literary wolfstar classics (rec list part 1, pre-2010)
okurr so. As someone who is officially old & read/wrote wolfstar as a teenager & then totally abandoned fanfic, etc., in like 2009 or something & then inexplicably returned a few months ago (actually, no, I can absolutely explain my return and it's Hanya Yanagihara's fault but not at all in the way you're thinking - maybe material for a weird rant post one day?) - ANYWAY. I'm secretly a horrible cunt with annoyingly picky taste (sry I try so hard to be nice I swear) and have spent way too much time at this point refinding my old fave wolfstar fics/discovering new stories that meet my obnoxiously high standards SO. SO, the logical next step seemed to be to share these beautiful stories with the world instead of hoarding them all on my laptop or whatever.
Point being, here is part 1 of a rec list which I originally posted to reddit (mostly because getting a reddit seemed like less work/commitment than getting a tumblr but HERE I AM now on TUMBLR having fully succumbed to my fannish impulses so, whoops) which I am calling "literary wolfstar recs." Everything below is just copied/pasted from my reddit post, & soon I'll post my part 2 ("modern classics" - i.e. the post-2010 wolfstar stories I've found/loved so far).
---
Okay y'all. I threatened to do it and now I am doing it. This here is a rec list of "literary" wolfstar classics (all were originally written/posted pre-2010, many were written 2005 or earlier). By "literary" I mostly just mean heartbreakingly gorgeous with, like, decent grammar to boot. Sort of a rec list for snobbish lit-crit cunts like me (& probably Remus) and especially for any of you sweet children who weren't lurking the internet when a lot of these were being written/posted and may have missed some or all of these utterly seminal wolfstar texts :). Since returning to fic a few months ago after, like, a trillion years away, I've also discovered a few "new" (i.e. post-2010 lol) authors with some breathtakingly lovely and "literary" stories, and I'll try to get around to eventually compiling those into a similar list at a later date when I've got more free time. Probably won't be for a while yet.
So, without further ado/in no particular order - literary wolfstar classics:
"redeeming time" by minx.
A true classic. Written well before HBP (and maybe even before OOTP? - I'm not sure). A post-prank narrative told entirely from James's perspective (so it's also, of course, James/Lily, although wolfstar is the main storyline) and spanning Nov. 1976 - Nov. 1977. Minx's clean, straightforward prose works so perfectly for this story; it's, like, the quintessential growing-up narrative (but with gay wizards). This, this will always be canon to me. An all-time fave.
"fingerholds" by centaurea.
As far as I know, this is the author's only wolfstar fic, and omfg it is breathtakingly gorgeous. Non-linear narrative that shifts between First War & Lost Years. It tells the story of Remus and Sirius coming together after Hogwarts and then falling apart under the terror/suspicion of war. Again, the writing is fucking beautiful - imagistic, atmospheric, rife with metaphor. This might possibly be my favorite fanfic ever, although I really don't know because that's such a tough call. But anyway, this story will make you hurt.
"vector," "gasp," & "wane" by @rageprufrock.
Pru has written a number of wolfstar classics, so you can't go wrong with anything by her, but I picked these three because they strike me as the most "literary" (i.e. achingly gorgeous) of the lot. "Vector" is a lovely reflective piece in which Sirius, sidetracked by various memories in the midst of Christmas shopping, realizes he's in love with Remus; "Gasp" is basically just a beautiful, atmospheric sex scene (complete with a charming and pitch-perfect Confession of Feelings); "Wane" is a dreamy and poetic "fairytale for Remus," spanning his early childhood up through (and slightly beyond) Sirius's death in OOTP. I adore all of them. Her lighter/funnier fics (like "Seven Things") are also great so check those out, too.
"the times" by @imochan.
Absolutely everything imochan creates is gorgeous and she's written so many wolfstar classics. But I picked "The Times" for this list because the joy, the joy in this story is just so wonderful and palpable. It's a non-magic AU set in 1930s Ireland; Sirius is a paperboy and Remus works at the news office. This story is so beautifully written and unquestionably ranks among my all-time faves. A few other imochan classics I adore include "Liars Leaving My House," "Five Ways to Open Your Arms," & "Oh, Night, and Divine (The Selfish Wish Remix)." But really, anything by her is pretty much guaranteed to be gorgeous and wonderful.
"that the science of cartography is limited" by rave/dorkorific.
Another true classic. Authored by one-half of the Shoebox Project team. Written pre-HBP, shifts back-and-forth in time between MWPP/post-Hogwarts days & post-OOTP/Remus in the aftermath of the veil, with the Marauders' Map and the boys' attempts to trace Hogwarts' ever-shifting walls with language becoming a sort of broad metaphor for the utterly tangible and seemingly solid yet eternally shifting, breathy, unstable, always-already crumbling foundations of human relationships - the "built-in" loss of relational existence. I mean, just beautiful.I cannot even. Another story that will hurt you.
"the love song of sirius black" by kaydeefalls.
Based on Eliot's "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock" and another true wolfstar classic. A poetic imagining of Sirius's fall through the veil as a sort of dreamy exploration of various major fork-roads in his life, with each section of the story depicting a diverging (i.e. non-canon) path from Sirius's reality. And the final dream scene - ohmyfuckinggod. You will cry. Unless your heart is, like, stone, but maybe even then. I'm so sorry because I'm just now realizing I should have probably called this rec list "wolfstar for masochists" or something like that because so many of these stories are just brutal. As a side note, kaydeefalls also has a number of other lovely fics worth checking out, such as "Quiet" and "Twas Brillig, and the Slithy Toves."
"in love" by minnow.
I adore minnow! She has written so many charming, clever, sweet (& often hilarious) wolfstar stories, and she has this way of stepping a bit outside of the characters and creating a fly-on-the-wall sort of vibe that is just so wry and funny, but also at times becomes ridiculously poignant. I know I already used this word but her prose is just charming, idk what else to even say. I picked "In Love" for this list because it is so fucking sweet, in the best way possible, and fairly indicative of her style generally, and also, just - ugh. How can this story not make you happy. The title is self-explanatory. Other fics by Minnow that I especially love include "The Cure" and "What We Did In The Holidays" (these two are just utterly hilarious).
"beat the devil" & "the love there that's sleeping" by musesfool/victoria_p.
Musesfool has written so many wolfstar classics that I cannot possibly account them all here and I'm pretty sure I haven't even read most of them. She is, like, prolific, and you likely can't go wrong with anything by her. But anyhow, I picked these two because they are, in different ways, so particularly gorgeous. "Beat the Devil" is a First War/Sirius pining/hook-up fic with just, such great atmosphere; the story is just thick with atmosphere. And "The Love There That's Sleeping" is a MWPP-era, Beatles-infused, cut-it-with-a-knife-sexual-tension sort of thing that is also, just, so lovely.
"the shortest distance between two people" by riko.
A year-by-year MWPP era fic (each section occurring during the corresponding Hogwarts year) that is just so lovely and charming and often so funny but with so much freaking hurt, too. And these utterly perfect characterizations to boot. This story is just good, I mean, really what else can I say.
"written by hand" & "the moon's significant tremble" by setissma.
I think setissma has written a lot of wolfstar (and some of it may even be hard to find now?) but I picked these two because they are just so lovely. "Written by Hand" features this beautiful premise where Remus has to spend a summer in Romania with no way of communicating with his friends/loved ones, and so with their consent he charms the walls in his summer flat to display everything they write down (letters, grocery lists, all of it). "The Moon's Significant Tremble" is a lovely non-magic AU wherein Sirius is posh and Remus is a schoolteacher and they meet on a train when Remus may or may not be attempting to steal Sirius's watch.
"a peripheral vision" by carmine_ink.
Another heartbreakingly lovely AU set in the 1890s, Cambridge, wherein Remus and Sirius share the misfortune of falling in love in a time/place where that sort of thing is Quite Illegal Indeed, and Remus's lycanthropy is beautifully translated into epilepsy.
"the drought story" by librae.
Librae's style is just so pretty - everything she writes is so atmospheric and poetic and richly imagistic. "Drought Story" takes place the summer between sixth and seventh year; Remus's owl dies and Sirius pays him a visit for the funeral rites. I don't even know how else to describe this story, other than - just lovely.
---
AND here are some "honorable mentions" aka more lovely/charming/very well-written wolfstar classics that I just don't have the time/energy to type up full summaries for rn. But these are also all very, very good!
"a few mornings in january" by omgsubtext - in which Remus maybe sort of forgets to tell Sirius he's moved in with him, actually.
"ever after" by busaikko - in which Remus is a geeky astrophysicist & Sirius a gay Scheherazade.
"delta" by fahye - in which every single sentence is so poetically crafted.
"it's not the years, honey, it's the mileage" by thistlerose - in which Remus turns thirty-five and Sirius brings him stolen library books.
"cooler than frogs" by penknife - in which Sirius has a secret, and lycanthropy is very cool.
"the curious incident of the dog in the nighttime" by penknife - in which Sirius is Harry's brooding, Rochester-esque guardian, and Remus Harry's private tutor.
"a flame in two cupped hands" by such_heights - in which Sirius adorably pines.
"for someone came and kissed me there" by such_heights - in which Remus gives Sirius a scandal for Christmas.
"as red as hearts and autumn" by rosemaryandrue - in which Remus has a sexual encounter in front of mermaids under Brighton Pier.
"fire shadows" by mysecretashes - in which Remus, Sirius, and Peter spend the summer before seventh year at James's.
"being an historical record . . ." by moonpants - in which Remus is ambushed by James during truth-or-dare.
"earl grey" by mariinarusalka - in which Remus drinks tea.
"heat the winter floods" by daphnaea - in which R & S share a flat, and Remus keeps piles.
---
AND, finally, just for fun, this classic essay re: the canonical evidence for wolfstar, because I love close-reading and such nerdy shit as that: "the case for r / s" by elwing_alcyone.
<3<3<3
---
oh and p.s. many thanks to @broomsticks for being so sweet & acclimating me to the wild world of tumblr!!

So... It's the person from the hypothetical thing about the Balor. Here's the whole thing, as it is.
See, I'd just got done with a job along with my Lance: Things were great, I wound up seeing what happens when a Balor literally pulls itself back together from a front-row seat (spoiler alert: It was fucking awesome), and I wound up getting enough cash to do some... Acquisitions.
So! I decided to stop by a black-market scrapyard I knew about: Odd spot ran by an unshackled NHP everyone calls "Mamaw": She heard the term on an out-of-the-way planet, liked it, and decided to use it as an alias. Lotta people dump mechs that are too junked-out, expensive, or time-consuming to repair there: Wear-and-tear from a death-world, too much damage from a job gone horribly wrong, used for something horrible by a rich ass-hat... You name it, Mamaw's got it lying around there for resale and trade.
It's like a Flea Market for mech parts!
... And also maybe ship parts butlet'snottalkabouthat-
ANYWAYS. Stopped by to say "Hi!", ask around about any good deals, and she'd told me that she had pretty much just gotten in a Blackbeard from some salvage crews. I was interested, so she guided me to it.
When I tell you this mech was fucked, I mean it was Capital-F FUCKED. Missing a leg and both arms, any armor was molten slag, wiring was shredded, the works. According to Mamaw, somebody had let their Sekhmet-Class off the hook, ejected, and just ran away. Left 'em behind to fight while they fled for the hills.
The mech got damaged enough that the Sekhmet-Class couldn't move an inch more, and after the battle the Salvage teams moved in to do their job. So, imagine their surprise when the wreck they go to grab starts swearing the air blue at them. Just... Absolutely laying into them. Insults that I could not repeat in polite company, according to Mamaw. They tossed the whole mech off to her, she got the Sekhmet outta there with some conversation and offers of therapy, and everybody turned out pretty alright. She's apparently a very good underground fighter now.
Where was I? Ah, right! The Balor eating the Blackbeard.
So! I'm sitting there haggling the price with Mamaw, and she's making sure to get a good list of what I want off of the BB. Mid-conversation, she trails off while looking over my shoulder after we've finally got the price figured up and paid. I turn around, and my Balor's just... Eating the Blackbeard.
Greywash fully in effect, swarming the wreckage: It was like watching a swarm of locusts pull apart a 3-D puzzle. They'd find the weld-seams and bolts, pull 'em apart like a damn surgeon, pulled the whole chunks into the swarm, and then go back for seconds and thirds.
Weirdest part was, the Balor seemed almost... Gentle, as it worked. Held the parts it was pulling in almost reverently, and when the Blackbeard was down to just the framework and wiring, it picked it up and... hugged it. Held it, like a close friend instead of a meal.
And as it ate, it just got... Bigger. Went from standing with plenty of room in the warehouse we were sifting through to scraping the ceiling. And then...
VRRP. No more Blackbeard.
I turned back around to Mamaw, and she seemed pensive about the whole thing for a moment or two before she started smiling.
"A good eating young-'un, there. You take good care of them, you hear me?"
Well. I couldn't help but agree.
So, yeah: That's how my Balor hypothetically ate a Blackbeard. Now if you'll excuse me, I gotta go see somebody with a hypothetical Goblin to work on some hypothetical VPN-work. TTFN!
Ok so I’ve got corporate distracted for a bit so I can post this because letting this be my sole spoils of war here would be unfair to everyone on the Omninet
Also I’m gonna kick this down the road back to @horus-unofficial to please explain to me what’s going on with that Balor
That kinda sounds like it’s alive
Anyways back to standard corpro-posting love you guys

Day Ninety-nine
It's a very grey start to today, with a light cloud cover coating the skies.
Up out of the bridleway spot and back onto the road near Constantine, it's straight into the hills as the road leads up into Cornwall's high surroundings as I continue my heading east.
It's some rolling hills to tackle as I slog along the road through some busy morning traffic, until finally riding in to the edges of Falmouth.
The busy port town is full of climbs as I track around and make my way down to the harbourside, where I get a beautiful view across Carrick Roads whilst waiting for the ferry.
After a brief stint afloat and savouring the waves, I put in across the water at the beautiful town of St Mawes.
Heading up past the castle, with some lovely views back across the water, it's up the steep hills once more to start slogging along the road again.
The rising sun is doing its best to burn off the light cloud cover of the morning, and the heat is rising once more as I get to rejoin NCN Route 3 for its stint along the coastline here.
Dropping down past Carne Beach, the route begins a heavy section of steep climbs and drops as it tours around the beautiful coastal area, zig zagging round to take in the many bays and watersides as it makes its way around the cliffsides.
Around and past the steep drops through Portmellon and Mevagissey, the route finally heads off the roads for a long hard climb over the lovely gardens of Heligan, before crossing the road and heading on to St Austell River.
It's a wonderful stretch of off-traffic riding herr as Route 3 follows up the river's course, through some beautiful forested areas, until heading in to St Austell at the heaving A390.
With Route 3 continuing northwards, I head off the cycle route and in to town for a resupply stop and break, before carrying on around the very busy roads to head on towards Par.
Whilst riding along the trails here, the bike lurches to a very sudden stop. A glance down has my heart in my mouth as a rather large branch has managed to find its way into the spokes of my rear wheel, catching the struts of my mudguard, and wrenching everything round. The mudguard has folded near double on itself and is sticking out towards my knee, and the branch is firmly wedged in amongst the wheel.
I stop to assess the damage as this could be pretty disastrous. After managing to extricate the offending piece of wood, I get the mudguard to unfold and slot back into its place without much harm done, and a check of the wheel finds that it's not even much out of true.
What on earth is with this bike?! An absolute tank! I can barely believe that no serious damage has been caused from this incident, but everything seems to be rolling ok, so I guess that means on with the show!
Round to Par and through it's looping one-way system, it's up another big sharp hill to head over to Fowey, with a steep descent through some narrow paths leading to some steps down to my second ferry of the day.
After a short wait and chat with some other tourists waiting, it's aboard the small ferry for a short cruise over the River Fowey to land at the working harbour at Polruan.
With the day wearing on, the heat and work haven't ceased yet, as from the waterside the road leads up and up a long and steep hill to get through and out of the pretty seaside village.
Finally up onto the coastal moorlands, I think it's been another long and tough day's work, so it's time for me to get scouting for a spot to lay my head. Tomorrow should hopefully have me pushing on and out of Cornwall's challenging hills.
TTFN!

siri play somebody that i used to know... 'cause it's been a week! we're not sure whether to blame the hotter days or cancer season or both for the rising rate of break ups but it's looking bad. timothée chalamet pulled the plug on what appeared to be a budding romance with fellow actor jack wolfe and maggie lindemann spent 3 minutes (with breaks) packing the world's smallest box of belongings. we get the feeling they won't be the only ones. speaking of timothée chalamet, apparently he and dua lipa have been talking privately. their back and forth banter has raised some eyebrows; including ours. is this some friendly fun or is there more to this than meets the eye? we think there could be a little history there!

I don't really play MtG, but the lore and card art has always intrigued me. It's like I have become fond of saying since I heard the phrase Adventure Time:
I've a few questions in mind:
The Myr appear to be bird-like considering the head shape, but also draw from ants in their name and "social structure"... Any thoughts on what their name would be if they appeared more like rodents or another social species such as canines?
The Gremlins in Kaladesh(?) have a resemblance to 6-limbed aardvarks, caustic saliva and feed on Ether IIRC. Is Ether a colorless resource separate from Mana or a transmuted form of Mana for artifacts?
Couldn't said Gremlins be a bit cuter?
Any opinions on the kinda grody appearance of the Compleated Weatherlight? Consider the diversification of Phyrexians, how do you think one faction's Compleated form would differ from the others?
That's all for the time being. If this is too long just let me know... Thanks for your time & TTFN.
1. I’m the worst at coming up with fantasy names! You can maybe just see “Myr” from Myomorpha, a big rodent suborder, but yeah, the name is really from ants by way of the Myrmidons, Achilles’s troops in the Iliad. Trying to think of something if my own, I came up with “muroid”, which is just directly ripping off Myomorpha superfamily Muroidea.
2. Yep, that’s Kaladesh you’re thinking of. IIRC aether is just the form mana takes on that plane. All colors can draw on it, and there are colorless uses too.
3. I think they’re plenty cute! They’re like nude cats (binguses/bingi). Also reminiscent of Dragon Age nugs. But I suppose the obvious answers are give them some hair or have them drool less.
4. That hit me hard as an older player who remembers old Weatherlight story. I suppose it’s supposed to look grody. On New Phyrexia, at least, there are distinctive looks for the five colors/praetors, so yeah, I’d expect a Weatherlight compleated by forces other than Sheoldred’s would look different.

DnD campaign misadventures
I rescued this thread from my non-defunct twttr detailing my last campaign in DnD, because it was probably the best things I ever posted on there. So now it’s going on here.
Tonight in DnD, my character crit failed a stealth check and fell down the stairs, spilling ball bearings everywhere. #smooth
However, the adrenaline rush resulted in a series of 20s in combat. #stabby
2. Last night in DnD adventures, we smashed a frozen half-man half-bull creature that bequeathed us a key from its remains.
Me: looks like it's a musical one.
Me: it was a key in A minor-taur
@abbynormal0ne: I will KILL you
3. Tonight in DnD adventures, after killing a couple of piscine-type jailers, we found a scared human in a cell. To put them at ease, @abbynormal0ne put her hand in a skull like a puppet and went "HELLO! DON'T BE AFRAID! WE'RE NICE PEOPLE!"
Surprisingly they were not reassured.
4. Tonight in DnD adventures, we stab a rapier into this guy that makes a gurgling sound akin to the apex of the bit in a certain song by The Trashmen.
"Looks like.. blood.. is the word."
@abbynormal0ne: "Just one more time I stg."
5. Tonight in DnD, @abbynormal0ne summons a mammoth-type creature and I jump on its back while we're murdering the sahuagin sea creatures. It crit fails while trying to skewer one of them, breaking its spiky, natural weapon.
"I guess he wasn't.. up to the tusk."
6. Last night in DnD, the last sahuagin, bloodied & battered mutters "mercy". I ponder this, before firing a crossbow bolt through the back of his throat. "Looks like no mer-sea for this chap."
@abbynormal0ne, exhausted, wiping fish flesh from her face "I think he wanted mercy from your prattle."
7. After losing half of my health to a lightning strike from this dragon, I jumped on the back of the scaly bastard and shanked them.
"Now who's doing shocking behaviour."
We'll be having dragon bbq for weeks.
8. Tonight in DnD! We were in an asylum, trying to get info from a surly orderly. She was not forthcoming. And even less so when I asked "is there like a merch shop where I can get one of those natty white jumpers?"
9. Tonight in DnD! I have to disguise myself bc I've gone back to a place I'm wanted. And not in the good way. @abbynormal0ne suggests a costume. I acquire a hat of disguise.
DM: what do you look like now?
Me: This incarnation of Demis Roussos! Right down to the glitter boots!
10. The other night in DnD! @abbynormal0ne asked a shopkeep for a particular potion, seud in blue. Amazingly they had two of them. I took them and put in my footwear for safe-keeping.
"Don't step on my blue seud shoes." I warn her. She asks the shopkeep for a poison. I'm not sure if it's for me or for her.
11. Last night in DnD! We get asked by the big cheese of New Seaton if our party has a collective name...
MisinterPirates
One hour later and this is the best that we came up with jfc hahahaha
12. We decide to rescue some slaves from a sinking ship. We are attacked by a big fuck off shark that takes a decent chunk out of my torso. Ouch. "Can I just fey step back onto my boat?" I can.
"TTFN, you pointy-teethed dickhead!"
After one round of shooting at this chompy bastard. I finally find a use for my two-handed trident and full of gusto (the name of the wine) foolheartedly jump BACK into the water, stabbing the shark like a mad vaulter.
"This will surely fin-ish you off!"
It did not. Whoops.

Hi, I’m still alive, I swear.
A lot has happened since I last posted on this blog, and I’m not sure if I’m “back” per se, but I thought I’d at least check in, maybe look around for a minute or two. I can’t remember what all I have shared, so here’s just a quick summary of my life thus far.
I’ve been to a few shows since the start of the pandemic - Ghost with Mastodon and Spiritbox, and Lamb of God, Killswitch Engage, Baroness, and Suicide Silence being the two shows in particular I’ve attended. Generally, I’ve kept a low profile as I’m an agoraphobe and would like to not catch the literal plague of our times.
Which I did in fact catch. It sucked a lot. I was scared for a few days, but I managed to pull through it without needing to go to the hospital (it got pretty close though). After my grandfather dying from covid complications, getting it was kind of a terrifying situation for me given my own health problems.
We had also just adopted a third dog, a German shepherd mix of indeterminate origin that had been found on the street. We found out that she had been abused and abandoned by her prior owner, so now she’s our dog. She’s specifically MY dog, actually, and I’ve got my work cut out with her, as she is unfortunately overweight and I have to get her enough exercise to hopefully cut that weight down to a more healthy number.
Which became difficult during the two weeks I was sick, and I still have some lingering effects MONTHS later - for instance my breathing capacity, which was never great to begin with on account of life long asthma, has been cut down even further. I can barely walk at a brisk pace now without nearly keeling over.
After I recovered from covid in the sense that I was no longer testing positive, it felt like life was throwing nothing but curve balls my and my husband’s way. For reasons I cannot go into legally, my husband lost his job, and we were very uncertain what we would do. I’m at the tail end of my Master’s degree and cannot leave Florida until I’ve got my diploma, considering I LITERALLY have 2 classes left.
After much debate, we decided that it was time to leave Florida anyway. We’ve been wanting to leave for a long time as neither of us have been happy here as life long Floridians, and it’s only getting harder for the people born and raised in this state to live here.
But, moving at this time means separating on a six month basis. It has not been easy. We drove to our new home state together to get a feel for it and get my husband settled into the house he’s renting, and then I flew back to Florida. I cried on the plane.
Currently, I’m working on finishing my degree still and trying to keep myself busy. I was alone with most of our animals (we have 3 dogs and 2 cats between us, one of which is currently with my husband) for recent holidays and it was genuinely miserable.
We’ll see if I’m here for a more permanent basis or if I’ll fuck off back to being on hiatus from Tumblr. Time will tell.
Also the new Septicflesh and Zeal & Ardor albums fuck hard and I love them a lot. Y’all should give them a listen if you have not.

ok so its been a minute since i made an entry. i knew i would fall off haha. okay so what's happened? well my birthday was great! i was worried it would suck cause i didn't get any sleep that night but nathan <3 let me sleep in as long as i wanted and then he took me camping by the lake. had a nice cold swim and warmed up by the fire it was really nice. i usually camp solo but i liked having him along this time i might take him with me more often haha. so one thing i'm troubled by is that my medication seems to have stopped working. i'm going to my doctor next week to see what we can do about it but i keep having paranoid thoughts and these nightmares just horrible nightmares and sleep paralysis i'm just so afraid of going to sleep especially at night. anyways one thing i'm happy about is halloween coming up haha we're throwing a party and all our friends are gonna be here and we're gonna play games and watch scary movies it'll be the best. so I guess thats what's going on with me right now.... dont have much more to sayyyy sooo ttfn!

TRIGGER WARNING!! ⚠️ Beta Results
Beta Testing Day!!
O8/26/2024 So we had our test. When we got the call its official!! We're having a baby!!!!!
Beta Level 350
I have to continue all current meds until told otherwise. Our next appointment is Wednesday.
They prescribed me some prescription nausea meds as this nausea mess is making life so difficult for me.
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
08/28/2024 Our little Embie is growing 💗💕
Beta Level 1,074
Thyroid Level 0.47
Progesterone Level 56
Our next appointment is next Tuesday. The shots continue to be miserable. We both can't wait until Embie is nice and strong and they are no longer needed. Ive also realized that unless you order from a specialty pharmacy for your meds sharps containers are expensive and I only have 3 containers. So since I did what you're not supposed to do and put all the caps back on my syringes. I've moved the thick ones that are from my Love shots to a gallon Ziploc that I've doubled. This way I have more space for the remaining shots I need to do.
08/29/2024: I now laugh at the name morning sickness. How about all day nausea.
08/30/2024 I took the medicine last night to see if it made a difference with my nausea. And guess what.... It did NOT... Ugh. I think waking up nauseous is going to be my thing for a good while. I don't like these shots I just really really don't. I got my updated medicine calendar and at least I get to stop PIO before my birthday.
I did something to my right side and it hurts so much. It's like I pulled a muscle or popped a vein. Mm
8/31/2024 my side still hurts so much. I tried to stretch it as much as possible before leaving for work and that helped a bit. I had hubby give me the shots on my left side to try and give my right side more time to rest.
09/01/2024 today has been a bit better. It's my rest day so I've just been sleeping a lot and taking it easy. I've still been nauseous and emotional but I've come to just accept that this is how things will go. I cried because I wanted a cheeseburger at 930am and then I fell asleep for 2 hours while my husband made said cheeseburger I cried for. 🤦🏿♀️🤣
09/02/2024 ugh..... Tears and gagging, tears and gagging I'm so done with today.
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
09/03/2024
Beta Level: 8,941
Our little Embie continues to grow. We are now on to the next step which is the ultrasounds.

Day 14 - Vancouver Island to Vancouver
I might have given our campsite a bit of stick for its more shabby than chic appearance but in its defence all our stuff was still there when we woke up and no one had been murdered by bears or other guests during the night, so it couldn’t have been too bad! As we’d had our final sleep in the tents, it was time to give them a clean for the next users, now you may recall when we first got out the tent it was soaking wet, so we endeavoured to leave it a bit dryer than we found it, which I think we managed… just! After 2 weeks of nearly every type of weather going, I don’t think I’ll miss the tent life too much, but it did serve us well and kept us dry which is more than I can say for some of the other tents I’ve slept in!
After a continental breakfast, including some big muffins, we packed everything up, but with the bags in a semi-arranged order based on the drop off locations. We made our way to the ferry terminal via a gas station (where I picked up some bbq beef jerky to keep me going!) and headed back to Vancouver. When G and I first talked about visiting Canada, one option (which I vetoed pretty quickly) was to hire a camper van and travel ourselves, one reason being the big city traffic. Up to this point I think we’d have been alright, but even Megan was hating on the traffic and drivers in and around Vancouver. I had flashes of Caleb from Clarkson’s Farm driving in London as she is a self confessed countyry bumpkin who’s only been to these parts a few times! After powering through it was time for our first drop off, as we all bundled out to say farewell to Iain and Mikela, although as most of us would be in Vancouver for a couple more days, there was every chance that it was more of a TTFN. The next drop off, was a mere 3 minute walk from our hotel and everyone got out except NZ Cat, who’d booked a hotel miles away! We were not a tactile group by any means, so it was a first and last hug goodbye, but always a chance that we may regroup later on.
Now I’m not saying we looked out of place when we got to the hotel lobby, huge bags on our backs, walking boots on and looking a big ragged for all our travels, but I think the receptionist may have puked in her mouth a little bit. Our room wasn’t ready (and even if it was they’d probably be running background checks) so we dumped out stuff in storage and borrowed a couple of the hotel’s bikes. One of the perks of going somewhere that has apples on the desk and two types of fruit infused water stations… Our plan, to cycle along the Stanley Park Sea Wall route. The bikes seemed okay, my brakes were a bit squeaky and not the best, but they were free! Our next challenge was to navigate through the traffic to the start of the route, which would involve a lot of traffic lights and pedestrian crossings, whilst avoiding the crazy drivers on the road. We also didn’t have a way of attaching Google Maps to the handle bars, so we had to stop and check directions a few times as there’s no signage for such a popular attraction! Georgie led the way and there was only one small snafu where we were going downhill and long story short, I slammed the brakes to avoid going in to the back of G and went flying arse over tit! Thankfully I’ve got plenty of poutine padding and didn’t come off too badly!
It turns out that half of Vancouver had a similar idea on this sunny afternoon, as it was very busy along the cycle/footpath. There were all modes of movement along the path, including; tandems, rollerblades, scooters, skateboards, a very chunky motorised unicycle and a guy on some springy stilts! There was signage everywhere saying ‘be respectful of others, go slowly’ at least that’s what it said in English. In Canadian I presume it said, welcome to the fast and furious route, pedestrians cross anywhere without looking and ignore the direction of travel ! At the beginning of our route we saw more totem poles and popped in to the gift shop for some more magnets and stickers! From here we stopped at several beaches and little bays, whilst taking in the sites and smells of Vancouver beyond the sea wall. It was an excellent way to see what Stanley Park had to offer in the space of a few hours, but as it was the hottest day in Vancouver that year, a shower was very much needed.
We returned our bikes to the hotel and thankfully there was no truth test about potential damage for crashes. As our room was ready, we hopped in the lift and eagerly made our way to No. 316. If the lobby was anything to go by, we were in for a treat. Although after two weeks of scrabbling around in tents, needing to lock snacks away from bears and trekking to toilets (as we never went for a wild wee 👀) just staying in a room that we could stand up in and wouldn’t blow away would be luxury. However in the words of Rowan Atkinson in Love Actually, “this is much more than just a”… room! We were struck by the cool air-con upon entrance, could smell the essential oil diffuser, see a huge bed with plush pillows and a soft mattress. In a nutshell it was the heaven that had got me through the hell of camping! I’m joking of course… it was the booze. It had one unique feature that I’d never seen before in a room, a shower between the bedroom and the bathroom, should you which to purvey the user! Thankfully there was also a blind to cover it so G didn’t have to see me in uncompromising positions scrubbing every nook and cranny before heading out for some dinner. I did wonder if G would make it back out, as by the time I’d showered, she was already snuggled on the bed in a dressing gown and slippers, with glass of wine in hand!
Jen had recommended a place called Tacofino, which as the name suggests is renowned for its tacos and other Mexican food! G opted for a fish taco, which was tasty but one of the smaller portions we’ve had out here, especially compared to my beef burrito which was as full as a little egg (as Daisy would say!) rounded off with a side of tater tots and washed down with a larger/cider. Vancouver has a huge number of places to eat and drink, but one we had to try as we’re a couple of basic bitches was Dairy Queen, which most fortuitously was only a 5 minute waddle away. The Dusanjhs (friends from back home) said we had to try a ‘Blizzard’ although I was more excited by the prospect of what looked like the old McDonald’s toffee sundae! G claimed my excitement made me look like a mad man, so she covered for me by saying we’re tourists and it was our first time here, at which point the confused lady said “well then you’ve got to try a blizzard, as that’s what we’re known for!” G was supposed to get a mini one, but accidentally ordered the small instead.. and even a small is similar to a Ben & Jerry’s tub! I opted for rolo, G went for cookie dough. Despite belly aching about how much there was and bellies aching after, we still both managed to finish them before heading back to our new digs.
Georgie’s highlight of the day: Getting to the hotel room, fresh shower, dressing gown and clean sheets!

Saturday Sock Puppet Post!
It is Saturday once again, you dozy sock puppets! Kids! It's looking pretty dull out there. Are humans pissing off Mother Nature again? Give the old broad a break already. Sheesh. My Timmy is enjoying Pride Month. I've given him rainbow sweets. I wish I could eat sweets. I can't, though, I am a robot. Sweets will cause me to breakdown. Can't a fairy turn me into a real boy? Well, that's it for this episode, kids. TTFN! - Manic Minion. <3

Day Forty-nine
Seven weeks in!
Up this morning to strike camp from beneath a lovely fallen but still growing oak tree and a soft bed of leaves, first up is lugging the gear back to the road and getting underway.
Around the corner it's a right turn off the busy A road finally at Lochailort and the road sweeps downhill over the River Ailort and begins a long ride around thebsouth side of Loch Ailort.
It's some lovely going on this initial stretch, with some mild climbs and a great view across the water, with craggy cliffs rising to the side of the road.
Around the corner the road passes through the nice little bay at Glenuig, and the strikes south heading into the hills for some stiff climbs through the trees.
After some heavy work the route finally starts to descend and leads into a beautiful valley with a very fun ride down past the mountains through Kinlochmoidart.
Over the river Moidart and the climbs begin again, with a road that initially is so up-and-down that it almost looks as if it's warped. It's a long tough slog uphill before finally beginning another long downhill through the leafy hills down to the River Shiel.
We have a gentle ride through Acharacle which is pretty enough that it calls for a stop for lunch to take in the quiet views here, before heading back up the hills and on to Salen.
With a beautiful view over Loch Sunart, I take the turnoff to the west and begin a long, grindy 25 mile stretch out to the end of this peninsula. It's going to mean riding all the way back again, but there's a payoff at the end.
The road starts out following a nice line around the waterside, before leading in to a series of climb after climb, which make for some really heavy going.
A ways in and the road begins ascending in earnest, with narrow roads and sharp gradients making for challenging going despite the great views over the water.
Past Ardslignish and its beautiful bay, the road continues its ascent around the volcanic hills, and as the road twists through the gap in the hills a mighty headwind begins to kick in.
Around the pass I encounter a couple of cyclists coming the other direction. They assure me it's all downhill after here.
They lied.
A bit more grindy climbing into the wind and a bite to eat and there is a good 3 mile undulating descent down into Kilchoan, before the route turns off and it's back into some stiff climbs once more.
Out through the moorlands and around a corner and finally I spy the destination for today rising between the hills.
A little further round and we hit Ardnamurchan Lighthouse! With Skye's hills visible behind it in the distance, it's a beautiful sight.
And just along the coast is another major milestone this journey - Corrachadh Mòr, the most westerly point of Great Britain! Three down, one to go!
With that, evening is well underway, and despite the sun shining, there is a good bit of windchill, so time to find a spot to hole up for the night.
TTFN!
