Midnight whispers
Anime: Jujustu kaisen
Pair: satosugu
Short story, 1.2k words
Tw brief mention of suicide
âââââââââââââ
Satoru is drowining. No, he is⌠breathing? His lungs are on fire but he canât tell what from. Everything around him is a tangible black. A shade of darkness so thick and impenetrable that heâs not sure he can feel his own body. His mind is running thousand of miles per hour, and yet too slow at the same time. Flashes, pictures, vague concepts all torment him somewhere in the background of all of this. Dreams, he thinks. He canât make any sense of them, but deep down, in what he thinks is his soul, he feels heavy and sluggish. A grief dresses all those visions but to Satoru grief has no meaning anymore. He stopped caring for it a while ago.
The darkness has speed, he decides. While desperately trying to piece together a thought he felt it move. Itâs force was so strong that it felt his skin was being ripped apart and he tried to scream, but his lungs and throat failed him. Too full and too empty at the same time. Drowning in nothing and everything all at once. Yet he doesnât panic, no time for that. It seems familiar somehow, but as soon as he starts to find comfort in that it all changes.
His eyes struggle to focus and even though the pressure is gone he thinks itâs the darkness again.
âSatoruâŚâ a voice whispers and it startles Satoru awake finally. He feels as if he fell from the sky onto his soft bed, that he could swear was not there a second ago. His eyes start to adjust to the limited information and what he recognises now as the bedroom. âSatoruâ, the voice repeats a bit louder and Satoru wills his mind to a slow. He closes his eyes and takes a deep breath finally.
âSuguru,â he croaks and wonders if perhaps the fire in his throat was somehow real after all. His voice seems to be gone.
âAre you okay?â Suguru asks and Satoru feels his hand reach out for his own. He doesnât respond though.
âYou stopped breathing,â Suguru said and his tone just barely betrayed the worry he felt. To another person it would have sounded flat bur Satoru knew better.
âIâm sorry, it was just a bad dream. I didnât mean to wake you,â Satoru replied finally and turned to face Suguru in the dark. His racing heart had mostly calmed down and he reached out with a shaky hand to run his fingers through Suguruâs hair. It grounded him. Somehow when just moments ago nothing was real to him, Suguru is now here, solid and warm and alive. Satoru finds it hard to believe. He feels suspicion and anxiety rise in his throat but they are quickly squashed down by Suguru leaning into his touch.
âYou didnât wake me, donât be sorry,â Suguru said and pulled Satoru closer to him so he was resting on his chest. Satoru let out a long exhale through his nose. âDo you want to talk about it?â Suguru asked.
âNo,â Satoru said quickly. He felt that if he spoke more the spell would break. The comfort he found in Suguruâs arms was so familar and yet, it felt so far away. Suguru chuckled at his response. The sound felt way too loud for Satoruâs ears. Loud and scratchy, like a vinyl player that just didnât sound quite right. Satoruâs breath was the only thing that broke the silence for while.
âOkay,â Suguru replied eventually. Just like that, Satoru calmed down a bit more. He was grateful that he didnât have to talk about it. He tried to concentrate on the feeling of the bare muscle under his cheek, ground himself in the sent that could only be described as Suguru.
Suguru who always calmed Satoru down when he has a bad dream, no matter how tired he himself was. Suguru who didnât really like sweet things and yet he always chose them when offered because Satoru likes them. Suguru who projects quiet strength and power but is gentle and caring. Satoruâs mind filled with the warm memories and he smiled a bit to himself. It was just a bad dream after all.
Satoru snaked his hand on Suguruâs stomach, feeling all the muscles there, and slowly made his way up to his collarbone. He could never get tired of mentally mapping his body like this. His fingers drew lazy, vague shapes on the otherâs collarbones and neck. He made his way towards Suguruâs shoulder and his fingers touched something rough there. He laid his palm flat against Suguruâs body and felt for the hard bumpy surface there. A giant scar, Satoru thought. The scar felt angry and Satoru wondered how it wasnât painful. The skin around it was contorted and twisted in patterns that shouldnât be on a human body.
Satoruâs heartrate picked up. He moved his hand down Suguruâs arm, how far did the scar go? But instead of the soft flesh of his loverâs arm Satoru was greeted with nothing as his hand fell through the air where Suguruâs arm should have been.
Cold dread shot through Satoru instantly, so shocking he couldâve sworn he got electrocuted. Just like that, the body next to his was no longer warm. Instead it was cold and rigid. Unyielding underneath his own weight. Satoruâs mind was struggling to catch up. He tried to come up with an explanation for what was happening but he came up blank. His body started shaking from the cold, or was it from the panic? This canât be happening. Wait, what is happening? The circle of questions and empty answers started slowly eating him from the inside and he closed his eyes against a swarm of bright images that threatened to split his head open. Memories that made his dream in the darkness feel like a walk in the park. Memories and feelings so excruciating that he opened his mouth to scream and then everything stopped.
He was back in the thick darkness.
His room was gone and so was Suguru.
Was he ever in his room?
SuguruâŚ
Satoru felt a tear roll down his cheek. Slow and agonising like everything else in here. Like reliving his worse memories over and over again. The pain feeling fresh every time.
All his time in the prison realm though, as much as that was anyway, he never had a âdreamâ so real. So vivid that he himself forgot where he was.
Maybe his mind wanted to forget. And who was Satoru to resist? When ignorance felt so good. When dealing with dreams was so much easier than dealing with reality.
Satoru was tired. Even in his nothingness he could still think. His prison within the prison was his own head, and sometimes he caught himself wondering if he should end it. Make the nothingness outside of him match the one inside.
Then he would finally be able to rest in warm arms. Soft breaths and midnight whispers.

What Misfortune Gives You....
It was a rough day for Kamijou Touma in the new world. Many things happened, and as a result, he was just exhausted from the daily events of misfortune.
He sighed, having slumped over on a bench near the shore, taking a moment to relax for a bit after all of the chaos. He looked out to the sea to contemplate on what his next move would be.
There was apparently another Kamijou Touma in this world, and it was living here as if he had never left at all. It would explain a lot, but how was he going to handle this?
There should not be two Kamijou Toumas, and yet there is. He wondered if he should leave if his place here was already taken, however, there were still some things he wanted to tell a certain girl, things that was pretty much the reason for his coming here.
âWell, today was full of unexpected events, so who knows how the next day will go?â
He mused, having now decided what he was going to do.
Lucia did not seem to be aware of the fact that there were two Kamijous in this world, so all he needed to do was find the other Kamijou and explain everything to the both of them, why he was here and just what had been going on with them.
That was the best course of action, so he stood up, feeling confident that the next day was going to go well.
But in the midst of this good feeling, Kamijou Touma had forgotten one thing.
And that was misfortune was his constant companion.
This time though, it decided to reveal itself in one of the cruelest ways possible.
Cold.
Kamijou's body froze as images flashed through his mind, slumping over on the bench and holding onto it.
He never planned for it and he never once expected the images shooting through his head now but then again, if he could have possibly planned for them in the first place then the disorder that currently afflicted the spiky haired boy would not have had such a powerful grip over him. It was the irregularity of when it struck that served to be one of the greatest villains of all. There was nothing Kamijou could do as he was tormented with the images that flashed through his head.
A freezing cold that permeated his entire body thrust every sensation of Kamijou's into the depths of nothingness, the only thing he felt being the endless cold that surrounded him. There was nothing else and no movement or signals he sent to his body resulted in any change: only the cold existing and only Kamijou feeling it.
PTSD.
When Bowen Chuuno had restored his memories so that he remembered everything that happened with Index, Shokuhou Misaki, as well as everything else before the summer of his memoryâs destruction, certain memories that had been sealed away were starting to rise to the surface, sealed away for the purposes of protecting him were available to torment his mind and body once more. The memories of being killed at the hands of Othinus during an infinite hell were ones he had shut out of his mind as a self defense mechanism but now he once more had the chance to remember them, they had come to once more sink their painful claws and fangs into Kamijou.
âY...You're kidding... me....â
He tried to figure out what in the world had caused such an attack to happen, he had been fine up until this point and had not come into contact with anything that was destructive, but one thing came to mind when he tried to find an answer.
The sea.
The vast blue ocean in front of him.
He found himself in a place he never thought he would be in again. He was standing on a cliff where there was nothing but an ocean full of icy water at the end.
Kamijou felt an intense pain in his stomach as he looked down to find that a chunk of his abdomen had been completely blown away. He crumpled to the ground, holding that hole in his stomach as he looked up at the one who dealt the blow.
The Magic God Othinus with her lance Gungnir. The same lance that destroyed his universe and remade it repeatedly as she saw fit.
(You...have got to be kidding me!)
He was reliving the moments of one of the worst deaths he had experienced in the infinite hell. He wanted to move, to shake it off and to shatter this illusion concocted by his mind as best as he could, but he could not. His stomach was in pain, he felt a fierce chill all over, and he found that he could not breathe.
No words were said as the one who killed him struck him with her boot, sending him plummeting off the cliff and into the icy waters.
I canât breathe.
I canât breathe.Â
I canât breathe.Â
I canât breathe.Â
It hurts.
It hurts.
it hurts.
IT HURTS.
IT HURTS.
IT HURTS.Â
IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS!!!!!
He was drowning.
Kamijou could not breath, he could feel what he felt was water filling up his lungs and he tried desperately to get out of this hell as he flailed around.
He heard someone call out his name, but he didnât notice or care. He just wanted to get out, to get out of that freezing hell.
But as much as he tried, he could not escape to the surface, as he felt dark cold hands pull him down further. His vision was blurry, the light from the sun above was receding further
â?!!!!â
And to make matters worse, she found him.
The Magic God had found him and had not even uttered a word as she appeared from the depths and impaled his body once again with the lance.
Several duplicates of Othinus also emerged and started impaling him from all sides. pain shot through his body and it became so intense that the combination of the pain and the freezing cold had numbed his skin.
He was not only being drowned and impaled, but his body was becoming ice. It was becoming ice and the Magic god was chipping away at him, braking off the frozen pieces.
He watched as his left arm was snapped off like a statue had broken, then other parts of his body would follow suit.
he continued to be broken down into so many smaller pieces until only his head remained.
The golden lance was raised, poised to strike, and when it was thrust, he could hear the sound of something shattering.
âAhh.... AAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!â
Kamijou laid on the ground, screaming and gasping for as much air as he could, drawing the attention of some onlookers nearby. The nightmare seemed to have ended, but it was difficult for him to fully return back to his senses.

Juliette looked uncomfortable and Robin felt guilty. When heâd been dared to go to Old Teyuke, she was the one whoâd talked him out of it, citing poisonous snakes and the chance of century old rotting infrastructure collapsing. She clearly didnât want to be there, but wouldnât let him go alone either.
But he knew there was something there. Something had been killing the farmerâs livestock and he knew what heâd seen the day his family moved into town. He just needed the proof the giant spider actually existed.
But so far the ruins of the old town had yielded nothing but rot. And as curious as he was, he didnât feel like chancing going into one of the buildings.
âRobin, we should go.â Juliette hissed quietly.
âWe havenât even covered a third of the area.â he protested/
âI donât think weâre alone here.â Juliette whispered back. âI feel like weâre being watched, and I think I saw someone duck behind the old farmhouse.â
The hairs prickled up on the back of Robinâs neck. Suddenly the mystery of the giant spider could wait another day. âYeah, letâs get out-â something heavy slammed into the back of Robinâs head.Â
He hit the ground and his vision swam. He heard a growling and felt a meaty hand around his throat.
âYouâre one of them, arenât you?â A deep guttural voice said. âBut he isnât. You know what I want. Tell me where it is and maybe the little hume keeps his neck.â
Robins vision began to clear and he saw a man holding him down. But he was...wrong. Something in his face, his jaws, his nose. It wasnât right.
âI donât know what you mean.â He heard Juliette sob.
The man stood up, pulling him along, and Robin got a look at where the growling had come. It was a hairless beast, vaguely resembling a bear, but the size of large dog. And far, far, too many teeth.
âWell, if youâre not one of them, guess thereâs no reason to let either of you live.â The hand around his neck squeezed tighter. Robin struggled, trying to pry the fingers off, but the grips was like iron. âW-wait. Itâs in the basement of one of the farmhouses.â Juliette stammered out.
Sheâs bluffing Robin realized. But what else could she do? If the man didnât get what he wanted, heâd kill them both. If she tried to run, the dog-thing would chase her down. All she could do was buy time.
âShow me.â the man demanded.
Juliette sniffled but got up, looking around and trying to get her bearings. She lead them to a partially collapsed house, to a set of storm doors off to the side. âDown there.â âOpen them.â The man ordered. âThen you go first.â He shook Robin to make his point.
Juliette struggled to pull the doors open and tentatively walked down the earthen steps. The man followed, dragging Robin along with the weird dog at their heels.
âItâs in the well.â Juliette pointed to the rough stone circle Robin could barely make out.
âIs it now?â The man went to look, not letting his grip up on his hostage. He peered into the well. âI donât see anything. Maybe your friend can.â
Without warning Robinâs head was shoved underwater. He reflexively screamed, air escaped in bubbles, only to be replaced by water. It was cold, so much colder than it should have been so early in Autumn.
The hand that held his head under was knocked aside and Robin fell back, coughing up water. He felt cold all over, like heâd been dunked in ice. He heard a struggle, but it was so hard to sit up, so hard to focus.
He heard a cry, not from Juliette, but from the man. He managed to focus on the struggle and the shot of adrenaline flooded him. The man who tried to drown him was on the ground and perched above him was a spider-like creature. Itâs body shape was roughly human, but the arms, legs, fingers, and toes were extended to inhuman lengths. Four more limbs, decidedly spider-like, sprouted from itâs back. Itâs head was buried into the neck of the man, all Robin could see was long hair streaming off his head.
He screamed and itâs head whipped around, revealing far too many eyes and fanged mandibles extruding from itâs mouth.Â
âRobin?â It said in Julietteâs voice.

Unlike the others, this is from an original story Iâve been working on since middle school. I had five âbooksâ planned, with this being from the first, âThe Spider of Teyukeâ. The series would follow ânew kid in townâ Robin Corwyn as his family moves to the small town of Teyuke. It involves some of my favorite things, namely monsters and people turning into monsters.

Drowning
You know how when youâre drowning, you donât actually inhale until right before you black out. Well... you were my inhale. It was like, no matter how much I was freaking out, the instinct to not let you in was so strong, that I couldnât until I felt my head was about to explode. Little did I know that what I would inhale would kill me. You were what killed me. What is still killing me. And you donât care.

HANNA KATE RILEY was born on the 2ND OF MAY in the year 1993. They work as an ENVIRONMENTAL BIOLOGIST. HANNAâs pronouns are SHE/HER. fc: benedetta gargari { played by sam, 23, she/her, aest }
HEADCANONS
Hanna went vegetarian at 12 and vegan at 17. Sheâs been vegan for the last ten years only making exceptions for honey every so often and the occasional semi-disastrous mix up with cheese.
Her uncle is an avid conspiracy theorist, and while Hanna doesnât subscribe to it as much as he does, she does give into a good conspiracy or cryptid very easily. She has a collection of Mothman Festival shirts from her uncle from over the years that make up a significant portion of her wardrobe (when sheâs off work, of course).
As easily guessed by her career choice, Hanna is a big environmentalist. Besides her career the way she expresses that love for the planet the most is through her collection of plants. Both her home and her office are littered with them and she cares for them all very deeply. Not all have names but the ones that have been with her for a long time do (Darryl the Devilâs Ivy, Galina the Monstera, and Spike the Hedgehog Aloe just to name a few), she loves buying new plants but tries to limit herself for the sake of her coworkers and her live-in girlfriend.
She cannot drive, or at the very least she canât drive well. Her guardians insisted she learn when she was 16 as a life skill she would likely need but she has avoided it as much as possible since she passed her test. She relies mainly on her bike, public transport, and if nothing else rides from those around her or ride share apps. She hasnât been behind the wheel herself in at least 4 years.
A textbook old soul. She loves reading, puzzles, she can crochet she wants to get better at it. She doesnât like social media, doesnt understand it, only really has it for communication reasons and prefers calling over texting when she canât meet face to face with someone.
Was your character born and raised here? If so- why havenât they left town? If not- what brought them to town?
Hanna was not, she was born and raised in the small Wisconsin town of Cedarburg. She moved to Beaver Cove because of a job opportunity. A part of a research team monitoring natural ecosystems in the local area under the effects of climate change and various pollutions but also conducting impact reports and assessments. Â Very fancy way of saying she collects samples and records their data. Before Beaver Cove she studied her masters in Environmental Science at the University of Toronto, following that by working as a part of an analyst team for environmental impacts on different developments. The offer in Nova Scotia was by scale a lot smaller but it was a lot more hands on and completely rounded, not just looking at numbers and reports day in and day out which was exactly the change Hanna wanted.
How does your character feel about the drownings? Do they think itâs accidental thing or a conspiracy? Please explain position.
She canât help but lean a little more on the side of conspiracy. She has a suspicious mind and finds it hard to believe that itâs all purely coincidental. She thinks itâs tragic of course, and maybe the drownings themselves are accidental, but she thinks something more going on. However, while she is still relatively new in town, and her partner is part of the team investigating, she doesnât want to stick her nose in and get them in trouble.
What is your characterâs favourite thing or place about or around town? And why?
It may be obvious at this point but Hannaâs love lies in the environment. She loves spending time by the sea, whether it be the docks or out by the lighthouse, as well is wandering the different trails around town. On top of that, sheâs a big, big sucker for the library. She loves libraries, loves books, and is always charmed by a well worn book under the yellow light of an old library light. Beyond that, sheâs still new, sheâs still figuring out the places she likes. Largely she prefers to prepare her own meals and not eat out too much but being in a new place there is a certain fun in discovering new places to eat, new things to do, and new places that will become regulars. Overall, if you look past the drownings (a horrible thing to say, i know), Hanna is incredibly charmed by Beaver Cove as a whole.
What was your characterâs childhood like? Are they close with their family? Are they estranged? Do they have siblings? Are they adopted? Do they have a found family? Tell us about who they call family
Hannaâs family is complicated. She keeps it rather private as itâs just easier that way than explaining it. Sheâs an only child, and she was raised mostly by her paternal grandparents. When Hanna was too young to remember, her mother left her father, and also her. She still doesnât know exactly what happened only that her father took it pretty hard. To help out, his parents largely took on the task of raising Hanna. They became her guardians and the people Hanna always thought of as her parents. As sheâs gotten older sheâs come to understand more about why that had to happen, but in truth thereâs still a lot about her family that she doesnât know and she doesnât want to ask. She loves them, sheâs very grateful for the life sheâs had because of them, but in truth it wasnât hard for her to leave for college and then move to Canda to chase her dream career. She has kept a lot of things from her family over the years and she is rather sentimental about them, but she wouldnât go back unless she had to. Sheâs glad to be out of her home town and she is glad to have some significant distance between herself and her family. She considers her girlfriend a part of her family, or her found family, but not many others have maintained that level with Hanna. Sheâs not an easy person to get close to.
What is the first thing someone notices about your character?
Her resting bitch face. Maybe once she was as judgemental as she sometimes looks but sheâs not anymore. Sheâs trying to unlearn the habit, and slowly it is getting there, her expressions are becoming softer, but seeing as it was a defence tactic as a teenager against bullies or anyone else in small town Wisconsin that might call her a stick in the mud its taking some time. And, you know, itâs still sort of handy when you donât want anyone to speak to you on a bus.

Was your character born and raised here? If so- why havenât they left town? If not- what brought them to town?
willow was born in beaver cove to a single mother and was going to leave for school but had to defer her acceptance as her grandmother got sick.Â
How does your character feel about the drownings? Do they think itâs accidental thing or a conspiracy? Please explain position.Â
the drownings has always perplexed her, her mind wanting to pass them off as an accidental thing but when she hears about the details all being far too similar she canât help but think itâs something more sinister.Â
What was your characterâs childhood like? Are they close with their family? Are they estranged? Do they have siblings? Are they adopted? Do they have a found family? Tell us about who they call family.
Growing up it was just her Grandma and her mother in a creaky house in beaver cove. She never had a father figure as her grandfather had passed away before she was born and she never met her father. It used to bother her but as she grew up it became less important to her. Shes an only child.Â

JAMEL WELLS was born on the 10THÂ OF FEBRUARY in the year 1995. They work as an PODCASTER AND WORKS AT THE LOCAL RECORD SHOP. JAMELâs pronouns are HE/HIM. fc: justice smith { played by admin bee, 26, she/her, est timezone }
HEADCANONS
jamel has always been far too curious for his own good, even from a young age, heâd ask too many questions. a curiosity that has led him to being suspicious of anything that doesnât have a clear answer. he definitely has bought into a couple of conspiracy theories; though only ones with good bearings.Â
heâs into true crime, a hobby he shares with his closest friend lake.Â
when heâs not with lake or doing their podcast heâs usually at home or at his job at the local record shop.
heâs really into music of all genres and is always making his friends playlists.Â
jamel never attended college, not having the motivation or the money to go. he preferred to get real life experience.Â
heâs friendly but keeps a tight knit circle and only opens up to a few select people.Â
the only person who can call him wells is lake.Â
Was your character born and raised here? If so- why havenât they left town? If not- what brought them to town?
Jamel was bored and raised in Beaver Cove, he claims that he wants out - to see the world - but thereâs too much holding him back. Mainly his family who he cares deeply about and does his best to help out.Â
How does your character feel about the drownings? Do they think itâs accidental thing or a conspiracy? Please explain position.Â
Jamel believes that the drownings are a conspiracy. One or two could be passed off as a coincidence but four? All of the details and the timing of it seems far too suspicious for him to pass off as accidental.Â
What is your characterâs favourite thing or place about or around town? And why?
His favourite place is a secret lookout of the cove that he has stumbled upon on one of his walks; a place most donât know about and where he can go to think without all the noise. He has only brought a few people there and it is mostly undisturbed.Â
What was your characterâs childhood like? Are they close with their family? Are they estranged? Do they have siblings? Are they adopted? Do they have a found family? Tell us about who they call family.
Jamel was born to a tight knit family and has remained that way. he still lives at home, though he has since moved into the basement rather than his childhood bedroom for some space. he has two younger siblings which heâs very close with.Â

TRISTAN TYLER HACKER was born on the 21ST OF NOVEMEBER in the year 1992. They work as an RCMP OFFICER. TRISTANâs pronouns are HE/HIM. fc: chris wood { played by d, 24, she/her, gmt+7 timezone }
tw: divorce, cops & childhood bullying
HEADCANONS
Tristan is very big on skincare. He has an elaborate morning and night skincare routine, he has a tube of hand cream on him at all times because having dry skin is the enemy, and he proudly concocts and routinely does a facial mask.
Tristan is Keto. Or so he claims. He talks big about the healthy lifestyle but heâs been seen with a plate of fries on occasion. (Though if you ever bring it up to him, heâll claim you were seeing things.)
Tristan had an âidealâ high school experience. Or ideal in his mind anyway. He was your typical popular jock⌠and bully. But he graduated with a 4.0 GPA and was never caught for any of his bad behavior so he considers it a win.
Tristan doesnât come from a well-off family. He worked hard at school because he knew the only he was going to college was on a full-ride. He attended Michigan State University and majored in Criminal Justice.
Tristan is half Canadian but doesnât like to talk about it. He blames his mother for being born in the wrong country. On the bright side, he has two passports⌠that he hasnât been able to use because heâs never been outside of North America.
Was your character born and raised here? If so- why havenât they left town? If not- what brought them to town?
Tristan moved to Beaver Cove almost 7 years ago on account of his estranged mother. She reached out to him during his final year of college and they reconnected and rebuilt their tarnished relationship over the course of that year. He was originally only going to visit her and spend the summer there to make up for lost time, but during his stay, she got into a near-death accident and Tristan stayed behind to nurse her back to health. Deciding he didnât feel right returning to Michigan and leaving his motherâs safety to chance, Tristan moved to Beaver Cove indefinitely and found a job there.
How does your character feel about the drownings? Do they think itâs accidental thing or a conspiracy? Please explain position.
Tristan finds it suspicious. The only reason he canât find it in himself to write it off as âaccidentalâ is because every âaccidentâ happens to fall on the same day every 5 years. He doesnât like what a big spectacle it has become but he doesnât like making his concern about the situation known either for fear of being written off as âkookyâ or âparanoidâ. Considering his job, he likes to give very political answers when it comes to explaining his position. He often says he doesnât like to speculate but it is very concerning and the police department is doing their best to ensure such things donât occur again in the future.
What is your characterâs favourite thing or place about or around town? And why?
Tristanâs favorite place around town is the Catch of the Day seafood restaurant. He and his mother have a meal there together every weekend. Itâs their little ritual. She really loves the calamari there and he really loves seeing her happy and hearing her make the same dumb joke about being on a âsee foodâ diet without fail every time theyâre there.
What was your characterâs childhood like? Are they close with their family? Are they estranged? Do they have siblings? Are they adopted? Do they have a found family? Tell us about who they call family.
Tristan doesnât have the greatest family life. Heâs an only child. His father was a self-absorbed lawyer. His kindhearted mother who finally had enough walked out and left Tristan with his dad when he was only 15. The divorce files came around a year later. He was deeply traumatized by it and lashed out by becoming a bully at school. He hates his father for making his mother abandon them and hasnât spoken to him since he graduated high school. For a long time, he was upset at his mother too but now that theyâve reconnected, sheâs the most important person in his life. If you ask him, his only family is his mother. He doesnât know where his dad is and he doesnât care.
What is the first thing someone notices about your character?
The first thing anyone notices about Tristan is his confidence. He radiates it. One might even say it borders being cocky. But he canât himself. Heâs proud of the life heâs created even if itâs not exactly as he planned and everything about it is from his own hard work. Itâs not uncommon to find him with a smirk sitting on his lips. Heâs charming and he knows it. And if certain people in the police department find it grating, Tristan claims itâs only because he out-performs all of them regularly.

JOHNNIE TANAKA was born on the 19TH OF JANUARY in the year 1996. They work as a REPORTER FOR THE COVE CHRONICLES. JOHNNIEâs pronouns are HE/HIM. fc: ryan potter { played by tommy, 23, they/them, pst }
HEADCANONS
He grew up in Halifax, Nova Scotia, with two parents who got married too young and too immature to deal with each other. Now that he thinks of it, divorce was the most mature thing either of them did. Mr. Tanaka was avoidant and careful with his work. Ms. ânee Brenner constantly looked for distractions and excuses to keep secrets. After their divorce, they both tried to change. Cue the attempts of parenting from Ms. Brenner and random road trips from Mr. Tanaka. It was very confusing.
Heâs had one solid girlfriend in college, and he found her to be clingy and emotionally confusing. Naturally, he broke it off with her near the end of college. He tried to make his way in New York City, but he found the whole place too big and complicated, and he got weirdly homesick. In that fit of homesickness, he reconnected with his ex. That was a mistake.
He learned quickly that the way to make it as a reporter is to start in a small town. So, he picked Beaverâs Cove. Small enough for him to actually take a slot in the local newspaper, but interesting enough that his portfolio wonât be comprised of totally boring stories.
He has a penchant for developing half-hearted connections and one-night stands, and he finds that he can get bored pretty easily. Thatâs half the reason half the town girlsâ numbers are in his mental Rolodex. When heâs not engaging himself in that type of hobby, he takes an interest in the music scene and local city politics.
How does your character feel about the drownings? Do they think itâs accidental thing or a conspiracy? Please explain position.
He thinks itâs a very bizarre coincidence. But⌠sometimes he wonders if the second drowning was someone elseâs attempt to mimic the first, and the third drowning is someone new trying to mimic the second.
But thatâs just a running theory. Heâs not sure if he, a newbie reporter, can really pin down the truth.
What was your characterâs childhood like? Are they close with their family? Are they estranged? Do they have siblings? Are they adopted? Do they have a found family? Tell us about who they call family.
His parents are divorced, and heâs an only child. His mother had a tendency to carry out short term affairs that she forced Johnnie to hide, and his father tended to throw himself into his work â his professorial work.
His tendency to want those that understood his situation made him âadoptâ siblings, so to speak. Other only children, those who grew up in foster homes, other kids with divorced parents⌠those are people he considers his âsiblings.â Or so-called cousins, at the very least.
What is the first thing someone notices about your character?
He looks a little bit aloof, but perks up immediately the second you get his attention. And, as he gets comfortable, he takes on a cool, relaxed demeanor more befitting a surfer guy than one of a reporter in a town famous for its drowning.
But even thatâs a mask.

Callieâs birth parents werenât wealthy in any way and had a run down car. After driving late at night trying to get back to the shelter that had been staying at, the engine stalled and they ran off the road causing it to crash. Both her birth parents passed away, but Callie survived.Â

Born and raised. She never really had a reason to leave. She enjoys it here, even though the drownings are weird.
How does your character feel about the drownings? Do they think itâs accidental thing or a conspiracy? Please explain position.
She definitely thinks itâs a conspiracy. Something must be happening. Callie definitely listens to Lakeâs podcasts as soon as theyâre out, so sheâs very obsessed with the whole ordeal.
What is your characterâs favourite thing or place about or around town? And why?
Honestly? Calypso loves the water. She enjoys going to the beach and the pool. She also truly likes Pins and Needles, the bowling alley. Itâs one of her favorite spots growing up as a child, and it has sentimental value.
What is the first thing someone notices about your character?
The dimples and her smile. For sure. She also has a nice body and knows it.
