Heartdresser | LH44
― Pairing: Lewis Hamilton x braider!reader ― Warning: mentions of a brother, social media au mixed with regular writing, tooth-rotting fluff, fem!reader (she/her); - 2.8k words + social media setting. ― Summary: When Lewis finds himself just a couple days away from a racing weekend and without his usual braids he desperately searches for suggestions of available hairdressers in the area. As the saying goes, love can come from the most unexpected places, and Lewis is about to discover that this is, in fact, true. (based on this request)

Being a Formula One Driver had its perks, from obvious and big things such as traveling everywhere to not-so-obvious and small things like having your hair stylist travel to you when you needed them. After becoming an adult and famous, it took Lewis a couple of years to come to terms with his hair, how to style it, how to take care of it, and how to embrace the texture and volume. He felt finally whole when he reached that point, one where meaningless comments on the internet wouldn’t make him rethink his path, goals, and achievements. Of course, comments hurt, but being comfortable with yourself helped, and that was something Lewis learned.
Now, his braids were part of him. The hairstyle being associated with his image in the blink of an eye. Something that made him feel handsome, and connected with his roots. Something that seemed to help other young black boys around, who started to see themselves as stylish and handsome too.
That’s the main reason why he was so frustrated when his braider called him to tell them they couldn’t make it to Las Vegas. And the thing with braids is that it's not only a style that connects you to your roots, and makes you feel comfortable, it is also a hair protection style. Though Lewis doesn’t tell people he has superstitions and somehow it is true, part of him feels like he races better when he’s feeling himself in all senses of the word. This means having his hair in the braids he’s been looking forward to for over two weeks is something important to him.
So in the heat of the moment, he decides to look for help on Twitter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Hi, you must be Lewis,” you smile, extending your hands, and the man in front of you takes it in with a grin.
“Hey, good afternoon,” his grip is still thigh yet soft on your hand. “Yeah, it’s me. Thank you for having me on such short notice.” He’s handsome and polite in all the ways one should be to be considered perfect, and you start to understand why your baby brother was drawn to admire his persona outside the tracks.
You shake your head with a chuckle, “It was actually my day off, but I had no problem fitting you in since it meant Dee would get to meet you.”
“Oh- honesty is something I find hot,” he chuckles and adds a grin for good measure, all while looking straight into your eyes and you can’t help but laugh.
Add funny to the list of things Lewis Hamilton seems to be.
“Who’s Dee, by the way?”
“It’s Aiyden, my little brother. I call him Dee,” you explain before adding, “He’s finishing a Chemistry project with a few friends at school. He was tempted to skip but gave up after a pep talk on how school is important, and I would take forever doing your hair just so he could see you.”
Lewis nods while you explain, and then he’s chuckling just like minutes ago.
“I don’t mind waiting for him with you,” he winks.
You’re not sure if he’s being friendly, funny, or flirty, but any of these F words coming from the black guy in front of you are surely making your heart skip a beat.
“You can sit here while I grab everything,” you point to a chair in front of a big mirror and Lewis does as said.
“Your hair looks fire,” he comments, watching from the mirror while you go through the small saloon gathering the packs of hair and combs you would need. “Did you do it yourself?”
“Thanks,” you stop just for a second, smiling when your eyes meet. “And yeah, I did it just last weekend.”
“You look even more stunning with this style,” and just like that he has you giggling again. “I mean it. I saw your profile picture and I was convinced you couldn’t get more beautiful, and then you opened that door with a smile and these amazing braids and I was like wow.” “You’re a funny one.”
“I’ve heard some women like their man funny, is that your case? If so, I’m ready to get into stand-up comedy.”
You double with laughter, shaking your head and biting your lips to keep the funny noises inside.
“Same style you’ve sent me the picture?” Lewis nods. “Any addition or preference?” you ask, starting to section his hair, and he answers no while making himself comfortable on the chair.
And even though you joked about taking forever just so your brother would catch Lewis, you ended up really taking forever because the driver in front of you would joke around and give you flirty comments and you couldn’t help but stop to laugh. The style he wanted was fairly fast, and his curls weren’t that thick, but still, you two did a small snack break when he ordered from a vegan bakery downtown. He was a fun guy to talk to, you came to learn that pretty quickly, which only added to his face card, which certainly was never denied.
It was one of the best sessions you’ve had in a long time.
You were just finishing the final touches, adding water to boil, and cutting the small strands coming off the braids, when the bell over the door rang, announcing your little brother’s arrival. He has an incredulous expression on his face watching his idol sitting on the chair of his sister’s salon.
“Hey man, how was the chem’s project?” Lewis asks and Aiyden turns around to the door, doing a small victory dance and, probably, the most hideous expressions to conceal his eagerness and happiness.
You and Lewis laugh.
“Omg, hi, Lewis!” He finally walks to you, shaking hands with Lewis. His eyes – big orbs gleaming with excitement.
“Aren’t you gonna say hi to your sister, young man?” with your hands on your waist you furrow your brows in the direction of the curly-haired boy who smiles, engulfing your body in a big hug. You hug him back before tapping his back and fake complaining about how he was crushing you.
Aiyden had just turned fifteen, but his love for sports seemed to help him defy your DNA and grow more than your family’s average size. He was almost reaching your height, and he sure was stronger than you, but he was still just your baby boy.
“These new braids are lit, man! Told ya my sister would make it happen,” Ayiden, who still has one of his arms around your shoulders, tells Lewis with a proud smile.
The driver moves his head confidently checking his hair in the mirror, “She was a great braider, and even better company, to be honest.”
Yn rolls her eyes playfully before going back to the water and mentioning for Ayiden to take a step back. She dips the ends of the braids into the water, waiting for a bit before taking them off and draping a towel around Lewis’ broad shoulders.
“So, your sister mentioned a chem school project. How was it?”
And just like that Ayiden and Lewis are talking non-stop while you tidy the salon, watching their interaction with a fond smile. The Brit was attentive to your brother, always ready to listen rather than speak, always engaging, and making Ayiden feel comfortable to share whatever he wanted to.
He probably had no idea, but that was an easy way to get to your heart. Ayiden was your treasure, and the fact that Lewis was treating the boy as if he was his little treasure too only added to the list of things you found amazing about him.
“...right, Yn?” Dee asked and you snapped out of your daydream.
“What?”
“Lewis just invited us to the Vegas GP, I said we were going, right? Please, please, please,” he pleaded in front of you with his two hands together as if in prayer, and you bit the inside of your mouth.
“Sunday?”
“No, the whole package, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday!” he explained excitedly.
“It will be fun, c’mon,” Lewis tried.
“You have school on Friday.” You reasoned, but Ayiden was quick to explain that Friday wouldn’t be until 6 pm. “You’re the one asking Kali to get my appointments from Saturday,” pointing a finger to your brother you accepted, knowing that your friend and coworker, had a space on Saturday for a hair or two and wouldn’t mind covering so your clients wouldn’t be hanging out to dry. Still, she would probably huff and yapp before accepting. That was something that Ayiden would now deal with though, so you were all good.
Ayiden jumped up and down the same way he did when he was ten years old asking you to get him a new pair of soccer jerseys, and you accepted. It was endearing.
You talked for a few more minutes, Ayiden got his picture, and just like that Lewis was saying his farewells. This time he didn’t shake your hands, rather hugged you and you couldn’t help but breathe in his scent and relish his warmth.
“See you on Friday, guys,” he waved, showing off his perfect set of teeth.
“See you, man!”

yourfriend I spent an hour on traffic today in a road that usually takes me about ten minutes 🫠
yourfriend2 bruh, ayideen is getting bigger and bigger, I feel OLD 😭
Friday rolled around quickly and you got to watch the total amount of fifteen minutes of practice 1 before all hell broke. Ayiden explained everything to you along with the whole controversy going on with the LA Gran Prix, which you were just a tad aware of. Lewis wasn’t able to spend much time with you guys that much was expected, but whenever he found a few seconds he would pass by, ask if you guys were ok, if Dee was having fun if there was something he could do, and just overall being the goofy Lewis he was during the appointment. Ayiden seemed to find the flirtatious glances and lines funny, and so did you, except this time it felt a little more real because you were sure a few people around overheard some.
It was an amazing night, you made friends with a couple of people from the crew, and Ayiden had the time of his life meeting a few other idols, and almost started hyperventilating when Hamilton told him he would take him to meet Charles Leclerc on Sunday.
Saturday was even more of a rush, you almost didn’t see Lewis, but he texted before and after quali. So when Sunday came you were still trying to navigate the whole paddock thing, but a bit more comfortable about it. Aiyden was still acting as if it was his own version of Disney land and it was his first day discovering the adventure world. You were loving it for him, of course.
“Nice outfit,” Lewis whispers right beside you, catching you off guard and making you jump in surprise. You were in a corner, just texting a friend, and checking your next few appointments while Ayiden went to meet Charles and you thought Lewis would be there until he came back, but it wasn’t the case.
“You’re sneaky,” you chuckled, straightening your instance and looking into his face only to notice he was already staring at you.
“You look cute when you’re focused,” he winks, before adding, “and when you’re scared too.”
“You look cute when you joke like this,” throwing back at him you didn’t expect for his brows to furrow in confusion.
“You think I’m joking?”
“Aren’t you?”
Lewis giggles. He giggles and you can’t help but smile with the sound and the way his lips part while his eyes squint. “I’m not.”
“You’re not?!”
“I think you’re pretty and smart, and talented. I was genuinely flirting with you,” his explanation makes your insides turn in giddiness, and as if it wasn’t enough Lewis smiles, eyes glued on yours before he asks: “Wanna go on a date with me?”
“A date?” You repeat trying to let the idea sink.
“A date?” This time it’s Ayiden’s voice and you turn alarmed, expecting to see a confused and jealous brother, only to find him with the biggest grin ever.
“Yeah, a date,” Lewis smiles briefly to Ayiden, before staring back at you, waiting for your answer.
You blink still unsure. Fair enough, he was hot, educated, smart, and he checked all the boxes, but that wasn’t any guarantee of a successful relationship, or fling, or whatever he had in mind. And also, his lifestyle wasn’t something you were used to. How would dating him work when he’s often traveling around to drive?
“C’mon, don’t overthink it, Yn.” Ayiden comes to help, standing beside Lewis and the Brit chuckles. “It’s THE SIR Lewis Hamilton,” he points, and this time Lewis laughs.
You bit your lips, not helping but letting a smile escape.
Lewis is in front of you, hands in his pockets, big brown eyes watching you, and the smallest smile gracing the corner of his plump lips. He looked great. And as much as you wanted to deny, there was a vibe going on.
You take a deep breath, smirking at him, “Get yourself a podium and we’ll talk about a date later.”
Ayiden’s eyes widened.
“Did you forget how quali went?! It’s gonna be hell to get a podium, almost impossible,” your brother tries to reason, but Lewis shakes his head, extending his hand to which you clasp in yours.
“Deal,” the driver smiles. “I’ll get you a podium.”
Lewis squeezes Ayiden’s shoulder and winks at you before disappearing into the garage to get ready for the race.
“One more reason why he’s the goat, see? If I were you I would go on a date with him even if he didn’t get a podium.”
You laugh, “For the few things I saw, he likes the challenge. Let me indulge him.”
“You’re crazy.”
“And he’ll get a podium.”
“It’s very unlikely, but I won’t deny the possibility. It’s Lewis after all.” Your brother leans on the wall beside you. “And it looks like he wants this date bad.”
“What makes you think this?”
“C’mon, he’s been flirting with you nonstop since the hair appointment.”
“I genuinely thought he was joking.”
“You can be so clueless sometimes,” your brother rolls his eyes playfully and you slap the back of his head.
“Watch it, young man, I’m still the oldest.”
And you were still right too, because hours later Lewis impressed everyone by getting third place. He kept everyone on the edge of their seats along with Charles who did a brilliant race, and just like that your brother was grinning devilishly your way because now you had a date with no one other than Lewis Hamilton who happened to walk into the garage just as you were handling a water bottle to Dee after he ran to watch the ceremony as if his life depended on it.
Lewis was smiling brightly at you, sweat mixed with champagne, but you couldn’t help but grin right back and lace your arms around him, taking him by surprise.
“I’m all sweaty, sorry,” he whispers, his tattooed hand flatting on your bag and bringing your body closer.
“It’s fine. Congrats on the race.”
“Congrats on the race, man!” Ayiden hugs him too and Lewis smiles, eyes still trapped on you. When your brother lets him go and stays rooted in place looking from you to Lewis you trap the laugh inside, and roll your eyes fakely, pointing for the young boy to give you both some privacy.
“So, looks like I scored myself a date, huh?”
You nod, taking a small step in his direction and trying to keep your hands from tracing all the small details on his face from this up close, “You sure did.” Your eyes were now on his lips, and Lewis grinned.
“Can I ask you something?”
“You already have a date, what else do you wanna ask me?” You’re teasing and he knows it because this time he’s the one to take a step in your direction. The tips of your shoes are touching, and you can hear the rustling outside, but it’s just you two in the corridor, and you hope it stays like this for just a little longer even though you knew he had an interview in a few minutes. His company and attention are something you enjoyed having.
“With how many dates do you find it ok to kiss someone?” His playful tone is there, but his expression makes your knees almost buck. “Can we count practice, quali, and the race as dates?”
And just like that he has you laughing and grabbing his neck to close the distance and smash your lips in a very much-awaited kiss.

I'm gonna admit that I got on Twitter like a big ol' dramatic dork last night and said, knowing full well that Elon Musk was doing exactly this, "If he changes the name to X, I'm out, I can't do this anymore."
Not because "X" is doofy and a terrible branding move, although it is, but because he wants to do THIS shit. Yeah, no, I am not hanging around for your global interactivity "everything app" bullshit. You want me to fucking BANK with you? YOU? You just lost about $30B running a platform into the GROUND by FIRING EVERYONE and doing whatever damn thing popped into your head between shitposts? Are you HIGH? I cannot hang around for this "tech king of the world, 420 blaze it lmao" bullshit. I could not stay at my beloved Livejournal after SUP said all the users would be subject to Russian law in 2017. I know The Moment when I see it. I can't do this.
I admit, I might go back every few months and say "Hey, I posted XYZ on any platform but this, please leave this godforsaken place," and I don't want to delete my accounts. I've been on Twitter since 2008, and I have a ton of livetweet threads (on my main and also on an alt for that purpose. Remember that time I livetweeted the Twilight gender-change book? That glorious trainwreck?). I've saved some of them via Thread Reader PDF downloads, but there are still more to get. I don't want to utterly destroy book and TV discussion we did over there.
I haven't used Twitter regularly since maybe 2016 (about the time the post-Gamergate alt-right really moved in), but the conversation and community, decentralized though it was, before that--we're going to lose the last vestiges of that, the way everyone on Reddit was upset about losing the collective knowledge over there. And I'm so fucking angry about it. I'm so angry. I immediately came back here the week he took over last year because I knew, I KNEW, somehow that Twitter would be destroyed. I just thought it would burn down in a smoking heap of rubble, not turned into a shambling tech zombie under a different name. I just. I can't do this anymore.
Also, shut the fuck up, Linda Yaccarino. Just because you can put Elon Musk's nonsense into coherent verbiage doesn't mean "a global social media/marketplace/banking system/walled garden that's basically X-Treme AOL" isn't a fucking nightmare. I hope the EU bans the fuck out of you both. See you in bankruptcy court.

The Definition of Jikook: Through Others Eyes
“Becca, how would you define Jikook?” In the last few months I have been asked this several times. And not by Jikookers. Since my bad experiences with offline events, I decided (in typical “me” fashion) to just throw myself out there and keep moving forward. This included joining more Twitter GC’s or Discord Servers and going to more offline events. In one of the most recent events, I lived locally and wanted to help. Therefore, I offered to escort some anxious Army from the train station to the venue.
Anyway, I was still cautious about going and, though there were a few odd moments, the event went really well overall. Something else kindled during this event that I did not expect: The desire to talk more about jikook. Before, even mentioning Jikook as a unit and not as Jimin and Jungkook was almost seen as a taboo. Especially compared to the other units that we are familiar with. Due to me no longer giving a damn and using my main twitter account, people relating to the event knew who I was and they had questions. Very interesting questions. About Jikook. About their enlistment. About the travel show. This was a pleasant surprise and it shocked me that some of these people already knew quite a lot without me telling them anything. Including some information that I thought was only in the Jikook circles. I asked one person why they didn’t talk about Jikook as much on Twitter and they said because they were scared with all the shipper fights. Which is quite valid really. If all you see whenever Jikook is mentioned is constant fighting, then you would distance yourself. It made me realise something though:
Even if someone isn’t talking about Jikook. They are still watching and are very much aware of what is going on.
Sometimes we amplify the wrong things and we give the loudest voices to the negative comments. When I do the Live Reactions series, I will sometimes have hundreds of positive screenshots to go through and then(somehow) pick twenty-five of them for the thread. It was really interesting to see so many people talking about Jungkook going Live whenever Jimin went overseas or about the travel show. It also reminded some of moments that were sadly forgotten about.
This touches on something else too. Our traditions as a fandom have somewhat changed. With the removal of the social media awards, we no longer boost BTS’ history like we used to. Elon has also changed how we find content, with the removal of “moments” and advanced searching now being really difficult to find things. There is still hope though. With Jin’s return, it was lovely to see so many asking about Jin as a person or how Festa would work. Sharing old memories and watching Bang Bang Con together added so much value to our experiences together as a fandom. It’s something we should treasure.
BTS have shared so much with us and it’s why I’ll forever be thankful for archive accounts. With every post or comment shared with others, we encourage them to learn more about the members or to watch content they may not have seen before. I experienced this myself when I mentioned Bon Voyage to someone who didn’t know what it was. They had only watched “In the Soop” and were excited by the concept of the members going abroad together. I hope they enjoy it!
Going back to Jikook, I have seen an increase of positive engagement surrounding them. This includes in both online and offline spaces. It makes me excited for when the travel show comes out and the conversations it will create, with so many already floating around. When I am asked how I define them myself, I try to turn it around. It doesn’t matter what I think about Jikook or how I define them. That should be obvious by my account. What matters is how others do and the respect that it holds.

Sanctuary.
That’s how you viewed the medical room at the Nelson Road Stadium.
It was supply order day, which meant it was a day with your headphones in, going through inventory for yourself and for the physical therapists before placing the order, and resorting the stock if need be. It normally took all day, and you were only interrupted if someone got hurt or sick on the pitch, which wasn’t often on non-match days. So you could expect to spend the entire day by yourself.
You were sitting on the floor of the supply room, tapping your feet against the grey tile as you wrote down how many leg splints were on the shelf. Quietly, you were singing along to the song playing. At least, you thought it was quietly, but it was hard to tell over the music. It wasn’t something you bothered about though. No one would hear it even if you sang at the top of your lungs. Resting on the floor next to you was the two way radio, turned up loud so you’d be able to hear it, in case of emergency.
Over the two days that had passed since Keeley’s party, you had tried very hard not to think about Jamie or the conundrum he had put you in. It proved to be especially helpful to your mental health if you didn’t. The solution was a simple one. Everyone would just be informed of the breakup, stating that you weren’t ready for a relationship or things just didn’t work out or whatever, and then everything would go back to normal. And normal was something you yearned incredibly hard for.
Movement out of the corner of your eye alerted you that you were not alone. Slowly, you turned, finding Jamie Tartt leaning against the door of the supply closet.
A loud shriek left your mouth while you scrambled to your feet. As you ripped your headphones from your ears, he raised his hands apologetically.
“Sorry, sorry,” He said in a quiet tone. The expression on his face read a mix of guilt and amusement. “I didn’t want to interrupt ya, but I need to talk to ya.”
You didn’t say anything, instead stuffing your headphones in your pocket and waiting. He also had his hands in his pockets, looking almost as uncomfortable as you did. After a moment, he sighed as he pulled his phone out.
“Do you have Twitter?”
Your eyes narrowed. That was the last thing you expected him to say.
“I- uhm… I got rid of my social media,” You admitted, pulling your hand from your pocket to run it up and down your opposite forearm. “Last year.” He nodded without looking up, and you were surprised when he didn’t push the issue. Most people would question you to no end about how you could live without social media. It was refreshing, to say the least.
Jamie intently searched his phone before, hesitantly, handing it over to you. For a moment, you just stared at it. Whatever it was that he was trying to share, you knew you just by the look on his face that you weren’t going to like it. Maybe it would be best if you just didn’t know. He urged you to take it, as if he read your mind.
“You need to know, too.”
At that, your eyes met his. They were sad. Almost regretful. Without breaking eye contact, you slowly took the phone before looking down at it.
What you found were pages and pages of tweets about you and Jamie, pictures of you and him laying together and also some with his arm around you from the party, attached to almost each one. You were named directly in all of them. It was so tempting to read each one, especially the ones where they picked you apart by your appearance and called you names. They still caught your eye, as hard as you tried, and each one felt like a bullet in the chest.
“Who leaked these?” You asked him as you finally forced yourself to look away. All he could do was shrug.
“Keeley said she would try to find out, but the source was anonymous,” He said. “It could’ve been anyone at that party.” Your phone suddenly felt very heavy in your pocket.
He’s going to see it.
He’s going to see it.
You wanted to scream as you handed Jamie back his phone.
“I’m sorry,” He said, sincerely. “I never meant for any of this to happen. You were so upset that night, I felt ‘orrible.” You shook your head.
“It’s fine, Jamie,” You said. “I’m not mad at you. I mean…” You smiled slightly. “I definitely was mad at you. The whole thing just had me more… overwhelmed than anything else.” You scratched your head. “Even more so now.”
He nodded, rocking back and forth from the tips of his toes to the heels of his feet. It was clear that the conversation wasn’t ending here. You watched him carefully.
“What is it?” You finally asked. He ran a hand down his face.
“I think…” He said, tilting his head. “I think we should keep this goin’, just for a little bit.” You stared at him in confusion.
“And why would we do that?” You asked in an unusually high voice, walking passed him out of the supply closet and back into the medical room. He turned to follow. The shaking in your hands started again as you sat down at your desk. If Jamie noticed your brand new demeanour, he didn’t comment on it
“‘Cos how stupid would it be if we told everyone we broke up right after we told them we’re together?” He asked. “Also, it still saves us from the blind date business we talked about. Can’t question ya if they know who you’re datin’, can they?”
It infuriated you that he was making sense.
You turned in your chair as you contemplated all of this. There were so many factors to consider. Maybe it wouldn’t be a bad thing, necessarily. It certainly would get everyone off your back about dating someone new. But then there was the fear. It would be one thing if Jamie were a regular guy, but he was a public figure. Meaning, your picture would get put out there more than it already had. You wouldn’t be under the radar like you had been, which is something you felt you needed for safety and sanity reasons. But maybe that could be a positive in itself. Jamie could offer a sort of security at the matches that you didn’t have before. Maybe being on his radar was exactly what you needed.
“How long would it go on?” You asked him. Running his fingers through his long hair, he shrugged.
“At least a month,” He replied. “Give things time to smooth over.” You nodded as you continued to think.
“We’d probably need some rules then.”
He perked up at this, as if he hadn’t considered it.
“Alright,” He said, sitting down on the edge of your desk. Which you hated. “Rule number one, you have to go to all of the matches.”
You stared at him with a blank expression for a long time, wondering if he was joking. When he didn’t respond, you knew he wasn’t.
“Jamie,” You said slowly. “I already go to every single match. I have to because of my job.” He looked absolutely embarrassed, and you felt it too. Had he really noticed you so little that he couldn’t even remember you being at the matches? Who was the person who had helped him every time he got hurt at a match? Maybe it would be easier if you didn’t think about it too much.
“Fine, sorry,” He mumbled. “Real first rule then. You have to go to public events with me.” Nodding, he looked pleased with this one. “Movie premieres. Charity parties. Weddin’s. All that shit. You’re going too.” You scrunched up your face.
“Does that include Coach Beard’s wedding in a few weeks?” You asked him. He slammed his hands down on the desk, clearly grateful that you reminded him. It made you regret bringing it up entirely.
“Abso-fuckin’-lutely it does!” He sounded so pleased about it, as if he was happy to know that he wouldn’t have to find a date for anything for the foreseeable future. As much as you wanted to be upset by this, your original plan for Beard’s wedding was to third wheel with Keeley and Roy, and while that would’ve been the safe route to go, now you’d have an actual date, and wouldn’t have to worry about Keeley, after a few drinks entered her system, asking every man who was alone to ask you to dance. Like she had at the last wedding the two of you attended.
“Rule number two I think is an obvious one,” He continued. “Just be honest with each other.” You nodded, liking this one a lot.
“I think that for this to work, we have to become friends on some sort of level,” You said, adding onto what he said. “I feel like I know nothing about you.” This seemed to surprise me.
“Do ya know what, I think you’re the first person to say that to me in a long time.”
“So, we have to be honest with each other,” You repeated back to him. “That’s rule number two, but rule number three is that we’re going to leave this as amicable friends.” Your head tilted towards your shoulder. You wanted to add a comment about no longer being invisible to him, but decided not to.
“Then, of course,” He said, a cheeky tone filling his voice. “There’s rule number four; Don’t fall in love with me.”
You rolled your eyes so hard that you could feel them strain. Immediately, you changed your expression, giving him the best heart eyed look you could muster.
“Can you believe it, I already have!” You exclaimed, throwing a dramatic hand to your forehead. “Whatever shall we do?” He was fighting a smile as he watched you.
“I know, I’m just too irresistible,” He said, playing as if he knew this would happen.
“Oh Jamie Tartt, the most real while also the most fake love of my life, how will I ever find anyone else?”
“Alright, fuck off,” He said through a laugh. Dropping your hand to your lap, you found that you were laughing as well. He was looking at you, as if for the first time. “I always forget how funny ya are. Ya always seem to keep to yourself.”
Yeah, you thought to yourself. There’s a reason for that.
You shifted uncomfortably in your seat. There was no good way to respond.
“Last rule,” You said, more reservation in your voice this time. “I…erm.” Your eyes dropped to the table, but you could still feel him staring. “I need…” You inhaled sharply. “I need you to… to ask before you touch me.” The words hung in the air for a moment, and you wished so desperately to suddenly gain the ability to turn invisible so you could escape his gaze. “Or, at the very least, let me know before you touch me. Please.”
He stared at you for a long moment, waiting for what you could only assume was an explanation. But you didn’t intend to give one, instead just continuing to stare at the table awkwardly while trying to remain cool and not panicked.
“Alright,” He said slowly. Another beat passed before he continued, “Can I ask-”
“No,” You interrupted him quickly, feeling stupid by how desperate you sounded. “No, you can not.” His face softened, head tilting to the side slightly.
“What I was going to ask… if it upset you when I touched ya the other day.”
The heat rose in your cheeks.
“Oh, erm… It did,” You admitted, trying not to replay the absolute panic attack, along with washing your skin raw and sitting in the burning water for an hour, in your head. When the guilt filled his face, you shook your head. “Please don’t feel bad. There’s no way you could’ve known.” He shook his own head, waving you off.
“I should’ve asked. I’m sorry.”
You were dumbfounded by this response. This conversation usually went very, very differently. Never had it been this easy to set a boundary and not only not have them question you on the why, but also have them apologise for unknowingly breaking them in the past. The anxiety that had initially filled your chest completely evaporated, and you found it replaced with ease.
You opened your mouth to speak when you were interrupted by the door flying open. The both of you jumped up, turning to see Roy Kent at the door with Will the kit man next to him. Will’s nose was gushing with blood. Alarm bells began to ring in your head at the sight of him.
“Did you throw your radio into the fuckin’ ocean or somethin’?” Roy shouted as he grabbed Will by the sleeve and dragged him over to the bed. “Or are you too busy making puppy eyes at your new fuckin’ boyfriend?” Ignoring Roy, you ran to the supply closet and grabbed your radio, feeling nauseous over missing the call. You set it down on your desk when you reentered the room before turning your attention to Will.
“What happened?” You asked as you put some gloves on.
“The boys said I couldn’t juggle shoes,” Will explained. With his eyes on the ceiling, he couldn’t tell that you were giving him a look. “I had to prove I can.”
“It’s not broken, just busted up,” You said, your eyes scanning the area. “Did you prove it? That you can juggle shoes?”
“Yes!” Will exclaimed at the same time that Roy said, while shaking his head, “No.”
“I would’ve been fine had Isaac not thrown a 5th one into the mix.”
“I think you would’ve gotten clobbered with one of them either way, if I’m honest,” Roy remarked, taking a seat in the chair that you had previously been sitting in. He looked over at Jamie, who hadn’t said a word since they had arrived. “Don’t you have practice? Fuck off, Tartt.” Completely unfazed by Roy’s aggression, Jamie nodded while taking a step towards you.
“See you later, yeah?” He said gently. You looked at him as you packed Will’s nose with gauze, giving him a smile and a nod. He leaned in, before tapping his finger against his cheek. You stared at him, the corners of your lips flicking upwards into a small smile. It was clear by his eyes that this was a question, not a demand. He was giving you the power. You planted a kiss onto the side of his face, and he gave you a wide smile before sauntering out the door.
“I fuckin’ hate this,” Roy grumbled as the door clicked closed.
“I heard about you and Jamie,” Will said quickly, his voice all mucked up from the tissues in his nose. “Congratulations.”
“Thank you, Will,” You said as you grabbed a wipe to clean the dried blood from his cheeks, now that the bleeding had stopped. “If only everyone were as nice and supportive as you.” You made sure to say that last part a little louder, so that Roy was sure to hear it.
“Fuck you.”
“If you’re just here to pout and be an arse, you can fucking leave,” You told him with a friendly tone. Giving Will one last look, you ripped off your gloves. “Alright, Will. You’re clear to return to work.” Tossing the bundle into the rubbish bin, it dropped in easily. You gave Will a look of warning. “Maybe hold off on the shoe juggling for now, yeah?” He nodded understandingly before hopping off the bed and making his way out the door.
Roy, however, stuck around.
“Who said I don’t support you?” He demanded. Sitting down on the bed, you stared at him.
“Your entire behaviour has said it.” You cocked your head to the side. “You literally just said, and I quote.” You did your best Roy Kent impression, having perfected it over the years, “‘I fuckin’ hate this.’” If he was impressed by your Roy Kent voice, he did not voice it, to your complete dismay.
“I do,” He admitted, casually. “That don’t mean I don’t support you.” You crossed your arms over your chest, saying nothing. Roy leaned forward in the chair, pressing his hands together as he looked at you.
“Do you remember my last match as captain of Richmond?” He asked. “When I fucked up my knee-”
“-Sliding into Jamie,” You finished. Because of course you remembered. He got up and took himself out of the game, and you found him with Keeley in the locker room. Staying out in the hall where they couldn’t see you, you waited until she left, and then you gave him care. “I remember.”
“Do you remember the first thing you said to me?”
You nodded. “‘Should’ve kicked him harder, you would’ve broken his ankle.’”
Roy smiled fondly as if he was replaying it in his head. “Yeah.” Another moment passed before he spoke again. “And then do you remember the second thing you said to me?” You nodded, this one being much clearer.
“‘You’re more than this, you know. You’re so much bigger than this game. When you’re old and can’t remember how to wipe your own arse, they’ll still remember you as one of the greats, even if you don’t feel that great at this moment. It’s okay to rest now. You’ve done it.’”
He had been so hurt, so devastated, when it became clear he couldn’t keep playing. His knee just wasn’t doing the job anymore. You had known him for a few years at this point, as you wrapped and iced his knee. A few years of watching him dominate matches. All you had done in that moment was be honest with him.
“You’ve done it, now,” He said tenderly. “You’ve always been more than that arsehole who you won’t let me kill. And you let it hold you back for longer than you should’ve. You deserve someone kind. Now you’ve got that. Of course I support you.” He sat up straight, face hardening once more. “I’m still going to complain about it, though.” You rolled your eyes, as the softness of the moment had reached its end.
“I wouldn’t expect anything less.”

The Trip To Cornelia Street
main masterlist
spencer reid x famous!reader universe
word count: 1.5 k
warnings: slut-shaming? i think thats all
Tumblr media
Being away from Spencer was hard, especially when they had just spent a week together. But now they were both in New York, Spencer here on a case and Y/N staying at her rented place on Cornelia Street. Sadly though, being as Spencer was here for a case she didn’t know exactly when he would get off and be able to come see her. So Y/N had gone to a bar, wanting to see her girl friends. But god, she couldn’t have picked a worse time.
Y/N phone would not stop going off in the back pocket of her jean shorts, grabbing it to turn off her notifications, she sees messages from some of her friends that weren’t with her now, asking if she was okay? Why would she not be okay? Y/N takes a step towards the bar to sit and check twitter. One of the biggest mistakes people make everyday.
Kim Kardashian had posted an altered video of Y/N saying she approved the lyrics. God it felt as if Y/N world had come crumbling down, some of things people were saying. Calling her a liar, and playing the victim card. The bar suddening started getting hotter, felt like it was closing in on her.
Y/N called her car, after she got out of the bar her fresh air. She then sent her friends, who are still in the establishment, a text saying she was leaving and that they should stay and have fun. She didn’t want to ruin her friends' nights.
Her car arrives, not leaving her waiting long. Sitting in the backseat of the car, her mom texting and trying to call, all Y/N wants to do, the only person she wants to talk to is Spencer. She knows he was on a case, but it was very much possible that tey had finished the case. They had been on it for four days. Maybe it was her emotional state or the few drinks she had in her, but nonetheless Y/N called Spencer. Miraculously Spencer answered after the third ring.
“Hey, baby.” His voice was soft, yet raspy at the same time. He must had been just going to sleep.
“Hey.” Y/N’s voice breaking as she speaks, it was at this moment she realised she was crying.
Spencer on the other line, sitting up in bed at the tone in her voice asking, “Baby, are you okay? What's wrong?”
She said “I’m fine.” but they both knew it wasn’t true.
“I know you’re not fine. What happened?”
“They hate me.” Her voice breaks again.
“Who-who hates you?”
“Everyone. You remember- of course you remember.. I told you about the lyrics in Kanye’s song about me?” She waits to hear him mumble a quick ‘mhm’ before continuing, “And when Kim s-said that I knew about the lyrics, well she… She posted an altered video that sounds like I agreed. And now everyone hates me. Y/N L/N is over party is trending worldwide. They hate me.” Y/N says struggling, having to pause a couple times to wipe tears or sniffle
“Love, where are you?”
“You can’t come, you have a case.”
“No, not anymore we solved it. Where are you?”
“I-I’m uh in my car.. Going to my place on Cornelia Street.”
“Okay I’ll meet you there. I love you.”
“I love you too.”
-
At this point Spencer had calmed Y/N down enough, with a bath, and sweet cuddles, mixed with even sweeter kisses. Spencer had asked for a few days off to help take care of Y/N, Hotch gladly let him, knowing Spencer wouldn’t ask unless it truly was important.
It was now the next day. Whenever Y/N was with Spencer he hadn’t let her on social media, but with Spencer in the shower there was sadly no one there to stop her. Y/N reading tweet after tweet with the hashtag Y/N L/N is over party. Tweets saying she was a liar, always been a bitch, and a slut. Someone saying she’s a mess, and that her new hot boyfriend should get out now, that she didn’t deserve anyone. Y/N couldn’t help but agree, she never thought she deserved Spencer and now with someone else saying it and thousands agreeing, it clearly had some truth. But the worst came when someone replied with a picture of Spencer hugging another girl. No one she recognized, it surely wasn’t any of the women on his team.
Was he just leading her on, did he love someone else? She trusted him, she thought he was worth trusting.
Y/N was in an emotional, and irrational state, there was no logic to her next move, of leaving the rented house, without saying goodbye to Spencer. She quickly packed her bag, while Spencer was still in the shower, then she left. Not leaving a note, just leaving.
-
Spencer walked out of the bathroom with a towel around his waist, walking towards his and Y/N’s shared bedroom. Seeing the room in a dishevelled state, one of Y/N’s suitcases, and quite a bit of her clothes gone. Spencer immediately calls Y/N, pacing around the bedroom as he lets the phone ring several times, Y/N not answering. Spencer decides to get dressed while he continues to call. Placing the phone on the bed, on speaker, slipping his pants on, buttoning the buttons of his shirt. Spencer was borderline ready to call the team, worried out of his mind. Until Y/N had finally picked up.
“What do you want, Spencer?” Y/N asked harshly, she never spoke to him in this tone. And never calls him by his full name. It’s also Spence, or baby, or his favourite my love, never Spencer.
“Where are you? Where did you go- why did you go?”
“I saw the pictures of you and that woman, Spencer.”
Once again with her tone, it told Spencer that she was not in the least bit joking. Yet he had no idea what she was talking about. Him and another woman? Anyone would be stupid to do that to a woman like Y/N, and Spencer is provably a genius. Not to mention that he had no idea how he got Y/N to go out with him, he couldn’t do it again if he tried.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about, baby.” Hearing him call her ‘baby’ caused a tear to drip out of her eye, not being able to handle it, not being able to handle the idea of losing him.
“Spencer. I saw the picture of you with a red head, you were hugging her. Your hands were on her waist.”
At that Spencer had finally registered what she was talking about. He had seen the cameras yesterday, taking pictures of him while he was getting victims of the serial arsonist they were dealing with. The woman in question he was hugging, her son hadn’t existed the building yet. Spencer comforting and holding her so she didn’t run into the building herself.
“Y/N no- please come back so I can explain. And I do have an explanation.”
“I want to hear it then.”
“Okay.. That woman was a victim of a serial arsonist and her son wasn’t out of the building yet. I was holding her back from running inside. I didn’t tell you, because I know you don’t like to hear about the bad side of my job. I’m sorry, I should have told you when I saw people taking pictures, so this didn’t happen.”
Boy, did Y/N feel stupid, with all her past relationships it seems she always expects the worst. But Spencer wasn’t like all the other guys she’s dated he was better, kinder, gentler, definitely smarter, yet she still expects the worst in him.
“Spence, I’m so sorry.”
“No. You don’t have to be sorry, I didn’t tell you.”
“You shouldn’t have to tell me every time you comfort a victim, that’s your job. And I promise I won’t run away like this again, I’ll talk to you first.”
“Okay, are you coming back then?” Spencer’s voice sounded small when he asked, like he wasn’t sure if Y/N needed more time. It made Y/N smile, he was so god damn adorable, and she loved every bit of him.
“Yeah, I’m turning around now. I love you.”
“I love you too, Sweetheart.”
-
The next few days were spent at the Cornelia Street house, cuddled together on the couch, each taking turns picking movies to watch. Which caused weird combinations like the 2002 ‘Solaris’ movie, Spencer had gone on and on about the original being a 5-hour long movie in Russian, not that Y/N minded, she always loved listening to Spencer talk about topics he knew a lot about, which happens to be almost any topic she could think of. ‘Solaris’ was followed by ‘Mean Girls’ which was quite a culture shock for Spencer.
They spent the night in the secret oasis of their bed, sharing sweet kisses, and gentle touches. It was a good escape for Y/N given all that was going on with her name at the moment. Spencer was a great escape for her.

calliopeys_ on Instagram — I don’t really post much on there as I’m not an Instagram person, but hopefully I’ll get around to posting more on there as well. Created a new account from scratch to maybe post my art and fanfic updates. If I see an influx of people from here on there, I may do some of those quick asks in the stories :))
calliopeys on TikTok — Empty for the moment, but maybe I'll do some silly memes on there

Tumblr media
I want to share it here because I'm not seeing anyone talking about this injustice on Tumblr.
Idk what the hell happened between Elon Shit-Musk and the Brazilian government, but prohibiting the civilians in there to access popular social networks and socialise with other people around the world is just so absurdly unfair.
And here you might say "Oh, don't exaggerate so much, they still have Instagram, Tumblr, etc" but that's not the main problem for me. There are people and influencers who made their account there since the day Twitter was created. People who over the years built an audience, whether they did blogs, shared their opinions and masterpieces or just liked to talk and comment under their friends'posts. And I'm certain that a good portion of these people are Brazilian.
I'm not Brazilian myself though, I'm from the pizza-making boot-shaped peninsula also known as Italy, and fortunately the Italian government did not decide to decapitate Twitter here too. Not yet at least. I hope.
So why am I complaining about something that doesn't even involve my people?
Well... I just feel so sorry for the Brazilians. I believe that everyone deserves the freedom of speech, no matter how right or awfully wrong they are. Yes, there are people who can be really annoying or, hell, can have some extremely controversial opinions, but I think that people often forget that the more importance and vocal we become about the person we don't like the more powerful they become.
I know that sometimes being vocal about something wrong can be useful, it can unite people to fight injustices and change things for the better, but at the same time there will be annoying people, like Elon Fuck-Musk, who will use this attention to their advantage and eventually gather people who will be on their side.
So what do you do in this case? You ignore them. You stop giving importance to what that idiot is saying and move on with your life. And when people will realise that this idiot's opinions are not getting traction and attention, they will stop giving importance to it too. And when that idiot will realise that no one is listening to them, maybe they'll realise that what they've been saying is stupid.
Not saying that it'll certainly work with people with bigger followings, there will always be people that are stupid enough to lick Elon or Trump's feet no matter what, but as long you stop giving importance to their followers at least you'll have your mind clearer from negativity.
My point being, I don't think that any governments should ban any social media from their states, it's like prohibiting your child from going to their favourite park just because it has a broken bench. One rotten flower doesn't ruin a whole garden, idk if it makes sense.
Phew... That's pretty much all I had to say about this situation. I got very sad because the Twitter account of my friend @panhbr (a wonderful person and amazing artist btw you should follow him) is about to be obliterated at any moment and I wanted to use this opportunity to talk about the importance of freedom speech. I don't think I'll talk about political stuff again (mostly because I don't know much about politics in general and I don't want to be attacked by people who are "fans" of it) but it is pretty liberatory to vent about stuff like this.
Edit: So uh... Some people from Brazil corrected me and said that it's not a freedom of speech problem, it's just Elon that did a bullshit move as always. Of course. I hate that man so much. But I think that what I said about not giving importance to stupid people is important, so I'm keeping the post up. Thanks to the Brazilian folks who corrected me 👍🏻🇧🇷

I think I was tagged forever ago to share some WIP stuff, but I'm just the worst at keeping up with those. :3 But I have had a lot more time to focus on personal projects since being a lot stricter about social media time, so here are a few things!

Eventually (like probably in the 2090s tbh; they gotta suffer under Arasaka for a while), they get to have domestic bliss (mostly; I'm sure they'll still get into trouble) and live in a beautiful house in Kanagawa. I've tried a few times to make one for them, but the other efforts didn't quite stick for one reason or another. This is my favorite so far, especially their huge yard/garden, which is essential for Valerie to lean into her plant mom life.
There's still a lot I want to add to the outside, but I think I'm going to leave the interior mostly empty so I can just use it as a stage for whatever I'm in the mood for and not be restricted to a specific layout. They might get a permanent full kitchen, though.
Tumblr media
Kinktober Planning
I shared a little teaser the other day, but I just wrapped up doing another set for next month. I'm not gonna be able to do one for every day, but I think there's a good possibility I could get about 10-12 out.
Here's another shot from a set I just finished today:
Tumblr media
And while I'm thinking about it: I'm not going to be posting the full sets on Tumblr since they'll be on the more explicit side--They'll be going on my Pillowfort with all my other naughty stuff. (Some will probably also end up on Twitter, but I don't really like formatting photosets for Twitter so it'll be a low priority.)
Tumblr media
Casual/Personal Modding Stuff
I don't really have any pictures to share for this, but I also spent a good chunk of my time over my long holiday weekend updating some of my personal mods, like own poses and my Goro NPC+. I added some new clothes for him (like this one) and updated his shirtless varieties to have the shoulder pad things I've been using (rather than adding them with ACM). I'd still like to get him proper cyberware that looks closer to his concept art, but that's way beyond my Blender skills and commission budget (which is exactly $0 right now, lmao). But this at least gets rid of the unsightly jagged edges.
Tumblr media
So those are the main highlights atm! I am staying pretty busy at the moment--September tends to be a crazy month for me on a personal level since 3 of my family members have September birthdays, and husbando and I are actually celebrating our 17th (!!!!!!) anniversary this week. I also need to find some time to resume my Inquisition replay because I know Halloween is gonna be here in the blink of an eye.

WeHeartIt is dead.
Tumblr media
It died in 2023, during a sunny June, though the process started taking place way before that date. It’s unclear, though, the reason why it started to happen. And, since I’m not a journalist, I might focus on why it meant so much to me for so long.
WeHeartIt, famous for embracing thousands of people around the idea of creating personal galleries and sharing them with friends, was born in 2008 from a Brazilian developer. He came up with the idea of creating a platform where people could save, share and, most importantly, heart images.
And didn't that work out? At its peak, the social network had 25 million monthly users and partnered with brands such as Teen Vogue to promote content and increase that reach. Of course, there was always Pinterest, but this wasn’t it. WeHeartIt was a hot mess of posting and hearting and expressing ourselves through the images we saved or the postcards we sent or even the collections we built. Of course, you could open Pinterest and organize your ideas, wishes, and... crochet templates, I guess? But at WeHeartIt, what looked like a mess would then become a gallery with layers of meanings and feelings, resembling the rings of trees. Our profiles, as rings of trees can tell us about a harsh winter or a particularly hot summer, would have layers composed of travel dreams, romantic ideas, or heartbreaking moments. It was safe and, as a 2018 article from Women’s Forum would point out, it was a mood booster.
Can you imagine such a lovely mess? "Dancing On My Own" was at the top of the parades (at least for hipsters worldwide), Tumblr was the next most favorite network, and Facebook wasn’t as cringe as it is now. In the middle of all that, WeHeartIt was thriving. Saving us from the boredom and helping us all to create a gallery where we could go back to see (and feel) all that was there to remember.
But then, things started to go somewhere out of the road, and we learned that good and new features don’t necessarily mean improvement. The app didn't have to try and be anything else. Of course, a design refreshment is always welcome, but some of the updates were simply needless or had no sense at all. All of that led to what we encounter today when we go into the platform website.
Tumblr media
I won’t refer to all of the annoying-but-still-not-changing-the-core-of-the-app updates and features. I’m talking about ads, postcards, articles and yes, podcasts. Though all of these were meaningless and even annoying, they never interfered in my possibility of using the core functions of the app: managing my profile, visiting other people’s profiles, and hearting images.
Then, all of a sudden, WeHeartIt starts rolling out a message saying that the app will now focus on other features and so, they would do part with profiles and hearting. Yes, you read that correctly. The owners of the app decided that the main functions of the website should no longer be available, in order to redirect the main focus of the app to photo editing.
As I said in a rather harsh review of the latest version of the app in Apple’s App Store:
The so-called "photo editing" capabilities are laughable, barely a patch on dedicated apps in that domain. It's utterly disheartening that even a relic like the 1967 app surpasses WeHeartIt as a creative tool at this point. There appears to be an overwhelming lack of satisfaction with this so-called "upgrade."
Tumblr media
Though scattered around the web, many of the platform users have shown their discomfort with the current state of the app. A quick search on Twitter, Reddit, App Store Reviews, and even Tumblr shows us. Even though some users still try to make some of the old features of the service work, it’s only a matter of time until the database is updated and we no longer have access to any image at all.
Tumblr media
It’s sad that WeHeartIt is dying. The idea was great, and the execution worked for a while, but now it just looks as if the owners of the platform are looking for an excuse to shut it down permanently. We might as well just end up with a page like the former ffffound.

Hey! Just a heads up, I'm sending this to multiple people, since I wanna get as many different viewpoints on this as I can. I hope this doesn't bother you. Also, this is pretty long.
So, I have a question about gamedev, but more on the marketing/presence side.
Most gamedevs I know, even hobbyist ones, keep their accounts relatively professional. Sure, they may shitpost here and there, but it's mostly in relation to their games, the gamedev sphere in general, or very general inoffensive stuff. And, most importantly, I've seldom seen my favorite gamedevs (or any of my favorite internet personalities, for that matter) comment on random videos unrelated to what type of content they usually post.
All of my social media accounts are quite unprofessional. I've also had them for a long time, so there are a few things on my digital footprint that I'd rather people not see. I also, for lack of a better way of explaining, watch and read random shit and like to leave comments on it sometimes.
I feel like, I were to become a gamedev, I wouldn't be able to do that anymore. I'd have to treat my internet presence as its own balancing act, rather than a place for me to express myself unabashedly. I know this is working under the assumption that I would get big and that people would give a damn about me, but there is always the off chance of that happening. Of a random game you make suddenly blowing up because it hit the algorithm just right. So it's better to be prepared. And even if I don't get that big boom in popularity, I still plan to at least make games consistently enough to build a community of their own. Nothing like, huge, but I really enjoy the idea of people enjoying my work and sharing that enjoyment with others. But I don't want that to cross over into my personal life!
I know that's not an impossible feat, but I feel like it kind of destroys the purpose of the internet for me. To me, it's always been a safe space where I could express myself and easily connect with people with similar viewpoints, but I am now coming to odds with this concept as I consider how I want to become a gamedev.
There's also the side note that I don't wanna rebrand. At least not completely. I don't mind cleaning up my accounts or deleting some old ones, but I've grown very attached to being "Quamai". I can't imagine myself having any other online identity, even if there are some cringy moments attached to it.
So, do you have any advice for my situation? How did you personally go about your own online image, and what do you think is the best course of action?
Thank you in advance!
oh gosh what a question ldkjfadl
hmmmm
putting this under a cut because it got long and rambly lakdfa
for me personally i don't think i've ever made that many "right" choices when it comes to how i handle my online presence in game dev, it was mostly just me doing what seemed like the right thing to do at the time. it's also changed a lot all throughout my time as a dev
tho i guess the main thing is that i did create a whole new game dev online identity, so to speak, when i first got into game dev. this wasn't really due to any purposeful thought put into it though and was more just because 1) i didn't really have much online identity anyway at the time and 2) in the beginning i was trying to be more "professional" LOL
when i released easter, i did it without any presence at all. i had no accounts or anything. i literally just finished the game and threw it up on itch and gamejolt using the new studio name i had come up with based on an inside work joke. it wasn't until i started to get a few people talking about the game or linking to it/making vids that i was like hmmm i should have a twitter maybe LOL so like a week later i made a twitter. but i barely posted on it, it was just responding to other people. a year later when i released the 2.0 update i also made a few posts. then thought i might start using it more so started posting just a few random updates of new stuff i was trying out/working on (this was when i made my first couple of posts about early OW stuff)
but then when i shifted out of game dev again for a while, i abandoned it
it wasn't until august of 2021 that i began actively using my account again to post production updates for work on ow. but back then i was a lot more "emotionless" for lack of a better word. like i approached it in a more no-nonsense way than i do today. i also never got that much response from it either, usually lucky to get like 2 or 3 likes on stuff 🤣 over the course of that first year or so though i would change a lot in how i handled my online stuff, acting much more like myself, interacting a lot more with people, and getting increasingly more unhinged(???) LOL perhaps because i'd begun to see that being "super professional" when i'm just a little random person making a game all by myself there's no reason to be so stiff (and it's just much more fun and genuine to not be afraid to be myself and be a bit silly). over this time was also when i'd shift away from using my studio name and just taking the "carrot" identity. because i realized i didn't like people thinking about me as an impersonal studio and wanted to just be me, carrot, interacting with people, making games, and getting unhinged about my chars and stories
is this the right way to do it???? i have no idea. but perhaps since i never have any aspirations of grandeur and don't plan to be any kind of business, it's fine for me. and while it's true that i don't like to post, reblog, interact with, content unrelated to my games or other VN stuff, that's mostly because i don't want to annoy people who i know only follow me for game stuff (i worry about annoying people a lot, actually, it might be one of the core foundations for how i handle myself online LMAO). i don't have any other presence online though. once i started my game dev stuff, carrot became me, and it's all that's out there. so it's not like i need to "separate" anything. but also i'm not a very avid user of social media in general so it's not like i have an active desire to have different accounts so i can tweet about or comment on other stuff lakdjfasd i'm an old socially anxious duck who gets mentally exhausted just scrolling my feed. i don't need to spend any more time online than i already do with my game dev stuff hahaha. i do know some other devs though for instance that have private accounts on twitter just for their friends and more personal thoughts. so that's always an option too
as for what you should do in your own situation with your own online presence, i'm not really sure, as it all comes down to what you want. for me, since i didn't have much presence anyway, and because i wanted my game dev stuff to be its own thing, it made sense for me to create a new presence just for game dev (that eventually evolved into my entire self LKDJFAS). so it's hard for me to say what would be the best course of action if you already have an online presence that forms a core part of your identity that you don't want to lose. it also depends on what you want to eventually do with your games and if you see yourself really wanting to pursue it actively and make it a big part of your life. most devs that i know do have "game dev" presences for lack of a better word, where if you go to their accounts, it's just for game dev. or they create studios and studio accounts. i think no matter what you decide to do, even if you keep the name the same, it would probably be best to at least keep your game dev stuff separate, because people could potentially be put off from following an account for games but then their feed gets filled with a lot of non-game stuff from you that they don't care about
no matter what you decide to do though, i recommend being yourself no matter what. whether you keep with your same identity or craft a new game dev only one, still do what feels right for you on that account and be yourself and have fun with it!! game dev can already be such an isolating and hard experience, so creating a space where you can be silly and have fun with other devs and fun with your chars and ideas can really help so much to give you motivation and just enjoy your time creating games!!!
(sorry if this was a complete ramble that didn't even still fully answer the question; i can only speak from my own personal experiences that i went through after all and i don't really have any good or professional answers since i also have no idea what i'm doing most of the time 🤣)

twitter is...
like. artists have been protesting artstation’s allowance of AI generated art by posting a ‘NO AI’ image right - now if you go to Artstation’s main page it’s mostly those images.
cool!
techbro makes a post MOCKING the protest by AI-generating an image that’s made up of those protest images like ‘oh no my AI art is ruined because this is what I get when entering the ‘trending on artstation’ prompt now!’. The post aims to point out artists don’t know how AI tech works.
Bleh.
ARTISTS takes the techbro’s post as GENUINE, and post screencaps of it celebrating the fact the protest is working. The artists’ posts gets a lot of attention, and are still up despite people pointing out the techbro’s intention was to MOCK artists.
techbros are now seeing this and gleefully announcing how stupid and gullible artists are!
i have screenshots of all the above because apparently i want to remember this moment of feeling both very angry and very frustrated by a number of things this scenario demonstrates about being an artist online and social media, but posting those would increase the chances of THIS post going outside my usual circle which I don’t want.
so, friends, my own takeaway from this so far is,
a. no matter how much techbros would say otherwise, AI art generation depends on having real art to feed into the machines. the fact that techbros are SO HOSTILE to artists - the very people they depend on! - bewilders me, but there’s that pretty common sense of entitlement that people have toward things found online. have myself been told multiple times that if i didn’t want an artwork reposted, repurposed, etc, i shouldn’t have posted it in the first place. ‘found on google/pinterest/buzzfeed’ and ‘credit to the artist’ is a common caption. this is now that sentiment amplified. techbros probably also think there’s no way their well of stolen material will dry up... because artists depend on posting to survive and are not all going to collectively stop.
b. misinformation doesn’t help the cause!
c. waiting, optimistically, for the techbro’s mocking post to actually become true - that artists will flood the well with unusable images that will make AI generation too hard, or at least much harder.
d. waiting for tech to defeat the tech to come along, waiting for more regulations... Feeling, though, as a self-employed artist in this capitalist hellscape that ultimately money will win
e. seeing a bunch of ARTISTS lamenting the ‘no AI’ images on artstation because it’s inconveniencing their usual use of it!
f. artstation’s statement about the protest basically amounts to ‘well we respect artists’ copyright but we won’t ban AI art because we don’t want to gatekeep’. Gatekeep? That’s the wording they chose to use??
g. as a side-note, you know that scene in The Incredibles movie where Syndrome says ‘when everyone’s a super, no one will be’ and like. when everyone’s an artist i guess no one will be? and in The Incredibles 2 where Evelyn says ‘I think people will choose ease over quality every time’ - god isn’t that so applicable?
this is all very stupid and very tiring, but it just feels like something we’ll be dealing with now, i guess, on top of everything else. so that’s cool!
may well delete this later. i wrote this in an uncharacteristic rage! was so happy not checking twitter obsessively last few weeks because i’ve been so busy and this is what i come back to today, christ!

Behind the Screen
The Beginning
On 20th September 2020 I posted my first ever Live Reactions on GCF in Tokyo. I was very nervous. In a world full of so much hate, would my attempt to go back in time to reminisce together and spread positivity be accepted? I wasn’t so sure. My idea behind the very concept of Live Reactions was because I was sick of so many fights about GCF in Tokyo. I wanted to show the true loving reactions to these moments, without all the drama that ends up going around in a vicious cycle. Thus, I started doing some research.
Tumblr media
After I finished advanced searching on various social media platforms, I got ready to make the thread. I found myself quickly enjoying looking through old posts. It was fun and I think that’s a big part of why I am still making these now, nearly three years later. Plus the support. Once the thread was made, I posted it and actually hid my phone. I came back to it about an hour later and was very surprised to see such a huge response to it. At the time, it was one of my most popular posts and instantly there was a desire for more.
I decided to throw myself into it.  If people wanted more, then I was happy to help with that! Especially when it was making so many people happy. I made a new Google Drive account and a spreadsheet to go with it, so that I could keep track of which Jikook moments I had already done or not. Over time, I would start formatting my posts properly and understand how the advanced search function worked on Twitter. I am a History and English major, so being accurate is very important to me. This gave birth to my second style of posts: Discussion and timeline threads. The Unexpected
Though these threads are well received and made with a lot of love, there was a dark side to this that I have never really spoken about before. The jikooker hierarchy is a strange one and is one that I try to ignore, but with that comes consequences and a certain isolation. A group of jikookers did not like that my account had apparently grown from out of nowhere and started spreading rumours about me, my posts and my identity. This hurt because I had never spoken to these people before. I would love it if we actually conversed, because I enjoy talking to people and I like to think that I am a pleasant person. But they were not interested and instead they continued to try and tarnish my name. I decided to come out to my closest friends and just continued what I was always doing.
I mostly ignored the bullying and it soon stopped once they realised that I was really not interested in the drama. I never have been and never will. After all, that was the main reason I started this journey of making threads. To try and counter the hate and drama, I just never expected it from my own side. It made me more determined than ever and I also made a promise to myself, to make sure others NEVER experienced what I did. A good friend of mine recently revealed that I was one of the only ones that would reply to their curious messages about Jikook. I feel like this is also something important: How we are seen from the outside. We want Jikook to be recognized for their bond and their talent. But how can we do that if all we do is fight or act better than others? I will always be here to talk or help others, it’s just in my nature to do so.
The Present and The Future
In the last few months or so my life has changed dramatically, in real life and also online. I have lost family members, got a new job and I am currently on carers leave. I decided to bring my laptop in the hope that I could work on some posts whilst everything was happening. I have (somehow) managed to find a balance between both and now have a loose schedule that I try to follow. I also try to not pressure myself whenever there is a new Jikook moment to instantly start working on it. I used to get really stressed, but now I am much better. One thing, however, is making this whole process rather difficult. Twitter. Or “X” as it’s now called. I can no longer just work on a post whenever I want to, I have to be time conscious. I currently have four accounts and have to rotate between them. Last night Jungkook went on We-live, with Jimin active in the comments. Jikookory happened. It was around 2am my time, but I’m still struggling to sleep in case I am needed. I decided to work on getting screenshots and it was hard. The search function does not work as well as it used to and my timeline is messed up on my backup accounts. There’s probably a case study that can be done here, but I just really wanted to work on a post without being restricted. I continued though, determined to show what others see. Sometimes we’re only aware of what is is happening in our own circles and not what is going on around us. Those that are in personal spaces with me know my deep frustration with all of this. On my Birthday, my main account got double limited and then my second account got locked. It was not fun. However, I refuse to give up. I have already completed my scheduled posts for August and September and am (very slowly) working on posts ready for November and December. Assuming that “X” is still around then. If not, I’ll post elsewhere or here. And for those asking why I haven’t been posting on here, my account seems to be bugged and won’t let me post links or videos in text posts for some reason. No idea why. Guess I don’t have much luck with social media platforms. With the way things are right now, this is a promise. I will continue to keep doing what I have been doing over all these years. It might be harder but I still have that same goal that I’ve always had: To spread postivity and appreciation for Jikook for all in a safe environment. Love you all.

VP Reads Psycholonials - Chapter 1 & Interlude 1
My instinct here is to watch for numbers that might be thematically important, but I suspect that the numerology stuff might just be a HS thing. It's been a HOT minute since I read PS, but I don't remember any numerology in it. That isn't keeping me from having a running list of numbers that pop up.
Z talking about having a non-conventional philosophy about family is incredibly resonant with me. I wonder if this story is going to involve a found family narrative or if it's going to flip that on it's head somehow. I'm not sure what to expect, but family seems to be a theme this story wants to cover, since Abby and Z spend a while talking about family. I could be wrong though. Since this is only chapter 1, we're still just learning stuff about the characters. Which BTW, Hussie has character creation down pat. I wanna see them teach a class on it. I genuinely think she's that good at it. I also really like how he strings words together, it's nice.
I'm intrigued by Z's past with social media and cancelling. I can perfectly imagine like ten types of discourse Z could've gotten cancelled over on Tumblr alone, but I'm not familiar enough with the Instagram sphere to know if it translates. I almost hope it stays ambiguous as to what got them cancelled, it would make Z a lot more relatable for an already niche sort of experience.
Getting a look a Z's social media accounts left me with a variety of thoughts, starting with "whoa, pronouns!" and ending with "oh, she's definitely displaying some maladaptive coping mechanisms here." I did get a giggle out of Twitter being dated. I double checked and Twitter only became X last year. It feels like it was simultaneously so much more recent and also eons ago.
Z being a legitimate influencer is kind of throwing me for a loop. Being famous sounds awful to me. People don't treat you like a person. Even something as simple as modeling can make people treat you different. It's bonkers. All of this is just a job people! At least Z seems to be chill and understand that influencers are people too and that the capitalistic drive to always be productive is actually all sorts of detrimental to the human psyche.
I was really excited seeing the psychic damage meter and the spoon theory meter. I like this sort of gag in Hussie's other works. I do wonder if there will actually be any kind of substantial repercussions based on these or if they'll even pop up again. I hope so.
I also feel conflicted on Abby. First she comes off as a shitty friend, but then she comes around to following Z on main, but then she belittles the pandemic. All I can say is that I'm glad it was at least lampshaded. I also like the symetry between Z and Abby being at opposite ends of the alphabet. Abby is shaping up to be a huge foil for Z, which is exciting.
The dream sequence caught me off guard, but the creepy music (and the trailer with the scary shadow being) prepared me for the worst of it. I really like the sound direction of this so far. Later, when Abby and Z's call ended and the music also cut out, it was a really poignant and made the moment feel realer. Also, I swear that Abby must have a crush on Z. They way she's interacting with them is giving me major flashbacks to high school when I had a crush on my yet-to-be-out bisexual best friend. Also, shout out to Z for being the first heterosexual nonbinary person to capture my heart <3
Now time for my thoughts on that ending. There was a QUICK escalation that has me totally hooked. I caught the pre-clownery murder when I watched the trailers, which I'm pleased about. The entire sequence was kind of a rush- not unlike how Z was behaving earlier when they thirst-trapped poor, sweet, nice, well-adjusted Percy.
As for the interlude, I think this really puts Psycholonials in conversation with Deltarune. It's all about CHOICE, or rather the lack of it. But whereas Deltarune has different impact based on choices, it seems like there really will be no choices allowed in Psycholonials at all. Which I'm fine with. There's something about the whims of social media being out of your control that makes it really work well in my mind.
Overall! I'm excited for chapter 2! I need to see what happens next.

I want to brainwash you into loving me forever
Chapter 1 of my NFL Fake Dating AU is here! Can be found on AO3 but including a snippet below :)
The phone on the table buzzed. It had been buzzing nonstop for several minutes. Jake groaned against the pillow and grabbed blindly at the table until he had the current source of his irritation in his hand. He slammed the answer button and put it up to his ear with a muffled, “What?!”
His agent’s voice filtered through the phone speaker, “There you are! I’ve been trying to get ahold of you all morning.”
He blinked over at the clock on the wall and groaned. “It’s 7am on an off day. Unless someone’s actively dying, call me back later.”
He started to hang up the phone, but his agent said, “What about your career dying?!”
He blinked and put the phone back to his ear. He felt slightly more awake. “What are you talking about?”
“Have you seen your email? Socials?”
“It’s 7am.” He repeated, an answer in itself.
“You better check it.”
He sighed and forced himself to sit up. “If this is your idea of a joke…”
“I wish it was.”
His agent sounded more serious than he’d ever heard. Even in his contract negotiations, he’d never sounded so…worried? Sympathetic? He wasn’t sure what it was, but it was making him feel antsy. He hit the speaker button and opened twitter, typing in his name. When he hit enter, he didn’t have to scroll far to figure out what his agent was talking about. His heart dropped.
“Fuck.”
He opened another tab and clicked on instagram. It was all the same. He moved to his email and clicked on the email from a reporter at TMZ. A strange feeling of numbness washed over him as he stared at the small screen in his hand. He vaguely registered his agent’s voice saying his name on repeat and he finally blinked out of his stupor.
“Jake? Did you see?”
He swallowed. His voice was hollow when he said, “Yeah.”
His agent was quiet for a moment before he said, softly, “We could still spin this. Say it wasn’t you. It’s hard to tell from the footage.”
He stared at the email from TMZ.
‘Mr. Seresin, we’ve been sent a number of photos and videos that claim to be of you in a compromising position with unknown man at a club Saturday night. You were seen leaving the downtown bar together and getting into a SUV. We have no way to verify these, and wanted to give you the courtesy of responding before taking any action. Please let us know if you’d like to comment by deadline today. Either way, we’ll publish tomorrow.’
Attached were the same photos that were making their rounds on twitter. They hadn’t hit the main news, or his main feed, yet, and it was possible they wouldn’t. It could be written off as gossip, unproven rumor. His agent was brilliant at his job and could probably make the whole thing disappear. TMZ would publish, but no one believed their bullshit anyways. Any reputable source would leave it be….probably. Then again, he was a star NFL Quarterback who made it to the Super Bowl last year. Even though they’d lost, their team was expected to have another year just as great, and compromising photos of the league MVP wrapped around another guy, well…
He stared at the photo for a long time. It was grainy, definitely hard to tell if it was him or not, but he knew it was. His arm was wrapped around another man who was also impossible to identify in the picture. He’d managed to keep his private life quiet enough for his career so far, and he hadn’t been planning on changing that anytime soon, but….fuck TMZ.
“You still there?” He said.
“Yes.”
“Don’t respond yet. I’ll be at your office in 30.” —————-
Thirty minutes later, he was sitting in his agent’s office tapping his fingers nervously against his coffee cup. He’d thrown on some jeans, a plain black sweatshirt, and a baseball cap and driven straight over. He stared at the framed accolades on the wall- his own newspaper clippings were up there from when he went All Pro, his NFC Championship win last season, and his NFL MVP Award from the same year.
His agent, Mav, was sitting across from him in a bomber jacket of all things, looking like he’d walked right off a fashion show runway even though it was 7:30am on a Sunday.
“So…I take it I’m not spinning it?” Mav asked.
“No. Fuck TMZ. They don’t get to break this.”
Mav raised an eyebrow. “You know nobody will take them seriously, right?”
“Maybe not this time, but we both know eventually it’ll leak. And honestly Mav? I’m fucking tired. I’m tired of being afraid, of hiding in the shadows. Hell, I haven’t even been on a real date in years.” He took a breath. “So…I’m doing this. On my terms.”
Mav stared at him, eyes searching for a moment. “You sure about this kid?”
“Damn right.”
He nodded and gave him a small smile, almost proud. “Okay. Fuck TMZ it is.”
“So..what’s next?”
Mav hummed and tapped his fingers on his desk as he leaned back in his chair. “We want to control the narrative. As much as I wish it wasn’t true, the NFL is a boys club. It’s not as bad as it used to be, but that mentality’s still there. That being said, the public loves a love story. So let’s give them a love story.”
Jake furrowed his eyebrows. “What are you talking about?”
“I’m talking about PR. Hook ups feed the stereotypes, as shitty and unfair as that is.” He tapped at the photo from Saturday night on his computer screen. “I think it’s best if we make this more of a serious relationship. We can say he’s your longtime boyfriend, get him at a few games, some events, a few public outings, that kind of thing.”
Jake was sure his eyebrows disappeared into his hairline. “What, me and him?”
“Yes. Please tell me you have a name.”
He thought back to Saturday night- to feeling wild and reckless for the first time in a long time, to the way the man he met that night made him feel, the shots of tequila that gave everything a pleasant buzz, the memory of the man’s name, whispered from his own lips. His skin still tingled, faint memories from all the places he’d touched him.
“Yeah. It’s kinda hard to forget.” He rolled his eyes. “I mean, what kind of parent names their kid Bradley Bradshaw?”
Mav spit out the sip of coffee he’d just taken. Jake jumped back in surprise while Mav coughed and hit his chest. When he finally had cleared his throat enough, he said, “Bradley Bradshaw? You’re sure?”
“Uh…pretty sure. I mean, I did have his-”
“No!” Mav cut him off, eyes wide and panicked. “No, I don’t want to know.”
Jake raised an eyebrow. “Okay…I’m not sure what your problem is, but we have a bigger problem here. It was a drunken hookup, I don’t even have his number, let alone any clue if he’d want anything to do with this.”
“Well, we don’t have to worry about the number part at least.” Mav muttered.
“Pardon?”
He sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. “Bradley’s my godson.”
“Oh shit…” Seriously…what were the odds. He bit his lip and said, “You’re sure? Maybe it’s another Bradley Bradshaw?”
Mav gave him a look that pointed out exactly how unlikely that was. “About 6’2, brown curls, mustache, probably wearing a Hawaiian shirt?”
Well…damn. “Yep. That’s uh…that’s him.”
Mav sighed. “Okay…okay. Before we do anything, let me just run this by him and I’ll call you. Go home and stay off the internet until then.”

Note
same anon, tried to dig elsewhere after realizing the document shared with me was gone (either doc itself was deleted or their account was deleted), it's possible it was a type of social media QnA type thing, but I distinctly remember finding that line from having more of a fixation on the dancestors however, I found more evidence of Hussie making light of/parodying the Holocaust in Homestuck through the files found in the "Skaianet Systems Incorporated" website he made, where he made it canon in Homestuck that Grandpa Harley increased powers in Germany because Adolf "wouldn't get off his back" when HIC was gone and let the Holocaust happen might be more-common info throughout the fandom (enough to be on the fandom wiki), but I just now found this out I'll still try to find what I originally messaged about though
Damn, it being gone really complicates things for the both of us, huh? Fuck. I really hate how temporary these kinds of things are. Seriously, the Internet is forever right until you actually need it to be... I think we can still do this though, if your memory is serving correctly.
Okay, so, from my basic searches of what was archived in the Unofficial Homestuck Collection, I couldn’t find it… So that crosses out Formspring, Blogspot, and Tumblr- unless I missed something, which is entirely plausible. If it was a social media QnA, maybe it was on Twitter? This might be a time to bust out the Wayback Machine.
Also, yeah. There’s two main reasons why Skaianet Systems Incorporated isn’t spoken of much at all… One: it’s a relatively obscure chapter in Homestuck’s story, and two: it fucking sucks so bad, dog. Without trying to sound assumptive, it felt almost like a regression..? There seemed to be some tangible difference between 2000’s Hussie and 2019 Hussie, but Skaianet Systems Incorporated really proved otherwise. The whole thing feels very 2000’s in the worst way possible. It’s really disgusting, and I’m glad it’s documented. No one even has the excuse of time period due to it being put up in fucking 2019. Yes, it’s unacceptable regardless of the year, but at the very least that train of “humor” was…. Pretty normalized back in 2000-2012. As unfortunately as that may be.
Side note, regarding Skaianet: Hussie’s persona is so sturdily built in irony that you genuinely can’t tell if they’re improving or not. You can’t really tell anything about this guy- I’ve never seen someone so seemingly allergic to sincerity. It’d be genuinely impressive how difficult they’ve made themself to read if it weren’t for the fact that it was also just so fucking aggravating. You can genuinely start thinking to yourself that Hussie has changed, but the moment that you do that, you activate him and he immediately starts pulling the worst shit you’ve ever seen.
That said, I believe in you, Anon. I’ll run through what’s saved on the Unofficial Homestuck Collection to see if I can find anything even just remotely related or worthwhile. Godspeed.
