GUESS WHO JUST FOUND OUT ABOUT OFFENSIVE CRAYONS

One of my favorite yuri mangas is Dekisokonai no Himegimi-tachi (also known as Useless Princesses or something else Princesses Ican't remember but I like the useless one better). It's about the main couple building up an unlikely and dare I say uneven friendship while fundamentally not understanding each other. It's amusing to me, but the drama is good, if overt at times.

The main protagonist Kanade Kurokawa is an asocial, nerdy plain Jane who both admires and resents the type of beautiful, popular girls who have a shine to them and get picked to play the part of the princess in the school play. She's accidentally present when her schools queen bee, Nanaki Fujishiro, gets unceremoniously dumped by her cheating piece of shit of a boyfriend who never even saw her as a person. Desperate to say something after being discovered, Kanade ends up kind of accidentally comforting Nanaki. By which I mean she didn't mean it to be encouraging but Nanaki took it that way.

What Nanaki gets out of the interaction is "wow, I guess ugly people are still capable of compassion. And since beauty = morality -> I could probably make her bearable to look at!" What Kanade gets out of it is "what the shit and fuck."

So Nanaki makes Kanade her unwilling charity case. Kanade (believes she) has a weaker personality so she's unable to refuse. Kanade's nerd friends dump her because she's spending time with the intimidating gyaru who used to always call them shit like dog-poop-face, which is tbh kind of understandable but a bit of a rush decision. Then Nanaki gets into a fight with her guaru friends because she no longer wants to call other people dog-poop-faces and they see it as a betrayal, in the most 15-year-old popular girl move you could possibly think of. (I assume. I was always the dog-poop-face.)

So they end up hanging out even more, Nanaki thinking they're friends and Kanade thinking "what the shit and fuck." They are eventually joined by Kanade's fujoshi friend from the past and the least bitchy of Nanaki's gyaru friends, who is tall and has short hair and I am in love with.

Nanaki gets a crush on Kanade, the ex mean girl of my dreams likes Nanaki, the fandom-url-haver is trying to make sense of the real life yuri happening around her, and Kanade is still asking "what the shit and fuck". The author draws amazing overdramatic screaming and crying faces. The manga is like, way less stupid than my goofy ass makes it out to be. Highly recommended. They should make an anime of it.
