HELLO HI THANK YOU FOR YOUR REPLY!💖
Here’s a quick reference to Chong Kraben (or Jong Kraben). And, you’re absolutely right. It’s actually spelled “Chong Kraben”, but since I’m Thai myself, I usually translate Thai words in to an English spelling myself without relying on google😭🙏
The reason I wrote “Jong Kraben” is because the letter จ in โจง (Jong) is “J”— so I wasn’t expecting it to be spelled with a “CH” at all. Otherwise it’s be โชงกระเบน (but then that would sound like Shong Kraben? Thai is hard so I give up😔 don’t worry about spelling or butchering Thai words because I, as a Thai person, do it too </3) Anyway, this is a mistake on my part for not writing the correct spelling for the Thai word i deeply apologize🥲.
ANYWAY- BACK TO THE (horrible) REFERENCE SHEET!
Anan and Charin don’t wear Chong Kraben. They wrap a towel around their waist like in the first and second photo! I just realized that I’ve never made a character sheet for them (since I’ve never expected any fanarts of them at all whoops💀) and that Charin’s towel is barely visible in his character introduction post. Another mistake on my part, super sorry.😭
Also, I’ve looked through most (if not all) of the photos on google on Chong Kraben and yeah, they’re pretty accurate so don’t worry about drawing them wrong🫶
Chong Kraben is actually a long piece of fabric, wrapped around your waist and tied into pants (I explained it weirdly, I know, but I’ll add a video down below to show you how Chong-Kraben works!)
That said, if you find a Chong Kraben photo that looks odd (as in they look like they’re pre made), don’t worry, it’s a normal thing. Most children wear pre-made Chong Kraben. However, most people just get a towel (or a big piece of fabric) and make the Chong Kraben themselves. The fabric are usually silks!
There are a few (or many, but I do know some) ways to tie a Chong Kraben— but here’s a common one. However, this method needs a belt (some don’t).
(here’s an update— my dumbass just searched what the towel is called in English and it’s called a sash. My dumbass strikes once again BUT IN MY DEFENSE I DIDN’T KNOW WHAT IT’S CALLED IN THAI EITHER SO-)
Here are some examples on the sashes! You can search ผ้าผูกเอว if you wanna see more photos💖
Anan and Charin don’t have Chong Kraben on so don’t worry about drawing it. BUT Pin-Cha wears them (with a belt made of jewels, no less) so if you want to draw Pin-Cha in the future, lmk so I can quickly whip up a proper reference sheet!!🫶✨
I assume you got the Chong Kraben part on Pin-Cha’s little fun-fact design sjifjusbhcjisiidnu but yeah, dw about it the other two boys don’t wear em! I mentioned that the way people tie the sashes look a little similar to the knots on (some) Chong Kraben, sorry if there’s any misunderstanding I’m not very good with words myself🥹🙏
As you can see from the reference photos, there are many and creative ways to tie a sash- much as how to tie your own Chong Kraben. But thank you, and I mean it, thank you for asking me about this! It’s okay to not know something, what matters is that you are willing to learn/find info about it without coming off as disrespectful💪✨ i don’t mind asking questions like these at all so feel free to ask me more!
This is the LONGEST POST I’VE WRITTEN IN THE HISTORY OF MY OWN BLOG😧 I’m pretty sure that what I’m typing here probably doesn’t make sense because my brain is a jumbled mess. I suck at explaining things😭 I completely understand your concern on drawing it right or not though because I would be too💀 especially when I’m drawing things that are not from my culture.
I’ll drop by with a proper reference sheet soon! I’m back to being busy again and I suck at time management so let’s see if “soon” is actually true😭 THANK YOU AGAINNNNN💖🥹
PERMISSION TO DRAW THIS PLEASE I’LL TAG YOU (for the delicious brainrot you gave me)😭🙏✨✨
To draw the birthing of a conch after 9 months of pregnancy or to draw Paulie taking Pin-cha over to NRC? (Joking, I'm pretty sure you mean Paulie... right?) Go right ahead! I'm completely fine with anyone using my twst ocs (that are apart of dorms/based off disney characters) but definitely would love to be tagged so I can see it!
(Though it it's actually just Pin-cha bringing in dirt, of course you can. I don't really feel claim/ownership over general ideas. The only things I would want tagging/ownership of is my ocs. Oh what if it's the sitting at Azul's desk part? What if Pin-cha's so short that you can barely see his head with the desk in the way?)
Oh I've gotten like halfway through with the comic I'm making that has Anan and Charin in it. I was going to message you in regards to the Jong-kra-ben but realized with how I've drawn so far, that I don't think there's enough of it shown to actually worry if I've gotten it right. Though since you are messaging, may I ask if they both wear a Jong-kra-ben? (Crap I'm hoping I'm remembering how that's spelled exaclty) I've looked it up but I'm uncertain if Google was actually showing me the right thing as it was also showing results for like a Chong-kraben or something of similar spelling... plus the article that explained how to wear it looked different to your drawings.
Do you already have some drawings or reference images in regards to that type of clothing? Sadly my american schooling has basically taught me nothing when it comes to the world outside of America.. Uhhmm you can answer this in your own post or reblogging if you do want to answer my question regarding Jong-kra-ben. You don't have to answer if you don't want to. Though answers regarding to at least if they wear the same thing or not would be nice as I'm clueless.
Here's a link to Paulie's ref/post so you don't have to hunt him down!
#also thank you for the permission🧎♀️🧎♀️#I definitely understand your point on that one#it’s on me tho- im an overthinker#and I thought that y’know maybe some people#arent okay with their ideas stolen#so like i always wanna credit my source of inspiration!#which in this is your delicious brainrot#because holy shit#everything you write gives me brainrot in the best way possible#i love answering all yours asks and questions#everytime I see you on my inbox im like HELL YEAHH LET ME SEE-#also a fun fact#you can use the tying technique for chong kraben on skirts too#me and my female classmates do that sometimes when we’re not wearing pants and we need to do like#activities that are a bit difficult to move around in skirts#so we just#turn those skirts into pants SUJDINUSNDUKOSJUCNIJSD#❦siphok-reblogs❦
