Sculpture Proposals On Display For Public Input

The San Marcos Arts Commission recently had a sculpture viewing involving artists who want their work to be on permanent display in the city.  

Four artists were chosen to present their scale models for public discussion. San Marcos residents will have a chance to vote on the sculptures by filling out a form on which they critique the sculptures’ movement and color. 

“Anything that involves the public in the expenditure the public funds deserves public input and when we’re talking about public art these are thing we’re going to live with in out community for years to come,” said Recreation Programs Manager Lisa Morris.

The sculpture designs have several purposes: to enhance the beauty of San Marcos, promote tourism, and to highlight the endangered species living in the San Marcos River.

“I sort of see kids as the future and if there is a concern for endangered species that is where the solution is going to lie,” said Sculptor Robertus Joost van der Wege. 

The Final Texas Kinetic Blind Salamander Sculpture will be placed in the city’s sculpture garden located next to the San Marcos River.
