Hello, do you have tutorial for how you get 3D models into your game?

hi! it's easy, here's a quick tutorial:

So first off you'll need Sims 4 Studio, Blender, and a very general idea of how to use Blender to make CC

Your 3D model needs to be in a file format supported by Blender. I use 2.76 which supports what you see in the screenshot below. If the model you found isn't available in a supported format, there are converters online which can convert models to .obj (anyconv.com, etc.). Just give it a Google

I found a .dae model of an old TV on freepoly.org to use for this tutorial (the download came with a textures folder and a model folder).

In S4S, create a 3D mesh for whatever kind of model you downloaded (or just a deco object, if you don't want it to be functional).

In the meshes tab, export the mesh of the EA object.

Open the blender file of the EA object, and import the 3D model into the scene. The TV model is a collada file, but you'd import whatever kind of file you downloaded.

If it looks like nothing happened, don't worry! Your model is there, it's probably just to scale - which means super huge in comparison to the tiny Sims 4 object. Zoom out until you can see it, and then size it down with the 'S' key. Move it to the same place as the EA mesh

Rename UV Map to uv_0. Then, after deleting the EA mesh in edit mode, join the 3D model with the EA object. Shift-click the imported model then the EA object in the outliner, before pressing Ctrl+J (you have to be in Object mode for this to work. Use Tab key to quickly toggle between Edit and Object mode)

If you are using a deco object, you'll be replacing s4studio_mesh_1. s4studio_mesh_0 will probably be a shadow plane, which can be left alone or hidden altogether in your mesh

Apply a decimate modifier to the mesh if necessary (some 3D models are pretty geometry heavy – you'll probably want it under 10k polys). Since decimating is destructive, you don't want a very high poly mesh, because it won't look good after the modifier is applied. (you can retopologize the mesh but that's a whole other thing)

Import the mesh in S4S (the higher poly the mesh, the longer this takes), then import the texture that came with the model. This texture was a 4k JPEG, so it needed a bit of work (especially as TS4 doesn't support 4k textures). I sized it down to 1024x1024 and converted it to a .png.

Replace all LODs and shadow meshes. Make sure to import a blank bump and specular map, or else your object will be oddly lined and shiny

This last step is optional, but as most 3D models (that aren't game ready) are made for rendered environments, a lot of the textures don't have ambient occlusion or highlights. It makes for a bit of a plain-looking object in TS4, so I like to add these by baking the shadows in blender and painting highlights in PS. I also used the oil paint filter in Photoshop on the wood to make it more maxis-match.

If you haven't made anything for TS4 this might seem complicated, but once you get the basics it's very, very simple. Like copy-and-paste

the only other thing would be to make sure that the license for the 3D model permits personal use! (and not to paywall it obviously because beyond being crusty behaviour, that is legally perilous)

TS4: Korean High School Set UPDATED + New Item

Some time ago I posted a Korean High School set for you.

I noticed some errors on a few objects of this set. Like weird shadows, textures etc.

So I decided to fix it update it, as well as the cc version of the Korean high school lot.

I also added one more item to the set: a functional whiteboard :)

* HOW TO UPDATE THE SET?

- If you have the old version: On your Mods folder you’ll probably find a folder called “channel4sims - korean high school set”. Delete this and replace it with the new file. If you don’t remove the old version, the new one may not show up in your game properly.

- If you’ve never downloaded it before: Just download it normally and put it on your Mods folder :)

* HOW TO UPDATE THE LOT?

- If you have the old version: You don't really need to replace it. But since a few items will go missing when you replace the cc set, you can delete the old lot version from your gallery. Search for "Korean High School" (check if it's the cc version) and delete it. But it's optional.

Download the new version of the lot, and put the tray files on your Tray folder :)

- If you’ve never downloaded it before: Just download it normally and put it on your Tray folder :)

Just in case someone needs the old version (if you used the objects on a lot), I'll leave a link to it as well :)

Hogwarts Deco Sims - Walking

made these forever ago so if theres any issues i apologise!

12 decos with 8 swatches each, 4 with the house ties and 4 options with the black ties if you just want to use them as private school sims!

because of the school bags these are very high poly!

you can find all of them in sculptures for $0 or by typing in ‘hogwartsdeco’ or 'merulasnydes’

you need to turn off dynamic shadows for them to appear properly! you can learn how to do that here

you can include these in your builds or do whatever you want with them but please do not put behind any paywalls!!!!

what settings are you playing on for ts4? Also do you have any recommendations for a smoother ts4 game? thank you!

Here's my graphics options screen.

I do edit my graphics rules a bit whenever I update, typically to remove the forced occlusion and DoF, since my Reshade handles all that, and also up the shadows to 4K, and the object textures to 2K.

For smoother gameplay, honestly idk... a lotta what's wrong with The Sims 4, at least my game is the simulation lag, but luckily it's an occasional thing.

Either way I haven't had a lotta luck fixing it completely. I assume keeping your settings where they should be depending on your specs, and keeping mods and cc organized and at a reasonable size would help though, also avoiding big lots and households with too many interactive objects and high poly cc, downloading mods that help minimize lag in general, and/or running third party programs that lower or temporarily switch off unused background apps should also help, but I feel like a lot of it is also just the game itself.

what's your process for texturing your cc, generally speaking? you really nail the style of ts4 while being a little more high-poly.

hi, thank you for the nice compliment! my process is a bit slapdash, generally finding whichever texture i want to use, layering the baked shadows on top a couple of times and then adding details until it looks 'done' enough to me

2 things that have helped me achieve a more 'maxis' feel with my cc"

1) paying more attention while meshing to how i unwrap my UV. i used to just hit smart uv project and call it a day, but now i'm much more careful about all the most visible bits of the mesh having large, recognizably mapped islands so i know what im working on when i'm texturing without having to go back into blender

2) exporting the UV map and turning the lines white to highlight the edges of an object. almost all maxis items have these cartoony highlights on their edges, and it really makes such a difference. it can turn an object that looks more alpha to maxis match instantly imo

As much as the character creator got a big buff in Legendary Edition, it was still never enough to convey the design that my Shepper has in my head. However with so much cc out there TS4 could definitely provide where ME:LE couldn’t in the design department!

This is her! Her name is Mercy Vedati (Shepard isn’t her canon name in my headcanon, I gave her a south asian surname instead c:)

She’s a 32 year old biracial lady (Nepalese-Dominican) and also has CIPA. Like Joker, an illness that would normally have a high mortality rate has a lot of treatments in the ME universe to facilitate Mercy living a life that allows her to be in the military. As a Spacer it certainly helped having access to military health insurance as a dependent! 

Her mother: Ekta Vedati is Nepalese and a buddhist, and Mercy was raised in this religion but did not start actively practicing it until after the Sole Survivor incident on Akuze in order to cope with her trauma.

Aligning with her beliefs, she’s a paragon who does not drink, is a vegetarian, and only ever kills in self-defense. 

As she’s an infiltrator I model her more after the N7 Shadow in multiplayer, so she uses a sword, rather than a katana esque shape, she owns both a kukri and a kora sword, but only wields one at a time. She also practices bajra, a nepali martial art that Ekta taught her that combines kyokushin, thai boxing, kick boxing and taekwondo to make quite an effective martial art form.

She does not have a hamster, but instead a two-meter Indian rock python named Karma. Her fish tank is filled with banded catsharks and rather than model ships she has her swords mounted on the wall of her cabin. 

One of the last memories she had of her father who passed away when she was still a child was of reading her a fantasy book with unicorns in it to calm her when she would have nightmares of the ships they lived on spontaneously exploding. Inspired by the nature of unicorns being a good omen, she started vandalising ships by finding a hidden spot to carve a tiny unicorn into a panel to “protect the ship.” She has since grown out of that fear, but to keep her father’s memory alive she instead carves a little unicorn into each of her guns and on both of her swords.

Her relationship with Garrus is more of a slowburn in my head, with regular sparring sessions on the Normandy Turian style to keep them both sharp in close quarter combat. And it took Mercy time to build up the courage to ask him that fateful question.

Just wanted to update people on some updates i have been uploading over the past week. I had some things i needed to fix, and some things I wanted to implement, and some things that needed tweaking for one reason or another. So what has been fixed? Thanks for asking!

All chairs that slotted to a surface have been fixed. These include dining chairs, barstools, desk chairs, and high chairs. You can redownload, or if that's too hectic, grab S4S and run their batch fix, that is all I did. 

I enabled desks and dressers to snap under bunk beds. This was a little thing I wanted for my game, so you all benefit. Not mandatory though. Other objects that snap like loveseats, living chairs and alike already snapped so didn't need and update

do note that my bedding will not snap. Because I use separated bedframes it would require a larger overhaul to how I slot bedframes to mattresses which was out of the scope of this update

The new double showers I needed to make for Hamptons Getaway and Serenity Bathroom still had occluders leading to a dark spot, that has been rectified. 

Lennox Kitchen 4 seater table was missing a shadow group, cannot believe it's taken years to notice that...

Because this totalled in 27 custom sets and 3 addons, it's a lot of sets that needed to be reuploaded. Because of that I am not listing and linking, I will be here all week. If it has anything listed above, it was updated so please use some common sense. If you are unsure, ask on this post to keep it all in one place.

SFS was giving me grief and throwing a "key not found" error during this process. If you get this try hard refreshing (crtl+F5) first to see if that helps. I did test all the files to make sure they loaded to download page as I went, but issues may still arise. In that case, grab file from Google Drive. If you are experiencing this, be very specific and tell me what file specifically, otherwise I am unable to help (telling me "you can't download" something is as useful as a chocolate teapot). 

If you do think I have missed updating a file (very likely) please also be specific so I can double check. I have made a lot of CC and even I go "hey that looks familiar, did I make that?

In that process I dumped all Onedrive links which will no longer work, there should at least be a link for google drive for older content, and if the item no longer exists, then it is no longer available. So please don't ask because i wont be about to help (I think it was just 2 cowhide rugs and early TS4 houses which are still on the gallery).
