Pairing: Steve Harrington x Reader 

Summary: (Y/N), also known as Nine, was a girl being experimented on all her life by the Hawkins Lab, conditioned into following every command her brain heard. She managed to escape the lab, with the help of her little sister Eleven, and was taken in by Hopper. Now, it’s a year later, and the three of them are a happy family. She just got her first job, where she works alongside Steve “The Hair” Harrington… who her father doesn’t much like.

Notes: This is the “Lot of Livin’ To Do” redo! Even if you read that prologue, please read this one as well, since I nearly doubled it in length! 

“I thought you forgot about me!” You sobbed, your face pale.

He held your head up, his eyes wild. “Never, Kiddo. Believe me, I would never.”

You clenched your hand around your open wound on your stomach, crying both tears of pain and happiness that you had been found.

“Shit, we gotta go, like, now.” He said, covering one of his own hands around your wound, trying to apply pressure and stop the never-ending bleeding while trying not to hurt you still.

“What?!” You cried, your breaths heavy. “N-No! They- Them! They’re still out there! And- and, and I wanna...” You dissolved into heavy sobs in his shoulder, and he held you tight against him, knowing that, in this second, he could protect you.

“Ssh... Kid, listen. El got them. They’re dead. But I promised her that when I found you, I’d take you straight to her for help. And... and I’ve found you.”

He hoisted you to your feet, and you almost collapsed instantly. “Shit.” He mumbled a quick, “C’mon, Kid. Up we go,” while picking you up in his arms. 

“Thank you Hopper.” You whispered. 

He huffed. “Don’t mention it.”

“Can you… tell me a story?” You asked, your head spinning from the amount of blood that had escaped. 

He sighed. “Once upon a time, there was a guy. And a girl.” At this point he was more carrying you than helping you walk. “They went to high school together. They used to meet under the bleachers, in the stairwell, wherever they could.” Your breaths were sharp and ragged. “They smoked together. And one day… Joyce-” 

He looked down, and your eyes were closed. “Fuck. Kid!” He said, shaking you in his arms. When you stirred, but didn’t wake or open your eyes, he broke into a sprint down the hall.

“Someone! Anyone! Help!” He yelled.

Mike and Lucas skidded down the hall. “Hopper!” Lucas yelled. They ran to each other, and the two young boys quickly spun around to match the direction that Hopper was running in with you. 

“We need to find someone.” Hopper said, his breathing ragged.

Mike cursed. “Mrs. Byers is down the hall, but she still hasn’t found anyone.”

“El!” Lucas yelled. The young girl turning the corner.

“Stop!” She yelled, halting all of you in an intersection of corridors. “Put her down.” she said, pointing at your body.

Hopper set you down on the cold linoleum floor. He watched as your chest rose and fell shallowly, one arm loosely draped over your own face.

The crimson stain of your shirt was growing ever larger, and it almost made Hopper’s stomach queasy.

Eleven closed her eyes and gripped one of your hands in her own.

“Mike, take off her shirt.” She said, turning her head toward Mike, but keeping her eyes closed.

Mike’s face turned bright red. Lucas awkwardly coughed and looked away as Mike lifted your shirt, revealing the most horrible gash in your skin that Hopper had ever seen. And he was in the police force.

He watched quietly as Eleven kept your hand in one of hers, and placed her other hand lightly on the injury. And although you weren’t conscious, your body contracted in pain when El’s small fingers touched it.

There were footsteps down the hall as Joyce came from one hallway, followed by Nancy and Jonathan. 

Everyone now was gathered around you and Eleven as the cut noticeably faded. The blood that had escaped your body already had stayed, though, keeping your skin shiny and your shirt damp. She moved her hand from your injury to putting two fingers on your forehead.

The absence of El’s hand showed your stomach had completely healed. Hopper, at the sight of this, let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding.

El’s hand started shaking, and it stopped as your eyes flew open.

“Fuck.” You mumbled, your wild eyes looking around at everyone. You reached your hands out, silently asking someone to help you sit up a little. Dustin and Lucas rushed forward, helping you lean up against a nearby wall. 

Your body shook with sobs. El sat down next to you and silently rested her head on your shoulder. You took your hand in hers. You looked down at her, smiling through the tears coursing down your cheeks. “Thank you, Eleven.”

“Son of a bitch, I know who you are!“

“Dustin, language.” Joyce mumbled, making everyone laugh through their blurred eyes.

“Sorry! It’s… it’s just… I didn’t know there were more.”

“Of course there are. She’s number eleven, you dumbass. That means there’s at least ten more.” Mike said, hitting Dustin upside his head. 

Hopper and El helped you to your feet. “I’ll take her home with me so El can watch over her. I’m sure she’ll be happy to have her sister back.” He looked to Eleven, who smiled in agreement. 

Joyce smiled and nodded. “I think that’s a great idea, Jim.” 

Hopper huffed and nodded, and he and Eleven helped walk you down the hall, towards the exit. 

You looked down at your wrist at the small “9” imprinted into your skin. You were scared beyond your wits, but insanely excited to see real sunlight for the first time. You were going to be a normal seventeen year-old.

Since you had left the lab, you been living with Hopper and Eleven. He had a nice home, a little cabin deep in the woods. You had agreed with both of them that until you all knew it was safe, you and El were not to leave the house without Hopper. 

Which meant you almost never left the house.

From one prison to another. 

You and El shared a room, but she soon grew restless. Soon enough, she was requesting your help every night to check up on Mike and his friends to see how they were doing. Now, you didn’t know these kids. They had only seen you once, when you were being rescued from Hawkins Lab, and since then Hopper had disallowed any contact with them. 

When El ran away, and Hopper had to leave to help Ms. Byers and her son again, you wanted nothing more than to leave too. You had the chance, too! No one was home, and you could set out to have your own adventure, and come back before Hopper even knew. 

Unfortunately, Hopper had told you the four words you wished he hadn’t. 

“Don’t leave the cabin.” 

So you couldn’t. 

See, Eleven was tortured into having telekinetic powers. You had heard whispers through the lab of another kid being “conditioned” into being able to create illusions in the eyes of others. Your brain was altered to obey every command it heard. Yup, you were a regular ole Ella Enchanted. 

So you didn’t leave the cabin. Yup, you were stuck there, bored out of your mind. You cleaned up the glass that had gotten everywhere from El’s little outburst. You rearranged all the furniture. The tv was broken, so you couldn’t even watch the news… you were cut off, isolated once again.

And then, Hopper came back. They tried to act as though they had never left. Hopper fixed the television, repaired the windows, and for Christmas, he adopted the two of you. Turns out, Eleven found out who you two really were, outside of the lab. Her name was Jane, and yours (Y/N). 

She still went by El though.

You helped her get ready for the Snow Ball, which you begged Hopper to let you go to, until you found out it was for middle schoolers. You asked him what middle school was, and he explained the American public school system. 

You hated it.

He also told you you’d have to jump in, head-first into your senior year of high school. You didn’t understand why, you had an education back at the Lab, but Hopper insisted. He forged school records, showing fake grades for fake courses so you could still graduate with everyone else. He wanted you to live like a normal seventeen year-old, even if it was just for one year. 

Which meant you needed to enjoy your summer before high school.

Season after season, the Hermits had been tormented relentlessly by hollows, or horrible, invisible monsters created by Evil X. They were a result of an experiment of unknown intent, and now they steal peculiar Hermit’s souls, and somehow manage to creep their way into every new season.

Once they acquire enough of these souls, they can ascend into wights. These wights take the form of beloved Hermits, making them far more dangerous. The only physical difference is that wights bear entirely white eyes that seem to glow in the dark.

Now, Season 6. It’d been relatively peaceful. It was the longest time the Hermits had been hollow-free, and newer technology that came with every Update had made the future seem much brighter. The possibility of never having to leave their homes behind again is closer to becoming a reality than ever. Maybe Evil X has finally given up. Old Hermits have even joined along the way! However, what the others don’t know is that the return of these presumed-dead Hermits opens a whole new realm of disaster beyond either of them’s control, and perhaps a tear into the fine fabric that keeps Season 6 safe.

hey hi howdy so i made a blog for anyone whos interested in this au lol this is basically where i just drop anything i write about or draw w this au haha. please note that this au has semi-permadeath (nobody will die forever or anythin but sometimes people just don’t respawn if that makes any sense??) and not a whole lot of angst but its there. i’ll try and have this deviate a bit from the og books bc some of its either problematic, confusing, or doesnt fit with what i have planned.  in fact, heres a small list of things ive changed for reference (and in case u get the books and go “wtf quee this isnt canon”): ymbrynes can be men bc admins if a hermit spends a lot of time around another hermit, they’ll pick up a bit of one anothers abilities. not enough to be useful for anything but hey its there ymbrynes are leaders not caretakers wights and hollows travel though underground nether portals and tfc usually has to break any unfinished ones he finds while caving rip seasons in hc = loops in mphfpc

anyways as a refresher heres a list of peculiarities the hermits have, alphabetically (tumblr’s a bitch and wont let me put this under a cut for whatever reason so i’ll just tag as long post):

Bdubs: it is a mystery Biffa: He’s an admin so he’s an ymbryne! Basically hes a bird guy (he can become a crowned eagle) who’s sorta the decision maker of the server with x and joe. in this au ymbrynes aren’t caretakers (bc thats problematic, in my humble opinion) and are leaders sorta? anyways moving on oh yeah he kinda went poof one day n nobody knows where he is Cleo: Zombie, but powered by redstone. Cub: Vex magic Doc: He can reanimate the dead. It’s incredibly draining, but hey its there Evil X: An ex-ymbryne. He created the hollows, but not for the reason you, or the other hermits, think. He retains the ymbryne power of becoming a bird, in this case, a crow. another thing he is, is redeemable. False: basically she’s almost impossible to beat in battle its kinda scary but its also really cool. Grian: hes got birdie wings also hes very light which allows him to fly without using rockets and its kinda like a perpetual slow falling potion. somehow he still manages to splat on the ground lol Impulse: manipulates shadows n darkness. he makes lil shadow puppets for tango n zed bc team zit’s friendship is so fucking cute Iskall: Manipulates slime iskallium. he and jevin claim their abilities are different. He’s also noticed that the area around him gets just a little chillier. Jevin: is being literally made out of slime not peculiar enough for you (he can manipulate slimes) Joe: Ymbryne, again! He’s a bluebird. Also he’s got enhanced synesthesia and it’s pretty rad. Keralis: it is a mystery Mumbo: Living lever. He can activate redstone simply by touching it. He has to think for it to work though.  Python: flowers kinda grow at his feet. because of this hes the master of poison. he uses lilies of the valley in tea to poison enemies. he was once accused of making biffa disappear because of this. Ren: he speaks fluently to animals. haha furry ily Scar: Vex magic... 2! After all the time spent at Area 77 with Doc, he’s also gotten a bit popular with the undead. Stress: Ice magic for the ice queen! Tango: Fire manipulation. He’s always very warm. TFC: He doesn’t seem too special until you look closely at his eyes. One of them is completely white. When X first met him, he just thought he was blind in that eye, until the man saved X’s butt from a wight in Season 5. That is how the server found out their “normal” is part wight. Wels: Metallokinesis! Don’t make him angry. He’ll drop an anvil on you. Xisuma: Yet another ymbryne, and the last one I have to talk about. He’s a snowy owl. Zedaph: He’s kinda what happens if you stay in the End for too long. He’s got a very potent dragon’s breath attack at his fingertips and he has natural dragon wings/horns. also pointy teef and end crystals give him regen. Admittedly this is my headcanon for him already (except the end crystal part), but shhh..

I’m here to show tumblr that wiki people can play. 

I’ve mended ties with Ruben and got some juicy details on Alex… this shall be a very very fun merge :) Look out Pines :O

Moving forward into the merge, my plan is to first and foremost mend ties with Dom. How do I do this? It will be difficult… really difficult, and I’ll need Ruben to be my middle-man. The first step in that plan was put in motion tonight, with me talking to Ruben and trying to re-establish some level of trust. It is clear as day that he still doesn’t trust me, but that’s a given… I need to vote his way at a tribal to truly gain his trust. If I can get Dom off my back, I just want to fade into obscurity for two to three votes come merge… allow Pines to duke it out with Dom as I ferry between the two sides. During this period, my focus will be on getting closer to Ruben and Kendall. If Dom stills targets me, I’ll look to rally the Shallow Alliance against Alexis or Dom, and begin to talk to Robin. I’m pretty sure I could get Ashley and (hopefully) Sarah in on an Alexis or Dom vote. Jaiden, from what I have heard, appears to be an easy vote later down the line so I have no issue with him staying in the game. I can depend on him to always be crazy… I don’t fear people like him whatsoever. The people I fear are those I cannot get a solid read on, and that’s why Dom is such a fearsome adversary.

So my goal going into the challenge was to allow the reward to act as a reason to talk to other players that I haven't talked to all that much... and that worked out pretty well! Ashley and I have been "working together" for reward... mainly just her giving me reward answers and then me giving her one in return because I was under the impression we would tie for first if I gave her all my answers. Then comes along Ruben, who has 20+ reward items... so I give him my entire list without Ashley knowing, in an attempt to garner a little bit of trust and hope he shares reward with me :) Turns out I had three items he didn't have, so yay, I kinda helped!  Ruben is now bound to win reward over at the least Ash, Liam, and I... immunity will be far tighter, but honestly doesn't matter all that much so early into merge. The Nu-Nu-Parvati tribe sans-Ruben should be able to run the table with Sarah and Ashley's help for a bit of the merge.  That being said, I've talked quite a bit with Ruben and a fair bit with Robin. I love them both... more Robin than Ruben, though :P Robin seems fun but a bit harder to talk to, while Rubin seems to be always thinking. My goal in this merge is to have openings with most people for when it comes time to take a stab at Sarah and Pines.  Oh, I almost forgot! I've been talking a fair bit to Jaiden as well. He's a talkative guy... you can really tell he is trying super hard to keep the conversation going and he feels slightly alienated (or at least tries to portray himself as so). He's a person I can depend on to go against Jordan, and Jordan will always go against him before he takes a shot at me.  I am getting ready, talking to people so nobody has a reason to openly gun for me in the near future. Jordan, like me, has been talking to the people that the Shallow Alliance have no interest in talking to (like Rubin, Robin, Jaiden, etc...), but he is coming off as fake to those folk, which plays into my favor 

I just wanna say that I love the hosting crew this season. As a host myself, I know how frustrating it can be to have certain... things occur. So I am honestly sorry that you guys are dealing with this. I personally love this season and can't wait to see what happens <3 

This tribe has been really interesting. The dynamics were a little hectic at first but things settled down. We have majority at the moment and it's fantastic. I think I have a solid path to make it far unless the majority decides to turn on itself, but there are indeed bigger fish to fry.

So, with the merge comes the Jury, and I definitely have to see how to handle this Jury. My main issue in my entire life has been a social game in Survivor. I ignore people sometimes, and I'm just generally bad at keeping up conversations. Gavin isn't. I am fully aware that going into a FTC with Gavin will be very difficult. And so I have to prepare myself to try and get people to sway more towards my side. That means conversating with Ashley on a daily basis, or Lexi L, etc. Just because they aren't in my end game does not mean I don't talk with them, and that's something I need to make sure I do.

Well... Lexi just offered me nudes in exchange for safety. I was lonely enough to consider it but then I remembered that I don't want to get arrested for child pornography. It's bad enough with the necrophiliac charges... Where was I going with this? Oh right merge! We merged! I CAN BEAT MY PLACEMENT FUCKING FINALLY!!!!!! I JUST NEED TO MAKE SURE THAT I DON'T FUCK UP! Also I'm trying this new thing called "Socializing" I'm not sure how I'm doing because my austic ass can't read people for shit. But Lexi offered to be my best friend and give me nudes so I'm probably off to a good start. I get along well with my alliance members, I just need to extend my reach to others. This season has been heavily divided by newbs versus returnees and I feel that anyone who can cross the aisle would have a chance at winning. I know I'm on good terms with Robin and I get along well enough with Jaiden. I'm not sure how I'm doing with Lexi and Ruben. Sure they are being nice to me and they wanted to name the merge tribe Bayi Mati but they could just be frenching my ass hole. I try really hard to get people but I don't think I will ever know how to. Still operation "Don't-Be-A-Dick" is a go!

It's just an assumption as of now but I don't think the returnees want to get rid of Jaiden since he's a returnee. Ruben & Lexi are probably winning the challenges I think, so that leaves Robin and I and from the two of us, it's almost a no-brainer, who would want to get rid of Robin, she's so nice and I can assume that a lot of people love her so I'll be following Dom out of the game most likely. Dustata really was doomed after those initial tribals woo! I'll try my best but it's super blah when no one wants to do anything fun. I don't blame them since returnees have majority, it's easier just to pick half of the newbies off and use us as numbers but it makes for such a bland game.

Ruben not taking me to the cave, REALLY REALLY cute! I'm such a spiteful person so we'll see where that leads. :) Did I want to go? No, but it would have been smart to ask first! I didn't want to go because being too close to the newbies is a huge target and as of right now, I believe I'm close with the returnee villains or at least Jaiden and possibly Jordan but Sarah is allergic to replying back to me. Sarah is also is alienating all her potential jury votes by antagonizing the minority constantly which makes me laugh, not going to lie! Imagine having a huge train wreck of a game like that; I love good TV! If Liam is really dense to the point where he believes his best chance to make it further is to stick with the returnees then we might as well write the metaphorical check to Kendall or Jordan but let's be honest, he doesn't care about the game and he's just here to screw us (the minority) over by staying. I'll be talking to Jordan later and sharing my pitch which is to use me as a vote to take out the large group of returnee heroes or they would have the numbers to take out the returnee villains which is essentially just Jordan and Sarah at this point because Sarah already antagonized Jaiden to the point where he doesn't want to work with her. I think Jordan's best shot at forming something with us would be through me but I have no clue as to how much he has talked to the others. I believe that Ruben or Lexi L might be leaving this time around since they have rubbed the majority the wrong way as of the #cheatinggate scandal. To ensure the newbies do not have numbers, they will not align with us until a few of us have gone so that's the downside. I have the fear that they may try and target someone else so we don't see it coming so that's a little terrifying but I'll try and speak with everyone to see which road I should head down.
