SOCIAL DISTANCING DAY 221. Had two martinis and a wonderful time at what I’ll call the “wake” for Debi Keay after the memorial service for her sudden, unexpected, jarring and sad-making passing-away. @chrisbeatty22 , pictured (on the right), made sure I stopped drinking booze and got some coffee and finished my water in time to drive safely (which I did, I was fine) because even though some of us first knew him as the youngster art intern in the Broad Ripple house where @youngandlaramore started, or our careers there did anyway, Chris is a responsible adult. He hides it, but that’s what he is. He also made sure Meg K. got back to her place safely. Wonderful nostalgic time catching up with those two and Jane K. and her husband, and a whole bunch of other friends and confidantes of Debi Keay including Mark L. (pictured, left). It’s easy to say that a warm and well-enjoyed evening catching up with mutual friends is what DK would have wanted; who knows? One of her gifts was surprising honesty and humorously blunt opinions. She connected together a whole lot of disparate people and they all agree she wasn’t like anyone else they knew; but I bet Debi made them all feel like co-conspirators, worthy of her frank assessments of any situation and “in on it,” whatever “it” was. She would have enjoyed the evening, I think. I did. I enjoyed two martinis and all of Debi’s friends. And even though that photo didn’t come out, quite, I think it captures how we were all feeling. Maybe.
