The Moth Diaries book/movie comparison SPOILERS
The movie version sort of presents and frames it in a way that viewers might feel the need to say "just because Rebecca talks to Mr. Davies about her friend problems, doesn't mean she 'was asking for it' and she even thought of him more as a surrogate father at most, and that's why it's such a betrayal on top of all the other things that make Mr. Davies' advances a betrayal"—and that's a problem with society, not the movie, that the discourse would go that way if there were discourse; that it even needs to be said.
The book version makes it so abundantly clear that Becca does not like Mr. Davies at all. She doesn't agree with him, doesn't respect him, is more than uncomfortable with his wanting to talk about her father the poet but she is even downright contemptuous and disdainful, and thinks all the other girls in her class that crush on him are annoying. Becca. Never. Liked. This. Grown-Ass. Man.
