Following the pumpkin ghost figurine I reposted awhile ago, here is another adorable beast handmade by youkai-enthousiast artist Acotama.

Acotama's work is inspired by characters drawn in hyakki yagyo emaki (scrolls depicting "night parades of one hundred demons") popular during Edo-period. If some monsters were well known ones (kitsune, tengu, oni, kappa, etc.), many only appear once, making them cheeky creepers drawn for fun more than terrifying creatures of the night.

The discarded hakama shown here is awakening into a tsukumogami with a funny fox-deer face:

ワンドの三 HAHAKIGAMI Hahakigami is a tsukumogami living in a broom. It is a spirit that purifies and chases away negative spirits and energies. It is also considered an amulet that helps convince overly insistent guests to leave and get going again. After observing the Two of Wands, the Three of Wands announces that our projects are underway, and that more opportunities for expansion and growth are available to us. Upright: progress, expansion, foresight. The Three of Wands speaks of possibilities and horizons that are expanding; we simply have to keep our commitments and prepare to take the necessary steps. In this light, the Three of Wands also announces possible challenges and changes that await us as we continue on our path. Reversed: Unexpected delays, lack of vision, reduced goals. Reversed, this card suggests that growth and expansion are possible but that we do not yet have the courage to step out of our comfort zone. It can also mean that we may have tried a path of development but have not been able to achieve our goals, or that our projects are blocked by an obstacle. Finally, this card reversed suggests a difficulty in moving from thought to action, especially when faced with projects that seem too big for us.

August was japanese spirits time! Mystery and his new power, and yes with his tsukumogami crakle in chōchin form, bleeehehehhe!!!

Mystery in the new transformation, yep more mature? ha ha!!! Funny expressions too and with his tsukumogami "Crackle" in his kiseru form (As is known, in the world of anime pipes and kitsunes are elements that combine by obligation!) Mystery can transform his slave spirit into anything but the most typical is chōchin🏮

Shiromori here is reborn 2.0 or Shiro-little-mori✨

-Seto taishō, the crockery yokai- A tsukumogami made from broken crockery and kitchen utensils, taking the form of a little soldier. It chases after humans using makeshift weapons, but is incapable of causing true harm, and tends to break by crashing into walls. But even after shattered, it can put itself back together, and then resumes its haunting.

Biwa bokuboku(琵琶牧々) Are lute like musical instruments that gain sentience through centuries of care and maintenance. Their current mannerisms seem to echo their long gone masters from a different time.

Touhou OC: Inori Ichiren

Another character for Touhou: Faceted Imperial Treasures, a Buddhist prayer bead tsukumogami named Inori Ichiren. She’s based on the protagonist of Tsukumogami Emaki, Ichiren-Bozu, who is also a prayer bead tsukumogami. She’d be the stage 2 boss. Normally she hangs around at Myouren Temple, greeting visitors, but the “treasure incident” has piqued her interest in the Imperial Temple and the gods living there.

-A tsukumogami born from a string of century-old prayer beads.

-Wants to attain treasure status in order to lead as many souls as possible to enlightenment.

-Considered wise but preachy, other low-level youkai sometimes ask her for advice, but usually she gives it unprompted. Not good with social situations or conversations.

-She can lead souls to enlightenment, but because she is a material object, she herself will most likely never attain it.

-Currently resides at Myouren Temple; came to the Imperial Temple to find out more about how to become a treasure.

-Chants sutras to calm herself when in a panic.
