Has the author of the article ever had the feeling of not being an expert in what he does?
Cavill's youth was one of the reason he didn't get the role, but he was in the final four definition. It is not the same situation for SH, he lost nothing and less the role of this franchise. SH during the Casino Royale audition never made it to the final. Nothing is lost if you are not in the final competition contest in which the winner is decided. Heughan was not ready for the audition and much less for the role, and it was not SH's lack of notoriety that could affect the casting because that is not true, it was his lack of skills required for the role, and that has not changed.
Feeling nostalgic on the 70th anniversary of CASINO ROYALE's publication? Take a look back at Daniel Craig's casting story for the film.
In general, comparisons are inequalities, but trying to compare or justify considering Henry Cavill and Sam Heughan as models in the same situation, at Casino Royale’s audition, shows a lack of knowledge and information about James Bond’s audition.
In 2005 there were 4 finalists left to decide on James Bond 25; Daniel Craig, Henry Cavill, Sam Worthington (English-Australian) and Goran Visnjic (Croatian-American) in a hotly contested role with Craig. Henry Cavill was the preferred choice of Martin Campbell director (James Bond Golden Eye -1995 and Casino Royale -2006), but Henry was young. SH's name was not on the list, and he never reached the final, he did not pass the stages not because SH was young or insecure; he did not give examples of skills and did not have the merits to qualify, no chance. Don’t justify the unjustifiable. SH was not and is not the right one for James Bond. Simple as that!
You don't have to be an expert to understand it. Put this in your head: SH did not and does not define Ian Fleming's British spy genre. Outlander fans and SH friends want to make comparisons, but based on what's on screen with TSWDM or SAS: Rise of the Black Swan, he hasn't been able to show off his abilities. If there was one man to choose, why would it be Sam Heughan? If there are potentially as many James Bond as there are stars in the sky.
70 years ago today lan Fleming's first 007 story, Casino Royale, was published.
@pukehina I agree with you. Following the release of the acclaimed Casino Royale showed Daniel Craig was the perfect choice for a new era of Bond, not just because he looked different, but because he was given the freedom to be different with his impressive skills to cast not just a “star” but a serious actor, similar to how he’s Benoit Blanc in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery nominated for an Oscar in Best Adapted Screenplay.

I agree 💯%. Love again isn't Shakespeare, but I haven't seen many (except from some severe film critic's, who just don't WANT to find anything good in a Romcom), who didn't like the film! Look on twitter, on rotten tomatoes, on Facebook. It's actually very, very rare, that a movie is so universally liked. Certainly unusual for a Sam movie, because I remember well the crushing reviews of some of his fans for Bloodshot or SAS.
Even TSWDM got many, many critical reviews from fans. But not Love Again. Everyone, who actually went to the cinema to see it, loved it. Many went multiple times.
It's a pity, that Romcoms don't seem to attract larger audiences anymore. It looks like their time on the big screen is over. Since it was a very cheap movie though, with only a 9 Million Dollar budget, I'm sure it will effortlessly make money for Sony anyway and once it will be on streaming, I can see it being very popular. Maybe on Christmas? Would be the perfect time for a Netflix release.
I find the Sam-Hater corner in this fandom disgusting. Especially the "oh we're not haters, we're just OBJECTIVE" crowd, who stalk Sam 24/7 only to criticize every single thing he does. They post every negative review of Love Again, but are unable to find the good ones (which absolutely do exist btw), they track his SM numbers and if there's an increase yell ",he has bought followers!!". And if Sam is losing followers it's if course because he's so horrible and boring and talentless etc etc.
They claim they don't watch anything he does, but then they talk only about him all day every day! It's an obsession. I don't get it.
Does sharing negative reviews about the movie and Sam from reputable film critics make me a Sam hater? I plan to see the movie some day, I don’t expect much from it, but I like corny movies sometimes so who knows. But honestly, the clips I’ve seen from Sam in this movie make me cringe… for him. I wish he was better, because I like him as Jamie, especially in earlier seasons, but in everything else he’s just 😬.
I’m not sure where you think I have a problem with any criticism or discussion of anyone’s performance let alone SH’s. Love Again may not have been his best performance but he was part of a cast. As a whole I enjoyed the movie and left the theatre happy. Others who saw the movie may have seen things differently. But in all honesty how can anyone rate it 1 star? CD’s performance and soundtrack deserve more consideration in my opinion. Again CD’s music may not be your thing but CD definitely did CD. What were people expecting? My issue has always been the corner of this fandom that predicted, trolled and revelled in what they perceived was a huge failure for SH. Then for fun they go after his fans. I’ve never seen such self congratulatory, bullseye emoji posting people who to me not only wish for but seem to celebrate every negative and mean spirited SH related mention. And again please anyone explain to me why a person would spend hours and hours trolling an Outlander/SH fandom if you clearly hate SH? By the way anyone who wants to discuss SH as JF past and in the soon to be released season 7 is always welcome. I hope you will come back with your take on the first episodes .
