great to spend some time among these peeps, including such an encouraging plethora of the curious and emerging dramaturgy-inclined.

Protip: when recording a run for your creative team, make sure they can see the part of the stage where most of the action takes place.

Guys, so my name was just included in a facebook post from American Theater Magazine as “Dramaturg.” Winning.
Also I’ve been drinking.

Just looked at the dramaturgy packet that director sent because he wants me to format it similarly to how they do at their theater. They “excerpted and adapted” one of their articles from Wikipedia. Whoever dramaturged that show was dramaturging WRONG. GOOD DAY, SIR.

Adventures in having an assistant for the first time: did I tell her not to use Wikipedia? Does she already know? She’s smart and has kind of done this before so I’m sure she’ll be on top of it. Did I give her enough work? Too much? This isn’t even going to be made into a packet, it’s all going on dropbox and isn’t a big deal. Should I have told her to do two versions of the glossary (one for adults/one for kids)? Did I make a mistake? I haven’t worked with her but I trust her so this should all work out well? I need to remember to ask the Assoc. D if I should have her write something for the program.
Adventures in dramaturgy: Did I gather enough resources? Should I just review those tomorrow before I decide I need A MILLION MORE? What the hell am I writing for the program note? I hate writing program notes but I love having my name be in a program with something I wrote. Why are program notes?

That time when a theater calls their season “ALL Lives Matter” (puke) and, of the four they’ve announced, it seems like at least three of them are by white men--the fourth is a play I don’t know with a title that’s extremely hard to google.
Yeah...

LMDA
Ugh, day rates for the conference are $100 and, if I get the early bird student/intern rate, it’s $150 for the whole conference (hopefully that will go through since I’ll be an apprentice with one of their speakers next season). WHAT DO? (Keep in mind: the whole conference means food, transit, and having a place to stay in addition to the money for the conference itself).

Okay but starting on Sunday, I'm watching all the television. Two techs is too many in one week.
(I will not get sick.)

Okay, I'm still totes a noob to Twitter but I got retweeted by one of my favorite shows. I rule.
(Also, you should be watching Masters of Sex. One of the scenes in tonight's episode was so perfect, I was actually on the edge of my seat. Me. You know me. I'm a grouchy, elitist playwright/dramaturg).

Already behind on research schedule, although the director did not give me a deadline so it's not the end of the world. Also my sinuses are insane and I feel like I could have another bout of scaryinsanewhatthefuckiswrongwithme vertigo if I try to focus on anything. (Had vertigo for two days the week before last. It was horrific.) So... yeah, that's why the work suffers.
Right? Right.

Addendum
Day 45: Stanley, a sprightly 86 year old man who's been going to the theater since the age of 22, told us during the talk back that this show was the best thing he'd ever seen. And he was just so enthusiastic and excited and joyful and passionate and EVERYTHING about this man is who I want to be when I'm 86. I want to still love theater that fucking much.

This Week
Franny and Zooey rehearsals begin. Two talk backs. A playwright's festival for the undergrads. A few classes. A few meetings (one with the evilest of the evils, ugh). It doesn't look that bad but it does when some of those days have more than one event. Or it seems daunting.
But I can do it. I have pretty dresses.

'Shall I try to get Buddy on the phone?' She shook her head, without raising it. She went on searching for fleas. Then, after an interval, she did reply to Zooey's question, but not very audibly. 'What?' Zooey asked. Franny repeated her statement. 'I want to talk to Seymour,' she said.

Things That Make Fiona Happy, Day 34: I watched the Mad Men series premiere and went to cat sit a little later than usual. The cat was so excited to see me, but I really had to pee. I fed him and ran to the bathroom. He decided he wanted the attentionz and followed me. At first, he put his paws on my thighs. I put them down. He put them back on my thighs. Then he jumped on my lap. While I was peeing. I enjoy cat sitting and the hilarity it brings. Also: finishing my translation work, finishing Franny and Zooey, being nearly complete with Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, and being ahead of schedule on my work.
