okay this is my singular non-flondon fic this year but! i really like Family Portrait. it's simple, convise, and something that sets the mood of what's different about this AU vs the original movie!

i just!!!!! i don't have betas a lot of the time because i get super shy about my works!!! and usually my stuff is decently dark, smut, or someone's specific ocs, so there's only so many people i can inflict it on because i write in my notebook first so i can't just send over the pdf or anything haha!

18: The character that gave you the most trouble writing this year?

ELIAS FUCKING LEROUX

just. 100% elias!!!! the problem is, a lot of things i know about them are... intrinsic or vibes-based, but because i want to write deeper motivations and longer-plotlines with them in the coming year, I'm trying to get a solid handle (haha) on them, and it means analyzing a character who is subject to change and flexibility at my owns hands, so i have to decide a lot of what's canon or not, what has changed and shifted, and it's been a hell of a task trying to solidly pin things down!! I spent a solid two or three months trying to pin down their damn speech patterns alone lmao!!! There's a lot to Elias, and they're very particular, and i know what decisions they would make, the hard part is figuring out *why* they would make those. Unlike Marigold and Thrusday, who already came with a lot of their story and personality built, Elias was my first OC for this fandom, so they've changed a lot as they went along, and I've had to go back and piece things together. Obviously, on a meta level, they became Gonfaloniere and Regent and Paramount because i thought it was fun and i liked those parts of the lofe, but that doesn't help so much on a textual level, so i needed to figure out why they chose that, and that's been a lot of what I've been doing this year is getting that groundwork in the first half of the year, and then in the secondhalf taking all of that and finding what i can build next from it!!! and it's taken me to some pretty cool places with the RHQueen especially, but they have not been making it easy on me, haha!!

(and since you mentioned #30: I think my next biggest surprise would be how much fun I can have with dialogue! i struggle with communication and language in my daily life and that translates to my writing often, so for the longest time I avoided any and all dialogue. But! in the few instances where I've taken that plunge and actually worked on it, I've found there were times where i really anjoyed it!!!)

✂️ - What kind of thing would have your OC cut someone out of their life? How likely are they to let someone back in?

Pépin - I don’t think there is anything anyone could do to him while Pép is in the manor to make him cut them out of his life unfortunately. He’s been so conditioned to just assume whatever happens is his fault and deserving of it, that he wouldn’t think to cut said person out of his life. He’s also not in a position to be able to do that either really! 

When he leaves the manor, he is able to start cutting people out of his life, but he’d also still very easily let them back in if they apologised. (He needs to work on that quite a lot really)

Fachtna - Fachtna on the other hand has no qualms about cutting people out. He already turned his back on the grove and the wardens after they were horrid to him. He doesn’t see the point in hanging out with people who aren’t nice to him or other people.

He is likely to accept apologies, but he also doesn’t feel the need to let them back into his life - he’s moved on and is doing great!

🩺 - Does your OC accept help easily? Are they willing to admit when they need help?

Pépin - He doesn’t need help everything is perfect and fine! But yeah, Pépin has convinced himself he doesn’t need any help because nothing is wrong (Which clearly it is). Even when ill he pushes himself through it, and struggles with people trying to help him. It’s partly why he needs someone to reach out and help without him asking - because he can’t ask for help.

Deeper down he also doesn’t believe he deserves any help. There has to be a reason the gods or Pale Tree have never helped him, so he clearly must deserve whatever he gets.

Fachtna - Trying to help Fachtna to start with is really hard. He’s VERY stubborn and doesn’t like people “trying to take over” and tell him what he can and can’t do. He quickly learns to differentiate between people actually wanting to help and those who are just making assumptions though, and when it’s people he likes then he’ll gladly accept help with stuff!

📎 - How organised is your OC? Do they keep on top of responsibilities, or leave things to the last minute?

Pépin - Badly. His whole life is organised for him so he’s never had to do it himself but even then he gets muddled on occasion, or distracted by something like rehearsing or another hobby he was absorbed in and misses out on scheduled things. When set tasks though, he diligently completes them as best as he can within the allocated time.

Fachtna - He lives a free and exploratory life, this lad doesn’t need to organise anything! Except he does in some ways like packing or planning where he’s going, which does also lead to him forgetting to pack important things like oil for a lantern or leaving his walking stick places!

💬 - Is your OC much of a talker? Do they only speak when spoken to? (Or not even then?) Do they ever talk over others?

Pépin - Pép is a very proper young gentleman who should only speak when spoken too. Except sometimes he’s enthusiastic or happy and interrupts which can vary in consequence. 

At parties it depends on the role he’s filling - if he’s being a coy flirt he’s a very smooth talker and chats to anyone who approaches him!

When he’s just being himself though he’s very very chatty, he’s always got something to talk about! He just, doesn’t get any opportunity to talk to people so he’s very lonely, and therefor interrupts and talks more when he “Shouldn’t be”.

Fachtna -  Fachtna is pretty easy going when it comes to talking! He’ll talk to anyone he meets and isn’t one to follow structures of hierachy. He’ll talk to a farmer the same way he’d talk to the leader of the Vigil!
