college is fine. u keep changing majors. u pick up photography as a joke, thinking about snapping photos of the boy wonder from a distance, to print in the basement dark room after school. it’s a laugh, and ur gonna drop it until donna troy finds out, and u spend a long time on the roof of the tower with her taking photos of the sunrise. it’s been a while since the sunrise was the start of ur day. it feels….. unfamiliar. she tells u about how ur brother became nightwing. she tells u about the heartbreak of having to move on. she tells u about choices.

kon’s right down the hall. he can hear u but u can’t hear him, so sometimes you’ll whisper a question for him to shout back. he obligingly poses for ur still life class. he and steph make fun of how u can’t decide what to study. it’s painful to become tim drake and nothing else again, but it happens in increments. u make friends with people in ur tutoriasl. ur less pale — u pinken under the sun easily, peeling flesh turning red and painful, but u look less like a corpse. ur hair is longer, and bart buys u a claw clip shaped like an avocado.

the new robin is growing up, and he explains colour theory to u for one of ur classes. he’s an asshole, but he’s trying. when asked politely, he draws character sheets for bart’s dnd group with minimal grumbling. red and yellow suit him, and looking at him in the costume feels less painful, and more nostalgic.

u brainstorm new ideas for urself, new roles, new ideas for the team, but there’s no rush. u have time. if u see bruce, u kno there’s someone else at his back, watching him through the night. dick texts u life updates, but they’re funny, not desperate. the world continues to spin. u, tim drake, are still alive.

It was a pretty normal night at the Gallagher household. V and Kev were over and everyone was dancing around the living room except for the newfound couple, Y/n and Lip, who had been in the kitchen watching the Gallagher dance party from afar.

Only a week before Lip and Y/n became official, they had been on and off fling in high school causing Y/n to become close with the family. It wasn’t until Lip had begun getting his shit together and going to AA meetings that he realized Y/n had been his person all along. When he came to them about it much to Lip’s surprise, Y/n revealed they had been in love with Lip since he left for college. 

While everyone else, except Liam, had been drinking a beer at the household, Y/n had opted for a soda so that Lip had his own drinking buddy. 

Y/n gasped causing Lip to look at them concerned. “What? What’s wrong?” 

“This song is my shit!” Y/n responded before downing the rest of their soda and discarding the cup by Lip’s on the counter before joining the others in the living room and immediately falling into a dance with Ian and Liam as if it was an instinct of theirs. Lip smiled at the small act before shrugging on his coat and making his way out the back door.

After a few moments, Lip turned his head when hearing the sound of the door opening and closing. “Hey,” He said, smiling up at Y/n as they sat next to him on the steps.

Y/n smiled in return before taking the cigarette out of Lip’s mouth and putting it out on the steps before disregarding it in the yard. Lip smiled at the small gesture Y/n had done since high school. He used to hate it but as they got older Lip grew to appreciate it.

“You ok?” Y/n quietly asked as they adjusted the hair tie on their wrist. 

“Yeah! I just needed a cigarette break, are you?” Lip responded, taking his lover’s hand in his gently. Y/n nodded their head yes in response. 

“If I can convince Fi to put on our song will you come dance with me?” Y/n asked, causing the boy to laugh. 

“If you can convince Fiona? Sure! Good luck doin’ that” Lip said, earning a shoulder punch from Y/n.

“I already did because I am the master at charming Gallaghers' ' Y/n joked with a smile as they leaned their back on Lip’s shoulder. 

“Oh, are you? We just love you so much huh?” Lip joked back running his hand through Y/n’s hair.

“I love you,” Y/n responded, shifting to look at the boy.

- Before you enter the mix, Dabi is really the only holding them together. He started off dating Tomura (who still insists he barely even likes him, usually after they finish making out) and then later Kei joined in. You’re still not sure how it all came to be since you get a different answer depending on who you ask and what mood they’re in.

- Tomura is only a bit tsundere with Dabi and Kei, never you. With you he’s more openly clingy and would never deny how he feels. He wouldn’t say it, but he appreciates you being around whenever Dabi and Keigo make him feel like a third wheel. Keigo has some similar experiences, but he’s just genuinely not bothered whenever Dabi wants to go have some solo time with Tomura. Or you, for that matter. Just isn’t the jealous type.

- They like using you to fuck with each other. If you’re hanging out with Dabi there’s a good chance Keigo will come along and just flat out steal you. Just pick you up and walk off. Because he can. Dabi is fond of teasing Tomura about how much he likes you, despite clearly also liking you. Tomura’s go-to is usually also to steal you, however he likes to get you to come willingly so you’ll blow off whoever you were with to start.

- Keigo and Tomura get along best when teaming up to irritate Dabi. Whether it’s playing keep away with you, hiding his stuff, distracting him when he’s trying to brood and do Dabi stuff, they really enjoy the power of their combined effects on him.

- The three of them teaming up to irritate you is what really gets them cooperating. They’re all gremlins, they steal your clothes to force you into skirts with no panties, they move your stuff around so you have to ask them for help, and that’s without getting into how often they fight over you, although that’s not so much to annoy you.

- Dabi developed a little habit of calling you, Tomura, and Kei his sluts and now he does it no matter who’s around and it’s really embarrassing but he absolutely does not care.

- While most of the time it’s Dabi and you holding Tomura and Keigo together, it’s not uncommon to find just the two of them off by themselves bonding over a common interest or even occasionally making out.

- They’re not shy about the relationship, so it’s fairly often you get teased (albeit lovingly) about having three boyfriends. Toga really likes trying to force you to pick a favorite.

- Everyone thinks it’s creepy. Everyone. But Kei started calling you their “little girl” and just never stopped.

- They don’t really do PDA between themselves aside from the odd hand holding or rare peck on the cheek, but when it comes to you all bets are off. You’re constantly perched in someone’s lap or holding a hand or having your clothes fixed by someone else. To everyone else it mostly looks like they toss you around.

- Sometimes they’ll take you on dates, switching between doing them one on one or with the whole group. It’s hard to get Tomura to go out, though, since he prefers stay at home dates. When he’s not feeling it you’ll usually end up in a blanket fort eating takeout all together.

Tomura always touches you softly (outside of the bedroom), always brushing his fingers along your cheeks or resting his head on your shoulder, etc. He’s also the most likely to casually touch the others in public.

- When it’s cold everyone piles up on Dabi and he pretends he hates it, but you always catch him smiling when he thinks no one’s looking.

which, in reality, are words/phrases with positive meanings :( 

ah i really hope someone tells everyone wassup w these terms

but, lets start w this beautiful term: Я верю в тебя (pronounced: ya veryu v tebya)

this means: i believe in you (and reader, i believe in you, you can do anything you put your mind as long as it doesnt harm you or anyone)

but anyways, this is probably a term that slips out during a fight btwn the two siblings

is it weird that i cant imagine them fighting often, or at all- 

okay anyways, back to the hc

theyre probably fighting about how lev left his dirty laundry in the br after the shower, or how he left his dishes on the dining table and how he isnt necessarily cleaning up after himself

and shes tired of it, so she starts yelling at him

and shes like “oh my god! youre so useless! veryu v tebya” 

and he kinda stops saying anything back and stares at her c o n f u s e d

and shes like ?? whatre you looking so lost for

and hes like, what does that mean

and shes like, it means that you arent capable of anything. 

so this poor boy thinks that the term “i believe in you” now means “you arent capable of anything” 

when kenma, kuroo, and yaku treat him a little meaner on a bad day, he’ll be sure to mumble it under his breathe

when he blocks hinata’s spike, hes sure to yell it out proudly, and everyone kinda is like ???? 

and so he explains what it means, and 

hinata isnt phased by the fact that lev just called him incapable bc poor bby got to learn another russian phrase 

and then kenma puts two and two together and realizes what levs been calling him

and what alisa thinks it means is : you are not an angel/youre a fallen angel/youre the devil 

bc like some languages dont have a term for something, so they use another term and then the word not in front of it, so alisa assumes thats what it is 

so she just assumes this word is something to call someone a devil or basically imply theyre a bad person 

this term slips out from alisa, when someone says a comment about lev during a game, 

ooooo lets say the nekoma vs. nohebi game to make it to nationals 

and someone says something along the lines of lev being a terrible blocker

from across the court

and out of nowhere

tanaka probably uses this term on people who piss him off

but lastly, a term that lev would learn from alisa is Радость моя

this term is pronounced as radost moya

it means “my joy” 

so, when alisa is stressing over something (maybe hw, maybe over the fact that lev keeps making a fool of himself in front of yakus sister) 

she’s like muttering under her breath, 

“this is gonna be the death of me, ugh why is this radost moya“ 

like LMAO she thinks this term means terrible, or my bad luck

overall, alisa teaching lev incorrect russian phrases, is lev teaching the whole of anyone who plays volleyball ever incorrect russian phrases

lev, kenma, kuroo, tsuki, kags, akaashi, bokuto, yams, and yaku all went to the fish market one day

they all witness kuroo, bokuto, lev and hinata do something stupid with their shared one brain cell

so, naturally, the others flame them in russian

and someone nearby is like 

“aww its so sweet you believe them,, your friendship is so cute“

so the wounds are still fresh. v v v v v v v v v fresh. but my thoughts during the entire movie were just OMG IM TRYING TO REMEMBER EVERY SINGLE THING THAT IS HAPPENING SO I CAN REMEMBER IT AS LONG AS POSSIBLE BEFORE i inevitably go see this movie again

now, I’m gonna try and break this up to be as organized as possible into 4 main sections which will be general thoughts, the highs, the lows, and closing thoughts. that may sound organized but I promise it won’t be and as always I’ll have to use bullet holes to even stay relatively "organized"

I'm sure I'm leaving stuff out that I either loved or would wanna discuss but tbh the ENTIRE FILM i was just like GOD I WANNA REMEMBER THIS FOREVER!! Every scene that happened i was like god there's still 3 hours of stuff that's going to happen but I want to remember it all!!!

Overall

this movie was good. and i’m mad it was so good and i found it so enjoyable for how dirty they did me. The pacing was pretty well done for a first viewing, but I'm sure after a couple rewatches I'll get caught up on the occasional misstep in the pacing and general direction the story took, but I really liked it!!

I thought the Thor stuff was kinda distasteful and honestly a joke that ran too long. Like ha ha okay we get it but also? He went through so much fucking trauma can we just lay off him? Damn? I don't wanna linger too much on it bc honestly the more I think about it the more I get upset the russos did him dirty

all the callbacks??? made me so emotional????? eleven years and almost two dozen films guys holy fucking shit it felt like such a good homage to bring stuff back

And now a pOSSIBLY CONTROVERSIAL~~ opinion but..... I loved Steve's ending. I really did. I thought he got a beautiful and fitting ending and I was so happy. It meant so much especially to hear his reasonging being that in a way, he did it for Tony. He was inspired by what Tony told him. He saw Tony get his happy ending and for so many films now Steve has been searching for that and he missed an entire life. Tony helped him realize that. It just made me!! So emo!! Like Bucky's face when he knew Steve wasn't gonna be coming back. Steve's last convo w/ Sam. It was just amazing. I can't believe I'm seeing hot takes from people calling Steve selfish or blaming the fact that the Russos have a boner for Steggy or whatever. Who cares!!! Steve got his happy ending and it was well deserved and a wonderful arc!! Lay off him bc you ship him w/ Bucky or tony more damn!!!! (Idk about the timeline y'all dont come for me i really have no idea i think the Russos just said fuck it for that one even when talking about not fucking up the timeline)

Lows

Natasha deserved better. She did. I understand why they took her character arc the way that they did, and honestly, this is the first time I've felt we've seen Natasha have even a modicum of actual character traits since like, Iron man 2 and Avengers 1. She found purpose in keeping the family together and trying to help the people left living, while never stopping or losing contact with anyone else in their endeavors to fix what Thanos broke. As tired as I am of seeing a female character die for ~man pain~ this felt like so much more than that. In the end Nat wanted to sacrifice herself for the greater good, and that's what she did. I'm still fucking upset though, even though they've butchered her character across almost all the films she's been in

Thor being turned into an entire fucking joke. That's it. I got nothin left for the writers at this point.

So..... let's talk about Tony's death, shall we

"You can rest now" broke me. It truly did. I've never loved any fictional character across any medium as much as I have loved Tony Stark. But Pepper's line at the beginning "you'll sleep, but will you rest?" Is so fucking telling. I think I immediately knew for sure in that moment. Because she's right. And that's the worst part.

Peter :)))) finally :)))) calling :))))) tony :)))) by :)) his :)))) first :)) name :))) as he was dying :)))) asking him not to go the same way he told tony he didn't want to go when he was getting dusted GOD. AND WE THOUGHT THAT SCENE IN INFINITY WAR WAS ROUGH. HAD N O T H I N G ON THIS.

That funeral scene.... seeing everyone there drawn together..... god. It was beautiful. It really was.

Of course I'm not happy. I'm extremely fucking upset. I knew tony wielding the gauntlet would be coming, but I thought they would find a way for him to make it out alive. As soon as they were showing that even the hulk couldn't handle it with the gamma radiation, I knew the nail was going to be in the coffin.

All that aside... what I can say, is that if they HAD to kill him off, I think it was a proper send off. We saw so many arcs of Tony's come to a close, and I knew it was just a matter of time. Also that being said, I really don't believe in death being necessary to end a character's arc. Yeah yeah blah blah we get the sad and tragic but TRUE message that at the end of the day death is inevitable and that tony had to sacrifice himself for the greater good. He and Strange both knew it, and as soon as Strange held up that finger I knew that was it for him.

It wouldn't be so hard if they hadn't given us everything they did with tony after the 5 year jump. He healed. He was HAPPY. But pepper was right, and as long as Tony was alive... he would never truly /rest/. And that's the only way I'm able to make peace with this death. Tony has always been a character who was just going going going, never going to stop even if it killed him, all to protect the ones he loved, and protect the whole world and make it a better place. He had a beautiful story that was told so well over these past eleven years, with admitted shortcomings here and there. He had the most cohesive trilogy films, the best character development and arcs, and an incredible portrayal. I'm grateful for it, but that doesn't make it any easier that they decided to go and show us that Tony was able to FINALLY settle down with Pepper and see him find the best version of himself as a husband to her and a father to his little baby girl. A baby girl that now has to grow up without her dad, and pepper has to go on without her husband, the love of her life. It's fucking tragic and honestly, we didn't need that imho lmao

The hardest parts is that like.... idk. I feel like the only reason they killed him is for shock factor, but somehow without the shock? A lot of us felt or were worried that this was coming. I think the russos and co. We're just totally set on the idea that like... tony HAD to die and that was the only way for this arc to come to a close not just WITHIN the universe, but meta, outside of the MCU as well. They did the same thing with Hugh jackman as Logan and that shit HURTED me y'all. Eleven years we had RDJ give us this amazing character and he is the SOLE reason the MCU is where it is today. So you know what, the Russo's and everyone can circle jerk about how much ~poetic justice~ there is in this ending for Tony, but at the end of the day... it just ain't it fam.

Realistically I know after wielding the infinity stones there is no way Tony, a human, could've survived, even with his armor on. I knew that. And as biased as I am towards seeing Tony living, if he had wielded the stones and NOT died? It would've felt cheap. So again, if they had to end his life, I appreciate the way they did it and thought it was the best send off they could've given him. I also would've appreciated some kind of alternate option where oh i dont know carol or someone strong enough could've handled the snap and tony could live the rest of his days with his wife and daughter and found family but..... ig that's just me huh.

And last thought is that I fucking cried AGAIN because the biggest applause moment was during the credits when RDJ's name appeared. My theater gave a standing damn ovation. Also the very last sound after it faded to black... Tony hammering away, building the very first Iron Man suit.... that shit hurted.

97 anime likes:

the animation, including the like, yk the more detailed stills they pan over in place of action or to punctuate important moments, i love it

the gorgeous backgrounds

most of the colour choices. red eclipse, femto’s blue eyes, casca’s skintone, griffith’s mauve clothes, etc.

how close it is to the manga. like, it’s a solid adaption just by virtue of making very few changes.

so like, most of it really, because i like the manga

special mention to the entire lead up to the eclipse from griffith’s reality break to the sacrifice tho, because i think that was all pretty damn perfect. it’s the most important scene and they did it right.

actually also shout out to casca’s flashback to griffith and the dead kid, gennon, the river scene, all that. another difficult v emotional sequence that they nailed imo.

griffith thinking about how he “loves” guts during the monologue

skipped most of the griffith/charlotte sex scene iirc which i approve of

the glimpse of black swordsman guts in ep 1. it’s not perfect but it’s way better than the ovas starting w/ 15 yr old guts

the opening and closing themes. fucking love both songs ngl

also the opening monologue. never get tired of hearing it

the score

the portrayal of griffith was honestly pretty solid imo. i have very few issues there. and lbr that’s important lol

97 anime dislikes:

not a big fan of griffith or guts’ character designs.

just about everything that isn’t identical to the manga is a change for the worse

turned griffith’s scratch marks into that giant unexplained scar

adding extra scenes where casca is secretly impressed with guts’ skills in battle in an attempt to build up their relationship better, which instead just made casca look unfair for still being a dick to him for 3 years and made guts stupidly gary stu-ish

obviously the straightforwardly romantic portrayal of guts and casca’s relationship

through several seemingly minor changes (eg, skipping guts’ night of self-doubt after he leaves, giving guts’ stay with godo its own half-episode, making guts inviting casca along super romantic rather than the incredibly casual and assholish way he does it in the manga, etc) it makes Guts’ dream seem legitimately noble and worthwhile, with none of the like… implicit critique the manga has. like honestly it completely fucks up what i consider one of the central themes of the story lol

the pre eclipse stuff also fails to sell guts’ sense of regret - through things like playing guts’ theme while judeau is telling guts to leave, not repeating guts’ statement of regret after casca tells him to leave again, the tone remains consistently in favour of guts’ dream. wrong and bad.

like it really reads like the suggested tragedy is that guts doesn’t get the chance to ditch griffith with judeau and take off with casca and the raiders lol

also fucks it up by never directly mentioning guts’ csa trauma

also fucks it up by losing guts’ self-destructive single-minded urge to fight monsters that we saw thru the wyald stuff. i’m not gonna say that losing wyald was a bad decision, but they should’ve at least moved erika suggesting that guts just wants to fight zodd again to the fucking waterfall scene in question, which they portrayed completely sans zodd discussion, completely sans implication of the self-destructiveness of guts’ dream

like in the manga he nearly gets killed by the falling logs and just laughs it off like a dumbass while erika is concerned and suggests that guts is driven by something irrational and not actually a ~noble~ dream, ie, wanting to fight zodd again (ie, going deeper, his csa trauma), while in the anime we get a 2nd scene where he successfully slices through the logs as a super basic symbol of growth and a narrative pat on guts’ back that shouldn’t be there!

honestly just fucking everything about the portrayal of guts’ dream lol it just takes it at face value in a way the manga consistently never did and always undermined and critiqued, and it bugs the hell out of me.

guts is just drawn in a way that makes him look angry way too often and he often feels ooc to me bc of it. like he lacks a lot of the warmth he has in the manga imo

showing that griffith is awake when guts says “i’ll stay too” even tho in the manga those words are placed over a panel of him asleep for a reason like, ffs

lots of other random nitpicky details that only i give a fuck about because my opinions and feelings about the story are too strong lol. like not showing griffith’s face when he asks if guts thinks he’s cruel

oh huge one: moving the scene where the torturer rips off griffith’s behelit from about a day after he was imprisoned to right before his rescue. completely trivializes griffith’s torture because it still looks like he’s been in there for a day at most

why on earth did it end where it ended????????????? who’s bright idea was that? the perfect ending is skull knight riding tf out with guts and casca and femto not killing them, but then they also cut out skull knight’s first appearance so idfk man.

oh some downplaying of griffguts, like i can’t complain too much about this because it was still p homoerotic, but things like omitting guts assuming griffith wants to fuck him right before their first duel. boo.

ultimately at the end of the day as much as i do genuinely like the anime, it’s not telling quite the same story the manga was - the story it’s telling is more boring and basic. but because it sticks so close to the manga the good story still shines through? it just means there’s inconsistent tone choices and stuff, like the aforementioned grievances.

it’s like, they kept casca’s diatribe at guts line for line while she’s screaming that griffith needed him and a man can’t live on dreams alone, but they don’t extend that train of thought to guts going off to pursue his dream, while the manga does.

anyway despite that giant list of dislikes i still think the anime is pretty fantastic overall. i just also like, blame it for a lot of wrong fandom takes lol.

movie likes:

character designs! honestly imo everyone looked pretty great.

they played up the homoeroticism and i appreciate that

illustrating griffith being torn between guts and his dream through that lovely moment when he catches guts when he nearly falls off the stairs right before he catches charlotte, and in a more romantically suggestive way

the whole scene where griffith shows up at charlotte’s window thoroughly improved on the manga, so hats off there. loved how completely out of it he was to the point where he barely realized where he was and immediately turned to leave when charlotte was like ‘woah dude wtf,’ love that charlotte was the one to ask him to stay and then physically move his hand back to her tit, love how emphatically griffith was thinking about guts during that sex scene, etc. like it’s still not perfect, but it is a vast improvement.

griffith showing up in person after the hundred man fight was a nice touch

it was cool that they got a lot of the same english vas from the anime dub back, and they all did a gr8 job. like it’s a pretty good dub imo.

i liked that they moved ‘the crystalization of your last tear shed’ to after guts’ post-eclipse breakdown

compared to the anime at least gtsca was more low-key and chill rather than dramatically romantic. still don’t want it there, and still not as… unromantic as the manga, but i’ll take what i can get

the animation during griffith’s transformation into femto, yk that whole sequence, was cool

slan’s english voice was super sexy

ummmmm i feel like they conveyed the whole dreams are stupid theme, and guts’ decision to leave being a mistake, better than the anime? like i got the sense that the ova ppl recognized that was a theme, at least. i’d have to watch them again to really be sure of that tho

no dead kid angst, gennon only in vague implication, no self harm - oh no wait we saw self inflicted scratches, they were just completely contextless and meaningless to the point where we could assume charlotte’s nails made them

no torture chamber monologue

no guts monologue in the tavern either for that matter

no rooftop scene

again barely the implication of guts’ childhood trauma, both the sexual abuse and the general parental abuse. one vague flashbacky nightmare doesn’t cut it, it’s the cornerstone of the story

like i get it, it’s a movie trilogy, you have to cut some things, but goddamn, cut out gtsca. trim the hundred man fight. add 20 minutes to the first ova and take the insanely long rape scene out of the third. trim down the whole eclipse sequence. don’t cut out like… the story. like they cut out SO MANY emotionally relevant scenes and kept so many much less relevant scenes, idek.

and like let’s be real here, they turned griffith from an immensely interesting and complex character into a 1 dimensional dude who is torn between a vaguely evil ambition and being in vaguely evil love with guts, just for the sake of streamlining the least interesting aspects of the story

they don’t even try to pretend otherwise lol, look at his fucking hilarious evil smile here

also while i’m looking at it, in general i think they failed at the whole eclipse sequence. looks, lighting, colour, build up of tension… there are a few minor improvements here and there (eg casca’s point of view shot of femto, femto telekinesising guts back a la the black swordsman arc which emphasizes his failure to act when he escapes), but overall it doesn’t work for me at all. like imo the anime has the exact same highs and lows as the manga, but while the ova avoids some lows it never reaches those highs.

they also had griffith overhear guts saying he wants to stay. i really don’t get why this happened twice lol, like… ok his face is kind of shadowed here but he’s still very clearly asleep? this is an important detail, guts’ interrupted words are even on that very panel, so why would you go out of your way to show that he’s awake and listening at that point.

the pacing sucked. 3rd movie was too long, 1st was too short, and they skipped waaaaaay too many significant scenes that should’ve been there as emotional beats

honestly the movies are pretty, they’re nicely fanservicey in ways, they capture some good subtleties and nuances at times, but they’re a husk of the story

oh did i mention the music during the eclipse rape? incredible.

also i am actually generally positive about the movies too despite what it seems like here lmao. i’ve watched them all like, 3 or more times and i find them v enjoyable.

i just have a way easier time listing nitpicky flaws than positives honestly. the flaws stand out to me, the virtues pass me by because i’m just enjoying them and not dwelling on them

and lbr here at the end of the day no adaption will ever really satisfy me unless i somehow find several million dollars lying around and make my own lol. and that would probably be a flop anyway.

Dreamscape: Running Supercars Up Switzerland’s Gotthard Pass

The rain has stopped, but headlights still glimmer on the road’s slick surface, and fog swirls over the mountainside like lace curtains whipping in the breeze. Immediately ahead, there’s a Ferrari 812 Superfast and a Dodge Viper ACR. Beyond them, Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR and Porsche 911 GT1 road cars queue side by side, homologation specials from 25-unit production runs. In the rearview mirror, a Ferrari FZ93 and Aston Martin Zagato Shooting Brake stand out in the line of exotics that coils down the Tarmac, coach-built rarities normally found in museums. Soon we’ll run with this incredible pack up the Gotthard Pass in Switzerland, closed specially for the occasion. No oncoming traffic, no speed limit.

The event’s organizers claim that the Gotthard Pass has never before been closed for fun, nor has any other street in Switzerland. The road climbs to 6,909 feet over the Saint-Gotthard Massif in the Alps, tying German-speaking Andermatt in the north to Italian-speaking Airolo in the south, a vital link that just so happens to be awesome to drive.

In fact, there are three ways of making it from Andermatt to Airolo. You can drive the original cobblestone route or take the Gotthard Strassentunnel, constructed in 1980 to bypass the altitude and the wiggly bits in an arrow-straight line. The third option is the newer mountain road, built alongside the original cobblestones. What this road lacks in history, it makes up for in driver appeal, geography you’d normally require a parachute to appreciate, and the majestic engineering of its vast tunnels and precipice-spanning bridges. Guess which road we’re taking?

For $3,400, two guests get a night at the Chedi hotel, an evening meal, and the chance to run up the Pass as fast as they like before letting loose on a nearby airfield.

Florian Lemberger, a lawyer specializing in finance, regularly organizes driving events with the Supercar Owners Circle, and he somehow convinced the Swiss authorities to close the Gotthard Pass. In total, 72 supercars are here, the rules dictating that only one example of each may attend, though there’s been some inevitable flex—it’s hard to begrudge a trio of McLaren P1s. There’s definitely only one Maro Engel driving a  race car, though. “It’s a chance to drive the SLS but also a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to drive the Gotthard Pass,” the DTM driver says. “I couldn’t miss that.”

For a pretty reasonable €2,800 (approximately $3,400), two guests get a night at the high-end Chedi hotel in Andermatt (Lemberger’s real estate fund bought the place), an evening meal and presentation, and the chance to run up the Pass as fast as they like before letting loose on a nearby airfield.

Our ride is somewhat modest in this company, but it holds its own: the latest Porsche 911 GT3 with 4.0 liters, 500 horsepower, and a six-speed manual transmission. You’ll pay $144,650, if you can get one. That’s the same as a PDK model, but you get a mechanical—not electronically controlled—locking rear differential and lose 37 pounds, and the 3.8-second 0-60 time is 0.6 second slower.

A day earlier, we collected the car from Stuttgart and were soon driving in pouring rain in one stretch through Germany, touching 160 mph once it dried and traffic thinned on unrestricted autobahns, slowing over the border into Switzerland with its colossal speeding fines, then skirting past Zurich on toward the Alps.

There are detail changes throughout this 991.2-generation GT3: revisions to springs and dampers, a new operating logic for the rear-wheel steering, and a new engine cover and rear wing that sits three-quarters of an inch higher. The latter sounds insignificant, but you notice how much more it impedes rear vision than before. Together with a revised rear diffuser, though, the payback is 20 percent more downforce, Porsche says.

Most crucial of all, a new 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six, the one shared with the GT3 Cup, RSR, and GT3 R race cars, replaces the 3.8. Along with that 500 horsepower, it produces 339 lb-ft of torque, increases of 25 hp and 15 lb-ft over the 3.8. And you of course also get to choose manual or dual-clutch auto.

The 4.0-liter in the previous GT3 RS and R is mind-blowing, but there’s even more energy to how this new GT3 revs, an extra kick to a power delivery that feels entirely free of inertia. Push past 5,000 rpm, and the howl gets even wilder, and when you’re screaming to an outrageous 9,000 rpm, it consumes the cabin. This is easily the best-sounding 911 of the present lineup, a hair-raising soundtrack rivaled by few modern performance cars.

As we arrive in Andermatt, teenagers with $3,000 cameras spill into the road like some hybrid of Hollywood paparazzi and 1980s Group B rally fans. They move in zombielike packs, stirred by the growl of an approaching V-8 or V-12. They know the GT3 is worthy of a picture, but it’s understandable when the hotel valet asks us to park around the back.

A young guy, Johan Jakobsson, seeks us out. He runs what must be an inordinately successful wholesale coffee business (“and a few other companies”) and will drive his Ferrari 458 Speciale over the Gotthard Pass. “The manual?” he asks, eyeing the GT3. “May I sit inside?” He sets the perfect driving position, grips the wheel, and slices the gear lever back and forth with a satisfied grin. “I’ve ordered one,” he says. “I know someone at Porsche. They got me on the list.”

Beneath the hotel, the parking lot is filled with the most remarkable cars you’ll ever see. There’s a Ferrari FXX K, the track-only version of Maranello’s already insane LaFerrari hypercar. The owner fires up the V-12, the almost painful yelp of every throttle stab intensified by the concrete walls.

Nearby there’s a Ferrari F12 TRS (one of two), its body inspired by the 1957 250 Testa Rossa and its silvery gold paint apparently inspired by C-3PO. The driver turns out to be a minder because the real owner can’t be here. He also owns the red one.

There’s an Aston Martin One-77, one of the new-old Jaguar E-type Lightweights, a Maserati MC12, a beautiful Ferrari 250 SWB that’ll be voted car of the meet, and a lovely Porsche 930 Turbo with a RUF CTR conversion.

That evening, I attempt to mingle convincingly with the super-rich. There’s the guy who loaned his McLaren P1 to Ferrari for benchmarking ahead of LaFerrari’s launch; an Italian property developer, he would’ve been in his late 20s back then. Elliot Ross looks even younger, and he owns the 911 GT1. He’s from Scotland, says the GT1’s clutch is heavy; you can’t see out of the cockpit, but he loves it. Oh, he’s also got a Ferrari Enzo and an F50.

Eugenio Amos, 32, owns the CLK GTR, a V-12-powered homologation special made so Mercedes could contest the FIA GT championship of the late 1990s. He says he made money in real estate, has raced in the Blancpain endurance series, and is enjoying the car. “There’s plenty of traction, and even on cold tires or if you drift it, it’s not so bad,” he says. Gah.

More than ever it seems like everyone is building a low-volume sports car. Paolo Garella is here in a Glickenhaus SCG 003 mule; Ameerh Naran runs a private-jet business and has secured an engine deal with BMW for his sports car; the CLK GTR owner plans a “kind of Singer version of a Lancia Delta Integrale” and has created a full-size clay model of the project. There’s even a presentation for the Aston Martin AM37 powerboat.

The next morning, this most extraordinary gathering of supercars fires to life outside the hotel, the constant volleys of revs sounding as though a SWAT team is storming the lobby. With the poor weather, some cars, like the FXX K and TRS, are heading straight to the airfield. The rest roll through Andermatt’s narrow main street, ready to run the Gotthard Pass in small packs at timed intervals. I can hear the first cars leaving, our group edging closer all the time, nerves jangling, the road still disappearing into fog above.

As a flag waves, a Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale leads us away. There’s the gruff growl of its flat-plane-crank V-8, the yell of the 812 Superfast’s V-12 immediately in front, and the induction suck from the GT3’s flat-six as I release the clutch and get back on the gas after each gear change; that’s a markedly different signature from a GT3 with a PDK. As the rock faces close in to our right, the rush of mechanical noise combines into one swirling din, soaring on the straights, rumbling through the corners.

The GT3 feels sensational. There’s no doubt the PDK shifts faster, but the physicality of the manual definitely adds another dimension of interactivity: The short little shift lever demands you work a bit to pull it home, and the clutch is delectable with its midweighted heft and oily consistency. Some might find the brake is higher than ideal for heel-and-toe downshifts; you might have to roll your foot over excessively to blip the throttle during downchanges. At least the blips come automatically in Sport mode.

But the precision of the GT3’s steering—there’s more definition at its top-dead-center, perhaps a side effect of the chassis tweaks—the violent stopping power of its carbon-ceramic brakes, the car’s perfect balance, and the way its feral speed never feels like it’ll overload the chassis unless you demand it are unreal. It is difficult to imagine feeling more at ease in anything else here.

 “What an unbelievable event,” he says as we pull to a stop. “I’ve never experienced anything like it.”

The road flows so smoothly as it rises from the valley that there’s little need to brake hard initially, but the wet, high-speed kinks get me wobbling at the wheel, praying the Porsche’s cold front tires bite. They always do. We climb quickly, and the route becomes more technical, ascending aggressively through hairpins, those kids stepping out into the road again, digging for YouTube gold and—you’ve got to assume—desperate for us to crash.

Someone tries. As we approach the summit, the road enters a tunnel that hugs the mountainside, protecting the road from rock falls and avalanches. I hear the 812 accelerate, presumably the better to hear its raucous V-12 melody. We’re doing probably 80 mph, and as the revs flick up, I watch the Ferrari’s back end snap out of line, the wiggle quickly slapped down by electronics. It’s probably no bad thing that the fog becomes much thicker as we reach the top of the Pass, forcing the pack to slow ahead of the checkered flag.

I park, unable to see more than the road around me, and wait for photographer Richard Pardon to get a ride to meet me as one extraordinary car after another punches like a phantom from the gloom. No one, it seems, balled themselves up.

Writer and photographer reunited, we run with a Lamborghini Aventador S Roadster with Monaco plates toward Airolo, and as the fog lifts, its V-12 battle cry rises, slamming gear changes giving a throaty punctuation to the soundtrack. The GT3 never loses touch.

At the airfield, suddenly it’s a summer day, and we watch as McLaren P1s duel against Porsche 918 Spyders in hypercar drag races. They accelerate off the line like marbles fired from stretched elastic bands, a sonic blur of screeching tires and hybrid-powered fury, the crowd peering into the distance, unable to see whether England or Germany actually won, just two hypercars on fast-forward vanishing in the haze.

As the rock faces close in to our right, the rush of mechanical noise combines into one swirling din, soaring on the straights, rumbling through the corners.

The GT3 feels sensational. There’s no doubt the PDK shifts faster, but the physicality of the manual definitely adds another dimension of interactivity: The short little shift lever demands you work a bit to pull it home, and the clutch is delectable with its midweighted heft and oily consistency. Some might find the brake is higher than ideal for heel-and-toe downshifts; you might have to roll your foot over excessively to blip the throttle during downchanges. At least the blips come automatically in Sport mode.

But the precision of the GT3’s steering—there’s more definition at its top-dead-center, perhaps a side effect of the chassis tweaks—the violent stopping power of its carbon-ceramic brakes, the car’s perfect balance, and the way its feral speed never feels like it’ll overload the chassis unless you demand it are unreal. It is difficult to imagine feeling more at ease in anything else here.

I park, unable to see more than the road around me, and wait for photographer Richard Pardon to get a ride to meet me as one extraordinary car after another punches like a phantom from the gloom. No one, it seems, balled themselves up.

Writer and photographer reunited, we run with a Lamborghini Aventador S Roadster with Monaco plates toward Airolo, and as the fog lifts, its V-12 battle cry rises, slamming gear changes giving a throaty punctuation to the soundtrack. The GT3 never loses touch.

At the airfield, suddenly it’s a summer day, and we watch as McLaren P1s duel against Porsche 918 Spyders in hypercar drag races. They accelerate off the line like marbles fired from stretched elastic bands, a sonic blur of screeching tires and hybrid-powered fury, the crowd peering into the distance, unable to see whether England or Germany actually won, just two hypercars on fast-forward vanishing in the haze.

Hello, today was amazing, it was one of the best days I have had this year. Since we have no school tomorrow today is the last day then we have Spring Break! WOOHOO! So anyway the school day was ok, as we were finishing the decor for the Rally and the MORP dance, we were tying three balloons together to put on a balloon arch, well I tried anyway. I got the first two tied, but shortly after it either almost immediately became undone or it became undone when I tried tying the 3rd one. And need I remind you I made around 5 attempts before I gave up, those balloons hate me or something. I tried them right, the crisss-cross then the tie, it is so basic but fuck me right. Anyway at the end of 5th period Neko was doing a cheap Russian accent and I told Maddie so I walking up to him and explained to him how Russians pronounce the W like a V and that your tongue should be more flat as that is how slavic speakers talk apposed to the romance language speakers who’s tongues are more upward. He tried getting me to do an accent and I said Slavic with a Russian accent and he loved it, as Maddie, David and him her walking out of class together he told them how I schooled him on pronunciation and jokingly said he should take classes from me, lol. So after school I head towards the Rally as it was today and a surprising amount of people came and loved it. Cool enough Amanda was coincidentally sitting behind me. The rally was great, I had no idea the Mr. Bassy knew how to play the drums and so well I might add, him and Molly played them so well. Molly is becoming really well known in Solano and is getting a lot of support, I am so proud of her. Afterwards I walked to Mr. Riley’s room for no real reason, Cesi came in to get his keys to get into the little threater to get her keys and told me the set up for MORP was at 5:30pm so as I leave the front door I and walk told the walk area, I turn around and Amanda is there and we talk about the MORP dance being at 7pm and how I needed to be there at what Cesi said was 5:30 but come to find out was officially 6pm. She offered me a ride and I was debating with her on how I could get a white shirt for the color run where we throw powdered paint at the runners on a path. During this conversation, I noticed Sophia was walking behind Amanda by several feet and i asked why she was at school and she said she was looking for someone and I totally should have used that chance to give her a hug but it did not cross my mind like usual. Sarah comes over soon after and we just talk about random stuff like medication for horses and make up, like my cover up I use for my acne. She leaves after getting picked up as she was waiting for a ride. So then I proceed to call my mother to see if she had the car so I could go to the store to buy a shirt but she didn’t and said she would look for a shirt. But I took Amanda up on her kind offer to go to Michael’s to buy a white shirt. Her car was messy but so are most people’s cars. So anyway we get there and look at the large white shirts as the last time I bought a blue there in medium size it barely fit but the large white looked too big, but the medium surprisingly looked like it would fit. So as we are in line I offer to buy her candy as she was looking at them but she declined the offer, and soon after she notices Lawson and Stephen walking down to the shirts so I told her to so turn around so they don’t notice us as my plan was to buy the shirt and sneak up on them but we weren’t fast enough and they got in line and noticed us so we walking over to them and Lawson was holding a black shirt and a white shirt which I wondered why but did not get a clear answer besides for the dance. Stephen asked if I am going to his and Beth’s party tonight but I decline as I am not a party person, I wouldn’t know most people there, and the fact my home is a police state and my parents would never let me go to a party let alone one late at night. So we leave and she drops me off but before I get out of the car I give her a thank you hug and then go inside my home. Mother and my older sister Nina had apparently found a white shirt actually and mother got a bit upset that I bought one but to be honest I bought it because I did not think they’d actually find one, besides the new one was better. So after listening to some music I take a nice warm shower to get clean for the dance. I worse my green converse, the new white shirt and my black jogging pants. Mother put some cover up on my face for my acne. Father dropped me off at 5:29pm so I was very early. I said Hi to Maddie as she was with her orchestra friends. I knock on MS. Sullivan’s door to see what the official time was as my text to Melissa was not replied to. She said it was officially at 6pm and that I could hang out in her room but I declined the offer and said I wanted to walk around. After walking around for a couple of minutes I return to the quad only to meet up with Cassidy, Biane, and some new girl who’s name escapes me. They had Starbucks and Cass was sad as she said she should have gotten something for me but I said it was fine. I did appreciate the thought though. SO we start getting to work by going to the gym and seeing what’s what, then we go the little theater to look for the posters, we looked int he back stage and we couldn’t fine the light for like 5 minutes until Cass found it down the starts leading to the music room. I am not used to being in the back stage so it was new to me, what we thought were old posters from the MR. GQ event they we thought we could use, turned out to be for something else that escapes me, so we look for the posters on the other side. There is this little stairway down that leads to this little storage space but it also has an elevator for wheelchairs, what was funny was that Biane didn’t see the handle for the space so Ms. Sullivan jumped the gate only for it to open on her, we all laughed hard because she thought it was locked for some reason. I soon after came up with the idea to check the Student Counsel Storage room which Ms. Sullivan gave me credit for for having such a great idea, anyway we find the posters and the boxes painted as Rubik’s cubes and stereos in there. I grabbed all the “stereos” but they were too tall stacked up for the door so Cass helps me when her and the new girl walk in and see me struggling and the new girl grabbed the big Rubik’s Cube and we all walked over to the gym. And the a bunch of Link Crew people arrive to help out. Lauren also does too and we all start putting up posters. Lauren, Cassidy and a few others hang out the Mr. Riley’s room for a bit so Lauren could do her make-up and we talked about how I have never been to Dutch Bros or Chick Fil A, and everyone one is surprised. So Lauren starts talking about how her and Cass should bring me to to those places some time. Including the other small chatter it was fun, then we get back to the gym to do posters and I mention how my dad gets me clothes from the dumpster sometimes because he likes dumpster diving and from his work randomly and she was shocked and hilariously said he should see a doctor. She also comically asked if I wanted to move in with her lol. She kept saying how she would teach me how to yike when the dance started and I was my usual uncomfortable self about such odd activity, she also intentionally made me feel uncomfortable to be funny but acting like she was going to yike on me, she said it was easy to do, which is true. So then we go back to the room so that I could get tape for the posters but there isn’t any more so I give up and when we get so Lauren could get her hair curled, which Cesi did, and I said how I couldn’t do it because I didn’t want to burn her as I have never had practice and would need someone who who tolerate burns without slapping me or a wig bust to learn how. Lauren asked if I wanted to be one of those hair people but I said no, I just wanted to learn how as it’s a nice skill and that my mother also said it would be a good idea as girls like a guy who can do hair. She then asked out of no where if I was ever going to tell my parents that i liked girls and I said that my mother may be accepting but the rest of my family wouldn’t be. Cesi said I should tell my mother. I told them how I have to bottle in how I feel and how it’s slowly killing me on the inside emotionally. They were very supportive and how it must feel terrible. Lauren said if she was a lesbian that her parent’s would eventually accept her. Sarah came in and Lauren told her the fact that  I liked guys. Link crew peoples were fine to tell, plus I trusted Lauren to tell the right people even though I was so nervous that she was telling others about it but she was speaking softly and I forget her justification. But anyway it made me feel so great and motivated me to act more myself and be more confident about liking guys. Lauren again offers for me to live with her which I just found so sweet. Cesi is such a cool person by the way, the room isn’t the same without her. So after her hair was done, we all compliment Lauren’s now wavy hair. And then we start getting work on stuff, I and two other girls make new posters for the ticket sales because the last poster was messed up, then we got the paint powder out and threw it on eachother. I was just caked in it but I loved it, my whole body was covered. So when the color run happened everyone switched between different colors to throw and it was so much fun. I started out helping Cesi with the blue but then switched to other colors independently. The runners loved it and it lasted until 8pm, so about half an hour. Then the dance started but it took a while for most people to show up. Selena had to use the restroom so I took over the scanner but did not know how to use it so I did wrist bands while Sarah did the scanner with Lawson watching. Selena and the others never came back. I called Amanda as to know when she was showing up and she said she just left her home. When she called me I was too busy putting bands on people’s wrists to answer it but it was fine as she just went in and waiting for me with her friend. I then had Lawson cover for me so I could go in. Now I never did dance but with one of the songs Amanda kept making me crouch when the song said to go low. I don’t know how to dance and so it frustrated me that she kept saying go with the flow but there is no flow to follow as my arms and ass are too shy to express themselves. So i sort of give stood there while being touched and pushed by a bunch of people who were dancing and walking past. I felt so uncomfortable yet happy that I was at least hanging out with Amanda. I kept leaving to get water or fresh air as it was humid in there and hot. After a few times of leaving I start feeling incredibly sad that I can’t dance I felt like an idiot for doing nothing. Lauren wasn’t there to teach me anything and Amanda didn’t show me anything so I spent a few minutes in the bathroom crying at the fact I am trying to act normal and was failing. So i get out and get some fresh air before going back in, and after hanging out with Amanda for a couple of minutes I go to get some water and Selena grabs my hips like she was yiking on me and I panic and turn around quickly only to hit my head on the rim of the metal. And so i leave and I tell Mr. Riley how it essentially smells like B.O. and bad choices, which he relayed to Kalvin and Ms. Sullivan who also found it funny and said it was so true. I and still remember how loud Mr. Riley laughed, it was funny. Anyway as it was reaching the end of the dance my mother and sister call me to see when the party ends and tell them 10:30pm and that there is also clean up, to which they essentially did not understand between each other. My mother as going to call Alex to pick me up since father was going to bed. And at this time, Mattie left because he didn’t like a lot of dancing and so Lauren looked a bit sad, and I tried to cheer her up but it didn’t work. Anyway when she heard about my dilemma, she offered to drive me home since she couldn’t that one time it was almost raining but she was late for work so she couldn’t give me a ride but luckily for me it didn’t rain on me. It made me very happy. So then I call my mother to tell her the news and she said it was fine. So then we all started to clean up. I also called Amanda to tell her I was sorry that i left at the last several minutes because Ms. Sullivan asked me if I could check to see if the dumpsters were open which they were and then we told each other good night. Soon after Cassidy, LJ, and I move a table to the little theater and Lauren asks me if I am going to the Prom to which  said yes and she gets all excited and I tell her I am going with Maria and Amanda. I also told her that my sister was going to help me rent a tux and she says “aw” and goes all goo goo about thinking of me in a tux going to prom with two girls. It was funny ad made me happy. So after we were dismissed Lauren and I head to her truck while Cassidy went to her car so she could follow Lauren so after I was dropped off they could get some food. I wish I could have gone along, I have $20 in my wallet but my parents wouldn’t have let me out later than that dance. So anyway I tell her the usual directions, straight down the road, lake a left at the fork then turn left at the 7/11 and it’s the apartment complex with the cross on it next to the big ass tree. She drove into the driveway of the next apartment complex by accident but it was fine because that one was a path that went around easily, vs having to turn around in the small parking lot of my complex. Anyway since the fence is basically missing I just walked over after saying thanks and good night. In hindsight I should have given her a hug but I was too happy about what transpired today. I’ll give her one next time I see her. So anyway I get inside my home and take a shower and stuff then I text her thanking her for the ride, and now I’m off to bed early on a free night, because my legs are damn sore and my lower back hurts like fucking hell.
