Oh yes that is true! Mostly. About a century ago, Takashi Hara was assassinated there on his way to a party conference in Kyoto. Then a decade later, Osachi Hamaguchi was on his way to a military exercise in Okayama when he was shot. He initially survived, but died within a year when the wound became infected.
So this was actually an even more tumblry post than I thought: trains, crabs, and the death of major world leaders....!
Loving this story from the very tumblr intersection of crabs and trains. I was just at JR Tokyo Station the other day—I wish I'd known then! Here is the crab in question:
And apparently they've found similar fossils at the Mitsukoshi department store in Nihonbashi, the Odakyu department store in Shinjuku and the Tobu Department Store in Ikebukuro. How did I go so long without knowing this??
#is this a weird coincidence?? yes#but to be fair#trying to transfer to the keiyo line can make even the nicest person a little homicidal#no no no seriously.... tokyo station is a major hub#(even more so back then)#and also the closest shinkansen (bullet train) stop to the pm's office and residence and the diet#but man! as a usamerican it's so *weird* to think of the head of govt taking public transport#and like a toddler i am now googling “総理大臣は本当に新幹線に乗るの??”#and apparently they still do take the shinkansen today!#though for getting around locally you have to think they'd take a private car??? right?
