This whole domestic abuse shit is gonna be so tricky to get out of. Like they will need to somehow recover Lestat from this, because he is the main character of the universe and they said they want to adapt all the material. For a protagonist the audience somehow does need to be invested in what happens to them next, in what they’re gonna do... and that is jeopardized with him having perpetuated heavy partner violence. Same as it would have been jeopardized if they had chosen to keep Louis as an 18th century slave owner.
They'll make it worse if they are going to try to justify it - an abuser who tries to talk themselves out of it is worse. They also can't just pull that Louis and/or Claudia made it up - after all the #MeToo backlash in recent years that would be in extremely poor taste. The only thing I can think of that could sort of work if Lestat's perspective would reveal that was actually an equal fight with heavy punches being thrown both ways, with Louis ultimately losing (and in his own mind erasing his share in it). It would still be much too much of a graphic violence over psychological horror add-on for my taste, and just generally be in poor taste imo, but it could work if carefully managed.
I don't know. I am really nervous that they screwed the pooch with a massively bad call here and imploded the whole project before we ever get to finally seeing the other books adapted. Still hoping they have some sort of trick up their sleeve and reveal to us that actually they are brilliant and had a really creative and clever thing planned all along to go with this in the next episodes. Let's hope and pray

Wake up bitches new theory just dropped: Armand made it all up. I will now be manifesting that for the whole duration itll take to wait for s2 because that would be such a stroke of genius for this universe. Mindcontrol Louis to make up a vile allegation about his ex Lestat is so on brand. And it sets Armand up perfectly for the absolute psychotic murder kitten role we all love him in. Man it will take us on the journey the books take you with this character- first he seems calm and wise, a fantastic alternative to Lestat. Which he has so far if you bought into Rashid. But with the stakes they have set in the show playing this card next season will help the reveal he is a manipulative fierce unhinged guy who holds grudges for decades and is so dedicated for revenge on Lestat, and that he really is very much not better than Lestat. Itll give something more than the Claudia mess to fuel the audience distrust and lovehate relationship with this character - which I think is needed with the more intensified stakes of amc. And itll be a perfect switcheroo moment to make Lestat more likable (to set him up as main character) and Armand distrusted. (To clarify: saying Louis or Claudia made it upmwould be in poor taste as they are meant to be protagonists and it would sit awkwardly in the narrative, with Armand it's great cause it can be put in the narrative as a bad thing to do). Aaaand when Daniel figures it out - which i am sure he will cause he's sharp here - itll set Devil's Minion 2.0 up perfectly because Daniel will have believable motivation to fear Armand to want to run away for a long ass time. Gawd i really hope i am right on the money here.
