👽100 Question Sci-Fi Worldbuilding Ask Game🚀
lol it's long im read-more-ing this
🧑🌾What’s the state of agricultural technology in your WIP? Can any plant be grown to excess anywhere in the galaxy, or are farms still beholden to nature?
there are more sophisticated systems set up for long-term space travel, with ships having entire wings dedicated to growing "fresh food." humanity itself has also partially settled on a new planet and have agriculture there, though as expected the crops and plants that thrive are a very different species that those of old Earth days.
some environments are openly hostile to plant growth, both on other planets and within space, whether due to radiation or other more discrete factors. the galaxy is a strange and wonderful place full of thriving civilizations, so specific conditions need to be met to grow plants. you can't just have them sprout out of thin air—though some rare classes of Artifacts are said to help with this setback.
🎭What’s the state of entertainment technology in your WIP? Are hologram TV shows the best way to spend a Friday night, or is it still Netflix and Chill?
entertainment is quite literally, a thought away. as all of the human population has been implanted with nanomachines in some way, summoning a screen is as easily as thinking it after installing the appropriate upgrades, though military personnel are obviously forbidden from such frivolous add-ons and must use pre-issued devices, communication consoles, and the rest that monitor what they do 24/7.
thanks to the long distances between star systems, most of entertainment is still digital but involves immersive VR experiences that allow users to feel simulated environments with up to 90% accuracy (a hard cap to avoid overloading the brain), though there are also the usual parks, physical activities, and other offline hobbies. livestreaming is particularly popular as technology has made it possible to transmit feeds from distant star systems with only slight delays, connecting the universe despite its increasingly colorful and distinct population. thankfully, Aphelion has developed stellar translation technology to deal with all the different languages and cultures.
🪛What’s the state of manufacturing technology in your WIP? How are things being produced?
nanotech stands at the forefront of most technological advances simply because of its speed, size, and compatibility between machine and man; however, materials are sourced from planets all across the galaxy. intelligent A.I. like Syren handle the building of structures side-by-side with their human and non-human peers, as the Aphelion Empire believes in encouraging the spirit of innovation so that humanity's progress never stagnates.
🪖What’s the state of military technology in your WIP? Are armored giant robots fighting wars, or still regular people with guns?
depending on the enemy they face, the military will vary its tactics. some wars can be resolved with diplomacy or simply a show of force, as the empire's starship fleet in full are perfectly capable of destroying a planet without ever setting foot on its soil. mecha forces are considered a romantic notion of the last few centuries and nowadays found more commonly among civilian users, who have adapted the tech into a spectator sport with popular annual competitions that accept both human, non-human, and inorganic/A.I. contestants. Artifacts also get a cameo here as many of them give the empire an undeniable boost in fighting strength thanks to their unique and unusual powers.
🤔What kind of technology is still being developed in your WIP? What’s something they’re still trying to figure out?
even as humanity advances, its deepest mysteries lies in the origins of Artifacts scattered across the universe. taking on various forms and sometimes even displaying signs of sentience, these objects are usually found in areas of high radiation but once retrieved and quarantined, are safe for everyday use. they possess abilities that range from offense, defense, and even healing, and are used in all walks of government and military life. they are too rare to be directly utilized by civilians, however. their sources of power are unknown and seemingly inexhaustible; however, many need a "rest period" after use to recharge and maximize their efficacy.
🤷Are there any jobs that seem obsolete, but still exist? Why are they still around?
all citizens of the Aphelion Empire are required to take a course on Earth and its customs to remember their roots. specially trained instructors are sent to children for this purpose, trained in archaic skills related to Earthling culture such as its languages, history, and as much traditions as the humans were able to retain after 20,000 years. some of these involve fancy rituals for everyday tasks, such as tea ceremonies and how to wash a car, both of which are considered culturally significant relics of the past.
despite having flawed and partially destroyed records of their past, Aphelion citizens still love and miss their mother planet very much.
💵Is currency different in your WIP? Is it all digital, or does physical money still play a role?
credits are mostly processed on a digital scale for ease of trade; however they can be converted to local currency equivalents if the planet is part of the Aphelion Empire's alliance. in more unstable regions, physical currency is seen as more reliable, while some stranger cultures prefer to forgo any payment and rely on more nebulous measurements like favors owed or a trade/barter system.
