USA Olympic Women's Freestyle Wrestling Squad
Finally, wrestling starts this week! August 5th, we will be getting the start of all the wrestling competition. Best combat sport at the Olympics imo. Excited to see everyone compete. Here is a quick run through of the American women's squad.
Just some context: the team to beat is Japan. The Japanese women's team won 4 of the 6 gold medals available for freestyle wrestling at the 2020 games. The only two Japanese wrestlers who did not medal at all lost to Tamyra Mensah-Stock (who won gold for the US) in the opening round and lost in the final round of the repechage for bronze. That is the level of domination the US team (and the world) was up against.
Sarah Hildebrandt - 50 kg -Hildebrandt is a returning Olympic wrestler. She walked away with a bronze at the 2020 Olympics and is a regular on the podium at the world championships, winning 2 bronze and 2 silver over the years. Unfortunately for Hildebrandt, the field has been dominated by Yui Susaki (arguably the best female wrestler on the planet) since like 2017.
Dom Parrish - 53 kg - This will be Dom Parrish's first Olympics! She won gold at the world championships back in 2022 but went out in the first round of the 2023 world championships. The odds on favorite should be 20 year old Akari Fujinami. She won gold at the 2021 and 2023 world championships and is looking like another blue chip Japanese generational star in women's wrestling.
Helen Maroulis - 57 kg - Helen Maroulis is a veteran of the Olympic games and the first woman in American history to bring home gold for freestyle wrestling back in 2016. She did it in hyper impressive fashion, beating Saori Yoshida - the 2nd best credentialed female wrestler of all time - to do it. Sadly, Maroulis had a bunch of health issues that hindered her 2nd attempt in 2020 (she took bronze) and hasn't reached the same heights since. The favorite has to be 3x world champion Tsugumi Sakurai, another 20 year old phenom who is coming off winning the 2021, 2022, and 2023 gold medals at worlds.
Kayla Miracle - 62 kg - Miracle is looking to overwrite her 2020 experience. A medal hopeful for the US in Tokyo, she ended up losing in the first round of the competition. She's since won a silver medal at the 2021 and 2023 world championships, signalling more comfort in international competition. The favorite at 62 kg has to be Aisuluu Tynybekova of Kyrgyzstan. She was the silver medalist at the 2020 Olympic games and is a 3x world champion.
Amit Elor - 68 kg - Japan is not the only country with young phenoms on the docket. 20 year old Amit Elor is the future of USA wrestling. She's won 7 gold medals at the world level (3 at the jr level, 2 at the U23 level, and 2 at the senior level). She's the odds on favorite to win at this weight class. She hasn't lost on the mat since 2019. She's only given up like 6 points at the senior level through 2 world championships. The main thing for Elor is that she's competing down in weight (she's normally 72 kg). There is some real talent at the weight class (Nonoka Ozaki, Buse Tosun Çavuşoğlu, Blessing Oborududu, etc).
Kennedy Blades - 76 kg - I called Elor the future of USA wrestling but so is Kennedy Blades. 20 year old Blades beat out Adeline Gray (6x world champion, 2020 Olympic silver medalist, and most experienced American wrestler) to earn a spot on this roster. Only reason she didn't make the games in 2020 (when she was 17!) is because she lost in the finals of qualification to Tamyra Mensah-Stock, who won a gold medal. Blades was a gold medalist at the u20 world championships and a silver medalist at the U23 world championships. I imagine the favorite for this field would be 2023 champion, Yuka Kagami.
Back later with the guys freestyle team.

1987 💀💀
just read something about the 1992 olympic tournament and the article mentionend that even in camp nou there was 'espana' chants, but i didn't realize it was ~that~ special.
where there regular games before 1987 in camp nou? during the dictatorship? do/did they play regularly in sarria/RCDE or is it just that they're mostly avoiding bcn alltogether?
fun fact, all of spain's games during the 1992 olympics were in valencia except for the final (which was at camp nou but i didn't include that in the original ask because it was the u23 team)
there have been five Spain games at Camp Nou in total between 1960–1987 and four of them were friendlies. at Montjuic there have been eight Spain matches between 1930–2004 (all of them friendlies) and at RCDE there was only the game in 2022 (also a friendly), as far as i know, Sarrià never hosted a Spain match

NHL Returning to Olympics in 2026
Tumblr media
There hasn't been a best-on-best international ice hockey tournament since the World Cup of Hockey in 2016, but that will change in 2025 with the National Hockey League (NHL) 4 Nations Face-Off, a precursor to the league's return to the Olympics in 2026. Played from February 12 to 20 in Boston, Massachusetts, and Montreal, Quebec, the round-robin tournament will feature the United States, Canada, Sweden, and Finland. The following year, NHL players will be participating in the Olympics for the first time since the Sochi 2014 Games.
NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said the 4 Nations Face-Off, held in place of the annual All-Star Game in the 2024-25 season, will be a one-off event. In an effort to provide fans with more best-on-best international hockey, the NHL will host the World Cup of Hockey in 2028 and has an agreement with the NHL Players Association (NHLPA) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to send players to the 2030 Olympics. The league intends to host the World Cup two years after every Winter Olympics.
Ice hockey has been part of the Winter Olympics since 1920, when Canada beat the United States 2-0 to win the gold medal in Antwerp, Belgium. Canada won six of the first seven Olympic gold medals, following which the Soviet Union enjoyed a dominant stretch, winning seven of nine gold medals. However, NHL players weren't permitted to play in the Olympics until the Nagano Games in 1998, meaning the Canadian and American teams were composed of amateur athletes - the US, with a roster of mostly college players, famously beat the Soviets in the "Miracle on Ice" game in 1980.
The Czech Republic won gold in the first of five consecutive Winter Olympics in which NHL players participated, beating Russia 1-0 in the final. Surprisingly, neither Canada nor the US medaled. However, the North American nations met in the gold medal game at Salt Lake City in 2002 and Vancouver in 2010, with Canada winning both games. Sweden beat Finland in the gold medal game in Torino in 2006, and Canada beat Sweden in the final in Sochi in 2014.
The NHL, NHLPA, and IOC couldn't agree on NHL player inclusion in the 2018 Games in PyeongChang largely due to travel costs and marketing rights. This appeared to be a one-off as all parties agreed to a deal for NHL participation in the Beijing 2022 Games in September 2021, but the NHL and NHLPA backed out a few months later after a COVID-19 outbreak that disrupted an already shortened schedule for the NHL.
The upcoming 4 Nations Face-Off will be the first time some of the NHL's best players, including Auston Matthews (USA) and Connor McDavid (Canada), get to represent their respective countries in best-on-best international hockey. Both Matthews and McDavid played in the World Cup in 2016 but were part of the U23 Team North America. McDavid has been an outspoken advocate for international hockey and for the NHL to return to the Olympics.
In June, the four teams in the 4 Nations Face-Off selected their first six players for the upcoming tournament. McDavid headlines Canada's group, which also includes Sidney Crosby and Nathan MacKinnon. Matthews is joined by Matthew Tkachuk, Jack Eichel, Quinn Hughes, Adam Fox, and Charlie McAvoy on Team USA.

Once a glory of the nation until becoming the butt of a joke - Does Cong Phuong deserve this?
Nguyen Cong Phuong, born on January 21, 1995, is a professional football player from Vietnam, currently playing as a forward or attacking midfielder. He is known as one of the outstanding talents in Vietnamese football and is often referred to as the Vietnamese Messi due to his playing style and physique (Nguyen, 2024). Cong Phuong was born in My Son, Do Luong, Nghe An. He began his football career at the HAGL Arsenal JMG training center, where he developed his skills and became one of the most promising young players in Vietnam. After impressive performances in youth tournaments, Cong Phuong was called up to the national team and quickly became one of the brightest stars in Vietnamese football (Nam, 2024). Where did it all begin?
Tumblr media
The story will be nothing to talk about; on the contrary, Cong Phuong is truly a pride of Vietnam as he can be one of the rare players who can play for other countries as well as learn to return and share experiences and contribute to the country. Yet, just through a post, a farewell tribute from the coach of Yokohama FC, he seems to have become the focus of a joke for the entire social media community of Vietnam.
Tumblr media
The original farewell message from Yokohama is as follows: “Cong Phuong, who has stood by us for about a year and a half, will leave the team. The players all cherish Cong Phuong's personality and will greatly miss the fragrant coffee he used to brew in the locker room.” Not only that, Cong Phuong has also been chosen by Yokohama FC as the face of coffee products in the team's home appliance brand “Route to Dream.” The products co-produced by Cong Phuong and Yokohama FC include cups, aprons, coasters,… Furthermore, his image is also associated with advertisements for fried chicken.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Besides the story of making coffee, the memes about Cong Phuong also show that he has not succeeded at Yokohama FC. In two seasons, he has only played 3 times, totaling 85 minutes, without scoring or assisting, and has only received one yellow card. This achievement is much lower than that of other Vietnamese players like Quang Hai (Pau FC - France) or Van Hau (SC Heerenveen - Netherlands), who are also not considered successful when playing abroad (Tuan Anh, 2024). Perhaps it is also because of being praised by Yokohama for his drink mixing skills while he was called up to the national team for training and competition that Cong Phuong has become a laughingstock for his fans.
What are the jokes of the online community?
A series of meme images of Cong Phuong have also become a hot search after Yokohama's post; it seems that the online community has associated him with images related to selling chickens and making coffee.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A multitude of images from the online community with the wordplay of Vietnamese people is incredibly diverse and almost has no endpoint.
There are also many videos and images on various platforms of Cong Phuong.
Are these jokes really funny or is this just a way to suppress the community?
It seems that netizens are making jokes about his cooking and frying chicken, forgetting that he has brought many glories and victories to Vietnam. Nguyen Cong Phuong has scored many important goals for the Vietnam national team, especially in the 2013 U19 Southeast Asian Championship, the 2018 U23 Asian Championship, and the 2022 World Cup qualifiers (LDXH, 2024). Moreover, in the 2018 Asian season, he was the top scorer.
Tumblr media
However, after all, the online community seems to have no interest in his glorious victories, but what they care about are the difficult and declining phases of Cong Phuong, which they use as a joke. It seems that after all the contributions of the player, what remains in the memory of netizens are the mocking memes of him.
It can be said that Nguyen Cong Phuong deserves to be recognized as a symbol of Vietnamese football, not only for the achievements he has made but also for the dedication and passion he has for this sport. Instead of focusing only on the difficult moments, let us remember and honor the victories, the important goals he has brought to the country. The support and respect from the community will be a great motivation for Cong Phuong to continue to develop and contribute to Vietnamese football in the future. Let the jokes not overshadow the image of a football star who has brought much pride to the nation.

Proven track record of success in professional football.
Nathan Noël Romejo Tjoe-A-On, born 22 December 2001 is a professional footballer who plays as a left-back, center-back or midfielder for EFL Championship club Swansea City. Born in the Netherlands, he plays for the Indonesia national team.
Tjoe-A-On was signed to a three-year contract with Excelsior in 2019, after developing through their youth system. However, injuries stunted his development and he lost around 14 months of playing and training time. After the 2021–22 winter break he returned to action and gained confidence in his ability and felt able to do himself justice on the football field again.
Following their promotion from the Eerste Divisie at the end of the 2021–22 season he received a contract extension in June 2022, for an additional two years. He made his Eredivisie debut for Excelsior on 12 August 2022 against SC Cambuur at Cambuur Stadion in a 2–0 victory. On 9 September 2022, he scored his first professional league goal, helping Excelsior to a 2–1 win over FC Emmen.
In October 2023, reports in Indonesia suggested that Tjoe-A-On was invited to play internationally for the Indonesia national football team through naturalization. On 12 October 2023, Tjoe-A-On watched and talked directly with PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir and Indonesian President Joko Widodo when the Indonesian national team hosted Brunei Darussalam in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium.
On 7 March 2024, Tjoe-A-On received a call-up to the Indonesia national team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers match against Vietnam on 21 March and 26 March 2024. On 21 March 2024, he made his international debut for Indonesia in a 1–0 win against Vietnam.
In April 2024, Tjoe-A-On was named in the Indonesia U23 final squad for the 2024 AFC U-23 Asian Cup held in Qatar. He was initially only allowed to play in the group stage and returned to the Netherlands afterward. However his club Heerenveen eventually let him return to Qatar and play in the quarter-finals.
𝗗𝗜𝗦𝗖𝗟𝗔𝗜𝗠𝗘𝗥
Due to the X new rules and policy, I would like to declare that this account is just for roleplayer purpose only. I’m not the real Nathan Tjoe-A-On, I don’t have any connection to the real one. Thank you.

Amit Elor vs. Joye Levendusky | 2023 Final X Round 1
More from Final X. If you are looking to get into wrestling and are looking for the next "face" of USA Wrestling, then look no further than 19 year old Amit Elor.
Elor exploded onto the senior level in 2022, winning both the U23 World championships and the senior world championships at 72kg. If you want an idea of how dominant she was on that run, she gave up 4 points combined through two tournaments. And she only failed to pin or tech one opponent, 2021 champion Masako Furuichi.
Point being, Elor is GOOD and I'm excited to see more of her when the next world championships come around. Also she's a BJJ purple belt.

I remember in 2022 with England and Aaron ramsdale they were looking at their fifa cards. I’m not even sure Mason had ever had 78 (maybe at his Chelsea u23 days 😭) His scores kept rising until last year when he dropped from 84 to 81 and now he’s had 78. I wonder if he really cares
I remember that video 🤣
I'd say the only stat on the card that bothers him is the physical one, he's definitely been working on that last few years 😂
