“And then -” Emily trailed off, causing to look away from his people watching. They had gone out for breakfast after Daniel might have neglected the adult responsibility of grocery shopping. It wasn’t his fault, he had a busy week and all the shops in this town closed at 5 for some reason. 

“Why are you frowning?” Hel asked, eyeing her carefully. He took a sip of his coffee while waiting for her to finish the text she was sending. His nose scrunched up as he contemplated spitting it out. How could people drink this crap daily? Did they hate themselves? Come to think about it, he had never seen a happy coffee enjoyer. 

“Soomin can’t make it,” she said, placing her phone back down on the table. Daniel nodded, pretending he knew which one of her friends was Soomin. Daniel couldn’t remember their names, there was grumpy, happy, rude and the boy one who gets all flustered anytime Daniel is around.  “You’re more than welcome to hang out with me,” Daniel offered. 

Emily pulled a face that suggested she would rather do anything else. “No offense but i’d rather just stay at home by myself then third wheel on one of your dates,” she said. Daniel scoffed, calling it a date was extremely generous of her.  “And before you say it’s not a date does Jason know that?” she added. 

“He should as if I would ever seriously date someone named Jason,” Daniel scoffed, offended by the mere idea. “And you know I am not interested in dating anyone right now,” he said. He would go on dates but that was it, he had no intentions of being distracted by a relationship, he had his career and raising Emily to focus on.  

“Either way I don't want to see what you two get up to in a movie cinema,”  Emily shrugged.

“Don’t be gross, I have standards,” Daniel pouted. Emily raised an eyebrow, eyes twinkling as she took a sip of her milkshake. “This new school is making you mean,” Daniel said, he really should have sent her to that all girls academy. “Anyway I could cancel my not date, we could go to the movies - I think Caleb has a new movie out,” he said.

“Daniel,” Emily started. 

“It would be fun,” Daniel cut her off, “Lets go,” he said, leaving his half drunk coffee behind and snatching Emily up. 

“The movies aren’t even opened yet- “ Emily whined reaching to grab her purse. “I am beginning to think you don’t like this Jason guy,” she laughed. 

“I like him enough,” Daniel said, he was hot but ultimately forgettable, the perfect mix. . “But you are more important,” he cooed, pinching her cheeks laughing as she swatted his hands away, rolling her eyes and grumbling about how embarrassing he is but not protesting about leaving which he would count as a win.

“Aren’t you going to message Jason,” Emily asked as they headed over to the cinema, Daniel rolled his eyes pulling his phone out of his pockets looking through his messages, did he save him under his name or - 

“Emily! Hey!” Daniel frowned, Jason could wait. He looked up to find that boy, Lucas running across the road. Oh what Daniel would give for a bus to speed round the corner right now. Unfortunately the road was and remained completely empty. Maybe if they ignored him, he would get the hint.

Unfortunately his cousin liked doing charity and stopped in the middle of the footpath. He thought he had raised her better, you don’t stop in the middle of a footpath. Did she even consider the other (non existent) people walking as well? You especially don’t stop for this good for nothing boy.

“Hey,” Lucas said to Emily, grinning at her like some sort of lunatic. Disgusting. “How are you?”Daniel scoffed at that what a basic question. 

“I’m good,” Emily said. Daniel nodded, she was good because she was with her favorite cousin and it was also a good answer because it left no room for conversation. He supposed he should be concerned about his cousins lack of conversational skills but he is choosing to believe she didnt want to talk this guy.

“Anyway we have to get -”

“Lucas hurry up,”  Daniel bit back a groan as he saw Lucas’s friends on the other side of the road calling out to him. He wasn’t not in the mood to deal with them today - no that wasn’t fair, he liked M and no issues with his girlfriend. It was the rest of them he couldn’t stand, Mr Bigamy and his sister wives. Unfortunately he was the one crossing the road, where was that god damn bus?

“Oh it’s you,” Bigamy said, sounding more annoyed then he had the right to be. If anyone should be annoyed it was Daniel, he is the one whose morning had been disturbed by this man’s presence. “Lucas lets go,” he said. It was the first intelligent thing this man has ever said. 

“Yes Lucas leave,” Daniel said. 

“Are you busy?” Lucas said, ignoring both Daniel and the other guy. The audacity. It was one thing to ignore his insane friend but what the hell? Did he not know to respect his elders?

“Daniel and I were going to -” Emily started to speak.

“See they are going,” The other guy, Tyrion or whatever his name is, said rudely interrupting Emily mid sentence. 

“Oh we are going to that new Virtual Reality arcade -”  Lucas ignored him. Virtual reality arcade - why would Emily want to go to that, wasn’t that for losers who couldn’t handle the real world. 

“Did you not hear me?” Ty-something or rather said. Daniel quirked an eyebrow, he was surprised that he wasn’t used to being ignored. Surely it must happen to him all the time.

“If you aren’t busy you should come with us,” Lucas said to Emily.

“She is busy -” Tyler said trying to pull Lucas away from them. He was finally doing something useful. 

“Actually -” Emily said, Daniel whipped his head around to her. What did she mean actually, she was busy. Very much busy. Busy busy. “I was going to third wheel Daniel’s date- “ she said. Daniel nose scrunched up, it was not a date,

“Someone wants to date you? couldn’t be me,” Tyler said. Daniel raised an eyebrow, why was this thing commenting on his love life.

“Obviously,” Daniel said. “And Emmy i’ve told you, its not a date and you -” 

“What's not a date?’ M’s girlfriend, Jane, asked. Daniel cursed, the rest of their friend group appeared. M, Jane and one of Tyler’s girlfriends. The grumpy one. 

“Nothing,” Daniel said with a fake smile reaching out and trying to subtly move Emily away. “We were just leaving so you can do whatever it is -” 

“Well since there is no date you both should come with us to Virtual Reality thing - I don’t really care for it but M wants to check out his competition,” Jane said, ignoring everything Daniel said and invited them to the group hang out.

“They are busy,” Tyler interrupted before Daniel had a chance to say the same thing. Rude.

“But it would be good for Lucas to have someone to chat with since everyone is all coupled up, you know since Maude invited herself along because of you,” she said. Whichever girlfriend Maude was, Jane did not sound too fond of her.

“He can talk to Enzo,” The grumpy girlfriend, Daniel was pretty sure not Maude, spoke. Daniel nodded pretending he knew or cared what an Enzo was and resumed trying to move Emily along. 

“And Daniel has a date,” Tyler added. Could this guy ever say his name normally, it was only six letters it wasn’t that hard. 

“Great he can come, seriously anyone is better company than Maude and Julien,” Jane said. “All they do is moon over Tyler and Minah,” she said to Emily and Daniel. 

“How desperate Maude and Julien are is not my problem,” Daniel said with an eyeroll. “You know this virtual arcade might be a good time to talk to them about their romantic decisions, you could use it to show them the errors of their ways.” he said as both Tyler and Minah glowered at him.

“Maybe i could use it to show you what it would be like if your cousin started to date-” Jane leaned over to him and whispered as Daniel turned to glare at her. “Great, I am so glad you see it my way,” she grinned. 

“I didn’t -”

“Lets go, Tara said the line is super long,” Jane said, turning on her heels and leaving no room for argument. M looked at him sympathetically, given him a pat on the back before following after her.

Daniel Choi went live on vlive last night for the first (and second) time with some notable guests...

After last weekend's relationship reveal model and up and coming actor Daniel Choi seemed unbothered as he popped his vlive cherry last night. Daniel went live for the first time (and second time thanks to some “technical difficulties” ) to celebrate his permanent return to London living, well as permanent as the jetting star can be. Up until now Daniel has never used his account despite it being 3 years old (we are sure the accounts creation has something to do with his management team rather than the model himself)  so imagine ours (and a couple thousand subscribers) surprise when we saw Daniel Choi’s name pop up. We like so many people thought that perhaps his account but to our complete utter shock when we clicked on we saw Daniel Choi’s perfect face up, close and personal  - and we mean really close because he had somehow managed to zoom in on the tip of his nose. But with a little help from his beautiful cousin Emily (how is she not famous already? Accio why didn’t you not sign her)  we got a rather entertaining first vlive with plenty of cute cousins moments to remind us all that we will never as cool as the Choi’s as well as visit from best friend and model Joshua Jung (who is rocking that pink hair) as well as phone calls from his AMM (anyone else crying at the fact Daniel calls Dongwoo and Caleb mum and dad or the fact that he had no idea what Victoria’s Secrets was until Mia got cast. The second half was where it got really interesting after Daniel returned after accidentally ending the vlive he was joined by no other than his boyfriend quidditch star Tyler Lee. Fans of the pair were excited to see them interact and the two did not disappoint sharing funny stories and loving looks reminding us all that we will never be on their level.

If you’ve spent any time on the fandom side of the internet, you know just how popular shipping culture is. Ahead, we take a look at 15 fantasy celebrity couples from the IMPULSE! TV series we desperately wish were together. Most of these pairs are close friends, so with the right nudge, they could easily exit the friend zone and take their relationship to the next level. 15.  Jane Durand & Antoine du Lapin

Although the pair were never a couple (despite the rumors), Durand has admitted that she thought the French rockstar was hot and that they made out several times while they prepared their collaboration single ‘Enfance 80’. In addition, Antoine has stated that Jane has helped him get through his breakup with his on-and-off partner Anika Reynaurd (who is rumored to be jealous of the close bond between the two singers). With the recent news that Jane and her now ex boyfriend, Jaehyun Jung from Kpop boyband NCT have broken up after less than a year of relationship, there have been rumors circulating that one of the people Jane is leaning on post-split is Antoine!

14. Tyler Lee & Maude Olivier

Olivier and Lee are two of music’s hottest pop sensations right now, so naturally, rumors would swirl that the two have dated. The singers first sparked rumors when Tyler featured on Maude’s summer hit ‘Señorita’.  Since then, they’ve appeared buddy-buddy together on social media and collaborated on more unreleased music. The two pop stars have spent much of their careers insisting that they’re just friends. However, since collaborating on the single ���Lean on me’ on 2019, Tara and Enzo have vehemently denied dating rumors. When reports came out that the two have been secretly dating since the recording of their song and even went on secret vacations to the French Riviera, Tara clapped back on Instagram, claiming that she hasn’t gone on a vacation in years —let alone a secret one with her new beau. Of course, that hasn’t stopped the public from inquiring about their relationship. In a recent interview with Dazed & Confused,  Tara called Enzo ”literally one of her best friends.” The two have also gone holiday shopping together and frequently appear on each other’s social media. There’s no confirmation that their relationship is romantic, but as many know, some of the best relationships blossom from friendships.

12. Jane Durand & Daniel Choi

Jane and Daniel have acted together in the six seasons of IMPULSE!, so naturally, they’re pretty close. It’s no surprise the two are often questioned about their too-close-for-comfort relationship, but they always shut dating rumors down. In an interview with People, Choi was asked when he and Durand were “going to start dating” "Never,” he replied. “It’s just not the kind of relationship we haVe.” Though the two seem adamant in keeping their relationship platonic, fans can’t help but ship the two after watching their playful interactions. But like Jane said in an interview, "it’s never going to happen.” Sigh.

11. Arabella Black & Haechan Lee

Black and Lee might seem like a random pairing, but the two actually have been shipped by fans for years. The singers became close after shooting NCT’s music video for ‘Summer 127’ and have shown off their blossoming friendship ever since. Fans started shipping them after the pair started leaving flirty comments on each other’s social media accounts that despite meant to be jokes, stan Twitter took way too seriously. In an interview, Ara called Lee a “bad influence.” "He’s a good guy, but he is a little bit of a bad influence,” she said, assuring that they’re nothing but very good friends who like to joke around. Either Arabella and Haechan are the best at trolling or there’s something going on between them. Anyway, they’re one of our fantasy couples.

10. Johnny Suh & Mark Yang

Both singers are members of the beloved boy band NCT. Although it is universally known that all of NCT members are extremely close to each other, fans have noticed how tight the friendship is between Johnny and Mark. Hard-core NCT fans have theorized that the two are secretly in love with each other and have dubbed the supposed relationship as “Johnmark”. These fans have spent many years chronicling and analyzing every micro gesture and millisecond of every interaction between both celebrities.

As of recently, there’s been a strong Twitter debate about whether Mark and Johnny are still close, after a series of stills taken by a fansite showed the two bandmates having a heated argument backstage of the Green Planet Festival. In a recent interview for MTV, Johnny dodged a question about Mark and many have assumed that the hype surrounding ‘JohnMark’ has affected the way the bandmates interact with each other. However, Yang himself squashed the rumors on a recent Instagram live where he referred to Suh as his “best buddy”

9. Sungjae Lee & Daniel Choi

Since they made fans swoon with their brief onscreen romance on IMPULSE! the internet has been desperately wanting Sungjae and Daniel to get together in real life. During the show’s six-season run, the pair played Elijah and Nathaniel, respectively. The onscreen couple was an instant favorite.  

While fans debated whether Elijah should have ended up together with Nathaniel instead of Mia at the end of the franchise, many began shipping Choi and Lee to be a couple in real life.  Though their palpable onscreen chemistry could be chalked up to good acting, fans still think that there have to be some feelings between the two and hoped that the two transitioned their onscreen romance to offscreen.

8. Minah Delacroix & Julien Toubeau

To be honest, we go back and forth on who we want to see Minah with more: former flame and longtime bestie Julien Toubeau or bandmate and onscreen boyfriend Sungjae Lee. Honestly, she can’t do wrong with either. However, fans of this ship have pointed out how the pair have toured together even before Minah joined the cast of IMPULSE! having known each other since they were both young stars and offering a lot of support during the beginning stages of their careers.

Our hearts broke when Toubeau revealed in a documentary last November that the sparks between him and Minah, his former girlfriend, never faded. “I’ve never loved anybody like I loved Minah,” he said, explaining that they mutually decided to be just friends because of their busy schedules. On the other hand, Delacroix also got giggly when discussing whether her song ‘boyfriend’ is about her longtime friend during an appearance on the Night Night Show last year. Although there’s no updated confirmation on their relationship status, we just want them to be happy and in love (preferably with each other).

7. Johnny Suh & Tara Lee

This star duo has been a rumored couple for months, but after Tara’s recent Vogue interview fans have started to theorize about Johnny’s supposed social media hints about said relationship while simultaneously pointing out that Johnny and bandmate, Mark Lee, seem to have grown apart recently.

Fans have been wondering if the photographic proof surfacing last February, when the supposed lovebirds were caught strolling hand-in-hand down a Caribbean beach, is to blame for said fall out between the NCT boys. Maybe it’s the idea of having a love triangle between two band members and one of the most beloved girls of the generation, or maybe we just want to know the juicy deets on the pop stars’ secret outings? No matter the reason, we ship it.

6. Minah Delacroix & Jane Durand

In the conspiracy theory community, those of us who believe that Minah is secretly dating her former co-star, group mate and best friend Jane Durand identify as Jannah shippers. Most fans assume that Jane’s latest single, ‘Crave you’, that features Minah, is about her latest beau Jaehyun Jung. But those of us in the know —experts in the field, really— believe that her song is about a woman (Jane) dating a man (Jaehyun) while secretly being in love with another woman (Minah).

The rumor of their affair first gained speed after a series of blurry photos, allegedly showing the two girls making out at an Always Ascending concert, emerged. Though none of them ever addressed the issue, fans insist that you don’t have to look far into Minah’s or Jane’s social media accounts to conclude that the two could theoretically be dating. The pair seem to have spent the holidays together, which obviously means they’re engaged by now. (An alternative explanation is that they’re friends, which is boring and not really worth intellectual exploration).

While their deep friendship is definitely #friendshipgoals, fans are waiting for the day Minah and Jane will finally get together. If that happens, the internet will officially break.

5. Jane Durand & Gabriel Dubois

Jane and Gabriel have been close friends since they starred in the fifth season of IMPULSE! together. It’s been a while since the show came to an end, but they’re still as thick as thieves, and we think it’s about time they move their relationship out of the friend zone. Though Durand is besties with Gabriel’s cousin, Minah Delacroix, it doesn’t seem like there’s a girl code when it comes to dating family members. Plus, Jane has been dropping hints that there might be something more between her and the actor. It’s widely believed by fans that Jane’s solo debut song ‘fwb’ which alludes to two friends hooking up, is about Gabriel. Keep your eyes peeled because Jabriel could be a thing.

4. Emily Choi & Lucas Zhang:

These two celebrities have caused several storms on Twitter for their cozy body language and antics during interviews while promoting their collaboration hit ‘Best Part’.  Choi and Zhang would often get caught on camera while exchanging several friendly taps and touches. In addition, Lucas’ constant mentions of Emily on social media has caused fans to question whether they are just close friends or if they are now a couple.

3. Tara Lee & Mark Yang:

The two celebrities have had a complicated friendship and relationship since they first met in 2017. Romance rumors surged after Mark famously professed his love for Tara as he presented IMPULSE! with the Best Group Award at the 2018 MTV Music Video Awards.

In a recent interview with Vogue, the IMPULSE! vocalist revealed that the two aren’t friends at the moment, but aren’t enemies either. Meanwhile, NCT’s Golden Boy has been spotted on dates with other women (including Tara’s groupmate Minah Delacroix) and has recently been linked to Mindy Park. While Mark and Mindy aren’t officially a couple yet, it has been claimed that Mark isn’t ruling anything out romantically with her either. The pair are not enemies like their on-screen characters in the IMPULSE! franchise: Nathaniel Park and Thomas Golding. “Finally a free day, without the guys,” Tara says holding a cup of steaming tea in one hand and the morning’s paper in the other, as she occupies her spot at the table’s head. Her statement is met with nods and words of approval from her group mates, who are already sitting on their assigned places, munching on a variety of French gourmandises and grooving to the background music playing from Tara’s phone.

We are family.

Tara makes a double take before taking a sip from her cup. Across the table Minah is still wearing her silk pajamas and has tied an Hermès scarf —that makes her look like she’s lounging at a spa in Marrakech— on her head. Sitting right next to her, Jane is clad in a yoga workout outfit, looking the most relaxed she has appeared in weeks as she reaches a bowl of cereal.

It’s a nice sight to witness, all things considered: the sleepless nights they’ve gone through the past couple of months, the nonstop hopping on planes, the stress from the tour... not to mention the unresolved tensions between some of the members hovering over the group like a dark cloud. A cloud no one Is brave enough to address.

It is nice. Very nice. Until Tara perceives the sound of the elevator coming up and she instinctively lets the newspaper slip from her hands.

Within a few seconds, the elevator doors open and Tara can see three men emerging from it. Two of them, the tallest ones, are dressed in bright silk shirts, dress pants and leather loafers; the other is wearing black ripped jeans and a white t-shirt that looks two or three sizes bigger than his actual size.

As per usual, the men —or at least Tyler and Daniel— are loud enough for everybody to hear them even from afar.

“Morning everybody” Daniel yells, causing Jane to wince and massage her temples as though she’s in pain.

“Here comes the sun!” Tyler walks behind him, singing the Beatles’ classic and humming what is meant to be the popular guitar bridge — that Daniel remarks  is missing a note. As the pair start bickering yet again, Sungjae rolls eyes.

“Why are you here?” Tara asks to the men, who are now pulling chairs to sit at the table, but her eyes are fixed on Minah as she pronounces the question.

Minah looks like she is pondering the effectivity of a fork as a murdering weapon when Tyler sits in the empty spot beside her, but ultimately she only lets a discouraged sigh and places the fork on the rim of the fruit bowl.

“We came to have breakfast with you guys and brought you coffee” Daniel explains naturally. He then shows the coffee carrier that had been wobbling precariously in his hand just few seconds ago, when he attempted to slap Tyler on the nape.

“How nice of you, guys and very generous of you to bring our coffee,” Jane says as they all sit at the table, her eyes slightly rolling when Sungjae takes the spot across her. “But this is our first free day in months” She adds matter-of-factly.

“And that’s exactly why we’re celebrating it together” Tyler says, pouring himself a glass of Minah’s Veuve Cliquot. Daniel and Sungjae nod vehemently at that and start picking food and drinks from the table.

“But what you guys are not getting is we don’t want to “celebrate” it together” Minah retorts calmly, drawing quotation marks as she says the word ‘celebrate’.

“Oh, wow…” Sungjae’s eyes widen at her words, but when he looks at her, she’s smiling nonchalantly. “Do you guys have other plans?”

“Ok, enough.” Jane says, trying to call Daniel’s attention, but he is too wrapped up in the task of pouring the perfect amount of orange juice for his mimosa to care. “We all know YOU guys have plans-”

“And you’re here only to eat our food for free” Tara adds, rolling eyes at how painfully obvious her brother and co. are. “You are so transparent”  she says picking the tiniest grape from her bowl and throwing it across the table, aiming at Tyler’s head.

“It’s not our fault you girls are acting like unhappy housewives, staying home to watch lame Mexican soap operas, read erotic novels and whatnot” Tyler verbally retaliates as he uses his flute of champagne to catch the flying grape before it hits Daniel.  When the grape lands inside the glass, spilling some of its content on the table, he smirks smugly and tilts his head, winking at his sister before raising the flute in a gesture of a toast.

“Hey! hey!” Jane complains, looking on the table for something suitable to throw at Tyler.

“We do have plans, so what?” Tyler goes on, looking at Minah in an obvious attempt to get her to join the conversation —if it can even be called that. However, the girl is completely unfazed as she grabs a spoonful of oats and shoves it into her mouth as though she is forcing herself to keep her comments in her mind only.

“So do we, so you better get going because you’re interrupting” Jane moves her hands like if she were shooing flies away.

“What are you guys doing today then?” Daniel chimes in after a long sip to his mimosa.  

“Interesting activities” Tara replies mysteriously.

“Me, a member of NCT, if everything goes according to my plans” Jane shrugs with pretended innocence, earning a round of disapproving groans from the Lee’s. She then stands up and ignoring the disgusted scowl on Sungjae’s face, grabs her assigned cup of coffee from the box the guys brought earlier. Before disappearing down the hallway in the direction of her room, she winks at Daniel as she passes by.

Living life is fun and we’ve just begun

To get our share of this world’s delights

“Are you doing a member of NCT as well, T? That’d make 3 of us in a row”

Tara doesn’t know if Daniel’s question is meant to be one of his ridiculous jokes or if he’s just trying to annoy her brother, but she decides not to play along.

“No. I am going to a workshop in East London” She says, throwing a grape at Daniel too. Unfortunately, the flying grape hits Sungjae on the eye this time, causing Tyler and Daniel to burst out in laughter despite the death glares the leader of the group is throwing at them “Oh my god, I’m so sorry Sungjae” Tara jumps from her seat to take a look at Sungjae’s eye. After he reassures her thrice and once she’s inspected the potential damage carefully, she also picks her cup of coffee and walks away. “Since you guys have so much energy, might as well do something productive and clean the table after you finish eating our food,” she says before a door closing sound lets them know she’ll be locked in her room for the next few hours.

“This is all your fault” Tyler recriminates, looking at Daniel accusingly.

“No, it’s not. It was YOUR idea to come here to drink Minah’s champagne” Daniel snaps back as he grabs a plate with French pastries in one hand and the mimosa glass in the other.

“Who forgot to ask Julia to restock the fridge?” Tyler gulps down the remaining champagne in a go and then mirrors Daniel’s moves, picking a bowl of fruit with one hand and his cup of coffee with the other.

“If only someone had not given her the day off without asking the rest first”

Minah and Sungjae sit in silence as the couple throws accusations back and forth, until they are gone and the only audible sound in the room is Tara’s phone still playing music in the background.

“Hey, Princess” Sungjae calls Minah with a pet name he’s used for so long Minah has almost forgotten it was actually meant to be sarcastic at first.

“Hey, dude” she replies, leaving the food aside and smiling at him fondly.

“Do you have plans for tonight?” He asks, placing his elbows on the table.

“Errrr… no” Minah replies trying not to look at him directly in the eyes. It is usually the only effective way of stopping her heart from making wild flips inside her chest whenever she’s left alone with Sungjae. Though it doesn’t seem to be working as much this time. “Not what you can call plans. Why?”

“Let’s go out for dinner, no?” Sungjae asks hopefully. There’s a brief moment of silence on which Minah is unable to hide her shock and her jaw drops involuntarily, but she recompaoses herself relatively fast “I mean… we’re barely here anymore, traveling nonstop, the tour, the fans… let’s chill”

“But-“ Whatever Minah had planned to say dies in her throat when something starts buzzing on the table, causing Sungjae’s attention to divert to the source of the distraction: her phone.

Without wasting a second, Minah picks the call, probably thankful something had interrupted the conversation.

“Hello? Luke?” Minah addresses one apologetic look at Sungjae and turns to the opposite side of the room. She misses the disappointment deflating his expression and the fact he’s still pretty much listening to her conversation. “How are you?” Minah speaks on the phone “Yeah, I’m great” there is a long pause, and then she asks “You mean your family is going to be there?” Another pause “No, sounds wonderful” and yet another “I’ll be there” then the sound of steps approaching to the table again “Me too, bye”

Minah looks equally parts excited and concerned “It was Luke, there’s this party tonight and he wants me to come so he can introduce me to his family”

“But I asked you out first” Sungjae says in a tone that makes it evident he’s just joking, but deep down he wonders to himself if he truly is.

“Yes, but you understand and you know how important this is for me” Minah laughs grabbing the remaining cup of coffee on the table.  “I need to tell Jane, see you, boy” Minah reaches to give Sungjae a high-five before exiting the room.

“Have fun” Sungjae says when Minah is already out of frame.

When Tyler walks into the lounge area of the guys’ apartment that night he is not the slightness bit surprised to find Daniel fixing his hair in front of the Baccarat full-length mirror he gifted him on his birthday.

“Eww, what’s with the fragrance?” Tyler asks with a low voice, standing behind Daniel and looking at him with an arched brow through the mirror. Tyler is just too close for Daniel’s liking and he has to accept he’s briefly startled by his presence, but once he notices the teasing grin curving Tyler’s lips, Daniel gives a step aside, turning to glare at him. “Is that pheromones perfume mixed with patchouli scent?”

Daniel is about to reply, most likely with the most cutting insult he can think of, but Tyler goes on. “Who’s the guy? Let me guess, he’s a-“ He puts on what is supposed to be a pensive expression “He’s a Buddhist, progressionist, alternative artist and animal right activist”

“He’s none of those things” Daniel replies dryly, picking his black leather jacket from the side table. “And don’t you have somewhere to be at? Maybe a date with some blonde bimbo whose pants you’re trying to get into?”

“You didn’t answer my question” Tyler insists.

“That’s none of your business, stop meddling,” Daniel says going through the stuff in his wallet.

And I don’t have the right

To ask where you go at night

“I’m just asking because… I can drive you, you know?” Tyler turns suddenly serious, going dangerously close to Daniel and placing a hand on his shoulder which makes Daniel tense up almost automatically.

“What?” Daniel spins on his heel to look at Tyler. And when he does he swears Tyler’s eyes briefly dart to his lips before staring into his eyes. It sends Daniel’s heart into a frenzy, but he still manages to keep a convincing unbothered façade.

“If you want to, of course…” Tyler trails off with a pretended nonchalance that Daniel doesn’t have the time to care about because Tyler is putting THE look on, that knee-weakening look, the one he always dreads because it seems that it has the power to destroy Daniel’s determination in a blink of an eye.

“What about your date?” Daniel's heart skips a beat when Tyler gives a step forward, blocking his way. “Are you gonna make her wait?”

But the waves hit my head

“First of all, it’s not a date” Tyler says, the stupid grin on his lips still fully present as he leans to pick his keys from the side table. Seconds later, Daniel finds himself trapped in between the table and Tyler’s body, who’s braced his hands on the edge of said table and is looking at him expectantly with a provocative little smile on the lips, waiting for a reaction maybe. But Daniel’s breath refuses to scape his mouth, he’s standing still, not giving into Tyler’s pretensions.  And second-“

Whatever Tyler is going to say next, Daniel never finds out. An annoying voice interrupts the moment calling Tyler’s name with the saccharine tone that can only belong to one person. Daniel thinks he might gag or choke on his own saliva. All the preparations for his date are probably going to waste because he might die before even making it to the elevator.

Tyler doesn’t even move an inch, but Daniel pushes one of his arms and reaches to grab his phone lying on the chair behind him.

“Ty, you’re ready yet?” Maude Olivier speaks from inside the elevator, her voice the tiniest bit impatient. Yet, she forces one of her signature disingenuous smiles. “Come on, we’ll be late for our reservation at Sketch” Maude says, causing Daniel to gulp furiously.

Did she just say Sketch? Sketch is supposed to be their —as in Tyler’s and Daniel's— special place. It is their thing to go there for cocktails in the East Bar before having dinner at the Gallery and then move into the ultra-exclusive space that The Parlour is for yet more cocktails and probably long make-out sessions in the dimly lit VIP room.

Tyler shots Daniel what he assumes to be an apologetic look, but he is not paying attention anymore.

And the lights, they glow

And the scene slips away

“Yes, Tyler, we’ll be late.” Daniel says pushing him forward in the direction of the elevator.

Maude looks positively confused when Daniel steps into the elevator behind Tyler.

“Just going to the lobby. I have a date too” Daniel says, exaggerating his excitement as he presses a button on the elevator panel with unnecessary force.

“Oh that’s great” Maude’s smile is so wide, it almost belies the glint of malice in her eyes. “With whom?”

“A painter,” he says as the elevator starts to move. “His name is Jaewon, he’s hosting an exhibition tonight”

“You mean Jaewon Park, the super famous artist?” Maude gapes at him and for once Daniel is thankful she’s opened her mouth to spill nonsense because out of the corner of the eye he can notice Tyler’s eyebrow going up.

“Yes, that Jaewon” Daniel nods with a cunning smile.

Tyler can’t help but let a loud scoff, but neither Maude or Daniel say anything about it because the elevator comes to a halt and the doors slid open, revealing a spacious hall decorated with beautiful French Louis XIII furniture and several glorious-looking arrays of flowers, and of course, Jane Durand clad in a Jacquemus slip dress and a fur jacket, looking disgusted at the sight of Maude.

“Olivier,” Jane says when she steps inside the elevator, the doors closing behind her. “Please tell me your obsession with Lee hasn’t got so pathologically concerning that you’ve moved into this building.”

Maude doesn’t reply, she only glares at Jane and moves to link arms with Tyler.

“And my favorite Gucci boy,” Jane adds wrapping an arm around Daniel’s shoulders. “You look ravissant” she compliments after giving him a head-to-toe look and nodding in approval. “What’s the occasion?” She inquires although she knows well where Daniel is going. If Tyler wasn’t fuming, he would notice the smirk on her lips and the obvious fact she’s just trying to get on his nerves.

“I’m going to Jaewon’s exhibit?” Daniel says confused. It’s not like he didn’t spend most of his afternoon at the girls’ apartment asking their opinion on his outfit of choice: white wide pants and a white Acne t-shirt tucked inside and accessorized with a Chanel brooch. The look completed with leather loafers, an YSL black belt and a leather jacket.

“Ohhh… the sexhibition” Jane smiles devilishly “Is it tonight?”

“Sexhibition?” Tyler repeats frowning, his voice dripping annoyance.

“Oh, didn’t you know?” Jane turns her head to look at Tyler’s face. She doesn’t want to risk missing his reaction when she tells him. “Jaewon paints nudes.” she pats Daniel’s back “And if our boy here is lucky tonight, he might as well become his new muse” she says grinning.

The first thing Minah hears when she steps into the Schroder family residence is her name pronounced by Luke’s 20-something twin sisters.

Only that “Minnie” is not her name, but a stupid pet name Luke’s grow fond of.

“I saw you on Vogue last month, so I recognized you tout de suite”  gushes the tallest one, dressed in a tacky magenta Jenny Packman dress, her French accent thick and her pronunciation wrong. Minah smiles and opens her mouth to introduce herself properly, but she’s interrupted.

“You looked a lot taller on TV though” the other sister comments, she looks at Minah with narrowed eyes and a scrunched up nose.

Minah only smiles at her gracefully, slightly biting the inside of her cheek to stop herself from responding in a not so graceful way.

“Oh, shut up, don’t you realize this is the first time she’s coming to a family gathering? She might get the wrong impression” Luke’s taller sister says, twirling a strand of her blonde hair around her finger.

“You must want to see my brother, right?” The shorter girl comments, pointing at a glass room few meters away from where they are standing. Minah spots Luke immediately, but she can’t quite control her expression when she notices he’s surrounded by an entourage of young, beautiful women. “He’s a tad busy right now, catching up with the cousins,” the sister says with a smile that reminds Minah of Nurse Ratched from One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.

“No, it’s ok” Minah says, her smile never fading.

“Oh, but we can show you around! There are hors d’oeuvre over there” Before Minah can react, she’s being dragged by the twins through the luxurious patio as they bombard her with questions about her celebrity diet, what being famous feels like and if she’s met Leonardo Di Caprio.

It’s only the start of an eventful night.

How was I to know?

On the opposite of the city Ashleigh, Sungjae’s girlfriend leads him down a set of stairs. It is windy and dark —although that might only be because Sungjae is wearing a blindfold and he can’t notice the torches lighting up the path to Ashleigh’s backyard.

“Walk straight, straight,” the woman says, mirth in her voice as she pulls Sungjae’s hand although his feet are not moving. “Sungjae, come on”

Reluctantly, Sungjae gives two or three little steps forward only for him to trip over the edge of a stair and nearly fall.

“Ashleigh, you said go straight. There was another step!” Sungjae complains, attempting to get free from Ashleigh’s hands so he can take the blindfold off. “This is ridiculous”

“I’m sorry babe, I didn’t notice,” Ashleigh says dismissively.

“Yeah, sure” Sungjae wishes his girlfriend would notice his unamused expression, but she just giggles.

“I’m sorry love” she pulls him against her body and wraps an arm around his waist.

Sungjae feels Ashleigh nuzzling her face into his neck.

“Don’t you trust me babe?”

“Of course I do”

“Then trust me on this one. You’re gonna love this surprise” She says as she presses kisses along the line of his jaw.

Sungjae sighs defeated. He never seems to be able to win an argument with his girlfriend. It is probably the fact she is irritatingly convincing and she has a way with words like every good psychologist. And she’s a great one, or at least that’s what the press reports. Sungjae doesn’t know because they never talk about her job. They just never talk. Point made by how quickly they’re both get caught in the moment, lips battling for dominance.

“No, Sungjae, no. It’s not that kind of surprise” Ashleigh says pulling away.

“Why the blindfold then?” Sungjae asks with a pout.

“Because I have a surprise” She replies, keeping her sultry voice almost as a whisper. “Come here”

I’m gonna have the strangest night on Sunday

Seconds later, when Ashleigh takes the blindfold off Sungjae, he is greeted by flying confetti, party horns, and the deafening “Surprise!” loudly yelled by a group of people he’s never seen before in his entire life. Confused and not knowing how to react Sungjae forces a smile and turns to Ashleigh.

“What is this?” He questions. His eyes blinking furiously, still trying to get used to the intense lighting in his girlfriend’s backyard.

“A surprise party?” She says as though his is the dumbest question.

“I can tell that” Sungjae retorts exasperated. “What for though? And most importantly who are these people?”

“These people are my friends, who are super excited to meet you” Ashleigh says through gritted teeth, when she notices her friends are starting to disperse throughout the garden.

There’s still an unanswered question, but Sungjae doesn’t have to ask again because the answer comes to him in the form of a banner hanging on Ashleigh’s window. “Happy Birthday Souljae”

“You came” Jaewon greets Daniel with a peck on the lips that is as inappropriate as it is unwanted, considering this is their very first date. Daniel nods his head and looks around, trying to figure out if someone witnessed the scene. Much to Daniel’s contentment, everybody seems to be busy checking Jaewon’s paintings to care about who the artist is kissing.

“Your paintings look incredible” Daniel tries to divert the conversation to a topic that’s not Jaewon’s eagerness and how uncomfortable it just made him feel, although calling his work “incredible” seems a bit of an overstatement.

“Thanks” Jaewon beams, wrapping an arm on Daniel’s shoulders in some kind of forceful one-armed hug. “Let me show you around. There’s something I want you to see”. He adds, slightly pulling Daniel with him as he walks through the gallery.

As Daniel admires Jaewon’s work on display, he truly hopes he is a better date than he is a painter.

HUMAN

It’s half past eight and Tara is still nowhere close to East London. Sitting in the back seat of a cab, anxiety racing through her veins, she recognizes yet another paparazzo driving past them.

The persecution started just as she left the apartment. Apparently someone had leaked the news about Tyler and Maude hanging out in her white convertible with the top down. Or that is what Tara believes, judging by the latest updates on the Gossip Star Twitter account. That explained the amount of paparazzi surrounding the entrance of their building when she hopped in the cab. What happened next is pretty self-explanatory, considering that Tara giving random directions to the driver resulted in them being stuck somewhere in South London.

“You know what? I’m already half an hour late for my workshop” Tara says to the middle-aged man behind the steering wheel. “Let’s just go back to where you picked me. This is beyond ridiculous, I am sorry I wasted your time” She says apologetically. She’s already resigned to always bear the brunt of her group mates’ doings.

The driver looks at her through the rearview mirror with a benevolent smile.

“It must be fate” He shrugs “A word in your ear before we go back, young lady. I work for the likes of you and leaks are inevitable. I have little doubt that news of your encounter with the paparazzi will be of common knowledge by tomorrow morning. If I were in your place, I’d rather make it worth.”

Tara is quiet for the next minutes, she just watches amused how the driver —looking beyond proud of himself— hums a song by the Human League after managing to lose the last car following them before reaching The Oval. That’s when Tara realizes how close they are to Saint James and with her heart suddenly pounding, she takes her phone and dials a number she’s not saved in her contacts yet, but she’s memorized by now. It is probably a mistake, but after the adrenaline inducing escapade from paparazzi, she’s feeling a bit adventurous tonight.

Tyler Lee and Daniel Choi shock the world with relationship reveal

In an era of express dating and abundance of non-confirmed relationships, Tyler Lee and Daniel Choi just gave the world a lesson on “How To Go Official.”

Probably two of the most eligible bachelors—until recently anyhow—It is not a secret that Tyler Lee and Daniel Choi have stolen the hearts of witches and wizards around the world. While the charismatic seeker has become one of the most successful quidditch players of all time, Choi has steadily built a career as a model and actor. After meeting as teenagers, the pair has continuously made headlines for their close friendship and supposedly brotherly bond.

The “friends,” however, stunned the world last night when they revealed—in the most memorable of the ways—their budding romance. Attending the IFQ World Player of the Year Gala together, Choi and Lee were caught cozying up to the other throughout the award ceremony. Much to the shock of fans, though, what appeared to be a demonstration of best friend antics, turned out to be a clue of the upcoming relationship reveal.

Though many believed the highlight of the night would be the announcement of this year’s “Snitch d’Or”—which Lee took home— what came next overshadowed nearly every moment of the night. Pan frowned watching as the rest of the lost boys gathered around the new prisoners, Slightly boasting about how he stole them right under Hook’s nose.  “Attacking like its hard to beat Hook,” Pan muttered to Tinkerbell whose alarmed chirps grew louder with each flutter of her wings. Pan shook his head, “We are going to let them go, “ he said with a roll of his eyes. “Lets go check them out,” he said before flying down, gesturing for Tinkerbell to follow. 

Usually when Pan graced his lost boys with his presences they all stopped what they were doing, shut up and starred at him with the awe he so rightly deserved but today the whispers continued. Not even whispers if he were been honest, they chatted loudly with no shame. 

“Shut up,” He yelled out, smirking as the chattering died down. Slightly let out a huff, an unimpressed look on his face. He could be unimpressed, Pan didn’t care, he never liked Slightly anyway. Always talking about what the real world was like, telling Pan that Pan wasn’t his name. Ofcourse it was. Who would ever want to be called Daniel? That was a stupid name. 

“What do we have here?” Pan said eyes jumping from prisoner to prisoner. What a strange bunch, no wonder Slightly managed to steal them from Hook. Hook probably didn’t want them anyway, stupid Slightly. 3 boys, one of them wearing a strange hat that Pan wanted to rip off his stupid head, a pretty boy lying completely still - dead? Already? What a waste. Another boy sat on the ground grabbing at his head muttering about how much it hurt? Thinking? Pan supposed it did hurt to think, he always hated to think about the past but this was pathetic. And lastly a girl, ofcourse Slightly would bring a girl back - no a mermaid, Pan’s eyes widened as a grin broke out onto his face. Mermaid were rare in these parts and he caught one. 

He was about to boast when Tinkerbell fluttered past checking on the boy who was hurting. “Tink, i already told you -”

“Cel-” the boy said causing Pan turn and look at him. Tinkerbell chirped happily, darting around the boy talking as if they were old friends. They couldn’t be, Tinkerbell was his fairy, she only existed because he exists. Hell Neverland only exists because of him.

“Tinkerbell, get away from them,” Pan growled stomping over as the pair ignored him. Ignoring him infront of his followers. He was the leader, how dare they?/

“Do I know you?” The guy asked. 

“Didn’t you say you were from the real world?” the man with the ugly hate said. The real world, Pan hated hearing about the real world. Bad things happened in the real world. 

“How old are you?’ Pan asked moving where Tinkerbell and other prisoner were. “All of you - expect for the dead one, how old are you?” he asked. They could be adults - disgusting.

“Don’t know time is different in Wonderland,” The hat boy shrugged. Wonderland? He has never heard of Wonderland.

“Twenty,” the other boy said as Pan’s eyes widened. An adult. 

“Kill him,” Pan said without a moment's hesitation. “Best if we kill them both, that way they can join their friend,” he added, nudging towards the pretty one. None of the lost boys moved causing Pan to growl, why weren’t they listening to him.  Even Tinkerbell was hovering protectively near the old one. Even the mermaid was trying to get out her pond, spouting whatever gibberish mermaids talked.

“He isn’t dead, “ the hat one said. 

“He isn’t breathing though,”  Tootles points out. “Pretty sure that means he is dead.” he continued.  Pan nodded in agreement, he seen plenty of dead bodies and none of them were breathing.

“Wonderland magic, The queen of hearts stole his heart,” Hat continued.  Pan raised an eyebrow, so he is very much dead and again with this Wonderland nonsense, there was Neverland and Hook’s ocean nothing else. If Pan didn’t know about it then no one does.  “And why is that one,” Hat boy nudged to Pan, “calling for our deaths?”

“Your adults, “ One of the twins called out. “Anyone over 18 is an adult “ the other added. 

“He looks older than me,” Hat boy called out. Pan huffed - idiot. Older than him, ha!

“No one is murdering anyone,” the other boy who was still very much alive for some reason called out. “Look i think there has been a misunderstanding,” he said.

“I don’t misunderstand anything, I am Pan, and i know everything” he said matter o’factly because that is the truth of the world. Neverland told him so. There was Pan and Neverland nothing else.

Mafia Au - Tier Ranking

Okay so lets start with arguably our most iconic au, the mafia au! yes were are just jumping into our darkest angsty au. So lets start!

first up is Miss Maude Olivier- Miss because she ain’t ever getting married, at least not to Tyler. So she was in this au probably as a w***e for Tyler, so for any Maude sleeping with Tyler is an accomplishment but does she add anything to this au apart from a child not really so for that she goes into the Stephanie Myers tier.

Now onto Tara  Lee - when i say mafia au tara is cultural reset i mean like we are just living in her universe at this point, she is a total badass in this au, doesn’t take shit , fakes her own death, comes back even more bamf and we love that for her. So for that she is going straight into Shakespeare level.

Now here’s Johnny, now in normal circumstances hooking up with your dead bestfriends ex girlfriend - fiancee? were they engaged i can’t remember but eh, anyway that would be awful but since it is the mafia au its okay. I can’t really remember what he does in this au other than hook up with tara so i am going to put him in the JK rowling tier just because he is better than Maude but no where near as important as our Shakespeare characters

M-  my sweet baby, honestly i can’t really remember him being in this au, at one point i think i made him a psychiatrist but really i don’t know so sadly M you are going in the do you even go here tier.

Mr Mark Yang just like in real life he debuts in every au (wait do we have a mark free au? doesn’t seem realistic so i am going to ignore it!!) anyway Mafia Au Mark had his Romeo and Juliet relationship with Tara it was angsty (which for tmark is like woah?1?!?! and also noooo!!)  sexy messy and it was great but then Mark had to go and get dead which not so great so for that he is the Jk Rowling tier. (side note Tara’s boys right next to each other)

Minah “Main Character” Delacroix, like i not even going to explain first she is just going straight into Shakespeare tier. When i say main character i mean this au is just Minah’s. She starts off in this forced engagement to Tyler (a common theme in the GW and its au) fall for our hacker Sungjae, Minjae be angsty as always but somehow manage to get a happy ending only for season two to start and low and behold they are no longer together and Minah is engaged to some wanker (more about him later) and then you find our she is pregnant and you are like what the hell? but then we find out things aren’t what they seem, Miss Minah is being held hostage and it’s Sungjae’s child! but then Miss Delacroix gets her moment when she, i assume kills, Mr wanker in a scene of poetic justice!

Daniel Choi - a trained assassin out for revenge on the people he believes killed his not so dead cousin (more about her later),  in ‘lust’ with Sungjae, acts like he is on the same teams as everyone but isn’t until he is, has a soft spot for Tara, something happens with Tyniel , they either become friends or fwb because once the lee siblings fake their death poor Daniel breaks and loses all his memories and like memory loss Daniel was happy for a little bit until someone came and ruined it, then he starts getting his memories back and it doesn’t make sense so a villain (was it he must not be named to later) comes along and manipulates him into believing the 'good’ guys are all liars. Eventually i assume he gets his memories back but then i mean admittedly he has reasons to pissed with like everyone so *shrugs* anyway i am going to put him in the shakespeare tier because he is life is pretty tragic and william shakespeare would be proud off that i feel.

Sungjae Lee - a hacker who is eye candy for Minah and Daniel, but no he had an actual plot so he gets recruited? idk he was just a run of the mill hacker who somehow got dragged into this mafia lifestyle and he adapts to it.  Then the love of his life gets kidnapped by some crazy french guy and he is trying to save her and their unborn child and he does manage to do that so props!! is he iconic though?  hmmmm…. controversially i am going to have put him in the JK rowling tier.

Mindy- straight into the  do you even go here in this au tier because like was she in this au? and if she was she’d be in the electric chair tier so.

Emily - our favourite not so dead girl, ordered to be killed by Daniel’s father as a way to make sure Daniel has no weaknesses Emilly barely survives - saved by a boy (more about him later) she manages to live having no idea what happened. She falls in love with said boy who is a mafia heir, she finds out the truth freaks out causes said boy to get hurt (boooo!!) and then nurses him back to health because she loves him regardless. Is slowly coming to terms with this lifestyle and also just super upset her cousins doesn’t remember her. I am going to put her into the Stephanie Myer level just because i feel like she has more growth to come.  (Sorry Emily i love you!!)

Jane - now i know she is in this au but i can’t remember what she does in it but it’s Jane so she is in the Stephanie Myer level. (sorry Jane! i love you!!)

Now that i am looking at it Maude doesn’t deserve to be on the same level as Jane and Emily, so i am just going to move them up to the JK rowling level.

Now onto Tyler Lee, he was there - just kidding, but yeah he was engaged to Minah for a bit and was being hunted by Daniel so i am pretty sure they had that hate at first sight thing going, i don’t really remember. He faked his own death - *chef kisses* but then hooked up with Maude which no sane Tyler would do so he loses points (just kidding its the mafia au everyone sleeps with everyone!) him and Tara being badass siblings i do enjoy!! is Shakespeare tier worthy though?  Sure why not.

Straight to the electric chair do i really need to explain?  my hatred for julien in this au is unrivaled.

Is there any au where Lucas isn’t the best boy? if there is it ain’t this one because he is still the best boy, despite being a mafia heir with a father who wants to take over Daniel’s father as the head of their mob? clan? what is the right terminology - who cares anyway Lucas a tall glass of water who will save your life nurse you back to health and then be the best boyfriend in the world. Has a taste of none mafia life and wants that and who can blame him, he doesn’t deserve this life! but again mafia au Lucas is also attractive so maybe he won’t get out off it after all.  I am going to put him in Shakespeare tier, is as iconic as the other characters there? not really but he is the best boy so *shrugs*

Sublime & Silence

REBELDE AU

“Over the last couple of years, IMPULSE! has been making the headlines for quite stupid reasons. As the one-of-a-kind group they are, rumors run rampant about the members, their relationships and everything in between. They’ve been under the limelight, on the receiving end of so much love that is to be expected that they’re permanently subjected to the public scrutiny, with unfounded claims and hate being thrown at them left and right.”

In less than two weeks Minah Delacroix’s latest single, Sublime et silence, has become a chart-topping hit. Considering that the song is nothing like the signature sexy and upbeat tracks Minah’s fans have grown accustomed to, the hype around Sublime et Silence almost results ironic. Minah supposes she is meant to feel ecstatic about the success of her self-composed single, the praises she’s received from the critics and the positive reaction from the general public. Yet, it has almost become physically impossible for Minah to listen to her own song without feeling she’d collapse the very next second. It probably has a lot to do with the fact Minah almost met the same fate as Princess Diana when the car she was riding skidded off the road and crashed into a pillar at the entrance of the infamous Pont d’Alma or maybe it’s the guilt of having willfully ignored the problems surrounding her group and fleeing to Paris for a shopping spree with her cousin. Or maybe, —just maybe—, it is about Sungjae’s decision to leave the group that took the two of them, Tyler, Daniel, Jane and Tara to stardom on the very same day of the release of her song.

Minah is unsure if such a horrible streak of events is somewhat correlated at all, but she still avoids listening to Sublime et Silence as though the goddamned song was to blame for all the misfortunes in her life.

She’s been more or less fortunate enough to avoid hearing about it, but her luck seems to have finally worn off this morning as IMPULSE! (minus Sungjae) sit for breakfast at the kitchen counter in the girls’ apartment. The way the day begins is already prophetic. There’s no sunshine streaming through the window when Minah steps into the kitchen, causing her bandmates to immediately stop their conversation and look at her, eyes tainted with the slightest hint of concern. She brushes their unspoken concern off and distractedly repeats the weather report she heard on the TV before gathering the energy to get off the bed. It’s just a way to make conversation, to break the ice and divert the attention from any potentially hurtful news that will send her back to her room for the rest of the day, but if anything, her comment only seems to distress her groupmates even more if the way they all exchange furtive glances is anything to go by.

Breakfast is uneventful, although Minah thinks to herself that breakfast without Tyler and Daniel bickering or Jane throwing shady comments at Tyler is eventful on its own right. It’s only been two weeks, but Minah recalls the days where IMPULSE! couldn’t even sit at the same table without chaos escalating within minutes as though they happened in some sort of alternate universe that doesn’t exists anymore. Surprisingly, it’s become a new ritual for IMPULSE! to eat at least one of their meals together. No one has spoken about it and there’s ostensibly  no reason in particular for it to happen, but Minah knows It’s meant to be a silent way to support each other just like it is telling of how torn and broken each of them feels, holding onto a group that appears to be on the brink of disbandment.

Minah chooses to voluntarily shut down every thought about why they keep acting like if the leader of their group hadn’t just left —potentially for good— and instead nods her head eagerly when Tyler asks her if she wants a waffle covered by what he deems to be an unhealthy quantity of cream and chocolate syrup.

The bomb drops a few hours later while Minah reads a silly best seller lying on the carpeted floor of her room. She initially chooses to ignore the tweets, but her phone is flooded with notifications, and by the time she googles her group’s name and opens a trustful, serious, news outlet, the article about Sungjae’s departure from IMPULSE! has already reached a million hits. Minah skims the article with her heart racing and in the lamest attempt to control her reaction, she breaths in and out slowly allowing her lungs to fill and deflate.

If breathing techniques are truly effective to stop panic attacks, Minah must be doing it all wrong because if anything there are tears streaming down her face.

While Minah has a controlled meltdown in the privacy of her room, Daniel and Tyler find about the press release announcing Sungjae’s departure from IMPULSE! during an IG live. Tyler initially ignores the comments at the bottom of the screen thinking they’re some sort of ridiculous joke. Over time he’s learned to ignore the less than senseless questions his fans tend to ask or the lengths they’re willing to go to in order to “prank” them. However, once Tyler notices Daniel’s face dropping notoriously, he starts to believe there might be something else to this succession of messages asking them to elaborate on Sungjae’s withdrawal from IMPULSE!

A quick glance at the comment section explains Daniel’s reaction. The fans have gone from “Daniel visual king” and “Tyniel is the standard” to “You kicked Sungjae out of IMPULSE!” and “The five of you are trash” —translated to every language Tyler can identify and many others he doesn’t understand— in the blink of an eye. With his powerful self-preservation instinct Tyler is briefly tempted to cut the broadcast short although it’s only been a few minutes since Daniel and he went live. Of course, Tyler doesn’t. In its place, he reads a question out loud, smiling gleefully. Or at least pretending to.  

“What are some songs you’re listening to lately?” He repeats as he puts on a fake pensive expression and Daniel recomposes himself.

Faking for the cameras comes naturally now, so much that Tyler almost surprises himself when he goes on, looking absolutely unfazed by the news. In reality, though, there’s nothing to be surprised about. Over the last couple of years, IMPULSE! has been making the headlines for quite stupid reasons. As the one-of-a-kind group they are, rumors run rampant about the members, their relationships and everything in between. They’ve been under the limelight, on the receiving end of so much love that is to be expected that they’re permanently subjected to the public scrutiny, with unfounded claims and hate being thrown at them left and right.

Tyler himself is no stranger to scandal and controversy, he has lost count of the times the company had to do damage control on his behalf. All those times Tyler had been instructed to stay radio-silent until his fans and even the general public somewhat calmed down.  

He holds in a sigh reminding himself that he’s still broadcasting live.

‘This is not a first for Sungjae either’ The thought echoes in Tyler’s brain as he forces himself out of silence and goes on. “Well, there’s nothing really new… you know the usual-” he says as his eyes unintentionally divert to the comment section where a battle is unfolding. ‘Leave Tyniel out of this’, ‘If Sungjae left it’s probably his own decision’,  ‘he always does whatever tf he wants anyway’ fans write. “Minah’s song came out recently and we listen to it all the time,” Tyler speaks over his own increasingly jumbled out thoughts, pointing at Daniel and himself, which is a blatant lie because Daniel hates French language and Minah seems to hate her own song enough for her to go ballistic on him whenever he tries to play it.  “It is a beautiful song about-“

Tyler hasn’t figured out yet what the song is about because Minah, just like the French language is complicated and hard to understand.

He solves the dilemma by breaking into a rendition of Sublime et Silence that he encourages Daniel to join to with a wink. With the interaction displayed for the whole world to watch, there’s really no other option for Daniel than to join if he doesn’t want to wake up next morning to an article written on how he hates Minah and dissed her by refusing to sing her new hit.

And so Daniel sings along with gibberish French as he kicks Tyler on the shin under the table.

“Babe” a calm and self-assured voice calls out.

It takes Tara a second or two to realize she’s just dozed off while lounging on the blue velvet sofa of her boyfriend’s dorm and he’s currently standing in front of her looking gravely concerned.

“Your neck is gonna hurt later,” The young man says, the slightest bit of a disapproving grimace twisting his lips  “if you were this tired, you could’ve just told me and I would’ve dropped you home”  he adds as Tara’s face falls into a pout.

“Of course you would,” she says, eyebrows furrowing so deep, they leave a dent in the middle of her forehead even when she is done looking offended. “Just say you’d do anything to get rid off me” she adds, a somewhat bratty expression crossing her face. It makes her boyfriend chuckle as he flops onto the sofa, next to her.

“I was actually planning to ask you stay the night” He comments with a half-amused, half-serious, all-male grin. “Jaehyun and Yuta are gone, we have the apartment all for ourselves” the guy sneaks an arm around Tara’s waist, pulling her closer to press his lips on her cheek, leaving a trail of soft pecks until he’s leaving wet kisses on the back of her neck. Tara slowly pulls away, untangling his hands from her and turning to face him, eyebrows high.

“Seriously?” She huffs, much to her boyfriend’s bafflement. “Not now”

The man’s throat goes dry even before his eyes meet the severe glare Tara is throwing at him. The heavy makeup and glitter adorning her eyelids are a striking contrast from the swollen red eyes, rimmed with leftovers of eyeliner; but he has recollections of meeting the very same expression a few weeks ago when Tara burst into his room looking as though she could kill him with her own hands and claiming there was a high chance that she was pregnant with his child.

The guy has the bad sense to laugh lightly at the thought of it, but the smile fades as quickly as it appeared once his memory reminds him that Tara panicked and experienced a nervous breakdown of monumental proportions, causing Jaehyun and Yuta to flee downstairs, to hole up in Taeyong’s, Doyoung’s and Taeil’s apartment. It’s not a sight he wishes to see again. At least not anytime soon. Though he has to admit that the thought of a little girl with Tara’s pretty face and his eyes makes him feel inexplicably excited.

Tara seems to know exactly what’s on his mind because she frowns and shakes her head vigorously, slightly rolling eyes.

Yes, it’s probably too early to think about children’s names when they’ve barely figured out they want to be together. They’re still navigating through uncertainty and the unresolved issues regarding one of his bandmates, not to mention Tara’s concerns regarding her career and the future of her group. He knows that and he’s convinced that’s the reason why she’s currently frowning at him, but he still ignores those musings as he reaches to grab her hand.

“Just stay” he says with a sheepish smile “I promise I’ll beha-“ whatever the man is planning to say is interrupted by his phone going off, to which Tara reacts wearily, glaring at the device as though it had interrupted a particularly important moment.

The young man gently drops her hand on her lap and moves out the room to pick the call, looking visibly stressed and causing Tara’s expression to deflate.

There’s an egoistical thought invading her brain when she notices the way her boyfriend excuses himself and closes the door of his room behind him: not even the man she loves feels to belong to her. It almost seems that everything she “owns” could be stripped off her within a minute. Her boyfriend, her group, even her own career… anyone could reach out a hand and take everything away from her. Any time. At any moment.

Mark’s grave expression when he walks back into the room, holding out his phone to her, only proves Tara’s fears are anything but unfounded.

It’s lunchtime and Jane sits at her usual spot in M’s café. Despite the time slot, the place is surprisingly empty as the blonde woman stirs distractedly the glass of Irish coffee in front of her. Considering that as of recently the place has become a must-visit for hopeful and delusional IMPULSE! fans who expect to find their favorite artists sitting around and sipping coffee as though they weren’t on a tight schedule, it is almost ironic —as it is relieving— that they’re not around on this specific hour and day. Jane takes it as a sign to try and make a move on M, who’s obliviously placing crockery into the dishwasher as he hums along with the song playing in the background.

Not usually one to double think about her feelings, Jane follows M’s every move with something akin irritation. Since she got there, he’s barely spared her a glance. In fact, he seems far too worried about trivialities like the music playing as background to notice the new dress she’s picked exclusively to climb downstairs and pick coffee for Minah.

Some obscure part of her brain reminds Jane that she was supposed to be right back into her apartment, with Minah’s latte, nearly 30 minutes ago. It must have been the weight of her incoherent wanderings or the way she could distract herself looking at M’s wide back and toned arms for hours, but whatever the reason is, the realization makes Jane feel embarrassed of how utterly pathetic it is she’s spent so much time waiting for something, a cue maybe, from someone who usually looks this unaffected by her presence.

But perhaps that’s exactly what she likes about M.

Ever since her group skyrocketed to fame a few years back, all Jane ever receives are praises and the unwavering attention from the people around her. Although she has the good sense to tell apart hypocrite compliments from real appreciation, the love she receives sometimes blinds Jane judgement. The most recent example at hand being Jung Jaehyun and his ridiculously handsome face.

Jane can’t help but heave a sigh at the thought of her ex-boyfriend and the media frenzy that accompanied their breakup.

“You ok?” M asks over his shoulder, his eyes seem to purposely avoid Jane, but she still considers it a progress from flat-out ignoring her. “You don’t look particularly good today” he says, much to Jane’s dismay, though if she were to analyze his words further, she’d be overjoyed to find out he pays attention to her daily mood.

“What do you mean?” Jane says with the aplomb she’s gathered through the years of being a universally known public figure, eyebrows up as she straightens her back.

“I mean-“ M who’s now turned on his heel and is facing Jane hesitates before speaking again “I mean, you don’t look too happy” He says, clumsily touching his nape. “You look good, as always, don’t get me wrong, I’m just-“ His eyes widen as though he wasn’t supposed to say that, but he goes on anyhow “I mean, I was talking about your mood, you know, you look worried.” He adds so fast Jane’s brain can barely register his words.

“So I always look good?” She asks with a smirk crossing her lips. It’s almost comical how M’s mouth gapes automatically and his cheeks tint a light shade of pink. If Jane could read his mind, she’d understand the feeling of self-consciousness M is currently battling against because he can’t fathom that all she’s picked from what he said, is that specific one-liner.

“No. I mean- yes, but-“ The man lets out a soft sigh and leans over across the counter, so close that Jane can notice the blush on his cheeks and a tiny mole under his eyebrow she had not noticed before. “You’ve been staring at nothing for like 30 minutes. Your coffee must be frozen by now” he says pointing with the chin at the cup in front of her.

“I wasn’t staring at nothing” Jane fights back the exasperation. If the guy wasn’t as nearly oblivious as he is, he’d know she’s been checking him out and indulging in fantasies where he pushes her against that annoying counter separating them and kisses her until they’re both gasping for air. “I was looking at you”.

A soft gasp escapes past M’s lips while Jane mentally beats herself for admitting such an embarrassing detail and all that without the tiniest aid of alcohol because her Irish coffee remains untouched.

The first person to join Minah in the living room of the girls’ apartment is Tara. Unconditional as she is, she quietly sits beside her chewing on her lower lip and unable to pronounce a single word until her groupmate breaks the silence, looking away from her phone right into Tara’s eyes.

“I thought you were supposed to be on a date,” Minah says, purposely directing the conversation to a topic unrelated to the reason she’s currently clad in sweats and an oversized pair of glasses.

“Well, you see-“ Tara fixes the many bracelets adorning her wrists before shifting on the sofa to a more comfortable position. “Mark thought I’d rather be here” she admits shrugging, she’s about to add ‘with the group’, but the sunken look to Minah’s eyes stops her from adding another word “You see, it almost felt like he wanted to get rid of me, he picked a call and before I knew it he was calling a cab and well, here I am” Tara forces a bitter laugh and Minah reaches to pat her hand sympathetically, her eyes suddenly brimming with tears.

“You know, sometimes I wonder what would it be if we were just regular people” Minah confesses out of nowhere. “I like to think about it” as she forces a smile, a single tear rolls down her cheek, but she goes on “In an alternate world we’re all just normal people with normal people problems like making enough money to pay our students’ loans or maybe failing job interviews, but we are happy-”

Tara reaches to grab Minah’s hand, intertwining their fingers and offering the unspoken moral support she’s in need of.

“In an alternate world, Julien and I are the high school sweethearts that marry after finishing college and move to the suburbs.” Minah goes on, although it’s the very first time this scenario even comes to her mind. It’s another man who’s usually the protagonist of her fantasies in an alternate world where there are no other details than getting home daily to the man who truly owns her heart, the one who’s broken it way too many times as well. “He goes onto working at his grandparent’s company and I am one of those super pristine-looking women who dresses nicely and hosts charity events,” She says before adding “Jane’s there too, she’s the bohemian one who married Gabriel and gets drunk with white wine in all our family’s parties.” Minah makes a pause to chuckle and squeeze Tara’s hand reassuringly “You are there too” she says with a tiny smile “You’re the voice of reason” Tara is about to protest, but Minah goes on “Johnny is there too and…“ For the briefest moment Minah hesitates, but then she adds "you two are a match made in heaven, perfect for each other and the happiest of us all”.

“Minah-“ A flutter of panic makes Tara’s voice come off sharper than intended. She has no time to school her expression either because Minah goes on nonchalantly

“Apparently we’re meant to love the wrong people in this lifetime”

There is no sugarcoating and neither does Minah attempt to hide the intentions behind her words. It is evident that just like everybody else —Tara included—, she regards a possible reconciliation with Mark Yang as a massive mistake, to put it nicely. Tara is unsure if the events unfolding the previous days have something to do with Minah’s disapproval, but there’s something in equal parts comforting and painful in the way Minah offers a one-armed hug afterwards.

A second later the elevator doors slide open and half of IMPACT! spills out, chatting  —or arguing most likely— loudly. Minah lets go of Tara and shrinks in size,  pulling her legs up against her chest almost automatically and moving further from her bandmate, as though she were closing herself off to being comforted, as though she didn’t want the rest of her groupmates to notice the hoodie, the glasses or the puffy eyes.

It’s Tyler who spots the girls first and stops in his track, face softening before casting a glare at Daniel who just mentioned the dreaded S word in a sentence that didn’t make much sense to anybody else but had Jane nodding along energetically.

“Didn’t you have a recording session?” Tyler asks to his sister as they exchange knowing glances. “What are you even doing here?” he inquires, eyebrow slanting slightly upwards as his arms fold over his chest. It makes Tyler adopt a judgmental air.

Tara doesn’t roll eyes or dismisses her brother claims bored, like she does whenever her brother has something to say. Judging by the amount of staring and short silence that follow suit, it’s quite evident that the Lee siblings are having one of those silent conversations that usually end up with the pair leaving the room, with one of them —usually Tara—  looking quite reluctantly. Sometimes it’s hard for people to believe Tara and Tyler are related at all. Some other times —like this particular one— they almost seem to share a telepathic bond.

“I…hmmmm… I finished early” Tara shrugs, eyes diverting toward Jane and Daniel for a second.

“Or Mark did” Daniel grins quietly, earning himself a nasty glare from Tyler.

“You were not…” Tyler turns to look back at his sister with a frown, “right?” His lips morph into a disgusted pout,

“Of course not” Jane interrupts, stepping forward and pushing Tyler off her way. “Tara is a lot better than that” She says firmly as she sits next to the younger girl and places a coffee carrier in between them, eyeing Tara as though she could decipher her thoughts. “Yang and you are over for good, aren’t you?” Though Jane’s free spirited and easy going personality usually prevents her from snooping into her groupmates’ business, this time she looks frankly scandalized at the idea of Tara and Mark rekindling whatever it was they had, especially after the scare of the other day and how genuinely terrified Tara looked back then.

“That’s none of our business” Minah settles the conversation wrapping herself around Tara and petting her head as though she was still the little girl that could barely talk to them back when they started filming IMPULSE! and not the grown up woman she’s become over the years “And you better have an excuse for the hour long coffee pickup because the only plausible explanation now is that you were flirting with M and lost track of time” she says, accusation in her voice.

“Don’t remind me” Jane says huffing, the sound reveals that Minah’s theory is not entirely wrong. “To think I lost my time when I could’ve watched the season finale of Dix pour cent instead” Jane comments as she passes her best friend a cup of lukewarm chai latte.

“So Coffee Boy is still ignoring your advances?” Tyler chuckles as he sits on the coffee table, facing his sister and his other two bandmates.

“Don’t even mention that traitor” Jane’s words leave her mouth before she fully realizes she’s letting everybody know that M knew about Sungjae’s plans of leaving the group. She hurries to pick a cup and sip from it to stop more awkward words from tumbling out. However, judging by Tara and Minah’s expressions they’ve already figured out.

“Oh, please. Don’t punish the poor guy” Minah says, trying to force herself to sound casual, but failing “It’s not his fault Sungjae left” She adds with a shrug.

The silence that follows is deafening, but no one seems surprised that Minah is the one to bring up the reason they’re all sitting together, unnecessarily delaying the moment they finally acknowledge Sungjae is gone probably for good.

“I know, but he still could’ve given me a heads up, you know, out of loyalty to our…” Jane trails off, apparently unable to find a word to describe whatever it is the relationship she and the handsome barista have.

“And what would’ve you done? Tie him up so he didn’t leave?” Daniel scoffs, reminding everybody that he’s still standing there in the same spot.

“I know that’s been a fantasy of yours for years, but contrary to popular belief, you and I have completely differing taste and preferences” Jane replies, eyes rolling when she catches Tyler glaring at her. “But, no, I mean… we could’ve tried and talk some sense into him and if we failed I could’ve at least bid him goodbye with a punch in the face” She says with a wishful expression.

“Oh, please” Minah scoffs, exasperation dripping in her tone “We all know Sungjae. There was no use talking to him, he made a decision, he wanted to leave and he would’ve done it no matter the amount of talking.”  

The room falls quiet again, except for the vague sound of music playing from Minah’s room. No one really dares to break the silence right away so they sit avoiding each other’s eyes. Everybody shares the same unspoken questions, concerns, and unresolved feelings regarding Sungjae. It almost feels like yesterday Tyler, Daniel and Tara gathered to discuss his missing belongings and Jane panicked about what was she supposed to tell Minah once she’d returned from her press tour and noticed Sungjae was gone.

To this day nobody is even sure about what made him leave in the first place.

Of course, there was the little PR hell that Ashleigh’s supposed pregnancy caused, but it’s nothing they haven’t gone through before. The last 5 years have seen IMPACT  facing scandals with the poise and grace only a particularly gifted group of people could wield. It really makes no sense Sungjae has left a cause of it. It makes no sense he has left.

“Can you please stop? You’re making me anxious” Tara snaps at her brother out of the blue, pointing out how it is evident that Tyler is itching to say something, if his foot moving almost frantically is anything to go by.

“Well, I hate to be the one playing devil’s advocate, but do we even know if Sungjae left for real?” Tyler asks to the gaping faces of his bandmates who can’t seem to fathom Tyler Lee is not taking this opportunity to drag Sungjae through the mud.

“You have to be kidding, Lee” Jane scoffs, her confusion melting quickly into disbelief.

“Articles are everywhere” Minah reminds him wearily, as though she can’t quite believe she has to explain this to Tyler.

“He’s been gone nearly two weeks” Daniel adds logically, walking over to the group and flopping on the sofa next to Minah. “Hasn’t picked a single call either” Four pairs of eyes turn to look at Daniel at the same time, so he’s quick to add “I heard from Celeste” simply because he doesn’t want to admit that he’s been consistently calling Sungjae every day and leaving messages on his voicemail, just like everybody else. “The point is, we haven’t got any news from him.”

“But maybe he just needs a bit of time off? You know we’ve been traveling nonstop the last couple of months, he probably just wanted a break” Tara suggests, her voice impossibly hopeful even though she can notice Jane mouthing something that looked suspiciously like “oh, come on” accompanied by an eye roll.

“He could’ve called us, or you know, it literally takes a minute to send a message,” Daniel says with something that Tara believes is hurt in his voice, but no one else seems to notice.

“I hate that I agree with him,” Minah says nodding vigorously. “Can we all agree that Sungjae is leaving the group and now it’s just the five of us?” Her voice raises a bit as she says so and in the end, she blows out a deep breath that sounds in equal parts annoyed and regretful. “Or is any of you planning to leave next?” Minah lets out those words before she can even stop herself, but Jane is not surprised Minah is finally taking out all her frustrations on them.

“Seriously Minah, stop acting like we’re here because we love each other and want to be friends forever” if there’s a perfect moment for Daniel to remain silent, this is definitely the one, but he still chooses to speak “We’re not playing house, this is business,” He says crossing his arms over the chest “If Sungjae left, that’s definitely his problem to deal with. And just so you know I’ll leave whenever I want to.”

Tyler’s expression turns irritated on the spot. He chuckles bitterly “Oh, yes, of course you’d think that way because this team means nothing to you, doesn’t it?”

The way Daniel’s eyes turn practically murderous pushes Tara to step in before her brother ends up with a black eye or a broken nose that further add fuel to the rumors of IMPULSE!’s disbandment.

“Can we stop fighting, please? The last thing we need is to make this more complicated than it already is” She says, eyes blinking away the tears “I don’t know if you realize, but this is going to be a PR chaos and like it or not, we need to show a united front”

Minah doesn’t say anything, but her cheeks flush as she moves to look away and Jane mirrors her movements.

“For one thing should check with our agents if the company is preparing a statement or something” Tara goes on much to Daniel’s annoyance.

“I already talked to Chloe” Jane shrugs as she pronounces her sister’s name  “She’s been trying to talk to them since the bomb dropped, but they’re not picking her calls”

“And I talked to Celeste, but she knows nothing” Daniel chimes in “I think she was having a crisis when I called, so she said she’d call back” He says that with the faintest hint of a smile, as though the memory of Celeste going through PR panic was supposed to be a good one.

“I haven’t got news from Madame Moreau either” Tara adds, looking a bit glad everybody has stopped arguing.

“What about we wait till we hear from them then?” Tyler says.

“Ok”

“Ok”

“Fine then”

For a quick moment, they all exchange glances, facing each other awkwardly before looking away. Then their phones buzz and ping simultaneously announcing an incoming message.

The text is rudely brief and the instructions insufficient, but whether they acknowledge it or not Jane, Minah, Tyler, Daniel and Tara are all glad Sungjae’s withdrawal from IMPULSE! is nothing but some unconfirmed rumor started by a malicious gossip site that’s been after their neck since Tara and Sungjae called them out for writing lies about the group.

“Everybody” Minah suddenly exclaims from where she is curled on the sofa, she holds her phone up for everybody to see “How do we all feel about some damage control?”

The picture doesn’t make it to the group’s official account, but later that day when Minah goes to bed, eyes still puffed and clad in offensively unglamorous one-pice pjs, she looks fondly at the screen of her phone, where five faces smile back at her. She is convinced that whatever happens next she’ll never regret experiencing firsthand IMPULSE’s particular brand of chaos.
