The only essay I remember writing was one in AP World abt the domestic vs international (read: European) effects of the Great Depression, and it was only bc I pulled from France’s HOI4 focus tree (“France devalued its currency”) and basically said the Soviets “had no industry or exports to crash and so were mostly unaffected.”

If you’re gonna judge my writing skills[] why are you giving me so little time that even you acknowledge there’s no way it’ll be my best work.

This, though tbf it’s the same in actual college (just had to write two essays and like a dozen short answers in 3 hrs for my final).

And sorry to postjack, but speaking of actual college, I really wish APs asked you to write research papers.

I can sorta intuitively (I’ve taken one (1) STEM class so far) understand why the STEM APs wouldn’t, but the humanities APs didn’t either.

Those prepped me for essays, sure, but they didn’t do shit to prep me for papers; given that they’re college-level classes, I wish they would’ve. I just had to write like 3 research papers this semester and it would’ve been a godsend to have more than one (1) paper in a basic 12th-grade English class to teach me about how fucking bad I am at planning these.

writing a garbage essay feels like you’re the cow who gave birth to the two headed calf. in the morning, my professor will wrap him in newspaper and dissect him on a cold operating table. but here he is alive, under the pale glow of my computer screen. he is beautiful. there are twice as many logical fallacies as usual.

Yet another reminder that faking is a conscious choice that you make.

It is not something you can do accidentally, regards of what you're talking about.

You can't accidentally fake depression, or anxiety, or bipolar disorder, or schizophrenia, or any other mental illness.

You can't accidentally fake Borderline Personality Disorder, Histrionic Personality Disorder, personality disorders.

You can't accidentally fake ADHD, autism, Tourette's Syndrome, auditory processing disorder, aphasia or any other neurodivergence

You can't accidentally fake being trans or ace-spec or aro-spec or any other LGBTQIA+ identity.

You can't accidentally fake chronic illnesses like CFS, fibromyalgia or any chronic illness.

You also can't accidentally fake being good/intelligent at something. You didn't fool your peers into reaching your position.

You can't accidentally fake trauma, PTSD/cPTSD, DID/OSDD/DDNOS or any other trauma-based disorder.

Tldr:

Faking is a conscious choice.

You cannot do it by accident.

If you are worried that you are faking, that in itself is proof that you are not.

Without fail, stuff like this always reminds me of a quote from a spoken word track I found years ago:

The whole track always manages to make me cry, bc it reminds you fucking fervently that you must make sure you keep sight of the wonder, defiance, and optimism that’re so common in childhood.

I just hope that no matter how many times this world tries to harden me and turn me into a cold person, I hope I remain soft. May I still be compassionate. May I still be full of love. May I still be soft and sees hope in everything. And to never become something that once broke me.
