i know tumblr’s alt text feature can be touchy sometimes, so here’s the id in plain text for anyone who needs it!
Image ID: A guide to writing alt text on images. At the top, it says "Writing Alt Text" in big white text. It then lists off five major steps to writing alt text. Identify who, expression, description, color, and interesting features. It then shows an image of a capybara, with a sample alt text that reads, "A capybara looking relaxed in a hot spa. Yellow yuzu fruits are floating in the water, and one is balanced on top of the capybara's head." with each block of text color-coordinated to show which of the five steps it corresponds to. At the bottom of the image is the word "Puzzle" stylized into a logo. End ID.
i’ve been writing image descriptions on tumblr for 5 years now, and this is one of the best guides i’ve seen to break down the process. some other tips are to specify when something is in caps lock. if you’re writing a description in the body of a post like i did above; don’t change the text color, use the default font, and don’t use italics, bolding, or underlining!
also, if someone adds an id to your non described post, please add it to the original post as alt text and/or in the caption—i know a lot of people don’t realize it’s most helpful from the original post itself
i hope people see this and start incorporating descriptions more, it’s so important to make this website accessible for everyone!
yknow i never noticed the sheer rareness of images having ids or alt text on this website until i started adding alt text to my art (and trying to remember to add it to any images i post in general, especially text screenshots) and that makes me kinda sad
