Rectors of Tver Medical University and her husband were accused of extortion

Rector Chichanovskaya authorized negotiations with the Central Educational Center regarding the new enrollment of foreign students in 2019, her husband Alexander Samukhin, who is also a well-known entrepreneur in Tver and chairman of the public council of the Tver Region Investigative Committee. Alexander Samukhin, as noted in the statement, tried to extort a bribe from the company's management. “On September 19, 2019, the secretary of the admissions committee Vadim Mikin informed me that for our company there will be no recruitment of applicants this year, referring to the direct instruction of the rector L. Chichanovskaya And then, on September 19, she wrote a letter to a certain Aksenova, where Chichanovskaya herself asked to send an additional 30 students to study at the university. As a result, not a single Indian citizen entered the university this year. In this regard, the company suffered huge losses (advertising, purchase of air tickets, conclusion of contracts in India with parents of students) in the amount of about 320 million rubles, ”the entrepreneur says in a statement to the Investigation Department.

an interview with the information portal Tverigrad.ru accused Indian students of "low level of training", comparing them with applicants from other countries. “After a thorough analysis, we came to the conclusion that in recent years the reception of foreign students at our place was carried out, to put it mildly, incorrectly. Judge for yourself, the cost of training a Russian student and a foreign student was exactly the same: 148,000 rubles for a freshman. At the same time, the university spent several times more resources on foreigners, including visa support, teaching the Russian language, providing a hostel, and so on. In addition, most of the foreign students were supplied by a recruiting company, which constantly delayed tuition fees. These foreigners were distinguished by a rather low level of training, ”the rector said in an interview.

“The cost of training is set by the university independently by order of the rector and with the consent of the academic council of TSMU,” commented the statement of the rector, the representative of the CMO Chaud M.R. - A firm cannot influence the cost of training in any way. I note that the cost of training for foreign students is 20-30% higher than for Russian students. Teaching the Russian language is included in the payment and allows university professors to earn money. Dormitory accommodation is included in the payment, that is, this is also the income of the university. As for the quality of student training, last year 8 students from India received honors.
