Lucien’s from a small fishing village that was destroyed by raiders. By pure luck she was out late far into the forest (she’d been in a fight with her father and was trying to prove a point) and ending up being the sole survivor.

Her father escaped the underdark and stumbled into her mother, who helped him out and took him back to her village. He always made a point to try and be as kind and gentle as possible, and treasured his family. She looked up to him a lot.

As a teen she saw returning to such an idyllic peaceful life as her ultimate goal, and eventually this idea of a “good” life morphed into being the embodiment of 1) successfully becoming a “good” person 2) things returning to how they were before everything and 3) making up for not dying with everyone in her village but more specifically with her parents. (This did Not go well for her. As you can probably imagine)

Tw: child abuse.

Tyri’s family was horrible. He had an older brother, two younger siblings, and intensely emotionally and physically abuse parents. His parents fostered tension and distrust between their children which ended up with Tyri being mistreated by their older brother, who specifically disliked him because of how much he ratted his actions out to their parents. Tyri ended up finally escaping after a particularly bad incident where they threatened to lock him up.

He both hates and goes to extreme extents to avoid the constant lack of control, fear, helplessness and humiliation that he had to deal with in his childhood.

His family is still alive. He doesn’t kill his parents and older brother out of a myriad of mixed, confused emotions, the primary one being a lingering fear. He’s very much not ‘over’ the trauma, and he feels humiliated by this and admits it to no one. Instead he opts for killing people he thinks are just like his abusers, which initially starts as just killing abusers and… starts to slip.
