Used Worm Man week as an excuse to finally finish these wips of a gem Zedaph and Worm Man redesign that have been sitting in my folder half finished (okay more than half finished) for months. (since mid to late august)
I made these two to be the same gem (ie, Zed is Worm Man, inverts gem to disguise, lie about gem type), but you can also just ignore Zed's weapon and treat them as two separate entities that happen to look similar since -gestures to pyropes hessonites and Garnet-
Version with notes featured below the cut
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After designing my own Evil X and Xisuma gem designs, I decided I wanted to look at my zed/wm design again. I wasn't as happy with kinda just making another gem that didn't exist, so went looking for an existing gem that might fit better. And then I remembered the Morganite sketch.
Originally there was going to be a story about the ruby and pearl that make Rhodonite, and the morganite that owned them, but the story was cut. That being said, we did get sketches of her (i think there were like 2). Sketches aren't final of course, but it was the best I had. And I absolutely ran with the fact that she was designed in a kimono.
I started with Worm Man's design, running with the idea that 'wait, a kimono is japanese, the japanese version of a hero is a magical girl!!!' (yes i know that's not actually the case super sentai, kamen rider, etc) So bam! put him in a skirt! The weapon was also designed to be magical girl esque, which is why i say to give Zedaph another weapon if you want them to be different.
Also, if you want any lore, my one bit of potential lore is that since Zed is a morganite, which we know is an elite gem, it could be that he owned a certain trio consisting of a bismuth, carnelian and topaz. But he definitely treated them more as friends than underlings bc being elite is booooring. He wants to do stuff!
Oh and also if you go along with my interpretation of the diamond authority in gemcyt, because of him doing redstone and his whole s8 science thing, gem him really wished he were part of Blue's court.

I just thought of a question about steven universe and fusions. Ok so Rebecca sugar has said that all fusions have a single gem equivalent, I don’t remember where she has said this though, and this is something we see in the show (kind of). We see the gems fuse into obsidian and in Steven universes future we snowflake obsidian. Plus when blue diamond is talking to Steven about the party and Steven mentions Garnet blue says “does that call herself a garnet? What would you have her do enter with the Demantoids? The Hessonites, the Pyropes?” All of which are types of garnet.
So my question is could their be a fusion that’s a diamond? I don’t mean a fusion between 2 of the diamonds but a fusion between non diamonds that ends up being a diamond.

HI ‼️‼️
can i get uhhhh help w a ydau and wdau for a second??
for the ydau, i need fusions between yellow diamond + a demantoid, yellow diamond + a rose quartz (not PD), yellow diamond + yellow spinel and yellow diamond + a default version of blue pearl - yellow is undercover as mali garnet btw
i also need help w the demamtoid's components (rubies n sapphires are roleswapped in the au if that helps lol)
for the wdau, i need a few ideas on a multicolored quartz white can go undercover as
as well as fusions between that quartz and
-a hessonite
-a flint
-a default version of pink pearl
Yeah absolutely!!
Yellow + Demantoid = sphene, parti sapphire
Yellow + a Rose Quartz = tangerine quartz, honey stone
Yellow + Yellow Spinel = golden beryl, yellow calcite
Yellow + Blue Pearl = green moissanite, fuchsite?
Ahh, so you would like the Demantoid to still be a Ruby + Sapphire fusion, but with different types of corundum?
Demantoid = green sapphire + ruby, yellow sapphire + blue sapphire?
For the WD!AU could you explain what 'default version' means before I give my answer?
Other than that:
I feel like White Diamond could make a decent Iris Agate, Rainbow Quartz, or Herkimer Diamond?
IA, RQ, or HD + Hessonite = rainbow scapolite, rainbow pyrite, welo opal
IA, RQ, or HD + Flint = rainbow moonstone, rainbow hematite, opalite?
IA/RQ/HD + Default!Pink Pearl = angel skin opal, (pink?) moissanite, perhaps scallop pearl?

Hello! :D
I have another basic question for you, though, as always, I made it more complicated than necessary.
What are your & the Dorfs’ favorite gemstones? Top 5 overall categories, whether by color or by type. (Ex: Pink gems, green gems, white gems, purple gems, & multicolored gems for color or garnets, pearls, diamonds, amethysts, & emeralds for type.) Note, it is an option to choose both kinds of categories. (Ex: Blue gems, garnets, jades, red gems, & quartzes.)
And 3 specifics within each of those categories. (Ex: Star sapphires, larimars, & aquamarines for blue gems. Pink pyropes, tsavorite, & hessonite for garnets. Jadeite, nephrite, & chalcedony for jades. Rubies, carnelians, & fire opals for red gems. Amethysts, rose quartz, & citrines for quartzes.)
For instance, I love most any purple or blue gemstones, opals, moonstones, & abalone shell. For specifics, I love magenta pyropes, amethysts, & ametrine for purple gemstones. Aquamarines, labradorites, & chrysocolla chalcedony for blue gems. Rainbow opals, Mexican fire opals, & Australian opals for opals. Pink moonstones, blue flash moonstones, & rainbow moonstones for moonstones. And, finally, Haliotis sorenseni, Calliostoma annulatum, & Tegula brunnea for abalone shells.
This is a good one! I am partial to my birthstones, which are Opal and Rose Quartz. Opals are gorgeous, and come in such a stunning array of colors and vibrancy. Dragons Eye Opal and Fire Opals are def high tier on my list. Rose Quartz I like for the story behind it, that it helps with healing and love. Its a softer Pastel pink, which is nice.

Okay so hear me out. I wanna do something.
(Click stuff for better quality)
I’ve always been fascinated by the interactions of Jasper and Steven in Future, and how removed they are from their own characters. I know that because of cooperate meddling and time-constraints, we never get to see that interaction play out much longer than what we get. I always wondered if they went back to make amends after the events of "I Am My Monster", because Jasper is actually concerned about following Steven for protection, has moved into little homeschool, and Steven actually took her concern to heart, even if she destroyed a wall to convey it. The gap between them has closed and there are no voiced words of apologies between what happened in “Fragments", leading me to believe they already happened in the big time gap we have between e19 and e20.
The characters are foils to one another, but they do line up in ways that I kind of want to write about? Draw about? I dunno. I know it’ll take me forever and a half if I even go through with it but I want to throw this into the void.
Tumblr media
I’ve seen lots of Jasper-Steven fusions, but I wondered about a stable one. "Pink Onyx" or just "Onyx" is the chosen name/gem, keeping in the silicate family. Jasper’s rank as a solider and Steven’s rank as a diamond makes me think a native Onyx is like an Agate, but strictly for military groups, likely along with, or directly under, the hessonites/pyropes/demantoids. Onyx as a gem also happens to be similar to an agate and only differs by the nature of its striping, which I thought was cool.
Tumblr media
So yeah have some stuff I have been pondering. Might do something with it one day soon.
Stats and info under the break for curious folk who wanna know that stuff:
Gem type: Onyx
Gem locations: Navel, nose bridge
Height: 2 teen Stevens tall, or as tall as Steven sitting on Jasper’s shoulders [about 11ft]
Eye color: Maroon
Pronouns: Fluid depending on who is in control. Would answer to anything. Stable fusion is a they/them
Weapon(s): 2 Bagknakhs which double as shields, size can be adjusted, used on primary pair of arms as fist weapons.
Voice quality: Gravely, masculine, mid to low octave range when stable. Two-tone Jasper/Steven when not stable
Powers: Can do everything a Jasper and a Steven can do. Focusing more on powers brought out during their time together in the woods, like super speed and strength, levitation, ect. Diamond durability against destabilizers and healing abilities. Can be assumed to have healing spit and tears, too. Heightened melee combat skills. Their existence is a power all its own.
Weaknesses: 25% human, so gotta do human things 25% of the time. Competitive and reckless, excitable. Instability in the fusion makes it intensely risky to use and even more difficult to maintain for a fight if it mattered. If Steven has a panic attack/pink episode, so does the fusion. Components in-fight more than they cooperate.

Gemglyph Brainwaves
OMG it's me again!! So, I've been bubbling and boiling. @multiversetravelingjournalist had some brainwaves I really liked, although trying to put verbs in a tense that isn't relative to time is like trying to think of a new color for me (I don't understand it yet :(
For multiple points they made, the Gem (lightform) and Gem (little crystal thang) being two separate words was great. I am endlessly appreciative for that idea (I feel like I've been staring at the word 'noun' for far too long now). Also had me thinking of how to do the background hum in a way that makes me feel certain about stuff. Maybe as a way to mark formality, importance, stuff like that, depending on the word type being used. Reason for this is because the hum is more like a slider than something worthy of a character. In Steven Universe, Gems address their higher-ups possessively. Example: My Diamond, my Emerald, my Hessonite, etc. So perhaps possessiveness shows a sort of fond regard, I'll-do-stuff-for-you kind of thing. So like, if a Gem regarded a ship as 'my ship,' that means the ship is of high value to them, so they want to put effort into it.
There's also a few other ideas I jotted down. Honestly, I'm posting these because I don't see the harm in it. Hearing if ideas are good or bad from more experienced langconners is great. Idea #1: Gems ALWAYS specify the amount of something. If they do not know exactly, they give a rough guess, followed by a word for "roughly" "around" etc. Why? Because they are little AI computer people and they are technical in their existence. Idea #2: The whole background pitch thing could be used not just for formality, but for length of time, too. Like, when speaking about a noun, formality would be used. When stating a verb, the pitch can be used to indicate how far forwards or backwards this is occurring, or if it is actively happening. Idea #3: (look at images posted below) Certain characters can overlap to kind of make double-toned "new" characters. This idea came from Japanese, with characters like きゃ. Idea #4: Building off of idea 3, bell tones, which endure for a solid moment, are ALWAYS overlapped by another character. This is just there because it can be.
Tumblr media
This is meant to be the alphabet (again, still in heavy workshop). I finally sat down, listened to tones online, and compiled a list of them that seems good. Then I doodled down basic place marker characters. Each 'instrument' got a different 'genre' of characters. The little flip thing in the top right means it changes which side its horizontal orientation depending on which side it sits on. The big symbols above the lines are the bell tones, and the lines are me actively struggling with the sustained tones. I know, I'm great.
Tumblr media
This is a substance-less mock sentence, to demonstrate the idea of how writing could work. Each word bounces to the other side of the line, there are double-tones, and it ends with a big dot. Dare I say, a period.
Anyways, I need to step out of my brain for a second and think of actual words to help form the base of this language. My head has just been clogged because learning the fundamentals of language construction is still sending me for a ride. This is cool kid, signing out! (if anyone has suggestions please PLEASE-)

what if types of garnets have subgroups determining what they do:
pyralspite garnets(pyropes/almandines/spessartines/rhodolites) are all aristocratic garnets
grossular garnets(hessonites/leuco garnets/tsavorites) do planet conquering and military rule
andradite garnets(demantoids/melanites/topazolites) are in charge of working class gem colonies
there are a few not of those groups(calderite/goldmanite/uvarovite) so they might do things that don't fall under those particular categories
Oh i had no idea there were subgroups of Garnet. I got way to past the idea already with my current designs but thanks for the info. I am planning on creating groups of three garnets that balance each other out just like Hessonite, Pyrope and Demantoid were.

i theorized that the garnets have different roles based on their types like pyralspites(pyropes, almandines, spessartines) are aristocratic while grossulars(hessonites, leucos, tsavorites) are militaristic and andradites(demantoids and others) being in charge of worker class gems. this doesn't account for all garnets and could very well be way off lol
Yeah! It sounds great!

Spike possess brown eyes that could remind someone of the dark reaches of space, mysterious and deep with touches of frigid starlight. while there are rare moments they might emit some type of warmth similar to the hard taste of Bourbon, sunlight hits them, within Amber glows cold as ice that clinks in his glass. it's not easily noticeable by first glance, but if you look hard enough, taking the time to truly catch a glimpse when the light hits right, you'll see how his right eye reflects a different shade of reddish brown ( hessonite ) - a fake eye, implanted due to an accident that occurred while a member of the syndicate.
Tumblr media
Niah got brown eyes similar to fertile soil, rich and deep that brims full of life where love shimmers in their dark depths -the smell of wet earth as rain pitter patters upon the ground. and the trickle of tears makes them glimmer, gems like Zircon and Enstatite that dazzles one's perception. afternoon sun creeps in-between the blinds, sweeps over them where they appear as Coffee mixed with cream, spoonful of Honey, enriches the flavor where fondness is cultivated.

Hessonite from the Jeffrey Mine in Québec, Canada! This beautiful gemstone is a type of garnet that is known for its striking orange-brown color and unique crystal structure. It gets its name from the Greek word "hesson," meaning "inferior," because it was once thought to be a less valuable form of garnet. However, its unique color and rarity have made it a highly sought-after gemstone among collectors and jewelry enthusiasts.
The Grossular Garnet var. Hessonite from the Jeffrey Mine is particularly prized for its exceptional quality and beautiful color.
:- specimen measures 8.5 × 6.7 × 3.0 cm and is a true standout among other gemstones. If you're a fan of geology, minerals, or just appreciate the natural beauty of the earth

How to Choose the Best Garnet Jewelry for Your Skin Tone
Garnets are gemstones that exude elegance and versatility. From deep reds to vibrant oranges and even green varieties, garnets are truly diverse in their color spectrum. Choosing the right garnet jewelry for your skin tone can elevate your overall appearance, enhancing your natural beauty. This article will guide you on how to select garnet jewelry that complements your skin tone, making you shine even brighter.
Tumblr media
Understanding Garnet Varieties
Before diving into the specifics of skin tones, it’s essential to understand the different types of garnets. Garnets come in a wide array of colors, each offering a unique appeal.
Pyrope Garnet: Known for its deep red color, pyrope garnet is one of the most popular types used in jewelry.
Almandine Garnet: This type has a slightly darker red hue, often with a hint of brown.
Spessartite Garnet: Spessartite is famous for its vibrant orange to reddish-orange color.
Grossular Garnet: Ranging from green to yellow, grossular garnets include varieties like Tsavorite (green) and Hessonite (brownish-yellow).
Andradite Garnet: Includes the rare and highly valued Demantoid, known for its emerald-green color.
Uvarovite Garnet: This variety is known for its intense green color, though it’s rarely used in faceted jewelry due to its tendency to form in small crystals.
Determining Your Skin Tone
To choose the best garnet jewelry, you must first determine your skin tone. Skin tones are generally categorized into three groups: warm, cool, and neutral.
Warm Skin Tones: Characterized by yellow, golden, or olive undertones. People with warm skin tones often tan easily and may have veins that appear greenish.
Cool Skin Tones: These have pink, red, or blue undertones. People with cool skin tones tend to burn rather than tan, and their veins often appear blue or purple.
Neutral Skin Tones: A mix of both warm and cool undertones. People with neutral skin tones can often wear a wide range of colors.
Choosing Garnet Colors for Warm Skin Tones
If you have a warm skin tone, garnet jewelry with warm hues will complement your complexion beautifully. The goal is to choose garnets that enhance the golden or olive undertones of your skin.
Spessartite Garnet: The rich orange and reddish-orange tones of Spessartite garnet perfectly complement warm skin tones. This vibrant color brings out the warmth in your complexion, creating a harmonious and glowing appearance.
Hessonite Garnet: The brownish-yellow hues of Hessonite garnet blend seamlessly with warm skin tones. This garnet variety adds a subtle yet sophisticated touch to your look, making it an excellent choice for everyday wear.
Pyrope Garnet: The deep red color of Pyrope garnet can also work well with warm skin tones, especially when it has a slight orange tint. This classic color provides a striking contrast without overpowering your natural complexion.
Choosing Garnet Colors for Cool Skin Tones
For cool skin tones, garnets with cool undertones will be your best bet. These gemstones will enhance the natural pink or blue undertones of your skin.
Almandine Garnet: Almandine garnet, with its dark red and slightly brownish hue, is an excellent choice for cool skin tones. The deeper red colors can bring out the pink or red undertones in your skin, creating a bold and beautiful contrast.
Rhodolite Garnet: A type of garnet with a purplish-red color, Rhodolite garnet complements cool skin tones by adding a touch of warmth without clashing with your complexion.
Demantoid Garnet: Although green, Demantoid garnet is cool enough to work well with cool skin tones. Its vibrant green color can enhance the bluish undertones of your skin, adding a fresh and lively touch to your appearance.
Choosing Garnet Colors for Neutral Skin Tones
Neutral skin tones have the flexibility to experiment with a wide range of garnet colors. You can wear both warm and cool garnets with ease, allowing you to choose based on personal preference or the specific look you want to achieve.
Tsavorite Garnet: The bright green color of Tsavorite garnet looks stunning against neutral skin tones. This vibrant hue adds a fresh and modern twist to your jewelry collection.
Rhodolite Garnet: Rhodolite garnet’s balance of red and purple makes it a versatile option for neutral skin tones. It offers just the right amount of contrast without being too overpowering.
Spessartite Garnet: With its orange-red hue, Spessartite garnet can add warmth and vibrancy to neutral skin tones. This gemstone is perfect for adding a pop of color to your ensemble.

Garnet Jewelry Styles for Different Skin Tones
Apart from the color of the garnet, the style of the jewelry can also play a significant role in complementing your skin tone. Here are some tips on choosing the right style:
For Warm Skin Tones: Gold settings are an excellent choice for warm skin tones. The yellowish hue of gold enhances the warmth of your skin, creating a cohesive and luxurious look. Consider garnet rings, necklaces, or earrings set in gold to accentuate your warm undertones.
For Cool Skin Tones: Silver or white gold settings work best for cool skin tones. These metals have a cooler appearance, which pairs beautifully with the cool undertones of your skin. Garnet jewelry in silver settings will provide a sleek and elegant contrast that highlights the gemstone’s color and your complexion.
For Neutral Skin Tones: Neutral skin tones can carry off both gold and silver settings. Depending on your outfit and the occasion, you can choose either metal to complement your garnet jewelry. Rose gold is another great option, as it combines the warmth of gold with a hint of pink, adding a soft and romantic touch.
Matching Garnet Jewelry with Your Wardrobe
Choosing garnet jewelry that matches your skin tone is essential, but so is pairing it with your wardrobe. The right combination of clothing and jewelry can make all the difference in how the garnet appears.
Warm Tones: If you have warm skin tones, consider pairing your garnet jewelry with earth-toned clothing such as browns, yellows, oranges, and greens. These colors will harmonize with your garnet jewelry and create a unified, stylish look.
Cool Tones: For cool skin tones, opt for clothing in shades of blue, purple, and grey. These colors will enhance the cool undertones in your garnet jewelry, making both your outfit and your gemstones stand out.
Neutral Tones: Neutral skin tones can experiment with a broader range of colors. Try combining your garnet jewelry with both warm and cool clothing hues to see which combination you prefer. Black and white are always safe choices, as they allow the garnet to be the focal point.
Conclusion
Garnet jewelry is timeless and versatile, making it a wonderful addition to any jewelry collection. By considering your skin tone when choosing garnet pieces, you can enhance your natural beauty and ensure that the jewelry complements your overall look. Whether you have warm, cool, or neutral skin tones, there’s a garnet out there that will make you shine. Remember to also consider the metal setting and your wardrobe to create a cohesive and stunning appearance. With these tips in mind, you’re ready to select the perfect garnet jewelry that will make you look and feel your best.
