family, ensuring they were well taken care of after their day of festivities.
As they gathered around the table, Anna couldn't help but share the excitement of the horseshoe game with Garcia. "Garcia, you should have seen it! I played horseshoes with father, and I almost won every time!" Anna exclaimed, her eyes glowing with happiness.
Garcia smiled warmly at the enthusiasm in Anna's voice. "It sounds like you had fun, and that you were amazing, my dear." she replied smiling at them both. Mertin chuckled, feeling a sense of pride in his daughter's accomplishments.

Part 2: Grieving Hearts and Growing Bonds
As the days turned into weeks and the weeks into months, Mertin still found himself grieving the loss of his beloved Unna. He worked tirelessly on the plot of land, hoping to bring it to a state where crops could thrive and his family could secure a stable livelihood. Garcia, his new wife, was eager to help in any way she could, despite her limited knowledge of gardening. She humbly offered her assistance, trying her best to learn alongside Mertin and support his efforts.
However, as the seasons changed, it became apparent that Garcia's true expertise lay in the art of fishing. She would often venture to the nearby river, skillfully casting her net, and returning home with a bountiful catch to supplement the family's income. Her joy in providing for her new family was evident, and she saw fishing as not just a means to earn money but a way to connect with the natural world and bring some joy to their lives.
Garcia embraced simple joys, yet the fragile bond with Anna, still mourning her mother's loss, posed a challenge. Anna clung to memories of her mother, struggling to accept Garcia. Aware of the situation's delicacy, Garcia aimed for patience and compassion, yearning to build trust through time and tenderness.
One day, on the way home, Garcia saw a beautiful flower, that reminded her of Anna's innocence and fragile heart, prompting her to pick the flower for her.
When Garcia came home, she noticed Anna in the corner of the room, surrounded by a pile of colourful scarves and old dresses. Anna had transformed her play area into a whimsical world of dress-up, seeking a refuge in make-believe.
Garcia approached Anna with a warm smile, intrigued by her creative imagination. "Oh, Anna, you look absolutely lovely in your dress-up ensemble," she said gently. Anna blushed, momentarily taken aback by Garcia's kind words. "Th-thank you," she stammered, tugging at the frayed hem of one of the scarves. "I brought this flower for you, Anna," Garcia said softly, extending the flowr towards her. "It reminded me of you," Garcia said softly. Anna's eyes widened in surprise, and she hesitated for a moment before gingerly accepting the gift. "Th-thank you, Garcia," she replied, a glimmer of appreciation shining in her gaze.'
