just discovered so many great foreign sodas in the comments and tags so y'all about to get a mini lesson in Portuguese sodas because #TugaPride:
Brisa Maracujá - the best, and I mean, BEST soda made in Portugal (from Madeira island), it's made with real maracujá/passion fruit juice (my fav flavor in anything 🤤) and it's lightly carbonated (good if you're like me and don't love carbonated drinks in general). if you're a soda fan and happen to visit this beautiful piece of land please try it (you'll find it in the mainland too, not just Madeira) and then thank yourself for the best (or worst) decision you ever made
Sumol - one of the oldest sodas in Portugal (70th birthday this year yo!), it's got all your usual soda flavours like orange, pineapple, passion fruit (the yummiest one) and apple too I think (this last one is rare in stores tho), BUT in 2021 they made a new flavour with oranges from Algarve (they are 👌) and the rest is history, I love love love this flavor even tho Sumol is more carbonated than Brisa and I prefer no bubbles in my soda/juices
Água das Pedras - I had to mention this one, Água das Pedras (Water of Stones, if you translate literally) is a sparkling natural mineral water, meaning the water already comes carbonated from its source, which is extremely rare in sparkling waters. it has a slightly salty flavour (it's very subtle), which is kind of fun considering the water comes from the Pedras Salgadas (Salty Stones) valley... coincidence? maybe, who knows! anywho, i'm not a sparkling water person at all (if TV static had a taste it would be sparkling water) so I only had this like 2 or 3 times in my life, but it has a cult following and if you ask for sparkling water in Portugal chances are you'll get a bottle of this like 90% of the time
nobody asked but since i'm here... as for international sodas, I love me an ice cold glass of lemon Lipton Iced Tea just like beer people love to crack open a cold one after a hard day's work (I will drink the peach and mango flavors too with no hesitation, I often don't even correct the waiter if they bring me the wrong flavour) and some Sprite/7up mixed with black currant syrup and a lemon slice to cut the sweetness. Jarritos from Mexico are bomb too, love the mango and grapefruit flavor, and finally a shoutout to Guaraná Antártica from my Brazilian homies, shit's delish (even if a bit too sweet for my taste)
