This is me and Sam! Sam is a 2 year old heritage turkey hen who had been missing from her farm for 1 week when she turned up in our front yard. My husband woke me up early on Sunday when he saw this girl. She had a red tag on her leg and is all black, making him realise she is not a wild turkey. We caught her and put her in the chicken run (chickens were kept separate), and then I posted a found add online. WITHIN AN HOUR, her mama reached out to me. I was so happy and amazed that we were able to connect! Sam was collected by her dad and is now safe at home. Iris and her friend Joe both lost so much in the #campfire. Iris lost her boyfriend of over twenty years, Andrew, who also happened to be Joe’s very close friend. They also both lost their homes and everything they owned. Today, they came out to volunteer at the sanctuary to create a new home for rescued turkeys who were saved from a slaughterhouse the week of Thanksgiving. These people who have lost so much, gave of themselves all day with smiles on their faces and kindness in their hearts.
