thinking abt various possibilities for hickey-centric fix-it rescue scenarios and am realizing that if you set the divergent point for them getting saved far enough into the show he would just. Not want to leave. at all. i can see him getting rescued and brought to safer land/waters/wherever with the rest of whoever is still alive and just. running away. going back. craving the mind numbing expanse of arctic wastelands, too deep in manic psychosis to process anything other than the connection he believes he has with the tuunbaq. obviously the ending they get in the show is for many of the characters the only possible ending that would ever make thematic sense, but for hickey especially he just Could Not do Anything that Wasn't staying in the arctic and dying there. he would never survive in the arctic and he would never survive anywhere else. he can't leave he can't stay all he can do is die there and face how much he does not belong anywhere

KINGER WOULD BANG UZIS MOM 3AM UPDATE
It’s three in the morning and I’m thinking about fucking. Norking. Kinger x Uzis mom. I’m. I’ve reached a new low
FACTS about this godforsaken crossover au idea I have now:
Everything happens because Jax accidentally causes a singularity by telling Caine to divide 0 by 69
the resulting explosion blasts the computer they’re in into space
it somehow lands on murder drones planet
Uzis mom finds it and Kinger just. pops out or something
Uzi immediately likes Kinger because he’s genuinely interested in that gun she built
Kinger gives N exactly one scrap of validation, pats him on the head, and N is like “gee gosh thanks sir!” He cries later.
Uzis mom complains about her lack of mobility as a crab thing, Kinger consistently shows sympathy and she’s like. What the fuck. You’re weird. What are you doing stop that. Meanwhile Kingers just like ???’:] ???
kinger ends up repairing her at some point. He’s very gentle, of course. Uzis mom has literally no idea what to do with this.
she doesn’t ask what his name is for. Literal weeks.
forced proximity because they’re trying to fix the computer to get the rest of the cast out?? Uzi tries to help?? Unsuccessfully??
why am I giving this. Plot
oh god
kinger opens up about missing his human body at one point and Uzis mom is just like. You’re a what now.
Kingers like yup. I was human before this. It was nice, I think. I really miss having bones. (She’s reaching for a gun)
He and Kahn play cards together
Kahn is like. Listen. you just treat my wife good now. I failed her and she deserves better than me and I see that but you better treat her right because I sure couldn’t.
Kinger immediately tries to comfort him and shares about his own wife, thinking Khans like, blaming himself for losing her in the first place, when in reality he was just. A coward
Kahn, a coward, never corrects him
They don’t like, wall-e kiss at any point. He ends up falling asleep holding her, and she’s like.,,,,emotions,,,other than..,rage…,oh my god,,,,..,,..
uzi supports all of this and takes bets on when her mom will fuck the weird chess guy. Thad is winning
Kinger teaches Thad how to shoot firearms
he chess-shuffles into a blizzard at one point looking for parts, Uzis mom has to rescue him and give him this full pep talk on how he should get his shit together. And he’s like. I would if I could ma’am (he calls her ma’am because he’s scared of her) (as he should be)
The size difference is enough he can literally hold her in the palm of his hand and that’s a WAY cuter mental image than it should be, what’s HAPPENING to me
Kinger has a full on crisis when he realizes he likes her romantically. And chess shuffles into a blizzard. Again.
Queenie pulls a mufasa lion king apparition from beyond the grave to tell him it’s ok to bang Uzis mom
Kingers like staring up into the sky with icicles hanging off him and just goes *voicecrack* “OkAy!1”
“How would you like being stuck in a hunk of garbage like this!? It’s disgusting!”
“Huh?? I don’t think you’re disgusting at all!”
“Oh come on! You literally wipe down the keyboard every time you use it, and every time you touch me you get oil all over your stupid gloves— just admit you feel bad for me and get on with it!”
if I write any more dialogue this is ending up on ao3
IF I HAVE TO WRITE A 40K ABOUT KINGER BANGING UZIS MOM. I AM GOING TO DIE. GOOSNIGHT

Okay so once again, 3 am thoughts have gifted me with yet another au. It is by no means original but screw it: SmithSwap
The only things I’m switching is their ages, so now Nya is the older one, but it. Gets. Fun.
For specifics, as of the Pilots/S1 Nya is 15 and Kai is 11, because I want bebe kai
Now, prior to Wu showing up, it’s pretty much the same as canon only with roles reversed. Nya mostly runs the shop while Kai is trying to everything he can to make things easier for his big sister, and I mean everything. The only one Nya doesn’t stop him from doing is cooking because Kai is the better chef, though neither can figure out why. Nya also likes to tell Kai stories of their parents since he can’t remember them too well, much to his disappointment.
ANYWAY, Wu shows up, Kai gets upset he’s insulting his sister’s work, then Skulkin show up. Kai does get snatched, much to Nya worry and canon continues.
Okay but also tiny spinoff, it also would’ve been hilarious if Nya still got kidnapped because then when the guys meet Kai they’d be like “who is this sassy lost child?”
So then while Nya’s training, I’m actually going to say what happened when Kai is captured.
You see, a side affect of being really freaking old is that your perception of time changes, specifically how long periods seem shorter. Garmadon decided that because of the prophecy it would be best to snatch the Master of Fire, who he thought would be Ray.
So you can imagine his surprise when his Skulkin bring in a kicking, screaming 11 year old child.
He is, understandably, not happy and very confused.
He sends the Skulkin away and tries his best talking with Kai. Like, as little malice as he can in a gentle voice, and he actually learns a few things. 1) both Ray and Maya went missing years ago, 2) these kids have no idea about anything regarding the Elemental Masters, 3) Kai’s sister has been raising him since their parents went missing, and she’s only four years older than him
Understandably, he is concerned, but also sees this as an opportunity. If he raises the Master of Fire to be loyal to him, then he’ll never want to fulfill his role in the prophecy, thus ensuring his victory. also he really misses lloyd and now when he returns he’ll have two kids!!! how amazing is that
So yeah Kai’s stay in the Underworld isn’t that bad. This Garmadon guy is pretty nice, tells him awesome stories about his parents, teaches him a bunch of things(mostly how to fight), and really just acts like the paternal figure he never had(Garmadad is canon, no matter what form you can fight me on this). The only part that sucks in Samukai, but he’s just a jerk and Garmadon makes sure he’ll never actually do anything to hurt him. He does miss Nya a lot though.
Anyway back with Nya and the guys.
They don’t actually know the exact reason why she was here at the beginning. All they know was that Wu originally left for the Master of Fire and came back with her instead. They know she has a brother, but aren’t quite sure how he falls into it.
They learn her full story the night they’re heading to the Temple of Fire, at which when they’re winding down Zane brings up how she never actually told them how she met Wu.
They are very concerned when they find out the whole story and swear they’ll help her get him back, which is nice.
Then she sees Kai But Actually Garmadon, follows, and bam Sword of Fire time. She isn’t able to fully use it, but she’s able to get a few sparks. However, things then start to take a turn for the worst.
Kai is actually here, very confused why Garmadon’s having him tied to the ceiling, but hey Nya’s here! But then oh no he then realizes that Garmadon is the bad guy, which gets him upset and more then a little betrayed.
Seeing him hurt his sister, the one of raised him, actually has Kai pick up the sword and use his powers. Under normal circumstances, it probably wouldn’t have been bigger than a few sparks, however Kai has his big sister in danger, dealing with the betrayal of an almost father figure, holding the Sword of Fire, and being surrounded by his element.
So yeah. Not that small of a fire.
The guys and Wu are actually able to to witness the truly incredible fire blast he lets out from the camp, put two and two together, and start heading over. Wu didn’t follow Nya…..because plot and was the able to help them fight off the Skulkin.
Anyway, it’s more than enough to dissipate the shadows, however it also wakes up the dragon. Garmadon, who is sort of panicking because That Was Not Supposed To Happen, ends up scooping up an unconscious Kai and the Sword and retreating to the underworld, leaving behind a very pissed Nya and an equally pissed Fire Dragon.
But yeah, Nya deals with the dragon, they get the other ones and head to the Underworld with Wu this time, and he’s actually the reason they’re able to get past all the Skulkin.
But yeah, Samukai gets vaporized and Garmadon about to leave when a feverish Kai makes his way in and begs Garmadon to not do it and that they can fix things.
And Garmadon….actually pauses for a second and you can see the conflict in his eyes before he shakes his head and says “there’s no going back for me” and walks through. Kai then collapses and the end up heading back home.
As for what’s up with Kai, who would’ve guessed tapping into a kind of power you aren’t supposed to have access to yet in a high stress situation would be bad for the body. He has a really bad fever but he’s fine after a few days.
The few month timeskip in between the Pilots and S1 is mostly spent training Kai, so they have quite a bit less free time. However when S1 starts and Kai hears about Lord Garmadon, he actually wants to check it out himself first.
So yeah, he meets Lloyd by himself and it actually doesn’t go that badly. Kai actually buys some candy for them to share and they leave the town, and Kai actually starts talking with him. Eventually the topic comes up about Garmadon and Kai gives a rough basis about how he sort of got kidnapped, and then his work in progress plan of making him good again. Lloyd is completely down with seeing his dad again and says how they could probably get his dads attention if their got their own evil army.
And because they’re both stupid kids, neither of which have had parents before, Kai thinks it’s a great idea.
So yeah. That’s why they find the Serpentine here.
Ofc, it isn’t a right away type thing. It takes them about a month before they find the Hypnobrai Tomb, and Kai just plays off all his time spent out as him having made a friend, which they can’t exactly argue with.
Ofc, canon still happens and when Kai was busy training Lloyd ended up finding the tomb and releasing the Serpentine, and they do their regular Canon Nonsense.
However, Kai is not too happy about the whole Attack Villages things and after a bit comes clean to the ninja about their original plan. They very much aren’t happy, but admit his heart was in the right place and they doubt he’d pull something like this again.
Fast-forward a bit more, Kai is mostly chill with Zane’s “weirdness” and unfortunately stays home when the Hypnobrai burn down the Monestary. It’s only because the dragons were able to get out and protect him that he was still alive. Nya’s actually the one who yells at Zane this time around because again. Kai almost died, but it’s all cool later and they find the Bounty :D
Anyway, Canon again continues. Kai is still really good with the dragons and is a little upset they need to leave. He also gets along really well with Ed and Edna. Then when Lloyd joins Kai is a little….well he doesn’t hate him but he does spend a while avoiding him.
Eventually Nya has enough of their dancing around each other and locks them both in the same room so they can talk it out. Turns out the reason Kai was avoiding him was because Lloyd’s betrayal really hurt since they were supposed to do it to find Garmadon, not hurt people. They have a tearful apology, then Kai learns how much of a jerk the Serpentine were and is like “the next time I see any I’ll protect you, since you’re like my little brother and as a big brother it’s my job to keep you safe”
Now it’s Samurai Time :)
You see, this time around Kai has double reasons for being the Samurai. 1) Yeah, he hates being left behind and wants to be involved but also 2) he wants to keep his big sister and big brothers safe
So yeah, that happens. He does think it’s pretty funny when they keep trying and failing to one up him though.
But then :) He gets captured with Lloyd :)))
So yeah, that sucks but it only gets worse because while Kai was able to “summon” his Samurai Mech, he had to send it off to get the ninja away. So that sucks.
Garmadon eventually shows up to help since the Serpentine stole both his kids, much to Nya’s chagrin.
Then comes the freaking Volcano Scene and this one is from Nya when she rescues Kai, then has to choose between Lloyd or the Fangblade. She ends up unlocking her True Potential by essentially leaving behind all negative feels she had for Lloyd and accepting him under her protection just like she did Kai.
The sheer torrent of water easily cools all the lava and thoroughly soaks them. But hey, even Kai has to admit being wet is better than being burnt alive. Also when the ninja start wondering aloud why the Samurai didn’t help Kai bashfully admits he was the Samurai, and this thoroughly impresses the ninja since Kai is like, 12 at this point.
Uhhhh, S2 isn’t too different. Kai is super happy that the dragons are back and is easily Ultra’s favorite. He isn’t hit with either Garms spell nor the Tomorrows Tea, but is there to comfort Lloyd and says that even though he got hit with some magic stuff Kai is still going to protect him since he’s still his older brother. On the Dark Island Kai is heartbroken Nya got corrupted and swears he’ll help fix her. When Garmadon gets purified Kai looses his shit and gets so excited since let’s goooooo not only is his dad not evil anymore they can go out in public together :DDDD
S3, also not too different. During the whole Love Triangle nonsense Kai’s just sitting there so confused. Also Pixal joins team Kai’s Older Siblings. Him getting captured was just him being at the wrong place wrong time. He has a really fun time time in space though, which was nice.
But uh. Then Zane hecking dies, which hits everyone really hard, especially Kai. Only this time, Nya ends up taking Kai back to Ignacia and opens up the forge again, pretty much cutting all contact with the other ninja, Wu and Garmadon. While it might’ve been boring and lonely, at least in Ignacia they were safe.
Kai is…honestly really miserable, but hides it well. He can barely get up some mornings, but does so anyway since he’s desperately trying to act like things are normal, despite how Nya doesn’t talk very much. He misses the other ninja a lot, even Pixal despite not knowing her for very long, but doesn’t want to tell Nya since again, trying to make things normal again. Nya also doesn’t let him out of the house too often, only really if she’s there to watch him.
This routine goes on for about two months, until Lloyd shows up to try and get everyone back together. And Nya.....Nya doesn’t like that.
She and Lloyd end up having a bit of a passive aggressive argument that is progressively getting louder until Kai just. Snaps.
He yells at them to stop fighting, how they’re acting so horribly and that he wished things could go back to normal, how Zane wouldn’t want this and that he’d be disappointed in them.
The two visibly flinch.
Then Kai realizes exactly what he just said and who he said it to. And he runs.
Nya and Lloyd both spend some time in silence, mulling over what Kai just said because he was right. Zane would hate what’s become of the team and how they separated.
Nya ends up being the one to break the silence, asking Lloyd where and when to meet.
When Kai doesn’t return from the woods, she ends up leaving a note before she leaves, explaining where she’s going and how she’s sorry.
Meanwhile, Kai is having a slight breakdown in a Tree Base he made years ago.
But yeah, fast forward a bit and Kai’s getting ready to sneak onto Chen’s Island, but in a slightly different way than canon. Instead he takes a slightly experimental ship that’s basically a smaller Bounty which he calls the Destiny’s Wish. Think of the comparison like a Car vs a Go Cart. Comfortably, it can fit 2 people long term, but for quick trips can carry as many as 10, but it’ll be a tight fit and the Wish might have some trouble flying.
So yeah, he’s on his own and he doesn’t arrive until a few hours before the EMs all get dropped from the plane. Shade is actually the one to find him first, but has a moment of pause since Literal Child and gives Kai enough time to kick him into a tree and run. The whole chase actually lasts about two hours but unfortunately Kai isn’t able to get back to the Wish and gets caught.
Now for the fun part :)
So all the EMs(and I do mean all because he wanted to “thank them for their contribution”) are in the throne room, their powers snatched, when Chen said aloud “But it is such a shame that we don’t have the Master of Fire, the we’d be able to complete the spell.” and for the briefest second the Ninja Fam are relieved but then Chen does a whole “SIKE, WE GOT HIM” and has some of the guards bring Kai out.
The Ninja are, understandably, freaking out. The EMs kinda are too since Child but only a little bit and it’s not personal
But then just as Chen’s about to snatch his fire, Kai starts saying how Chen cheated since Kai never got to play in a match. Chen refutes it since His Game His Rules but then Kai says that age old statement to get siblings to do Stupid Shit: “What are you, scared?”
Chen is not scared, thank you very much. And you know what, since you’re so confident fine, you now get your own challenge!
So yeah, now Kai has his own challenge.
What is it you might ask?
A vertical obstacle course with a time limit. If Kai doesn’t grab the Jade Blade, the exit closes.
Not that bad you might think. After all, Kai’s been training with the ninja for the past year, he’s probably got this in the bag.
Yeah welllllllll, a little bird told might have told Chen that a certain Master of Fire couldn’t swim.....so he uses Nya’s power to gradually fill up the room and forcing him up.
Surprise surprise, it was rigged against him. I’m talking platforms having false bottoms, ladders being oiled, high pressure water jets to knock him off, the works.
Kai is so close to making it. So close..... but Chen can’t have that happen now can he :)
So yeah, Kai ends up falling in and Nya almost drags all the EMs into the water trying to get him.
Luckily it’s at that moment Lloyd bursts in with Garmadon, frees the EMs and gets Chen’s staff. The EMs bust out and just as Nya’s about to dive in the whole thing starts draining, like an enormous whirlpool.
You see Chen actually thought ahead and realized that “hey, if the kid dies he’ll loose his power” so he made a plan that when Kai was going to fall in, he would use one of the tubes that shot water but in verse and suck him in. Luckily he was able to pull it off before the gem was smashed because if not MMM.
So yeh, Kai is now captured, but still on the island. Skylor reluctantly copies his powers(she got sort of close with Nya and this is the little brother she was gushing about), and Anacondrai happens. However, the two are able to escape, Skylor’s actually able to figure out the Summon Dragon thing, and then they head back to the main group.
Then comes the inevitable question of “how did you get here anyway?” and then Kai shows them The Wish. He actually ends up flying back with Garmadon before all the EMs learn how to Summon Dragon so they can warn people about the ensuing danger.
So yeah, they head out, the Pythor thing happens, canon then Sad because Garm still needs to do the whole sacrifice thing D:
That one hits Lloyd and Kai really hard, but they both use each other for comfort so it isn’t as bad as it could’ve been.
But yeah, this is getting long so tbc for a part 2 :DDD

What Happened Is Not Right And That’s Okay (Chapter 2)
Ao3
Link to Chapter 1 Fandom: The Owl House Rating: T Warnings For this Chapter: Dehumanization, ableism, possible borderline gaslighting, and parental ignorance/neglect possibly bordering on child abuse. Relationships: Eda Clawthorne & Lilith Clawthorne, Eda Clawthorne & Eda Clawthorne’s Mother, Eda Clawthorne & Principal Bump (additional relationships to be added as the story progresses. Summary:Living with a curse was never a simple task. And really from day one Eda knew it was going to be complicated. But she can't help but wonder at times. Just why hers has to be this complicated.
In short: An Exploration of what life might have been like for Eda growing up with the curse. AN: Hey there so what story is basically what it says on the tin. With some creative liberty of course.
Something to keep in mind is that this story progresses: 1. Explore Eda's character and others in response to the curse 2. Help myself explore and come to terms with my own Chronic Illness 3. Help educate others who aren't as familiar with disabilities on the realities of the situation. This one is important to me since the fandom can have an ableism issue. And I would like for readers to maybe take away why the use of certain tropes is a lot worse than they might realize. 4. This story is not meant to be either tragedy or inspiration porn. 5. I've only really begun interacting with the disability community in the last few years. So if I do a misstep its unintentional ignorance. Which I realize is not great either. I just want to make clear my intent is not malicious. If someone else who is in the community in some form be it Neurotypical, disabled, chronically ill, etc. sees something questionable within the story that comes off as unintentionally ableist please tell me. I would be happy to clarify if the plot beat was unintentional (and fix it) or somehow deals with the story itself. Which will happen sometimes. 6. Some of this is based on my own experience. Some of it is not. The parents issue this chapter is a good example of it not being based on my own experience.
This story will touch on some topics that might be sensitive to some readers. I will include warnings . If your sensitive to the topic please keep that in mind before starting it. Also please bear in mind that not all chapters will have the same element. So while one chapter might have one issue, the other might not. A good example of this is an arc I will be exploring later in the story involving ableism in sports.
For anyone who wasn’t around for the first chapter. This was originally inspired by @beckyarteest‘s fic before it went off and became its own quasi multi chapter AU (I am bad at sticking to canon compliance): I'm getting old and I need something to rely on.
Anyways Actual story is under the read more. Ao3 link is at the top. Please let me know what you think!
One day turned into two and two turned quickly into a week. And after that with no real sign of the ‘curse’ resurfacing, Eda had actually started to think that maybe everyone else was right.
Maybe whatever had happened that day was just a one off thing.
Unfortunately, reality had made that hope come crashing down just over two weeks after “the duel that wasn’t” with Lilith.
=============
Eda wouldn’t remember the moment that would properly change everything about her life.
Though, she guessed that wasn’t entirely accurate. Considering the biggest moment had happened a week prior was when she had been supposed to be vying for an Emperor’s Coven spot against Lily. The day of her first transformation.
However the incident in potions class, the moment they now knew this was almost certainly not just a one off incident like they had been hoping? That was the moment it became all too real for Eda.
Even if it would be a while longer before it became real for the rest of the family. That was the day reality started to sink in for Eda. As it was the day that she knew at least to an extent that her life wasn’t going to ever be the same.
It would also be her first gateway into the many, many issues that came with the curse. Whether it be other people’s treatment of her cursed form, right or wrong, or just still having people take her seriously in the beginning.
Something that would be a recurring struggle she would have to deal with in the coming years.
Much like the duel, she would only be told what had happened afterward. The entire time she was transformed she wasn’t even aware of what was going on.
It was something that would over time become associated with fear and worry. At the time though, for an Eda who was still in denial, it was more of a source of annoyance.
Eda didn’t like that she had to rely on other people to necessarily do ‘the right thing’. Especially since in both instances so far it nearly hadn’t ended in her favor.
Thankfully of all people it was apparently Principle Bump who came to her rescue. Seeing reason when one of the other teachers had tried to suggest handing her off to the head of the Beast Keeping classes for the time being...
Bump scowled at that not particularly liking the way this conversation was going, “She is still a student. A transformed one but one nonetheless. Unless she starts attacking someone there is no reason to be summoning Arden.”
Sure, he may not be particularly fond of Eda’s antics at times. Sometimes he wished that the entire Clawthorne dynamic wasn’t like how it was. It was a source of many of his headaches.
But that did not mean he supported putting Eda in a cage.
Even if she wasn’t in her right mind currently, she was still a student. And she wasn’t being aggressive. Honestly, this other form so far hasn't been aggressive at all. Though who was to say that wouldn’t change?
He was more than a bit concerned with how little they knew. However, there was one thing he was certain on: that forcing her into a cage would make things worse, not better.
Not that he particularly liked the idea even before you factored in the fact that they’d be caging a student.
“So what do you suggest we do with her then, sir? Leaving her out could cause property damage.”
Which, arguably, was more Eda than anything else.
“Put her in my office and call a healer. Hopefully someone will know what to do to get her to transform back.”
“Sir, I must protest. Putting her with you could put you-”
Bump cut the other teacher off before he could continue. “I didn’t become the principal of this institution by sitting on my thumbs Marcus. I am more than capable of handling an unruly student. Even if she has been transformed into another creature.”
Not that he genuinely thought handling would be an issue.
=============
“So what your saying is neither of you can help.”
Bump had ended up summoning both a healer and grabbing DeFrost anyway. Hoping maybe one of them would know how to solve their issue.
“I apologize, sir. But I’m used to dealing with minor curses. Things of inconvenience mostly. Under normal circumstances, I would refer this student to a specialist. This is way beyond my own capabilities to treat.”
And of course, they couldn’t do that without involving the Clawthorne parents. Who he had tried to alert when Edalyn had transformed again. But they had both been busy and he had yet to hear anything from them yet.
“And I’ve never seen a creature quite like this. Cursed or otherwise. I could possibly see if I have anything discussing something similar to Ms. Clawthorne. However...”
“Most likely Edalyn will have transformed back by then.” Bump concluded.
So apparently they were dealing with not just a curse. But a rare curse. Great.
Why was it that nothing involving the Clawthornes was just plain and simple?
“At the very least can you tell me if she’s any sort of danger?”
That way he could have his staff stop bothering him.
DeFrost adjusted their glasses. “Well it's hard to say without knowing the curse or how it impacts her mind. But based on normal cursed creature behavior most likely she won’t be a danger to anyone unless she’s provoked. However there’s still a lot of questions there...”
“Like what could provoke her.”
“Exactly.” DeFrost nodded. “Sir, I know you said you could handle if anything happened but-”
“I can handle myself just fine Arden. I appreciate your concern but if I need your help again I will ask for it.”
“Understood sir.” DeFrost agreed reluctantly. Before taking their leave.
“Am I dismissed as well sir?”
“No. Actually I wanted to ask. I know you can’t help her return to normal. But I imagine the transformation back won’t be easy on her. Is there anything we can do to ease that at least?”
“Well yes. But that would normally involve the family…”
“I’ll handle anything that might come if they protest. This is already a difficult time for Edalyn. Let's not make it worse.”
=============
Thankfully time really was all they needed for Eda to transform back.
Though rather than answering his questions and possible suspicions. Eda’s return to awareness just raised even more of them in their steed.
“Welcome back Edalyn. How are you feeling?”
“Like an icicle is trying to drive a hole into my skull,” Eda said, wincing again rubbing the right side of her head. “What happened?”
“I believe that you will probably want this, then.” Bump rather than answer the question slid the potion that the healer had left for Eda when she finally returned to normal. “The healers figured you might have one after you transformed back.” Bump explained as Eda downed the bottle.
Eda frowned as she put the bottle down again. Now that the pain was receding she could think a bit more clearly. And realize that she couldn’t think of a reason for why she would be in the office in the first place. “Back? Wait was I-”
“Transformed into that creature from the duel? Yes.”
“I didn’t even realize it,” Eda noted with a frown. Much like the last time everything was just a giant blank from right before she transformed. Which worried her on another level. Why was she unable to remember anything from when the spell, curse, whatever it was took effect?. “I didn’t hurt anyone did I?”
“No everyone got out of your minor escapade without a scratch.” Bump assured her. Deciding to leave off the near incident with DeFrost and the cages for the moment. It wasn’t like he hadn’t specifically told them not to get the Beast Keeping professor involved.
Eda sighed in relief. “That’s good at least.”
“So you really aren’t aware of what happened after you transformed? I take it?”
“No, the last thing I remember is being in the potions classroom. And then waking up here. Everything between the two is a blank.” Eda’s face scrunched up in a frown. There was a bit of a tangible residue of some sort of memory. But she still didn’t know the relevance of it. “Mother’s going to kill me for missing class.”
“I would have thought you might be somewhat pleased by the new attention.”
After all that had been a reason behind some of Eda’s pranks over the years. Though sometimes Bump wondered just how much Eda realized this herself.
“Not like this.”
“Either way I’ll write a note. In the meantime you really should have a specialist check you.”
Eda winced. “That’s probably going to be easier said than done.”
“If it comes to it, the same offer I made to your sister when she was being given difficulty by them I’ll extend to you. If you need someone to help you get seen about this curse then I can try to help you find someone that your parents won’t cause problems with.”
Eda winced remembering the fiasco that had been trying to get her sister her glasses. There was an unfortunate high probability history could repeat itself. She really hoped her parents had maybe learned. “I’ll keep that in mind, thank you Principal Bump.”
“Your welcome.”
Eda’s unusual politeness wasn’t lost on him. Go figure the most polite conversation he had ever had with Edalyn was because of a curse.
Maybe he should have tried a different tactic with the youngest Clawthorne?
Too late to fix that now he supposed. =============
Any small hope for Eda that maybe her parents would take it seriously when she got home. And not try to toss it again under ‘something else’ didn’t last longer than five minutes after her mother got home.
“Clawthornes don’t get cursed.”
“But-” Eda began to try and protest. Absentmindedly scratching her wrists. While most of the pain had subsided with the potion Bump had given her, there were still some residual aches and pains from the transformation.
Just like last time in fact.
“End of discussion. I will not entertain this absolutely absurd discussion. Let alone the idea of taking you to a specialist.”
Eda scowled, not ready to back down without a fight. “If it's just a spell then why did it happen a second time?”
“I don’t know Edalyn, maybe someone thought they should continue the lesson.”
Eda opened her mouth to try and continue the argument. Only to have her mother disappear through the door, slamming it shut behind her.
“But I haven’t even done anything this past week.” Eda muttered to herself.
After the first idea of it being a curse had gotten into her head. She had decided to try and be better. The transformation had hurt! She hadn’t wanted to go through it again.
So as difficult as it had been she had hung up her pranking supplies. For now at least until whoever was angry with her cooled down.
If this really was because of a prank. Then someone was really vindictive was all she could say.
Either way whatever caused it wasn’t really the problem anymore. It was figuring out what to do next before the curse resurfaced a third time.
Normally she would have turned to Lily for guidance. But her sister was away at training. Meaning it was her against her parents. And she had no clue how to handle it from there.
It had always been them against the world. Even when that world sometimes included their own parents.
With the one person who may have understood their complex family dynamic gone. With her having no idea when she would see Lily again. She had no one to turn to.
Sure, Bump had once said that if she needed help to come to him. But this felt like a bit of a reach.
Maybe it was for the best to leave it alone for now. Maybe if it happened again her parents would take it seriously.
She knew that the likelihood of that happening was probably small, but what else could she even do at this point?
Her parents' reaction, while infuriating, was not entirely unexpected. And it was even less likely to change if her childhood was anything to go by. Since, if it was something that made the Clawthorne’s imperfect, then it was not to be acknowledged. Even if it impacted their own children.
And if there was anything that indicated an ‘imperfection’ it was having a curse on a child.
Titan knew how it had been a fight to get Lily her glasses. Eda couldn’t even begin to imagine how complicated things might be if this was something far more sinister than getting your sight corrected.
She guessed if she needed too she could try looking for care on her own. She was old enough now that she didn’t need her parents there at a healer’s appointment. But then again the fall out from going to a doctor when she didn’t have her own source of income.
Well it would be a mess.
Why did this have to be so complicated?

Part 10===Part 11===Part 12
“Alright Tae Bae, let’s see what’s going on with your system.”
In the time it had taken us to clean up after dinner, Taehyung had already set up everything he needed in order to communicate through remote video feed with his mentor.
I’d decided to join Taehyung and Jeanette in the security area of our basement living room, sliding in beside Jeanette on the overly large sofa and snuggling up beneath her blanket with a smile sent her way before focusing in on the conversation unfolding before us.
Tae was posted up on the floor, feet crossed in his lap and a large keyboard situated on top of his knees as his eyes roamed the information displayed on the massive tv hung on the wall. The screen itself flashed a myriad of information, lines of code and text along with a small set of squares at the bottom left corner that gave us a live view of the surrounding grounds and security checkpoints.
In the top left was a video feed of Black Rose, a sweet looking woman roughly my age whose smile lit up her whole face every time her eyes glanced back to what I assumed was Taehyung’s face displayed on her own screen. I couldn’t help but feel there was something more than the connection of mentor and apprentice between the two.
“I managed to trace the outside signal as far as the local area before I got cut off from it. Whatever it was that let them in was enough for them to feed my cameras a signal to loop come a certain time of day. That’s when the attack happened.” Taehyung frowned, glancing at the video image of the ashen haired woman and blushing brightly as he averted his gaze elsewhere.
“Sounds to me like they’ve been in your system before. Or are at least familiar with the type of code you were writing for it…”
I couldn’t help but glance over at Jeanette who seemed just as bewildered as I felt with all the technical jargon being thrown back and forth between them.
“Any idea what they’re saying?” I asked in an overly dramatic stage whisper.
Jeanette shook her head, blowing a bit of curly hair out of her eyes with a huff. “None in the slightest honestly. I’ve heard Jangmi talk like this before but it always goes way over my head.”
Tae snorted, his eyes darting to the two of us for a moment before focusing back in on his job. “Since I’ve got you here, could you run a backdoor screen for me? At least then I’ll know what I’m missing before we go whole hog on the fuckers.”
Black Rose shook her head, sighing lazily before typing quickly on her end. The sound of high speed clicking filled the speakers along with the sound of Taehyung’s own. The screen glowed a dark green color as line after line of letters and numbers and symbols flashed across it. Everything moved so fast that for a moment I grew dizzy just trying to keep up with it all.
Jungkook at that point wandered into the room, coming around the sofa to sit on its arm beside me and throw an extra long arm around my shoulders.
“Anything?” He asked, knowing that his words would interrupt Taehyung’s focus, he’d spoken in a low whisper just as Jeanette and I had.
“No clue to be honest, but damn if I wouldn’t be able to tell you anyway.” I glanced up at Kookie, blushing as he threw me a charming smile that, no matter how many times I’d seen it, still managed to make my insides flutter.
“Well let me see…” He looked over to the tv, eyes darting back and forth as he watched the words fly by.
“Every computer system, no matter how complicated, has a back door. They’re usually protected by something called a firewall, basically a shield the system has in place so your information can’t get stolen or your software can’t get hacked.” Jungkook’s fingers trailed along my shoulder, leaving trails of heat in their wake as he continued to watch the two computer geniuses work.
“What’s basically happening is Jangmi is attacking Tae’s firewall, trying to find any weaknesses in it to see how exactly the hackers got into our system.”
“HA!” A triumphant shout echoed through the speakers, jolting Taehyung out of his hyper focused stupor and causing him to stare at the screen in shock.
“Are you serious? That one line of god damn…”
“And here I thought I taught you well, little grasshopper. Such a shame that a tiny bit of code like that could cause such a massive amount of damage…” Black Rose hummed.
I couldn’t help but to watch in fascination as Taehyung basically melted down in front of us, rolling on the floor after discarding his keyboard and gripping his hair. He wailed like a little child, cursing and fussing and drawing full on belly laughs out of each of us as we watched him go on.
“One!! One goddamn misplaced comma...are you kidding me?” He groaned, reluctantly righting himself and pulling the keyboard into his lap once more.
“Well, fix it ya soggy noodle.” The woman paused, pulling a large cup into view and sipping from it before groaning in pleasure at the flavor of whatever her drink of choice was.
“I see you’re taking full advantage of the macchiato machine I got you.” Tae grunted, though his fierce typing belied the brief moment of a glance he’d made at her screen.
“Ya damn right I am.” Contrary to the accent she’d been speaking with, these words took on a distinctly New Yorker accent, one I’d only heard in movies and on youtube, but the change was so incredibly adorable I couldn’t help but giggle at her.
“I don’t uh...I don’t wanna interrupt but.” I glanced over to Tae who’s full attention was now on me.
“What is it Boss Lady?”
“Well, I’ve heard of like espresso machines but...a macchiato machine?”
Taehyung and Black Rose chuckled together, grinning a secret grin between the two of them.
“It’s not really like an espresso machine. Think of it like one of those industrial mixers you see in gas stations and stuff.” Tae typed into his keyboard, pulling up an image of the machine he mentioned. “It’s like a frozen yogurt machine but for macchiato mix.”
“It’s rather ingenious actually. All I had to do was get the right kind of mix and I’ve got all of my caffeine needs right here at my desk.”
“I prefer mine through a direct iv line.” A muttered voice spoke from behind the couch, drawing our attention to Yoongi who’d apparently been listening in on what we’d been talking over this whole time.
“Ah! A man after my own heart!” Black Rose grinned, giving Yoongi a thumbs up which he returned with a small smile in kind.
“Boss, we got an issue with Seokjin upstairs.” Yoongi frowned at Jungkook, though the look seemed to be more one of frustration than actual danger.
“What happened?” Jungkook stood, giving me a kiss to my forehead before heading back upstairs with Yoongi.
“Apparently his ‘second’ and I quote, ‘Is a no talent hack who couldn’t strip the paint off the broad side of a barn.”
“Overwatch?”
Yoongi sighed, “No, campaign mode on Halo…”
Taehyung snorted, returning his attention to the tv screen. “Alright. Let’s get that firewall fixed up and reverse track the signal.”
***
“Rose and Tae make a pretty incredible team huh?” Jeanette smiled softly as we watched the two work. We’d decided that speaking quieter gave us less of a chance of interrupting their focus as they worked.
“Yeah, But I kind of get the feeling there’s something between them. Don’t you?”
“Hmm…”
I’d known Tae for only a short time, he’d come to us only a few years ago. And even though it’d been going on nearly 4 years I still couldn’t help but notice that the young man hardly ever really smiled unless Jimin was around.
Of course it could have been because they were so close in age, but it seemed like he preferred to stay by himself. With his line of expertise and the type of work he did I ended up, well not really avoiding him so much as just giving him space. But he seemed to really appreciate it. We became close in our distance. And that was okay.
“Are you seriously eating gummy bears while you’re at your computer?” Tae snorted, shaking his head as he watched his partner sheepishly grin.
“Hey, the last time we worked together like this you fussed at me because I was eating seaweed snacks over my keyboard. I’ll have no more of you fussing at me you hear!”
The two laughed, seeming to enjoy egging each other on as they worked. It felt comfortable, and was definitely a side of Taehyung I’d never seen before.
“Any luck?” Jeanette asked. She cuddled further into the blanket, seeming on edge as she watched the interaction happen.
“Does East Side ring a bell?” Black Rose’s eyes wandered her screen, eyebrows furrowed and a small frown tugging at the corners of her lips.
“Yeah...actually it does.” I grunted, pushing further back into the comfort of the sofa.
“We were joined with them. A smaller branch of our main group that was in charge of keeping the East side of the city safe.Tension’s been high with them, even before all this mess came along.”
“I see. Well it seems like it was more than just tension.” Rose leaned back in her chair, iced coffee in hand as she pulled up an aerial view of the city for us all to see.
“This is satellite feed from a remote military camera that was monitoring the area a day ago. From the looks of things and going solely on the data I traced from Tae’s security hack, seems like these bastards have been plotting something for a while now.”
We watched intently as the feed zoomed in on the warehouse Kook, Yoongi, and I had run a rescue mission on not too long ago.
A group of people approached the front side of the building, busying themselves with something we couldn’t see while keeping a lookout for chatterers that happened to come their way. Rose accelerated the footage and we watched as, after moments more of fussing with whatever they were up to they retreated from the door.
“What the actual hell?” Tae whispered before yelping as a bright orange ball of what we could only assume was flames erupted at the door.
“So that’s how those things got in…” My body had tensed up at this point, anger pouring from me in waves as I leaned forward to glare at the tiny bodies pouring into the warehouse.
Rose cut the footage, a frown creeping onto her face as she glossed over what we now couldn’t see. “Looks like they made off with a bunch of stuff, some boxes and shit but dipped out before they could get overwhelmed. There’s no way anybody in there survived the wave of creepos that poured into the building after the fire settled.”
“Two of them survived...but not for very long.” I spat the words out bitterly, rising from the sofa and letting the blanket fall from my form as I began pacing behind the sofa.
Namjoon walked in, eyes following my every move as he walked around the sofa to sit in my place beside Jeanette, though he sat back at a respectable distance.
“I take it there’s bad news?”
Jungkook’s second in command was nothing if not astute and true to form; he'd gauged the atmosphere with no trouble.
“No oppa...shit news actually.”
I glanced over at him, eyes burning a hole into the back of his head despite the blush of red creeping up the back of his neck at the term of endearment.
“Well?” He turned to Tae, an eyebrow raised in question. But before the younger man could speak the sound of an explosion roared through the speakers, one so loud I could have sworn the ceiling above us rumbled along with the noise.
“What in the actual fuck?” I bolted over to the sofa, eyes wide as I scanned Rose’s video feed.
It seemed she’d been knocked out of view of the camera, which itself had been thrown from whatever stand she had set it up on and now lay on the ground. The only thing we could see was the trembling of the floor and a pale set of feet.
“Rose??? Rose can you hear me?” Jeanette had jumped from her seat, rushing over to the tv monitor and hastily scanning the live feed in the hopes of seeing her friend move.
“Shit...I’m okay...fuck...fucking god damn it what the hell?” A continued string of curses poured from the speakers as the feet finally began to move before disappearing from view.
Rose’s face finally came into focus as the camera lifted from the ground to focus on her dazed expression.”I don’t know what the hell that was but holy shit that fucking sucked donkey dick hole.”
“Bruh, the mouth on this woman I swear…” Namjoon shook his head, though the look of concern on his face never wavered.
“You good kid?” I asked, knowing the answer wouldn’t be pleasant.
“Yeah, though, the building I’m in probably isn’t.”
“Talk to me Jangmi, what happened?” Tae sat on his knees, seeming as if every inch of him was screaming to come to her defense.
“Well. From what my screens are telling me. Looks like those East Side assholes found me and are on their way up to my room.”
“Excuse me?” Jungkook had come down, surely drawn in by the commotion coming from the speakers that’d probably been heard all through the house. The others followed closely behind him, each wearing matching faces of either murder death stare or concern.
“I’m at the Daegu Grand Hotel. Have been for a while now. And like I said, from the looks of things the very people trying to get all of ya’lls shit are on their way up to greet me with a very impolite Korean gangster hello.”

Accidental Family Man Au
remember that one ask where I talked about some projects? This is one of them. Enjoy dad franky!
So it begins with Franky – a back alley repair in the illustrious mechanic city of Water 7 – a miracle engineering city, they call it, with intertwining roads of cars and rivers. Venice, if Venice was made of concrete and had a road system above its water system, twisting above houses and everything.
Franky used to be one of those engineers that created those miracles, but an accident later, and he’s the scourge of the city and half bionic, making his living in back alley repair shops where you either pay with cash or your life.
He never said he was a good guy, did he Ice Burg?
He still has connections though – and these connections lead to Iceburg, and to the Straw Hats.
Iceburg’s the mayor, of course, and while he doesn’t care much for his public image, he knows that if he starts accepting money from shady kids who showed up to his doorstep possibly covered in blood with a woman who he swears he’s seen before beside him, that maybe Water 7’s people will take a hit for harboring criminals.
But hey, He knows a guy already doesn’t he?
So he sends these kids and their broken van down to the Franky House to see if he would fix their beloved, broken, van.
The Straw Hats never reach it, because the woman (Robin) gets kidnapped and a fight breaks out, leading to the separation of the group,
So the story really begins with Franky and the little broken down RV called The Going Merry, previously belonging to the kid who’s standing in front of him, begging him to fix it.
More Hcs Below cut including actual dad Franky stuff lol
That kid is Usopp, and he’s asking because Franky’s the only repair man in the illustrious city of Water 7 that will possibly accept the cash that Usopp has to offer.
He doesn’t.
Instead, he attempts to kick the kid out and gets kidnapped in return.
Oops
So, Franky’s introduced to Ennies Lobby one of the worst places this side of the country – where people go and never come back, and hey, whats this kid doing kicking down the door?
Safe to say, Franky is rescued, and learns a little more of their story.
And Safe to say, Franky sees the woman they are going to save (him, and a bunch of teenagers and some 12 year old brat) and he near damn falls in love with her on sight and definitely does when he actually talks to her.
They save Robin, and start running – of course, Merry the van is just barely struggling to save all their added weight but they make it but also merry’s totaled.
So Franky shows them his pet project, The Thousand Sunny, supposed to be his super get away, home a way from home rv but with a few modifcations… the Straw Hat Gang has a new home. And a new crew member.
Franky learns everyone’s stories and about all the absolutely shady shit they are into. He learns he fits right in.
And then… then the moments start happening.
He helps Usopp fix up the Sunny, and teachers him about cars and such.
He and Chopper start bonding over bionics and medical shit that went into building his body.
Zoro and him geek out over comic heroes (this, at least in zoro’s part, is canon the big nerd.)
He helps Nami out with some headings and listens to her troubles.
Sanji and him go fishing one day and it’s the most surreal experience of Franky’s life because this teen is in a three-piece suit and catching giant fish out on the shore of some lake? What?
Franky gives Luffy advice and pulls him out of fights and shows him cool robot things.
And its two months in when Franky realizes – here is it actually typed out lmao
“In all honesty, Franky doesn’t know how it happens.
Well.
He has a vague idea.
(Can you save her? Please? Merry’s the best.)
But still – tracing the events that led up to him frantically calling Ice-for-brains at one am in the morning at a near abandoned gas station on the west coast was a hard task.
“Hello?”
Finally.
“Ice-for-brains,” He starts using the familiar name.
“Flunky? The hell? What are you calling me now?”
“Iceberg.” The use of his real name quiets him. He knows this is serious. Franky takes a deep breath, and exhales, saying the next words in a single breath. “I accidently became a dad to six crazy teenagers. Help.”
…
“Goddamnit bastard-berg this is no time to laugh!””
AND THEN HE GOES ON TO HAVE MORE DAD ADVENTURES INCLUDING:
Organizing the kids at Sabaody Park
being emotional support for all these kids trauma please world, give them a break
doing his best to say no to allowing luffy to swim with sharks but giving in anyway
being a component (aka fierce menacing bodyguard) in his daughter’s nami’s schemes
breaking up fights
Attempting to ground known criminals who may or may not be stronger than him
Modifying the RV so that they can have Brook and Jimbe on it as well
“MCDONALDS! MCDONALDS! MCDONALDS!”
Overthrowing the government in at least three different countries because his kids wanted to
Doing experiments with illegal fireworks on Usopp’s behest
“Do you want to play catch” “Franky that’s dynamite that we found in the stach what the fuck- “Do you want to play catch” “…Yes.”
Explaining Safe Sex to teenagers who have biggers worries such as the government
Teaching them all how to drive. He thinks hius heart has popped out of his chest.
Snoring loudly on their tiny couch and everyone just dogpiling on him
Also I had this in my notes
So that’s a thing that’s going to happen!
Uh anyway uh PART TWO – THE OTHER FCKING STRAWHATS
Note: Everyone is aged down three years from pre TS ages to enforce the fact that 1) the government is fucking nuts for assigning bounties to these kids in this au 2) give more dad moments as while we all need a dad in our lives at any age it gives me more plausible reason here 3) plot related issues and the fact that this story takes place over several years and 4) the image of a 14 year old taking down the government is hilarious to me.
So.
Moving on.
Luffy – 14 years old and an absolute bastard
Luffy grew up in the port city of Fuusha as a way for Garp to keep an eye on him because of his family connections and make sure nothing bad happened to him - didn’t quite work out.
dads a terrorist, his brothers a world class criminal, his gramps is an abusive piece of shit but also weirdly protective marine officer, his family’s complicated.
he grew up in the seedy underbelly of the city and made friends with a lot of criminals (who helped him get out because hey that five year old who used to steal our food is a brat and maybe we should help him get out before he becomes to chaotic (too late) and becomes our friend (also too late) )
Among these criminals are Shanks, who wanders through once in a while, Buggy, begrudging friend, Jimbe, because he has connections, Crocodile, because this brats a bastard, and Rayleigh, among others.
Annoys them to make him his friend, continues annoying them afterwards.
He just thinks they’re neat.
Luffy leaves two months after Ace, his brother under Dadan’s, the local gang leaders, roof, leaves because Ace can’t tell him to stay behind anymore
but the govt got word now he’s on the run – Coby helps him escape
As such, Luffy grows up with a very very skewed moral compass as in canon but a bit more, and now literally is almost ten times more feral as he should be.
His goal is now to do whatever he wants, without people telling him what to do or that he can’t do that – He’s going to be free, damnit.
Franky understands and learns over time to adjust his Parenting Skills accordingly
Zoro – 16 and illegally owning a motorcycle because he thought the best way to improve his skill was to go out and hunt down people to fight, and of course he needs a motorcycle to do that, doesn’t he?
He was pulled over for speeding then taken in for being underage
He is also caught up in some bad stuff (fight circles, bounty’s, etc. this kids 16 and breaking grown men’s spines.)
Then comes Luffy who was also arrested for dine and dashing and is in the back seat.
Luffy, who after the police car pulls over, punches out the police officer, unlocks Zoros cuffs and tells him “Drive”
So they drive
“Hey, hey Zoro. Join my crew. It’ll be fun.”
“Anything you say captain”
knows Luffy for three seconds and is immediately down to murder with him
Its great
He wants to become the greatest sword fighter still, which is still a thing in my fantasy modern world, so anyway, picture this 16 year old going up to you and tell you to fight but he has a sword in his mouth and in both hands and the most dangerous look in his eye.
He and Luffy immediately rob a sword shop to find him new swords after they meet, it becomes a thing later on where they will steal (horribly, they literally crash in through the window every time because they have no subtly) something small from each city they visit.
Nami - 15 year old pick pocket in the city where luffy and zoro stop, just trying to scrap up some money to pay off her family’s debt.
Bellmere’s still alive damnit.
Nami thought Zoro and Luffy were police originally (because they are driving around in stolen police car) and tried to pull the ‘oh officer help me’ card when the people she stole from chased after her
To her surprise, it was two kids her age in the front seat.
Luffy: “get in”
she gets in
they dont talk about it
The people who were chasing her was Buggy’s gang who Luffy waves at as he goes by
Buggy sends a message to Shanks which is essentially “hey that brat u liked is still alive”
And Shanks is like “oh thank god” not knowing the terror he has unleashed upon the world
A month later Arlong has mysteriously disappeared and the Bell-mere farm is flourishing while the second daughter becomes a world class criminal.
Bell’meres never been prouder and it gives Nojiko a great conversation starter.
Usopp’s 14 and lives in a trailer park called syrup alone
Has a business where he sells odd herbs and such, passing them off as anything that will get him some money – think of it as Toad Oil from Wano but with some popgreens and such mixed in.
His goal is get enough money to stand on his own and leave the park but its slow going. And then…
Luffy punches the heck outta the creep that was creeping on the owner of the park, kaya, and think’s Usopp’s stories are super cool.
Usopp wants to go with them, to explore the world With Luffy.
At this point, the Straw Hats have realized that driving a stolen police car around is a bad idea
so they take the huge van - a gift from Kaya named The Going Merry, and set off, using Nami’s stolen funds to get them by.
Sanji - 16 year old who longs to be a chef with the best food and just wants to feed people who need it
He hates government cause they don’t feed people and has a lot of petty grudges and helps Zeff run a lot of kitchens to help people.
He’s still the Sous chef of the Baratie and still has a penchant for kicking unruly customers around. Baratie has a less then stellar reputation for service but the food? The best in the land.
He feeds Luffy the food.
Luffy likes the food.
Luffy kidnaps Sanji
Zeff worries about it but he can’t do jack since he actually is not Sanjis legal guardian (he kidnapped the kid first on accident after they both were stranded. He still tries to call anyway, and is proud of the change his son is making in the world. He’s currently working to get suspicious government people off his back about his missing Sous chef with the unique curly eyebrow…
Anyway, Sanji becomes the cook for the strawhats and is really happy because everyone likes his food and he can help anyone along the way and send business to the baratie
Its a good deal for him, and with all the places he visits his skill grows as a chef.
Chopper - 12 year old prodigy who really wants to be a doctor but both his legal guardians are out of the way
Hiruluks dead and Kureha, against her will because she’s still beautiful at 100 dammnit, is in a nursing home trying to break out
Chopper has nowhere to go but still tries to pursue his medical career, and this fucking twelve year old does so by patching up people from bar and gang fights.
The Straw Hats pick him up and Usopp hacks into a govt control thing to sign him up for online medical course
Kureha’s proud and gives him a book of pressed cherry blossoms that was Hiruluk’s
He cries
Chopper gets lots of practice for medical stuff with Luffy and Zoro who like to fight in fighting rings just for the heck of it, and for the money that Nami wants.
Robin – 25 year old depressed archeologist (and assassin) they found in a mafia in the next country over (Vivi’s)
Crocodile’s running it, aka Luffy’s criminal uncle number 500
Luffy’s pissed about it and smacks him into the dust because it’s his friends country, and then drags Robin along because she needs to have some adventure, and hey, they are checking out the ruin’s next, wont that be cool?
So robin comes along as the ‘adult super vision’, at least in Nami and Usopp and Chopper’s mind.
She learns that these kids have some how been able to dodge school, and starts teaching them the basics of what they would need to know, and then any thing else they want to know. (Zoro, she finds, is extremely good at math while Sanji enjoys chemistry. Nami and Usopp catch on quick, while Chopper has his own studies already but enjoys talking to her. Luffy dislikes learning, but if the promise of pirates or foods or letters that wont spin in his head is involved, he’ll gladly sit down for a bit. He especially loves the stories however.)
Robin finds herself inching dangerously into mom territory, and accepts it whole heartedly after meeting Franky, who she finds handsomely hilarious.
She has a shady past but is slowly opening up about it, and knows she will watch the world burn for this crew.
Y’all know about Franky already so im gonna move on.
Brook – super fucking Old musician they found on the street looking for his dog Laboon
He used to be a star but lost his fame but doesn’t care – he only wants to make people happy with his music.
Luffy just straight up just drags him into the sunny, its becoming a habit of him kidnapping people, that’s not how you make friends Luffy (or at least it shouldn’t be – he always seems to make it work.)
Everyone just goes with it at this point while Franky sighs and triie sto figure out how to make a giant RV even bigger
The Crew find out his dog is living in luffy’s home town and used to play with Luffy when his friends weren’t around. They vow to go back once everything dies down, but in the mean time Dadan gets a new guard dog in her house hold
Usopp posts one (1) video of Brook (on Halloween in skeleton make up) and he instantly becomes a revived star, thriving on the mytery of the Skeleton Soul King.
He now posts videos from around the world of him singing but its impossible to predict where he will be next, and he’s invisible with out his make up to the internet, so its good for the whole criminal thing.
Jimbe
(best) Criminal uncle 501
No one knows exactly how he knows luffy beyond luffy himself but they are 90% sure its something to do with the underground warlord system that Luffy has connections too
He gives the best hugs, Uncle Iroh but without the well-meaning manipulation.
He’s tired of responsibility that he has in his underground position and kinda wants to fuck off to the Caribbean but then he meets luffy again and is like this is better
He Leaves the fishman gang behind with subordinate in charge and joins strawhats
He becomes stressed - “Why did you choose an archeologist and a man who wears speedos for adult supervision, how are you alive, do you need a hug, do you know basic math, have you even gone to school, oh thank god Robin is here - ”
Two minutes later
“Do you have code names, can I have one,”
He’s a big faker the dummy everyone can see right through you, you’re aren’t on this crew if you have common sense

All That Silence Said
AN: I am so amazed by the feedback and response I got to The Sound of Silence, honestly guys it just means so much to be that everyone has enjoyed it. This is the second part of the story and I hope you enjoy it. I won’t be writing anything for the next few weeks as I’ll be at home visiting family without my laptop but I’ll be uploading soon.
Mute AU
Brienne could sense the nervous tension in Jaime as they walked through the Red Keep. She had heard the stories, legends and myths surrounding Tywin Lannister and although she had never met him; she could tell there were truths intertwined with the myths. Jaime kept his little finger tightly looped around hers and she could feel his hand tremble slightly. He didn’t seem like the boastful, arrogant Lannister she had met, rather he seemed like a little boy, worried about getting in trouble. It stirred her resolve. She would speak for them both and she would not be intimidated by or kowtow to Tywin Lannister.
She faced a bear armed with only a wooden sword.
She would not tremble before the lion.
When they entered the room, Brienne looked at Tywin; tall, slim and carrying the arrogance and honour that came from the Lannister name. His eyes were apprehensive, the mind scheming and plotting behind them as he took in their haggard appearance; Jaime’s scruffy hair and beard; their filthy clothes, he barely cast a look in Brienne’s direction. All of his attention was focused on Jaime.
“What took you so long?” Tywin asked in a cold, yet commanding voice. Clearly he had expected Jaime returned to the capital months ago.
Jaime looked at his father. He crossed his wrists together, as if bound before he shook his head, opened his lips and dragged his finger across them in a single, swiping motion.
We were captured. They cut out my tongue.
“Speak boy,” Tywin ordered and Jaime glanced at Brienne; he still had apprehension in his eyes as she stepped forward.
“Jaime cannot speak; one of your men cut out his tongue when they captured the two of us.” Brienne explained and Tywin looked at her for the first time.
“And who exactly are you?” Tywin asked, although he could hazard a guess. The few witness reports he had of his son mentioned the tall woman in armour accompanying him.
“Brienne of House Tarth, I was Catelyn Stark’s sworn sword, ordered to being Ser Jaime back to the capital in exchange for her daughters. I am aware it is no longer possible.” Brienne replied calmly. They had heard the news one night when they had stopped in a tavern; they were still close enough that a few of the voices whispered their disgust at such a slaughter, especially at a wedding.
“Indeed; the younger Stark girl has not been seen since her father’s execution; Sansa Stark has married my son Tyrion.” Tywin replied as he pushed forward a quill and a scroll of parchment. “You might not have a tongue but you have both of your hands. Write.”
Jaime glanced at Brienne and glared at the parchment and scroll. He had always struggled with reading and writing; the letters would move around the page and he could spell the words in his head but never when they were formed by his hand. He did however, have one question for his father, one he was struggling to think of the actions for.
What will hapen to me now? Jaime scrawled on the parchment and pushed it to Tywin. If Tywin noted the misspelt word, for once he did not comment on it.
“You cannot remain in the Kingsguard. You can’t give your king the warning of an attack, or give orders to your men. I will speak with the king and you will be respectfully withdrawn from service. You will take my place as my son and heir and we will find you a bride.” Tywin explained; of course he had it all planned out. Tywin Lannister always had everything planned out.
Jaime wished he could speak; that he could rant, yell, swear and shout. He had spent months in captivity, travelled the length of Westeros, been captured, had his tongue removed, almost died several times and now that he had returned; what had he returned to? He would be removed from the Kingsguard, forced to take the role in life he had never wanted to take; lordship, marriage, heirs. Maybe it was foolish for him to have hoped for the slightest sign of care and consideration from his father.
Brienne had removed her finger from his when they had entered the room. She now linked it around her own again and turned her hand so that she was stroking the back of it with her thumb. With her other hand, she held it flat against her chest and pushed it downwards.
I’m here with you. Calm down.
Jaime nodded at her and unlinked their fingers. He looked at Tywin again and pressed his fingers to his chin and held it outwards to him. It was his own show of defiance. He would not write, only sign.
Thank you.
“You will need a bath,” Tywin said finally. “You still have your bedchamber.”
With that, Tywin opened the door and ordered one of the men standing outside to fetch a servant who would arrange a bath for Jaime. Upon the servant’s return, Jaime nodded at Brienne and left the room. He would find her later, hopefully unlike him, she would be in one piece. When the door slammed shut behind Jaime, Tywin fixed his attention on Brienne.
“You’re Selwyn Tarth’s daughter.” It wasn’t a question. He knew exactly who she was, about her House, her homeland, her suitability for his son.
“Yes, I am.” Brienne replied, not that Tarth was anything too special. Well, it was to her at least. It wasn’t one of the large, powerful houses or lands, however it was one of the best ports and places for trade with Dorne, Essos, Mereen, even as far away as Yi Ti.
“Tarth has declared neutrality in this war; how is it that the Evenstar’s only child and heir was sworn to the Starks?” Tywin asked and Brienne kept his gaze. She still did not see what was so intimidating about him. She knew of his power, of his plots and schemes, yet he did not intimidate her. He did not frighten her. They both knew that if anything, he owed her. She had returned Jaime to him; alive, if not fully well. Tywin Lannister owed her a debt.
And a Lannister always paid his debts.
“I was part of Renly Baratheon’s guard; after his death, I helped Lady Stark return to her son. I was sworn to protect her, not to the Starks. Protecting one person does not mean I protect or stand with them all. As of her death, I am sworn to no one and I respect my House’s neutrality. I want no sides in this war.” Brienne replied carefully. Although not one of her preferred lessons, she knew how to play politics. How to say the right thing in the right tone. How to play her part in the game.
“And my son,” Tywin prompted and still Brienne held his gaze. “You understand those actions he makes?”
“I do, he rescued me from a bear pit in Harrenhall when your ally Roose Bolton had me flung into it. Despite his inability to speak, we were able to communicate by developing a signing language. He is my friend,” Brienne explained before adding the next two words. “Nothing more.”
Tywin contemplated her words in silence for a moment before he spoke. “Then I thank you for returning my son to me. I owe you a debt. For now, you may stay in the Red Keep and serve as his interpreter.”
“Thank you,” Brienne said; they both knew he was making it sound like an assignment. Like he could control her, make her spy on Jaime and report back to him. It was actually a pitiful sign to her that Tywin held no interest in learning how to understand Jaime’s signing. To him, Jaime was perfect this way. A silent son couldn’t contradict, criticise or complain; three things Tywin loathed above all else.
For the second time, Tywin got a guard to arrange for a handmaiden, a bedchamber and a bath for Brienne. As she scrubbed weeks of dirt and filth from her skin, Brienne wondered how Jaime was going to cope. The two of them had built a strong knowledge and understanding on the road together; now that they were back with the rest of his family, they would have to begin again. His father had already refused to learn, she had to wonder how Cersei and Tyrion would react.
As it turned out, Cersei was able to outdo Tywin’s ignorance by completely ignoring Jaime. He had tried to visit her, yet she refused to see him. She had already been informed of his lack of tongue and she was repulsed and disgusted by him. Tyrion, on the other hand was proving his worth as the most decent Lannister by at least trying to understand him. Even if he couldn’t get all of the signs right.
“Let me try;” Tyrion said as he pointed to himself, pointed to his nose and dragged his middle finger down his arms three times.
I smell toilet.
Brienne tried to bite back a smile as Jaime grinned and opened his mouth in a silent gesture of the laughter he would have been making. Tyrion shook his head and sighed. “What did I say?”
“You said that you smell like a toilet.” Brienne replied and repeated the gesture of dragged the middle finger of her right hand down her left hand three times. “This sign means toilet.”
“At least I’m trying,” Tyrion argued as even Sansa gave a shy smile as she measured Brienne’s arm span. After their slightly awkward first meeting, Sansa had offered to make Brienne some clothes that would be suitable for her size. Although Brienne was reluctant in the young girl’s ability; she supposed it was better than nothing. Plus, anything that gave Sansa Stark a positive focus after the death of her mother and brother was fine by Brienne. “Has Father spoken to you any further about this marriage?”
Jaime frowned and shook his head. He made a cross with his arms in front of his face and twisted his hand around his ring finger twice.
I refuse to marry.
“You don’t want to get married?” Tyrion asked and Jaime glared and repeated the cross motion again.
I refuse.
“You won’t marry?” Tyrion guessed and Jaime nodded. Close enough. “You can try but Father will see this through. He might give you a choice, considering you’re the golden son. Do you think you’ll have a say in the matter?”
Jaime pulled a face and gave his smirking brother the middle finger. One of the few signs that was universal and needed no translation.
As the days passed; Jaime and Brienne began to settle into a new routine in the Red Keep. Now that Jaime had been formally dismissed from the Kingsguard; he and Brienne spent a lot of their time sparring and fighting. When they weren’t sparring, they were either practising their signing or teaching it to Tyrion and Sansa. Although Sansa was learning quickly, Tyrion was still stumbling over even some of the most basic signs and reliant on Brienne to translate for him. Jaime couldn’t deny that he was pleased that there was at least one area wherein he was cleverer than Tyrion. The rest of Jaime’s family remained distant and were either unable or unwilling to communicate with Jaime.
Tywin ignored anything Jaime did unless it was written on paper. Cersei maintained her stance on outright ignoring him. Tommen was unsure of how to react and kept as quiet as Jaime. Joffrey thought the whole situation was hilarious and spoke as if Jaime was deaf as well as mute. At least he did until Joffrey made a derogatory comment about Brienne that turned her cheeks scarlet with humiliation.
Jaime didn’t sign or write anything. Instead he stared Joffrey in the eye and drew his sword from its scabbard before raising his eyebrows testily at him. The point was made clear and Joffrey cowered back. He knew what happened to kings that angered Jaime. Yet once Joffrey had scuttled off to hide behind Cersei’s skirts, Jaime turned and kicked the wall in frustration. Hs lips were mouthing words that he couldn’t say, his face screwed up with the emotions that he couldn’t verbalize. Brienne knew that if he could speak, he would have been ranting and yelling at the top of his lungs.
Jaime stopped kicking the wall and instead leaned against it. His face was still screwed up, he was forcing himself not to cry as he made one gesture. He signed crowning himself and slitting his throat before pointing to himself.
Kingslayer. I’m the Kingslayer.
Brienne tilted his chin up with her right hand and made a sign with her left. She held out the index and thumb of her left hand before using them to point to herself, at Jaime and herself again.
Jaime. You are Jaime.
Jaime wiped his eyes and Brienne put her arms around him. She hadn’t meant to hug him but he seemed so helpless, devastated and alone. She had felt those feelings before and had no one to show comfort, that they cared. Brienne knew that she had made the right choice when Jaime latched onto her with the force of a drowning man clinging to his salvation and buried his head in her neck. Brienne tightened her hold on him and tracing circles on his back to reassure him and calm him down.
Jaime felt tears slip from his eyes and tried to wipe them on Brienne’s shoulder without her noticing. He was never more pleased with her decision to stay in the capital; he had no idea how he would have coped without her at his side. She was the only one who could physically understand him, the only one who could speak for him when even his own signing failed him. Sometimes, it was as if she could see into his head, like she could hear the words he was screaming in his mind and able to say them for him. She was the closest and truest friend that he had ever had. And yet, she had no idea how much he appreciated her. Even now, just being with him, offering that strong, silent support, he didn’t just feel like she was calming him down. Being held in her arms, felt like home.
As Jaime stepped back from the hug, he looked at Brienne and attempted a smile as he held his hand to his chin and held it out.
Thank you.
The hug seemed to unlock a door between them. Until that point, physical contact between them had been limited to linked fingers or rare touches on the hand or arm. Now physical contact came easier to the both of them. Neither of them had been particularly tactile people before but now it felt as natural as signing. They would lean against the other when sitting, hands would naturally reach out and hold the other’s when walking, each conversation at the end of the night ended with a hug and Jaime signing sweet dreams at her. Their daily fighting and training became more of a dance between them and if one helped the other up from a fall or knock to the ground, they held on for a moment or two longer than they should have.
Just a moment. Or two.
The thought struck Jaime one afternoon when he and Brienne had joined Tyrion and Sansa in their chambers. Sansa had made Brienne a dress to wear for the wedding and she was eager to see Brienne in it and any possible changes she could make. The thought had struck Jaime when Brienne had stepped out from behind the screen; not because she was wearing a dress made of deep sapphire blue which highlighted her eyes and was tailored to flatter her body, but it was the look in her eyes. A look that he had never seen in her eyes before. Jaime knew she felt beautiful in the dress; something he knew that she had never felt before. Jaime felt a rush of affection, more intense than he had ever felt before and a thought struck him.
He wanted Brienne to have that look in her eyes every day. He never wanted her to doubt that she was beautiful ever again. Because she was beautiful. She was the most beautiful woman in the world to him; not just in her looks but in her heart and soul too. She was compassionate, kind hearted, brave, loyal, intelligent, and witty and the realisation hit him as forcefully as a brick to the head.
How had he not realised it before?
He was in love with Brienne of Tarth.
“It’s wonderful Sansa,” Brienne said truthfully as she admired the dress in the mirror. Instead of trying to show a femininity that didn’t exist, like other seamstresses had attempted in the past, Sansa had chosen to make the dress sleeveless, showing her arms and coming in slightly at her hips before falling into a full skirt that moved easily as she walked. It didn’t bare her bust like other dresses or cling to places it shouldn’t cling, it was the sort of dress she imagined when she indulged in rare fantasies. Ones where she was a beauty and could wear a dress with ease.
“Thank you,” Sansa replied. “I thought the loose skirt would be better for moving or dancing, like when you’re fighting, you wear looser clothing.”
“I think it would,” Brienne said as she held out the skirt, feeling the smoothness of the material against her fingers. Brienne looked at Jaime and Tyrion, who had been carefully quiet in their discussion before she pointed at them with two fingers and tapped her temple with the same two fingers.
What do you think?
“You look marvellous Lady Brienne,” Tyrion replied verbally, not trusting himself to sign the wrong thing. Brienne looked at Jaime who smiled at her before pretending to swoon dramatically onto the bed. Jaime sat up and with his right hand, traced a circle across the edge of his face twice. One word, one sign that he’d never used before, not to Brienne, not about Brienne.
Beautiful.
Brienne smiled softly and pressed her hand to her chin and held it out, thanking him, before returning back behind the screen to change into her clothes. She tried to not think too much about Jaime’s response. She did feel that she looked beautiful in the dress and Jaime had started to playact with his signing; especially when expressing his emotions he chose to be more comical and overdramatic unless he was genuinely frustrated or upset. Things had started to change between them. Brienne wasn’t sure how to describe it; they were close friends, of that she was certain. Although it was also possible that they weren’t just close friends anymore.
Later that evening, Jaime led Brienne out into the gardens for a walk. The sun was beginning to sink below the horizon as they wandered through the water gardens towards the worn out steps that led down to a small cove of Blackwater Bay. As they walked across the pebble cove, Jaime glanced nervously at Brienne. He had been thinking about this all day, although if he was honest with himself, this thought had existed in the back of mind since he had returned to the capital and was informed that he was going to be married. It had been a reckless thought then; now he was certain of nothing else but this.
Brienne could tell that there was something weighing heavily on his mind. She signed his name but Jaime just gave her a reassuring smile before he wandered down to the water’s edge. Jaime picked up a pebble and attempted to skim it across the waves. Brienne smiled and did the same, taking the time to choose a suitable stone and flicking it with the right amount of force to send it skipping across the waves. Jaime grinned at her before he pointed back up the direction they had come from. Brienne turned to look at where he had pointed but couldn’t see a thing.
“I don’t see anyth-“ Brienne trailed off as she turned back to Jaime to see him knelt down on one knee on the pebbles. They were close enough to the edge of the water that the waves were ebbing and flowing over their shoes and Jaime’s knee. “What is this?”
Jaime took a deep breath and he held her hands in his. He set Brienne’s hands over his heart before turning her hands back towards her.
My heart is yours.
Jaime then let go of her right hand and kept a hold of her left hand. He traced his finger over her ring finger twice before pointing to himself.
Marry me.
“You want me to marry you?” Brienne asked and Jaime nodded, placing her hand over his heart again.
My heart is yours.
“Your heart is mine?” Brienne guessed and Jaime nodded again. He placed one finger to his temple and pointed to his heart before pointing at her. One finger at the temple translated as I feel.
I love you.
Brienne’s eyes widened at that. She knew that things had been changing between them, she hadn’t dared to even dream or hope that they would be changing like this. That they would have these feelings for each other. Had they been there all along or had they found them along the way; their experiences bringing them together instead of tearing them apart? She wasn’t sure, the only thing she knew for certain was that this was real. This wasn’t a joke or a cruel trick. She could see the anxiety in Jaime’s eyes; she hadn’t given him an answer, he wasn’t sure if she felt the same. He knew that she was afraid that this was an attempt to mock her, to make fun of her.
Jaime held three fingers to his temple and set them over his heart again.
I know I love you.
Brienne mimicked his actions, setting three fingers to her temple before setting them over her heart.
I know I love you.
Jaime beamed at her and with his fingers trembling nervously, he traced his finger over her ring finger and pointed to himself.
Will you marry me?
Brienne grinned at him and nodded her head. She took his left hand and nodded as she traced two circles around his finger.
Yes, I will marry you.
Brienne helped Jaime to his feet and they wrapped their arms around each other, hugging over another tightly. Brienne could feel Jaime’s lips against her cheek. He wasn’t trying to kiss her, he was mouthing words. Brienne moved back so she could see him; Jaime looked at her and mouthed the words again. Although it was slightly unclear, Brienne knew what he was saying.
“I love you too,” Brienne said, gently cupping his face in her hands. Jaime closed the gap between them and pressed his lips to hers. Brienne kissed him back and in that moment, nothing else existed. Nothing else mattered.
It was them against the world. It always had been and it always would be.

hp au twitter thread
in which when yuuri is still in school he gets involved with the bad crowd and ends up a follower of a dark lord, whose main agenda is ruling over the world and bringing dark magic to its former glory.
yuuri doesn't hate dark magic, he's fairly proficient, but he's far from being able to harm another person with malice. he's a great duelist tho, so he quickly becomes one of the leaders of the dark lord's inner circle. japan falls, then china, korea, all of asia. they triumph. and so the dark lord sets his eyes on russia -- their nearest neighbour.
while they campaign at the border, during a skirmish with the light community there, yuuri meets HIM. they're on the opposite sides of this battle, but yuuri thinks they might be one at heart, because while they duel none of their spells are lethal. yuuri takes a hex to the leg, he sends a curse to his shoulder, but it's clear that they are more than evenly matched.
yuuri can't help but admire the other wizard. his long silver hair blows in the wind and colours with the light of every spell that silently leaves his pale wand with the force of shooting stars that yuuri sees in his eyes. other spells fly around them, but in those moments yuuri can't help but stop and clutch his wand harder, because this is not what he wanted to do with his life. fighting, duelling, this was never his dream. he wanted to create spells, to give himself to knowledge, and yet...
he gets a curse right into his chest.
he falls back into the muddy ground, gasping for breath. there's a bleeding gash there, but it isn't deep. yet another reminder that the other doesn't want to hurt him.
yuuri hears him come closer, sees him crouch next to him, feels the tip of his wand press against his neck.
"I will let you live if you stop," the man says.
yuuri thinks of the dark lord, his family that would die should he betray him, and he laughs.
"do you think it's that easy?"
the smile he gets in return surprises him. it's sad, pitying, and something unfurls in yuuri's heart.
"I know it isn't," the man says before yuuri can decide what he's feeling. "but would you want to, if you could?"
yuuri looks into his eyes. the man who's more than his equal is, in fact, the most beautiful human yuuri has ever seen. even despite the dried blood on his face.
"but I can't," yuuri says.
and then he grabs his wrist, pulls hard, and rolls them over so that he can thrust his wand into the man's face.
"obliviate."
the man goes slack as yuuri withdraws the memory of their meeting from his mind, only to leave him there. alone, in the mud.
he thinks that's it. he hopes. but he sees him again. and again. and again. at every raid, the man with silver hair comes to find yuuri, duels with him, wins, and yuuri uses all the tricks he has to erase his memory.
but that only helps as much. his own memories are intact.
it becomes a habit to seek the head of silver among the light wizards, to make his way through the battlefield towards him, to fight him with all he has only to end up losing. oddly enough, yuuri finds some enjoyment in it. even more in the snippets of conversation they share.
but then, one day, the enjoyment is replaced by something else. something more. because that day, yuuri sees him fall.
and his heart falls with him.
he doesn't think twice before he races down the hill to where he saw the silver hair blow back as the man falls, blood spilling onto his fur-lined robes. yuuri drops to his knees next to him, murmurs all the healing spells he knows, and it helps. the cut is nasty, but it heals.
there will be consequences, yuuri knows this even when the clouded blue gaze traces the lines of his profile. there will be consequences, yuuri knows as he touches his wand to a silver temple and casts a sleeping spell. there will be consequences, yuuri knows as he lets him live.
and there are.
yuuri screams under the wand of his master, promises to fix his mistake, cries and sobs later while his body aches. but the feeling in his heart, well. it's light. it's lighter than anything he's felt before. so he protects the small flames of hope, of life, of love, with all his might. and then... then he meets him again. it's like a part of yuuri's heart has transferred to him during the brief minutes of his healing, but it's undeniable.
and he isn't the only one who feels it.
"why did you save me?" the man asks, wand pointing to the ground.
yuuri hasn't dropped his, but no spells were cast between them.
"I don't know," yuuri replies, honestly. "it just felt like the right thing to do."
"why, then? why hurt others? am I so different than them?"
the man waves a hand in a broad gesture and yuuri lowers his guard when he takes a look around him. wizards are dying everywhere he stops his eyes. light and dark, all for one madman's gain.
"we can't stop him," yuuri says. he meets blue eyes. "I can't. no one can."
"we can try."
yuuri's heart aches, longs, but his reason is stronger still. "what use is trying when I know we will fail?"
the man doesn't answer for long. he walks closer, so close that yuuri can smell him.
"if we stand together, we have a chance. please, stay with us."
yuuri opens his mouth to argue, but the man takes his hand. yuuri's fingers are gnarled with tension, but the other hand is warm. slowly, yuuri's fingers uncurl, slide into the warm, open hand that holds him.
"stay with me," the man asks.
"i can't," yuuri says, closing his eyes as they fill with tears. "my family... they will die for this. I have to-- I have--"
he rips away, barely able to breathe. he turns his back on his worst enemy, and freezes when he catches him directly in his arms.
"don't go," the man begs. "we will find a way. we'll rescue your parents, your friends, and then--"
"can you rescue the whole nation?" yuuri asks, looking into the night sky.
a star winks and falls. yuuri closes his eyes and makes a wish that he knows will never come true.
"I can't, but--"
"what's your name?" yuuri interrupts him.
"what? why would you ask that now?"
"I want to know. please."
the arms around yuuri tighten. "it's victor."
"victor... thank you."
"for what?"
"for trying." yuuri pulls away from victor's arms. "I will do my best."
"your best? at what? I don't understand--"
"my name is yuuri," yuuri tells him instead. "I will see you again, victor. in this life or the next."
the wide blues eyes are the last thing yuuri allows himself to see of victor before he stuns him and apparates away.
yuuri has never been good at planning. he was the passionate type, always. he did things first, then thought and regretted them later. not this time.
months of careful planning, of plotting and seducing and making connections and allies and friends, have brought fruit. the inner circle of four generals of death stood surrounded by the dark lord's followers. the portkeys that meant to transport them have been rigged, destinations changed in secret. the three generals apart from yuuri have been caught and imprisoned, replaced by polyjuiced fakes. armies of european light wizards’ coalition waited for them, ready to contain the dark lord's forces as soon as they would apparate in.
and the dark lord knew nothing.
but, oh, how naive it was of yuuri to think that.
the moment they apparated in, he realized the mistake. this wasn't the place they needed to be in. this... this was hell. this was his punishment.
he watched his friends fall as the dark lord triumphed again. and there, surrounded by his former comrades, now turned enemies, yuuri turned around and faced the dark lord.
he didn't stand a chance. of course not. but the dark lord was arrogant. he didn't kill him with his first spell, not his second or third, no. he liked to play. so he played, and tore yuuri apart at his leisure. a cut here, a curciatus curse there, a blood boiling hex later.
just as yuuri's screams turned into howling and his thoughts into mindless prayers for death, the pain stopped. through hazy with agony eyes, yuuri could see white, white and brown and...
and silver.
silver of the hair of the man who now stood between him and the dark lord.
yuuri wanted to stop him, to shout and scream at victor to run away, but his throat was too sore. he couldn't speak, couldn't move -- not with how badly wounded he was. all he could do was watch victor duel the dark lord, while his heart hurt more than it had during torture.
yuuri watched how victor kept up with the dark lord, how he stood between them fiercely and protectively, and then he watched how he began loosing ground, how bit by bit the dark lord's smirk returned to his face. and so, finally, yuuri watched how victor limped and fell and--
groping half-blindly for his wand, yuuri pushed himself up with the last effort of his body. the dark lord's wand was already raised, the killing curse at the tip of his tongue, yuuri is sure. victor's eyes met yuuri's over the distance and victor smiled as if it was his last.
yuuri has never used it purposefully in his entire life, not once, despite having cast it several times. but this time... this time he did so with his entire heart in it. he lifted his wand, lifted his eyes to the dark lord's back, and said:
"avada kedavra."
two bodies fell to the ground at the same time.
yuuri's breathing was harsh and desperate, and his grip on his wand loosened when blood begun pouring out of him faster, as if to make sure he doesn't see more of this madness.
but the dark lord was dead. and so, yuuri was free.
he didn't think he'd wake up, but he has. to a white ceiling, white sheets, a bed in a hospital. and to a head of silver hair resting against the sheets. victor, silly, wonderful victor, who fell asleep in the chair right next to yuuri's bed.
tears fill yuuri's eyes. he fights against his body to lift his arm and gently touch victor's head. he could've whispered 'rennervate' as well, because victor bolts awake at once. blue eyes meet yuuri's and victor's mouth drops open.
they don’t speak for a moment, just look at each other. and it's enough.
"you killed him," victor says at last. "it's over. we won."
"his followers?" yuuri asks in a voice scratchy with disuse. victor helps him get a drink of water, before he answers: "caught, imprisoned. gone. we're safe now. we've won. and it's all thanks to you."
yuuri smiles.
"no. it's all because of you. if we never met..."
"will you please do something for me then?" victor quickly asks. "to repay me, if you will."
"anything," yuuri promises before he even hears it, and it makes victor smile.
victor's hand takes yuuri's. their fingers slide together.

For Those Below Ch 1
Wild Heart Part 3
Kyle Brooks, unable to reach either Warren and Ben, has a bad feeling that something has happened to them. His search for answers reveals a witches plot to get revenge against The Grey Lords. Kyle and Mercy have to team up to rescue Ben, who has been taken as leverage while the rest of the pack is out of reach.
AU in the Mercy-verse
Rated T - please mind the tags
Kyle is a BAMF, and no one can tell me otherwise.
Read on AO3
As soon as Kyle Brooks leaves the courtroom, he looked at his missed calls and texts. He loosens his red Ferragamo tie as he pulls up the missed call from Warren, his werewolf lover and mate. He'll check the four texts from Ben, the British werewolf that had become very dear to both of them over the last few years, as soon as he's talked to his mate. He presses the first speed dial and Warren picks up after two rings.
"Hey there Sexy Cowboy, what are you wearing?" he asks by way of greeting. Warren is tall, lanky, rugged and 100% pure Texas, which thrills Kyle to his Gucci loafers.
"Hm.. as much as I'd like to answer that, Darlin', I'm in mixed company," he replies with his sweet Texas twang, all loose vowels and soft consonants. It's code for werewolf business is going down and I can't say anything. The smile on Kyle's face drops off.
"You okay, love?"
"Right as rain. I'll call you soon, okay?"
"Please do. Oh! Before you go, is Ben with you? He texted me and I haven't had a chance to read them yet."
"Naw, he's working on his car," which was code that Ben was with Mercy.
"Thanks, baby. I love you. Be careful."
"Will do. Love you, too, Darlin'."
Warren hangs up with a click and Kyle quickly opens Ben's texts.
10:28 am
Kyle, Warren said to tell you that he has to go out to Uncle Mike's. He knows I'm not his f*ck*ing messenger boy, right?
10:28 am
Nvm told him myself. He flipped me off I'm so proud
I'm being sent over to Mercy's f*ck*ing garage to keep an eye on her fyi
11:02 am
Something happened & Adam told her to stay put & now she's pissed about it. she keeps FIXING CARS in my direction like it's my bloody fault
11:17 am
send help. she's threatening to s*dd*ing teach me how to change an oil filter for my own good. I know s*d all about cars. . call me when you get out of court
Kyle looks at the time and sees that it's 11:47 then presses his second speed dial to get Ben's phone. It goes to voicemail.
"Ben, it's Kyle. I'm sorry I didn't call back in time to save you from Mercy, darling. If you come greased up to the house tonight I'll ask you to change MY oil, too," he says with a laugh and blows a kiss into the phone for extra effect before he hangs up.
At two he finishes writing a brief and realizes that he still hasn't heard from either Warren or Ben. He sends a text to both of them asking if they're ok and goes back to work.
A knock at his door pulls him out of his research on a case he isn’t sure he can win, and he looks up to see his secretary poke her head in his office, her coat and purse in her hand.
“Mr. Brooks, I’m about to head out, is there anything you need before I go?”
“It’s five-thirty already? No, I’m good. See you tomorrow,” he says as he fishes his phone out from under a stack of papers. He waves as she closes the door and heads home. He checks his phone and there’s nothing from either Ben or Warren. Concern grips his chest and he dials Warren. It goes straight to voicemail.
“Hey, babe, I haven’t heard from you or Ben. I hope you two are all right. I know you might be out by the reservation and not get this immediately. Call me as soon as you get this. I love you,” he says after the beep and hangs up. It’s not completely out of the ordinary that he can’t reach Warren so he quells the momentary panic. He could very well be in wolf form, or out of range, especially if he was out near the Fae reservation. Technology didn’t work reliably out there, so it could just be nothing.
Ben, on the other hand was more worrying. He hit the call button and heard it ring until it goes to voicemail and starts speaking at the beep.
“Benjamin, I’ve been expecting a call back. I haven’t heard from either you or Warren and I’m getting worried. I know how much of a trouble magnet Mercy is, so please let me know you’re okay. Right. Talk to you later, darling. Bye.”
He looks at the scattered papers on his desk and sorts everything neatly so he can get a fresh start in the morning. He’s too distracted to do any more work for the night, so he might as well go home. He plays with his phone, and makes the decision to call Adam’s place. Someone is always there and maybe they know what’s going on. He finds the contact number for the house phone and dials. After three rings, someone picks up.
“Hello, Hauptman residence,” a young female voice says over the line.
“Hi, it’s Kyle, is this Jesse?”
“Kyle! Hi! How are you? Yeah, it’s me,” she replies happily as she recognizes Kyle’s voice, “Are you looking for my dad or Warren?”
“Hi honeypie, I’m so happy to hear your voice. I’m looking for Warren, or even Ben. Are they there?”
“No, Dad and Warren had something they had to do at Uncle Mike’s and they haven’t come back yet. You know how bad the cell signal is out there, right?”
“Oh, yeah, I do. Ben was supposed to be with Mercy today. Are they back yet?”
“I didn’t know that. No, they’re not here. Why are you looking for that jerk anyway?”
“Oh, honey, what did Ben do now?”
“He’s just… ugh. He’s so mean sometimes. He told me yesterday that it looked like a mermaid died in my hair, because I dyed it blue and green.”
“That’s terrible, honey; I’m sure your hair looks beautiful! Do you want me to talk to him about it?”
“Why would you talk to Ben about being mean to me?” Jesse asks, baffled.
“You didn’t know we’re friends?” it’s Kyle’s turn to be confused.
“Nobody’s friends with Ben, except Mercy. You’re also a guy, Kyle. He’s not so mean to guys,” she says matter-of-factly. It makes Kyle sad to hear it.
“You’re right, and that’s a big problem with him. I do know he’s been trying to be better, sweetie, but changes that big don’t happen overnight. You should just ignore him when he’s Ben the Grouch. I’ll ask him to be nicer to you if you want.”
“If you think he’d listen to you, which I don’t.”
“Well, I do,” he promises. “Darling, I have to go. If you hear something about Warren and Ben, please let me know. You have my number right?”
“Yeah, I do. You’ll come by soon, right? You’re just about the only adult that listens to me around here.”
“Werewolves, right? I promise. Talk to you later, sweetie,” he says and disconnects the phone. He bites his lip and makes a decision to drive over to Mercy’s Garage, just in case something happened.
--
When Kyle parks his Jag outside of the garage, all the lights are on and the bays are open, which is odd as it’s past closing time. Mercy’s rabbit and Kyle’s truck are parked in the lot, which means they should be inside. He doesn’t see any movement in the shop, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t in the office. He pops the trunk and grabs the tire iron, just in case. The gravel crunches loudly under his feet as he walks to the closest open bay, loud enough that Ben should hear him coming. He looks inside and sees tools strewn about the floor next to a work bench, and the chairs from the waiting area are all flipped over as if they were thrown. There’s a werewolf sized dent in the hood of the old GTI that’s sitting in the second bay, and the window is smashed to pieces. He hopes that’s how the car came into the shop and not the direct result of Ben smashing into the car. His bad feeling goes from bad to worse, and pulls out his phone. He sends a group text to Warren and Adam.
6:25pm
At Mercy’s garage, looks like there was a fight. Will text again in five, don’t call til then Send help
He pockets the phone and hefts the tire iron. Its heavy weight is comforting in his hands and does a couple squats to limber up his legs. If he has to fight, he will. He had a black belt, after all, even though he was terribly out of practice, he could kick ass. Hopefully if it came to that, it was a human foe and not a supernatural one.
Kyle scans the shadows of the garage, looking for anything that could be hiding there and finds nothing. Slowly, and as quietly as he can, he starts walking to the office door.
The door is ajar, which is wrong. Mercy makes sure the door is always kept closed to keep it the comfortable temperature of whatever she’s set the HVAC at. He looks into the room and it’s dark, which isn’t good. He doesn’t have werewolf vision, so he can’t see beyond the strip of light that shines in from the garage.
He thinks he sees a booted foot on the floor, attached to a slim figure which is Mercy-shaped. He pushes the door open with the tire iron and reaches for the light switch and flips it on. Suddenly the room is bathed in light and that is most definitely Mercy sprawled on the floor.
He quickly scans the office to make sure there’s no one else there and rushes in to check on her. He drops the tire iron with a loud clang and he checks her pulse. Thankfully, she’s breathing, her pulse is strong, but she’s got several ugly bruises on her face and a split lip that is still oozing blood into a pool on the floor. Whatever happened here wasn’t that long ago. He gently shakes her arm. She moans and starts moving around as she comes to.
“Careful there, Mercy, take it easy. Can you sit up? Is anything broken?” he asks as he gently helps her turn over.
“Kyle? Where’s Ben? There was a witch and then a fight,” she slurs as she sits up and rubs her head, “Ouch.”
“I didn’t see Ben. He’s not in the garage and both of your vehicles are still parked out front. I’ll go look around back. Here, your lip is still bleeding,” he says as he pulls a clean handkerchief from his pocket and hands it to her, “I’ll be right back, so sit still and rest for a minute.”
“Thanks. Be careful.”
“I will. I haven’t been able to reach Adam or Warren, but I texted them to send help. Be right back.”
Kyle picks up the tire iron and does a quick perimeter search. He doesn’t find Ben, which scares him. He pulls his phone back out and sends the promised text to Adam and Warren.
6:31pm
Mercy’s here but was roughed up. Ben was probably taken. She says there was a witch. Call me ASAP
He walks back into the garage and Mercy has pulled herself off the floor and is sitting in the office chair pressing the handkerchief to her lip.
“He’s gone. How bad are you, hon? Can you walk?” He asks and rubs her shoulder gently. She winces and he stops with a muttered apology.
“I can walk. It’s going to hurt for a couple days, but I’ll be alright.”
“Good, now tell me what happened? Do you think they took Ben, whoever they are? God, please tell me he’s still alive!?”
“Ben’s still alive,” she says with certainty, “I can feel him through the Pack bonds, but he feels like he’s far away.”
“Oh, thank god,” Kyle says with relief. “Can you find him?”
“I don’t know. I can try.”
“Does all of this have to do with the meeting that was going on at Uncle Mike’s earlier today?”
“How do you know about that? Nevermind, you’re Warren’s mate, of course you’d find out about it. The meeting was between Alistair Beauclaire and Adam, Darryl, and Warren. From what I understand, a witch named Euphenia has been seen near the Fae reservation and Alistair wanted to ask for help finding her. She’s got a bone to pick with the Grey Lords because they tricked her at some point. She wants revenge and she thinks that she can use the Walking Stick, though I’m not sure I know why; it’s not going to obey her. She has some sort of earth elemental under her control. That thing knocked me out. Ben fought hard but was knocked out while Euphenia kept me busy. She left without the Walking Stick, and probably wants to use Ben as leverage for it.
“Can you tell if he’s hurt?”
“I don’t… think… so? He alive and not happy, that’s about all I can tell through the pack bond right now. If we can get a hold of Adam, he probably could tell us more.”
“I texted them back and told them to call me ASAP, but so far nothing. Do you think they’re on the Reservation and just not getting service?”
“I can’t tell, but if they’re out there, that’s most likely. We may be on our own.”
“Mercy, we have to get Ben back. I don’t want to think about what she might be doing to him! He’s got enough issues without this on top of everything else.”
“You two seem to be pretty close. Huh. When did that happen? He’s never really said anything about you other than you and Warren make him come over for “shitty” movie nights.”
“That doesn’t surprise me. When does Ben ever really talk about himself? He bitches and grumbles, yeah, but he’s really good at not saying much about himself. He doesn’t have many friends in the pack from what I understand, and unfortunately, a lot of them think that being gay is a communicable disease. If they found out that we’re close, some of them might think he’s another one of us fags and start causing trouble. He’s got enough problems without dealing with homophobic werewolf assholes.”
“Good point, but still, I thought we were friends.”
“He respects you, Mercy. That’s more than most people get from him,” Kyle says gently.
Werewolf ideas of sexuality piss Kyle off, and he tries not to think about it most of the time. He and Warren get plenty of flack from certain members of the pack, and a small, but older, contingent of the werewolves still think that Kyle can’t be Warren’s mate because they can’t reproduce. That’s utter bullshit, he thinks, especially since Warren has explained that female werewolves can’t carry to term. It invalidates the whole argument of what makes a person a mate.
Ben, on the other hand, really doesn’t give two shits about who people sleep with. He’s of the new generation of werewolf that has the modern perceptions and acceptance of different sexualities. However, he learned to keep his mouth shut when confronted with homophobia in the London pack and has just skated along with the status quo.
Kyle thinks Ben is bisexual, but is so blinded by his misogyny and his past experiences that he’s repressed whatever sexual desire he might have. Or, he could be spaghetti and just not care about the gender of whoever he’s had sex with in the past because it was never anything more than fucking. Or not. Ben’s a mystery that Kyle puzzles over from time to time.
It really didn’t matter because being branded as homosexual while being a werewolf was a death sentence, according to Warren. Warren happened to be dominant enough and powerful enough to survive, but Ben most certainly wasn’t. He’d never risk it, even if he decided he liked men. Kyle hated that Ben had to deal with such archaic thinking, so he wasn’t at all offended if Ben didn’t make their friendship common knowledge.
“So what’s the plan, Mercy? We need to find Ben, but how?”
“I might be able to track him by scent if I become Coyote, if I can pick up a trail.”
“And then what? We charge into the witch’s lair, kick her ass, and save Ben? That sounds dangerous. I’m in,” Kyle tells her with all sincerity.
“Kyle, witches are incredibly dangerous, and you’re human. If we find her, we’ll have to wait for the pack to mount a rescue. I couldn’t face Warren if something happened to you.”
“I couldn’t face myself if she’s hurting him, Mercy. He’s my friend and I care about him. We have to try.”
“Alright. Let’s see if we can find them first, then make a plan from there.”
“No plan survives first contact with the enemy. We might be the cavalry.”
“Are you actually willing to die for Ben, Kyle?” she asks, amazed.
“Yes. Aren’t you?”
“Does Warren know how much of a badass you are, Kyle Brooks?”
“Of course he does. My ass is one of my best features,” he replies with a saucy wink.

Together This Time
Read It On AO3
Tagging: @soccialcreature you said you wanted me to tag you when I finally wrote in this universe WELL THE DAY IS HERE
Words: 1,542
Summary: With every decision made a parallel universe is made. A world that is completely different just because of one single decision.
This time everything changes, when instead of just mentoring Keith, Shiro takes him in and fosters him.
This time Adam is there for Keith when Shiro is not. And this time he is there when he rescues Shiro. This time he’s there through every crazy space adventure.
Everything changes.
Or: The Multiple One Shot Rewrite No One Asked For But You’re Getting Anyway
This time, Adam tags along when the team finds the blue lion. Shiro and Adam talk.
A/N: So! This is a one shot set in my new universe. I’m doing my own fix it of sorts with the series. It won’t be a full story, because I frankly can’t put that on my plate right now but! I am going to write one shots, which will essentially be peaks into the story. Some will be centered on different relationships, platonic and romantic, and some will be more plot based.
This one is Adashi centered, as Adashi is going to become a large part of the series and I needed to establish their place in the story first. If you have any questions about this au feel free to ask! Also sorry for any mistakes, I don’t have a beta and I wrote this when I was quite tired lol
Anyways without further ado here is my first one shot in this universe Together This Time!
It’s not so much that Shiro doesn’t want Adam to come with them- quite the opposite really, seeing as he hasn’t seen Adam in years, or however long he was gone after the Kerberos mission (keeping track of time while in a prison cell is trickier than one might think) and he has missed Adam every single day since he left.
The thing is, aliens are after him. Crazy as it seems, there are bloodthirsty aliens after him who aren’t too thrilled their champion (wait where did that word come from?) got away. And the last thing he wants is for Adam to get wrapped up in this.
Though really, he already was the minute he tagged along on Keith’s ridiculous yet somehow effective rescue mission. And there is the issue of Keith sensing some sort of energy, and Shiro already knows there is no way Adam will let well enough alone when Keith is involved. Because he would and is doing the exact same.
“Look, I’m going with you ok?” Adam tells him when Shiro pulls him aside. “We have no idea what these energy signatures are. If these aliens want it, it’s going to be dangerous.” His face softens for a moment, and Shiro can feel himself melt. “You’re alive, against all hope you’re here. I’m not letting you die now. Not when I can do something. You’re not leaving me behind again.”
And well, Adam always did know exactly what to say to get to him. “Adam.” He whispers, and they both know he’s won even if he tries to argue. “I- you know that’s not fair. Kerberos was-”
“-is ancient history.” Adam cuts off. “Look we can talk about this later, right now those kids- Keith needs us. You can complain all you want but I am coming with you.”
And just like that the argument is over and Adam breaks off from their whisper-shout-match to talk to Keith.
They’ve gotten closer since he’s been gone, Shiro notices. Keith and Adam had gotten along fine before, but they seemed actually close now. Which actually raises more questions like, why is their foster kid in a shack in the middle of nowhere rather than back home with Adam? What happened while he was gone?
They’re out the door before he can ask, and he doesn’t get the chance to ask before they’re in some sort of alien lion shooting off to who knows where. Because that’s Shiro’s life now apparently. Just one roller coaster after another.
When Lance asks if they should enter the portal, Shiro looks to Adam first. As if understanding his unsaid question, Adam brushes his hand against Shiro’s and nods. And next thing they all know they’re going through a portal and Shiro wonders what deity he pissed off to fling him into this situation.
It isn’t until much later, after a run in with a space princess, some space mice and a royal adviser, some revelation about a great destiny about lions and voltron and a space battle, that they actually get to talk.
Adam comes to Shiro’s room after everything has died down, because they need to talk damn it and Shiro isn’t getting out of this one.
“So I guess this is the part where we actually act like mature adults and speak to each other.” Adam speaks first because of course he does. He always was better at this... feelings thing than he was.
“I guess so. Where do we start?”
“I don’t know, pick a subject.” Adam rolls his eyes fondly.
Shiro sighs. “I guess I should start with saying I’m sorry. You were right. Kerberos was...definitely a bad idea.”
“It being a bad idea is not why I didn’t want you to go, you know that. At least I hope you do.”
“It isn’t?”
He laughed incredulously. “No you idiot! I didn’t want you to go because I wanted to spend what little time you had left with you, not the body bag they were inevitably going to be carrying back!” Adam’s voice rose slightly and Shiro cringed. He had really messed up hadn’t he?
“I didn’t- I didn’t want you to see me die.” Shiro admitted weakly.
“What?” Adam said his voice nearly a whisper. He had clearly not expected that answer.
This time it was Shiro’s turn to raise his voice. “I was already deteriorating enough. I didn’t want you to have to see me when it got worse. I didn’t want your last memory of me to be me withering away in front of you!”
“And I didn’t want my last memory of you to be your back out the door but I guess we don’t exactly get what we want do we?”
“I guess not.” Shiro replied childishly, crossing his arms and flopping gracelessly onto his bed.
Adam took off his glasses and rubbed at his eyes, Shiro remembers that look. The first time he ever saw it was when they were still teenagers and he somehow managed to get Shiro out of two weeks of detention.
For a prank that Adam had helped him with thank you very much so he had no right to be looking at him that way when he was equally as wrong but also that was legendary work thank you Adam.
It was the look he got when he was exasperated with you, but not angry enough to walk away. He missed that look.
“I missed you.” Shiro says before he can think.
Adam looks up and slowly puts his glasses back on with a sigh. “I missed you too, Ta- Shiro but-”
And good god that sounds absolutely wrong.
“Takashi.”
“What?”
“It’s always been Takashi for you.” And he can’t quite get out the ‘please never change that’ or the ‘it feels so wrong to hear Shiro from you now, so please don’t’ or the ‘please still love me’ but he hopes Adam can hear what he doesn’t say.
He thinks he just might, because Adam replies with the first genuine smile Shiro has seen from him since he was rescued. It’s not particularly wide or bright, but its there.
“Alright. Takashi.” He says as though trying the name on again, and the smile widens ever so slightly. And this time Adam can’t think of what to say so he just says. “I think I still love you.” There is no ‘i think’ about it, but he can at least retain a small bit of pride this way.
“I thought you weren’t going to wait for me.” It comes out a little choked and it is absolutely because it is dusty in here and not at all because he’s trying not to cry.
“I wasn’t, but I guess I was wrong. Didn’t help too much that you know, died. And I had a kid to watch over.”
There was a lot to unpack in that sentence, but Shiro started with more neutral territory. Keith. “What happened after I- you know. Was pronounced dead? Why wasn’t Keith back at our- your place?”
Adam’s face scrunched up in frustration for a moment. “He’s as bull-headed as you that’s why. He ran off when the news broke. I found him at the shack, he said it was where his dad raised him. Rather than force him to come home and potentially ruin any chance of keeping in contact with him, I let him. I checked on him whenever I could, I brought him the basics, ya know food, water, clothes.”
Shiro really did not feel like arguing, so he ignored the obvious flaws in that plan. “You guys seemed closer.”
“We are. We had a lot of time to talk over the past couple years. Mostly talked about you though admittedly.”
Shiro chuckled. “Should I be worried?”
“Oh definitely.” This time they both chuckled.
They sobered quickly, and there was silence. But not the uncomfortable overbearing type of silence. It was the kind of silence between two people who didn’t know where to move next.
Literally and figuratively.
Shiro hesitantly reached out to take Adam’s hand. “Is this ok?”
“Yes.” Adam replied, inching closer to Shiro. “Can I hug you?”
“Yes.” Shiro breathed and immediately was wrapped in Adam’s arms. They held each other close, melting against one another.
“This doesn’t mean things are fixed yet, Takashi.” Adam whispered.
“Yet?” Shiro echoed, hope slipping into his voice against his will.
“We still have a lot to talk about but... I think I’d like to try again. If you want to that is.”
Shiro felt as though his heart had stopped, he had hoped and dreamed Adam would be there when he returned, and yet here he was. And everything felt right.
“I mean if you don’t want to it’s ok. It’s been a long time, we’ve both changed-” Adam began pulling away, taking Shiro’s silence the wrong way.
Shiro panicked as Adam pulled away and tugged him back into his embrace. “I’d like that too. I never stopped loving you, Adam.”
Adam breathed out a sigh of relief and chuckled. “That’s good to hear.”
Shiro chuckled as well. “Yeah, it is.” He sobered for a moment. “Whatever comes next, we’ll handle it. Together this time.”
Adam nodded. “Together this time.”

Desdichado: Chapter Ten

Writing this chapter was a struggle, and I had to face a fact: I can’t write Outlaw Queen! So I reached out to @snowbellewells, and she came to my rescue. The first half of this chapter is hers, and I am so thankful! She captured the style of this fic perfectly. Make sure to give her some love. The “poems” Emma reads in this chapter are actually lyrics to two Loreena McKennitt songs: “Mummer’s Dance” and her version of “Greensleeves.
Summary: Sir Killian is a noble knight known throughout the kingdom for his heroic deeds in the Crusades. However, he is nothing but the ward of Lord Stefan, which means he is forbidden to wed his childhood sweetheart, Lady Aurora. Emma Swan is the ward of Lady Regina, a former noblewoman of ill repute. They are known as merchants and healers, and sometimes rumored to be witches. Sir Phillip is a noble knight of the Templar who discovers an evil plot by his leader, Sir Baelfire. Treachery and intrigue will soon throw all of these characters together in surprising ways. (A CS AU of Ivanhoe)
Rating: T
Words: 4,000 in this chapter, so hopefully tumblr doesn’t eat the cut

The fire crackled like a warmly wavering beacon in the dark of the night within the forest. Though they were far off the track where her wagon had been accosted earlier that day and the crackling, popping logs and dancing flames gave off a much welcomed warmth in the chill night air, Regina found she could not get comfortable in the bedroll she had been so kindly loaned, no matter how hard she might try. True, she was a bit further off from the circle of camp nearest the blaze, bedded down with the other members of Stefan’s caravan who had been rescued by the band of forest rebels, so she could always claim she had been too chilled for comfortable slumber as her excuse.
It went deeper than that however; there was no sense denying it - at least not to herself. Her heart ached in her chest at how Emma had been taken from her and only worse and worse possibilities preyed on her mind of what the young woman she loved as a daughter might be enduring even now. Lying there, reasonably safe and warm, but unable to do anything to help her ward, was eating away at her. Finally, she sighed and flung off the blanket, getting up with a huff of frustration and moving to the small circle of men still awake around the fire.
The man who had been speaking when she approached looked up, unsurprised and at ease as she stepped from the trees into the circle of light. Regina was mildly annoyed at his calm knowing, as she generally prided herself on having a bit of the grace she had been raised with in the noble home of a lord and lady, and also some measure of stealth and subtlety from the life she had made for herself and Emma - free, but constantly on guard and on the move.
The three or four men still sitting up with him, clearly putting together some sort of battle plan for the day ahead, did look up, startled, when this ‘Hood’ motioned her forward, his tone light and even a bit taunting as he beckoned, “Come milady Regina, join us. No need to lurk in the shadows.”
Affronted, even as she had been caught out doing just that, Regina huffed and stalked forward, dropping down onto the empty log as far from this Robin of Locksley as she could possibly get. Taking the carved, wooden tankard passed her way, Regina quickly tipped it up to hide at least partially her flushed cheeks and snapping, riled eyes for a moment behind its wide base.
Unfortunately, the sharp, bitter flavor that met her taste buds did not mellow on its way down her throat, and she choked, eyes watering and coughing hard, slamming the drink back down on the log beside her. Glaring at the men gathered around the fire, as if assuming they had tried to play a trick on her, Regina spat out, “What is that?”
The near-giant man seated at Robin Hood’s right raised an arm that seemed thick as a tree branch to jab a finger at her, eyes narrowed in equal distaste. “Tis our own Friar Tuck’s best ale,” he responded heatedly. “One not quite so high and mighty could simply be grateful for drink to wet a parched throat and a safe fire to warm herself by.”
“His best?!?” Reigna spluttered indignantly, completely disregarding the aspersions cast on her character; long used to them and knowing in this case they were at least partially true. “If that’s his best, then I hope he is a better friar than he is a brewer.”
Grumbles broke out around the fire as all the men gathered now voiced their discontent and their restless agitation began to show. “How dare you!” the huge man burst out, gaze trained angrily on Regina.
But Robin’s hand raised placatingly stopped the burly man’s tirade before it could truly begin, falling silent in deference to his leader’s stoic command. “Peace, Little John,” he murmured softly, his voice firm and certain though barely raised, a voice well used to being followed absolutely, even if hardly louder than the crackling fire, the shuffling of unsettled feet, the night sounds around them, and her own breath rasping with exertion echoing in her ears.
Despite herself, Regina simply couldn’t keep her tart tongue in check; she was too off-balance, too worried, feeling much too helpless and angry at everything and everyone to think before speaking. It had earned her more than one harsh punishment from her lady mother in her childhood and adolescence, and she realized wryly that once again - despite all the years between and her drastic change in circumstances - she possessed more fire in her speech than was good for her. “Little?” she scoffed, wincing even as the word slipped off her tongue with derision. She might be rightly shaken and perturbed, but that didn’t give her the right to be hurtful. “Most who would attach such a diminutive before their names might show a bit more restraint at evening repast to be sure the term still fit.” She wanted to bit her own tongue in reprisal, but the words had already been spoken, seeming to hang almost visibly in the smoky air.
“Restraint?!?” the behemoth shot back, looking truly incensed now. “You’re one to speak of restraint, when you wage war with every word that falls from your mouth. At finally meeting the sole heir of your family’s estate, I now see why it ended with no new generation to continue - “
“Enough!” Robin’s sharp order was louder this time, cracking through the air like the whistle of an unfurled whip, harsher and more commanding than Regina had yet heard it - even when he and his men had charged into the fray along the road to battle their attackers. His eyes, which had been so warm and inviting mere minutes before, glittered dangerously as they flicked between his second-in-command and herself, brooking no further obstinance. The argument was over. “Shame on you both, fighting like this when we are on the same side. We must be united if we are to survive what faces us on the morrow. You know this,” he directed that last to his second harshly. The other man’s nod was tight with thwarted frustration, but he did not speak again.
Robin’s shoulders dropped slightly. “Go,” he told his troops still gathered around. “Get what rest you may. We will need all the strength we can muster for the battle.”
The men dispersed, melting silently back into the shadows of the trees. The leader of their outlaw band remained seated across from Regina, silent now and looking somewhat deflated, as if having to exert his authority so harshly had drained him. His head bowed the tiniest degree, and as he ran a weary hand back through his sandy hair in worried tension, Regina was flooded with regret at her outburst and her own ungratefulness. She wanted to apologize, but instead only sat silently, uncertain how to fix the mess she had helped to make, hands clasped in her lap and feeling as small and as overwhelmed as she hadn’t since the night before she left her family home long ago - saying goodbye to the place where she had grown up after one last failed plea to her parents for the right to make her own path, and steeling herself to venture into the unknown world alone.
Biting her lower lip, Regina braved another glance up at the man across from her, only to find him studying her curiously - as if she were some sort of puzzle he could solve and then come to understand. His was gaze less stormy, more quiet and contemplative when he finally spoke, “You’re worried about her, aren’t you? Your ward?” he asked finally, his voice low and steady, though sincere in its question, expressing true concern. Regina was surprised too at noticing a cultured polish to its deep tones that had escaped her notice previously and seemed incongruous with a woodland bandit.
“Emma,” Regina clarified with a nod, not really wanting to proceed, knowing that thinking of her companion, the young woman she had rarely been separated from for any length of time, would only intensify the fears for her replaying in her mind. “I realize there is nothing to be done tonight, and that it doesn’t excuse my rudeness to you or your men. My granny used to say my temper and my tongue would be a bane to me all of my days…” She shook her head ruefully at the memory that had once again proven true and paused before adding, “Be that as it may, I feel so helpless at the thought of her being hurt - or worse….” she shuddered, wrapping her arms around herself at the chill which overtook her. “She’s been with me since she was two year old. In my heart, I feel she is in part my daughter. Not going to her this instant torments me so that I want to crawl out of my own skin!” She shook her head, words running out and getting her nowhere before trailing off to sit once again staring into the fire.
Robin said nothing for some minutes, making Regina wonder if he would reply at all. When he finally got to his feet, Regina half expected him to turn and leave her to her woes, not even sure she deserved more than that from him. Still, her heart ached at the prospect of yet another man who could not handle, or did not wish to, all the impropriety, the whirling emotion, and the outspoken, nontraditional challenge she posed.
However, he wholly surprised her. Boots crunched lightly over the fallen leaves on the ground between them as the archer crossed the emptied circle toward her instead. Removing his deep green cloak from his broad shoulders, he draped it over her own shivering ones, tucking it gently under her chin and then retreating a step as if suddenly afraid that had been too much. When he dropped to sit once more, it was beside her instead, and when Regina met his gaze, it was wistful, melancholy, and seemed to have gained the understanding he had previously sought. “My wife, Marian...God rest her sweet soul...she died bringing our son Roland into this world. She was goodness, purity and light...all I needed in this world...and to think that Roland will never know her…” he shook his head, fighting to rein in the emotion that had clearly risen with his words.
Without thinking, Regina reached out a steadying hand and placed it on his knee in comfort.
“Well, to put it bluntly, I often feel that I fail him every day, simply by being all he has. And yet, I would give anything, bear anything, to insure his safety. So, I believe I know something of your fear,” he finished, giving her a grateful look before he lay his larger hand over her own where it still rested on his knee, clasping it with a gentle pressure.
Regina tried to ignore the frisson of heat that rippled up her arm at the simple contact - not only unfitting, but so unfamiliar to her that she hardly knew how to process it.
For his part, Robin looked startled as well when she blinked dazedly and once more met his eyes. He leaned forward, close enough that his warm breath brushed across her nose and cheeks and she saw the determination solidify in the his face when he made her a solemn vow. “We will find my friend, and your Emma. I swear it to you, Regina. On my honor.”
She held his faze for a breathless moment before finally whispering, “I may have only just met you, Robin of Locksley, but I believe you will.”
Her affirmation, her belief in him seemed to transform his face. The flickering light of the fire burning low captured the smile that curved his mouth upward and glanced off the laugh lines crinkling at the corners of his eyes. “Yes,” she whispered again, as if cementing it in her heart for strength. “I believe you will.”
*******************************************************
And so they linked their hands and danced
Round in circles and in rows
And so the journey of the night descends
When all the shades are gone
A garland gay we bring you here
And at your door we stand
It is a sprout well budded out
The work of Our Lord's hand
The Lady Swan’s voice wasn’t the soft, demure kind typical among the nobility. It was commanding and confident. Even while reading, the sound of it arrested Sir Killian. Listening to her read from the slim volume of poetry also gave him permission to study her features: her cheeks that appled when she smiled, the dimple in her chin, the dusting of freckles across the bridge of her nose. Her eyes were hidden beneath her lashes as she bent her head over the book in her lap, but he had noticed them earlier that morning on the pillow next to him. They were a glassy shade of green that he didn’t think he had ever seen before. And her hair? It was braided today, tamed in a more socially acceptable fashion, yet it still glistened like polished bronze.
We’ve been rambling all the night
And some time of this day
Now returning back again
We bring the garland gay.
She finished reading the poem and smiled as she lifted her head to meet his gaze. “Do you wish for me to read another, my liege?”
He shook his head. “No, m’lady. Courtly poetry can only entertain one for so long, even a knight.”
Killian cocked his head and studied her as she chuckled lightly, running her hand along the cover of the book in her lap as she closed it. “Although,” he continued, “I would like to hear more of you, Lady Swan.”
She shrugged as she set the book on the nightstand. “There isn’t much to tell, I’m afraid.” Her smile wavered, and it caused him to frown.
“Being abandoned is no condemnation on your character, but upon those who cast you aside.”
Emma blinked and her lips parted on a half gasp. “But how did you –“
“I know the look in your eyes for it is one I know well. It is one thing to be orphaned. It is quite another to feel you weren’t wanted.”
Emma ducked her head. “I assumed, Sir Killian, that your parents had died.”
“My mother did,” he told her softly, “I was very young, but I still remember her beauty and kindness.”
Emma’s eyes held equal measures of tenderness and sadness. “I have often chafed over not knowing why I was abandoned in the forest. I never considered the pain of having a parent’s love and then losing it.”
Killian searched her eyes intently. “One can never compare pain. It all hurts.”
Emma gave him a tremulous smile. “That is true. And at least we each found a home.”
Killian clenched his jaw and hesitated. Yet the look in the fair lady’s eyes, the clear pain of her abandonment, made him confess the truth that only two other people in the world knew.
“Lord Stefan would have people think I was taken in as family, for the sake of his precious Lady’s memory. Yet truth be told, I was technically his slave.”
If Emma had gasped in shock and disgust, he wouldn’t have blamed her. Yet she didn’t. Her brow furrowed as she searched his face.
“How can that be?”
“He . . . paid for me. Paid my father. My brother and I should have been slaves toiling on the manor, if not for Lady Rose. She loved us as sons.”
“But not Lord Stefan?”
Emma laid her hand upon the bed covers, and Killian wondered if she realized how close her fingers were to his.
“He seemed to care for us, even if he were a bit distant at times. Perhaps we reminded him of the sons Lady Rose never bore him? I know not. He . . . preferred my brother. That I am sure of.”
Emma leaned forward, a crooked smile upon her lips. “And what makes you believe so?”
Killian smiled in return, “Everyone idolized Liam. He was so good and noble and charitable. Though I lost him, he is still my plumb line. Yet it seems so unattainable. He set the bar so high, how could I ever reach it?”
Emma grasped his hand. “How can you say that? Tales of your heroics in the Crusades have preceded you home. You, Sir Killian, have many marks in the hero column. Don’t think so lowly of yourself.”
Killian had the urge to link their fingers, but hesitated, choosing instead to run his thumb over Emma’s knuckles.
“I am flattered m’lady, but it is bad form to speak only of myself. What of your beginnings?”
Emma’s eyes grew distant as she began to speak. “Living with Lady Regina is all I have ever known. I was but a babe when I came to be in her home.”
“But she has always been good to you?”
“Aye, she has. Like I told you before, she educated me, taught me to fight and take care of myself. This is a cruel world for my sex, and Lady Regina always taught me that I can’t rely on a man to rescue me. She tilted her chin up. “The only one who saves me is me.”
Killian grinned. “So I’ve noticed.”
“I know that Regina is . . . unorthodox in her lifestyle. Combine that with my lack of proper lineage, and the hopes for me to marry are slim. Perhaps it seems lonely, but being an unmarried healer is the best future for me.”
“You are a woman of such fire and passion,” Killian said softly, his voice dropping low, “it is a shame for you to choose such a life.”
Emma’s eyes seemed a shade darker as she locked her gaze on his. For a moment, it was as if an invisible thread were drawing them closer. Killian turned his hand palm up and threaded his fingers with hers. Emma looked down at their joined hands, swallowing hard. Before she could pull her hand free or form a coherent sentence to break their sudden connection, the door to their chambers burst open. The sound sent Emma shooting to her feet, her face burning as if she’d been caught at something scandalous.
Her blush quickly turned to a pallor as cold dread washed over her. The man before her was dressed regally, cruel power emanating from his features. When he saw her, that power softened to barely contained rage.
“You’re not Lady Aurora,” he seethed with an icy tone.
Emma swallowed down her fear. She curtsied quickly and forced a demure voice. “No, your highness, I am Emma Swan, a humble healer.”
“Then why,” Prince James hissed as he strode across the room,” are you wearing her noble garments?”
He grasped Emma’s chin in his hands, his fingers digging into her cheeks.
“There is no need to lay a hand upon a lady,” Killian cried out, struggling to rise from his bed.
Prince James released Emma roughly, causing her to stumble into the chest of drawers behind her. Killian lurched forward, throwing himself between Emma and the Prince. The royal laughed cruelly as Killian stumbled and fell at the Prince’s feet. Emma sank to her knees next to Killian and helped him to a seated position.
“Lady Aurora does not wish to be your bride,” Emma yelled, not caring in the least about her lowly station, “so I helped her escape. She is far from your clutches by now, praise the Lord above.”
Prince James’s rage was clearly evident on his face. Killian held his breath, praying fervently as he never had before. The Prince’s hand went to the hilt of his sword, and Killian knew nothing was stopping him from running them both through. Killian had never wanted his own sword so desperately.
Prince James’s eyes narrowed, dark with loathing, but then he loosened his grip on his sword. His expression turned to one of scoffing.
“I will dispose of you, Sir Killian . . . eventually. But for now, you are my bait. Common peasants you both may be, but your sentimental households will still no doubt come to your rescue.”
He sneered before kicking Killian in the side. Killian cried out in pain, which only motivated Prince James to kick him again.
“Stop! Stop!” Emma sobbed, flinging herself across Killian’s torso to block the blows.
Prince James laughed sadistically then grabbed Emma by her hair. She screamed as he hauled her to her feet.
“And you,” he spat in her face, “Sir Baelfire wants to wed you for some bizarre reason, so for his sake, I’ll let you live.” He ran a finger down the side of Emma’s face, and she shuddered at his touch. “I don’t know why he didn’t just take you when he had the chance.”
Killian roared at his base words and managed to leap to his feet in his rage. He launched himself at Prince James, but the royal merely laughed again as he shoved the knight easily away from him, flinging him into Emma. They both fell into a heap upon the floor, and Prince James spat upon them both.
“Enough of this,” he snarled, “I have a castle to fortify.”
The Prince strode then from the chamber, slamming the heavy oak door behind him. Emma shifted, cradling Killian’s head in her lap as he groaned in pain. She ran her fingers through his hair, shaking her head at his foolishness.
“What were you thinking, trying to attack him in your state?”
“I am a knight,” Killian groaned, “I can’t abide a man accosting a lady. I took the vow of chivalry.”
“Well, chivalry is all well and good until it gets you killed,” she quipped as she ran her hands along his torso. He cried out loudly as she touched one tender spot. “Your stab wound didn’t reopen, thank God above, but his kicks cracked your ribs all over again,” she fussed over him, “when they had just healed.”
“That explains why it hurts when I laugh.”
Emma rolled her eyes. “And whatever do you have to laugh about in our current predicament?”
“I always laugh when an enemy underestimates his foe.”
Emma helped him roll to his feet, then draped his arm over her shoulder as she helped him back to the bed. “You are brave, Sir Killian,” she grunted as she deposited him on the feather mattress, “but you are also far too cocky.”
He grinned up at her as she tucked the coverlet around him. “I wasn’t talking about me.”
Emma blushed as she turned to resume her seat beside the bed. To cover the way his praise flustered her, she retrieved the book of poetry and cleared her throat as she opened it.
“I think poetry is needed to calm our humors, don’t you agree?”
“Your voice will soothe every pain,” Killian told her with a clear note of flirtation in his voice.
That infernal blush rose to her cheeks once again as she began to read.
Alas my love you do me wrong
To cast me off discourteously;
And I have loved you oh so long
Delighting in your company.
Greensleeves was my delight,
Greensleeves my heart of gold
Greensleeves was my heart of joy
And who but my lady Greensleeves.

Plot Bunny Adoptions
As some of you may know, I have an overabundance of plot bunnies! Plot bunnies are those story ideas I get (usually while writing another story) that stick around in my head. Each time I come up with a new plot bunny, I write it down for later. Which means they multiply quickly...
Unfortunately, my word doc with all these plot bunnies has become overcrowded. I am unable to give all the love and care to these plot bunnies that they deserve, so I would like to offer them to caring writers who would give them a good home!
Don’t worry, I have kept many plot bunnies to myself, but these others always seem to take a back burner, and that doesn’t seem fair! So I am giving them up for adoption!
Below the ‘keep reading’ line are many, many plot bunnies that I am putting up for adoption. But before you adopt, some things to note:
Plot bunnies are available for the following fandoms: Supernatural, Star Wars, and Hobbit
Once you adopt a plot bunny, it is yours. You can change it to an insert reader, OC, ship, anything you like. You can change characters that are the focus or even make it an AU. It is yours, so you can groom it and play with it all you want! :D
Plot bunnies can only be adopted to one home. Once they are adopted, they are no longer available! For this reason, if you want to adopt one of these adorable plot bunnies, you have to send me an ask with the plot bunny number you are interested in! I will respond saying if that plot bunny is yours or if it has been adopted already.
I will not be writing these plot bunnies after they are adopted, so they are completely yours. Any that aren’t adopted will go back to my word doc and hopefully find a forever home with either myself or someone in the future!
You are welcome to adopt more than one plot bunny at a time, if you can give them good homes! ^^
When you start writing the plot bunny, please tag me in it!!! I would love to come visit and say hi every now and then! :D
Adoptions will be open until July 1st.
If you, or someone you know, has been looking for new ideas for stories or a challenge or such, please refer them to this plot bunny adoption. I hope you will consider giving one of these little guys a good home!!! <3 <3 <3
The plot bunnies below are organized by fandom. For ease of browsing, if the original plot bunny idea has a main focal character, that character’s name will be bolded so you can find them quickly.
Plot bunnies will have any random thoughts or details that I came up with at the time. Feel free to use these or use your own. It is completely your decision. ^^ I just copied them directly from my word doc! XD
I hope you will find a bunny that suits you!!!

Kimi Hamuti (1/?)
co-written by @paapakawalk !!
Fandom: Moana
Category: Gen
Word Count: 4,433
Chapter: 1/?
Summary: Kimi Hamuti- it means "to make amends" in Te Reo Māori.
Set in an AU where Te Kā refuses to take her heart back, she sends Maui out to reconcile with every being he has ever wronged in his immortal lifetime. To make sure he actually complies with what she says, Te Kā places a curse on Moana. Until Maui has reconciled with *everyone* he's ever wronged, Moana will suffer and feel all of the collective pain of those he needs to make amends with. To try and talk Te Kā into letting Moana stay home, he suggests to bring someone who despsises him, and metions Tamatoa by name only as a joking suggestion.
But due to a very poor miscommunication error on Maui's part, Te Ka caves in *immediately*, and instead of letting Maui get his way and sending Moana home, Te Kā instead insists that he must now travel with both Moana *and* Tamatoa, trapping them in a situation where *none* of them can be happy.
An impulsive decision, a blinding flash of light… and just like that, his hook is gone.
The kickback is enough to send him careening towards a small rock jutting out of the sea, and when he looks towards his hook it’s nothing more than a hilt and a pile of ash. Sharp pain shoots across his chest as he stares at his prized possession, his gift from Tangaroa; but he shakes it off. As long as the attack was enough to buy Moana enough time to find the spiral, then, well, his hook really isn’t his biggest concern at the moment.
But apparently he underestimated the power his cracked hook had, because when Te Kā stands back up a few seconds later, she’s grimacing and gripping tightly at her chest – where his hook had apparently chipped away at multiple layers of hardened lava.
Māui curses silently to himself, and slowly pushes himself back up to his feet to challenge Te Kā again. It’s not like he has any chance without his hook, but if he can buy Moana even one minute of extra time so she can restore the Heart to Te Fiti, then Te Kā won’t exactly be a problem anymore.
Besides, he’s the one Te Kā’s after, right? He’s the one Te Kā tried to fight for the Heart when he stole it a thousand years ago, wasn’t he? It’s not like Te Kā would have any reason to show interest in Moana at any point other than when she was on the same boat as him, and all Moana’s doing is trying to restore the Heart. Māui’s not sure Te Kā is even aware that Moana’s the one who has the Heart at all.
But when Māui chances a glance up at Te Kā as he’s standing to his feet, he suddenly realizes that he couldn’t be further from the truth if he tried. Instead of focusing all of her rage on him, or using his broken hook as an opportunity to smite him on the spot, Te Kā is instead directing ounce of her attention onto Moana.
So he picks up the broken hilt of his hook and slams it back down onto the rock, just for extra effect, and calls out to Te Kā. She freezes instantly at the sound of his voice, and contorts herself to face him so quickly that she accidentally sends some of her lava falling into the water below.
As soon as he’s sure he’s got her undivided attention, Māui immediately drops into a haka, challenging Te Kā to pay attention only to him, to attack him, to smite him, because better him than Moana. He’d rather die a thousand fiery deaths at the hands of Te Kā than watch Moana suffer underneath her wrath – because, after all, it’s his fault they’re here, his fault things got this far out of hand–
But before Te Kā can swing her hand down to scorch him alive, he sees a tiny flash of bright green out of the corner of his eye. Evidently Te Kā has seen it too, because she screeches to a halt, the ball of fire in her palm disintegrating into the water with a weak splash. Gone in an instant is her attention on him, and when Māui turns to see what Te Kā’s looking at he spots Moana standing on the very peak of Te Fiti’s blackened shore. She’s holding the Heart up in the air, and there’s enough bright light flashing from it to be spotted from the barrier islands.
At first Māui thinks she only did that to stop Te Kā from killing him, and that she’ll go right back to the spiral to put the Heart back, but instead of turning around Moana begins to walk back down the shore towards the ocean. Crazy little mortal, he thinks, beginning to grow alarmed. What is she plotting?
“Moana!” he shouts in an attempt to catch her attention, but she doesn’t seem to hear a single word he’s saying. Instead, she pauses right where the ocean splashes against the shore. One word to the ocean has it splitting itself in half before her, giving Moana a direct path to the barrier island Te Kā seems to be trapped on.
The moment Te Kā watches the ocean part in two, she roars, and slams herself down onto the now-dry ground, tearing up the very earth itself as she claws her way towards Moana. Māui’s about to grab his hook and turn into a hawk just so he can keep watch and make sure Te Kā isn’t going to burn Moana to a crisp – but stops and curses to himself when he remembers that his hook isn’t exactly functional.
Distantly, if he listens closely enough, Māui thinks he can hear the sound of Moana singing. And if he didn’t know any better, if this were a far, far less dangerous situation than the one she’s willingly putting herself in, Māui could swear she was singing a lullaby, because he’s not sure he’s ever heard anyone use such a soft and gentle voice for anything other than for putting their feisty child to bed at night.
Huh. He never actually considered that lulling Te Kā into submission would actually work, but if there’s anyone out there who could manage, it’d be Moana.
So when Te Kā comes to a halt in front of the tall rock Moana planted herself on, but doesn’t use the close distance to kill her and get it over with, it comes to no surprise to Māui.
What happens after she stops, however, that’s the part that shocks Māui.
Instead of bowing her head to Moana to speak to her, or even dissipating the lava boiling inside her to allow Moana to step closer to her so she can speak, Te Kā instead throws her head back and begins roaring in laughter. Raw, genuinely amused laughter.
Māui’s not sure why this rubs him just the wrong way, but it does.
And he’s not sure why Te Ka’s ominous laughter has him leaping off the rock he was standing on, or why it has him sprinting towards where Te Kā and Moana are standing, but he does.
It’s probably not a great idea, Māui realizes, sprinting right towards the lava demon who tried to kill him at least twice, but he does, and the closer he gets to them the more of their apparent conversation he can begin to make out.
“…You really think that’s all it’s going to take? Some puny meatbag simply handing the Heart back, telling me she forgives me for the way I’ve been behaving for the past thousand years?”
A pause, as Moana, taken aback by the lava demon’s words, collects herself.
“But…” she starts. “But you’re only behaving this way because your Heart was stolen! I know who you really are, Te Kā, and this isn’t the real you!”
Another deep, grating laugh bubbles out of Te Kā. “Maybe a thousand years ago, child. I know who I truly am. I’m Te Fiti, Giver of Life, and Goddess of all things green and beautiful. You know, the whole works,” she spits out mockingly. “Or, well, that’s what I used to be. Now I’m Te Kā, Goddess of Fire and Lava – and bringer of death to all things green and beautiful,” she hisses, clearly amused by her own joke. “And know something else, meatbag? I don’t want the Heart anymore. It’s useless to me, and you’ve got good ol’ Tangaroa to thank for that. Instead of simply bringing my heart back to me myself – and don’t you dare try to argue that the ocean wasn’t capable, because I just saw it part for you – he decided to wait to find some special Chosen One to bring it back for me. And not just any Chosen One, oh no. Apparently Tangaroa thought it’d be a great idea to send a child to come to my rescue.”
Moana opens her mouth, but is cut off by Te Kā’s scoff. “And you want to know what else? What’s so great about some Chosen One coming to look for me instead of, oh, I don’t know, my own father bringing it back to me instead?” she pauses for a second, but doesn’t give Moana time to respond. “You’re only here because you have to be. Oh, I can imagine the real reason you’re here. Let me guess. Home island crumbling to pieces? People are dying because there’s no food left?” she pauses, and grins viciously when Moana takes an awkward half-step backwards.
“I–” Moana begins, but wavers and falls silent.
“Bingo. You don’t care about me. You never did. Nobody on this gods-forsaken planet has ever cared about me. So you know what? No, I’m not taking the Heart back. You know why? Because none of it was my fault to begin with. This isn’t my problem to fix, or to care about. I’m going to keep letting this darkness spread until it wipes out every island in the Pacific. And when everyone needs somebody to blame, somebody to get really angry at for what happened to their homes… you know where they’re going to turn?”
Te Kā pivots, and before Māui’s even aware of the situation she’s facing directly towards him. “You,” she spits. “You’re the one who stole the Heart in the first place, so you’re the one who should be responsible for the consequences of your actions. And don’t even bother trying to smooth-talk your way out of this one, because who’s going to believe whatever story you come up with, anyway? Moana? It’s not like she’ll want to see you after this whole ordeal is over… especially once her island is wiped off the face of the earth.”
A wicked grin spreads across Te Kā’s face. “As a matter of fact, maybe I should kill her, just to make it harder for you to find someone who will support you after this mess is over with.”
She pivots back around to face Moana – but before she even raises her arm, Te Kā freezes as another idea hits her.
“No, you know what? I’ve got a better idea. I’ll take the Heart back; I’ll restore life to your islands, but only under one condition.”
“Anything,” Moana says, desperation writ large in her voice.
Te Kā grins, and it’s the most terrifying thing Māui has ever seen. “You sail home, you let me kill Māui, and you let his stories go out with him. What do you say, Chosen One?”
There’s a pause, and past the smoke and bright molten lava of Te Kā’s form, Māui can see Moana taking a step forward towards Te Kā. For the briefest, briefest of seconds, Māui’s considering asking Moana what she’s doing, but before he can even open his mouth Moana leaps forward off the rock to stand in front of him, arms spread out in a protective gesture.
“No,” Moana grits out without hesitation, with just as much hardness in her tone as Te Kā’s. “I would never. I know he can be pretty selfish and pig-headed sometimes, but he doesn’t deserve this. If it weren’t for him, I never would’ve made it across the sea. He’s the one who taught me to sail.”
Moana shakes her head, but she refuses to drop her protective gesture from around Māui. “If it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t be alive right now. He sacrificed his hook for my life, Te Kā. His hook. If that doesn’t mean a thing to you, if you still think that he’s not capable of changing for the better after witnessing that, I don’t know what would.” Moana pauses in her little speech, and it’s only in this short pause that Māui realizes that Moana’s panting. But she either doesn’t realize she’s doing it, or she doesn’t care, because she continues on anyway.
“Māui doesn’t deserve to die for his wrongdoings. He’s capable of change. He’s good on the inside, Te Kā. I know he is. I’ve seen it myself. There has to be some other way. There has to be a way for him to redeem himself. Because as much as I’d love to restore my island, and all of those other islands out there…” she pauses, and glances down at the Heart of Te Fiti still pulsing in her hand. “I could never live with myself knowing that I just handed Māui over to get killed like that. There has to be some other way. Please,” she says, balling her hands up into fists. “Please.”
Te Kā eyes Moana, the way she’s shielding Māui from her, the way she’s protecting him, and snorts, a thin jet of smoke issuing from her mouth.
“You really think that mini-god is worth protecting? Do you really think that he, a trickster, is capable of changing for the better? Your precious island isn’t the only one affected by the curse. I’m surprised to see you still standing at all, as a matter of fact, seeing as most of the islands the curse has reached are simply piles of ash scattered around the Pacific. He caused all of this, Moana, and he’s done nothing to stop it. He just sat around, watching everything crumble around him, because he doesn’t care. Even now! Was Māui the one who tried to give my heart back? Was he the one who apologized for all of my hurt and suffering over the last millennium? No! He just sat back and expected a human, of all things, to do it for him! You can’t defend him for his wrong-doings. You can’t just tell him that everything’s going to be okay because he’s a good person. He’s been doing this for millennia. Far, far before you were even conceived. He screws up, angers a god or two, and then never faces the consequences for it. He comes up with some pathetic excuse to make up for it, and he always ends up getting away with it – just because he meant well, or just because the Gods are still soft on him and remember the times when he was still an unwanted, unloved little runt. So Has it ever gotten through to that massive head of his that maybe he should just leave things be? No. He just shrugs it off, waits a century or two, and then screws up again. And where does that leave you meatbags? Humanity has been forced to bear the consequences that aren’t even yours. This is no different. You restore my heart, he gets off scot-free, and in few centuries he’s going to make the same exact mistake all over again.”
Te Kā pauses to glance at the duo, and doesn’t miss at all the way Moana refuses to stand down, or the way that she shifts to block Te Kā’s path to Māui whenever the lava demon so as much tilts her head. A new idea comes to Te Kā at the sight, and Te Kā finds herself fighting back a malicious grin. Oh, this will be so much better than simply ending Māui’s life right away. “You don’t want me to kill him? You insist he is capable of good? Fine. I’ll humor you. I won’t kill him. But, to assure this kind of thing will not happen again, he is to journey across the sea and right every wrong he has ever committed. Every god he’s ever angered, every being he’s ever wronged, he must reconcile with every single one of them. Then, and only then, will I forgive him – only then will I accept my heart back.” This time Te Kā actually does smile.
“And to assure he actually leaves, you, Moana, are to accompany him. Because this will likely take centuries, I will bestow upon you a gift. You will no longer age, nor fall ill. You will never die. However, until Māui finishes what he sets out to do, you will suffer immensely. You will feel the pain of everyone he has ever wronged, including me, and this curse will not be lifted until he has reconciled with them all. Do we have a deal?” Te Kā asks.
Before Moana can even open her mouth to say another word, Māui shoves her arm out of the way and turns to stand in front of her, lifting his arms up in the protective gesture she had been using on him. “Are you insane?” he grits out. “I’m not dragging Moana into this! Even if she does become immortal, even if she wouldn’t technically be able to die, do you know how many people out there want me dead? Do you have any clue how many people I’ve gotten in trouble with? Forcing Moana to feel all of their collective pain for all eternity? That alone could kill her, and that’s not even including what could happen when we actually encounter these guys!”
Māui shakes his head at himself, angrily, and takes a deep breath. This is the last thing he needs right now, to anger Te Kā even further, and if he keeps this up, keeps attacking her when she’s vulnerable, then, well, for all he knows, she could put Moana through something worse, just to spite him. She could force Moana to feel all of their collective hatred towards him. She could place a permanent curse on Motunui that would remain even after all of the other islands are freed.
She could kill Moana right here, right now, without so much as the blink of an eye.
Māui sighs.
“Look, I get it! I really do! You’re angry at me, a lot of people out there are angry at me, and you want me to fix my mistakes. Done! I’ll leave right now. I’ll even come back to check in and see how you’re doing every few centuries, if you’d like. But please, Te Kā, leave Moana out of this. What has she ever done to you? Tried to help you? Offered to give your heart back to you? She doesn’t deserve any of this.”
There’s a short pause, and Māui almost thinks that Te Kā’s considering his point, but she just shakes her head and cracks a grin horrifying enough to drain the color from Māui’s face.
“That, mini-god, is exactly why she does deserve it. It’s not about what she’s done for me. It’s about what she’s done for you. You’re attached to her. She’s somebody you like, no? The reason poor Moana has to go through all of this is so I can be sure you actually leave. Besides…” she draws out the word in a way that makes Māui shudder, “you’re too late, little one. The curse has already been placed. It’ll take effect soon enough. She will suffer, no matter what you do. And the only way to end her suffering is to accomplish exactly what I’ve asked of you.”
Te Kā stops, and pivots, like she’s planning to return to her barrier island.
“Wait!” Māui shouts suddenly as an idea comes to him, and Te Kā stops. “Wouldn’t that be a little, I dunno, boring for you?”
Te Kā blinks. “Excuse me?”
“Me, sailing around with Moana,” Māui explains. “She’s the only friend I’ve got. Possibly the only person in the entire Pacific who can stand to be around me. Curse or no, don’t you think it’s possible that I could end up enjoying myself, at one point or another?”
He’d never end up having a good time, truthfully, if he ended up stuck on a boat with Moana if she was going to end up miserable and in pain the entire time. But if he could just think of something, someone else to come with him instead of Moana – if he could figure out how to get Te Kā to lift the curse so that Moana gets to home and be safe and sound for the rest of her life… Then, well, being stuck on a boat for the next millennia with anyone would be enjoyable by comparison.
And he means anyone.
Te Kā looks like she’s listening, so Māui clears his throat. “Why not send me off with someone who can’t stand me? Wouldn’t that be more fun to watch? Me, stuck on a boat with somebody who hates my guts?” Māui grins, trying as hard as he can to hide the true reason behind his suggestion. “I could probably list a good number off the top of my head. A lone survivor on a dead island? The spirit of some monster I killed a few centuries ago? Tamatoa, even! Why send me off with my best and only friend? Wouldn’t that be a little, I don’t know, vanilla of you?”
A long pause, and this time Te Kā actually looks like she’s seriously considering his words. Finally, she hisses in annoyance. “As much as it pains me to admit this, you do make a good point. Tamatoa, eh? I remember hearing of the falling out between you and that tiny creeping crustacean spawn. The legends say you two can’t stand each other to this very day! Now that sounds like something I’d just love to see play out.”
Māui’s about to sigh in relief, and he’s about to drop his protective gesture from around Moana, he really is, but then Te Kā speaks again.
“They will both accompany you. Your pathetic human pet, if you will, as well as Tamatoa.” A pause. “But, seeing as he has grown to a size far too massive to fit on a human canoe, I shall put a curse on him, too. For the entire duration of the trip, Tamatoa will be trapped in the body of a man. Once the mission is complete, he will return to his normal form and size and will once more return to his place in Lalotai. But if you refuse, mini-god…” She glares at him. “I will kill both you and Moana on the spot. What do you say, demigod? Do we have a deal?”
Silence.
If he doesn’t leave, he dies, and Moana dies… Besides the fact that she’s his best friend, well… knowing how wonderfully accurate human legends about him are, there’s a chance word will spread that it was all his fault. Knowing Te Kā, she’ll probably be the one to spread the story herself. The story of how the once great demigod Māui tried to sacrifice a human girl’s life to restore the Heart of Te Fiti, but still failed anyway, getting himself killed in the process. He’d be a laughingstock. Everyone over on Motunui would hate him, and it wouldn’t be long before his more heroic stories would be lost to the sea forever.
On the other hand, he leaves, and forces Moana to stick around in agony for the next thousand or so years. He’s going to be sailing around quite possibly for the rest of his immortal life trying to fix the wrongs he already sought forgiveness for centuries ago. He’s going to be stuck on a boat with Tamatoa, of all people, and he wouldn’t even be able to defend himself if the crab tried to pull something funny, because his hook has been–
Wait. His hook.
“What about my hook?” Māui asks, not quite daring to look Te Kā in the eyes. Eyes? Lava cavities? Whatever.
“What about your hook?” Te Kā spits back. “It’s gone. I destroyed it.”
“Exactly!” Māui argues back immediately. “It’s gone. I don’t have it anymore. And seeing as that I used my hook for most of the problems I’ve caused with the Gods, wouldn’t it make sense that I would need it to reconcile with them as well? All of my shapeshifting powers came from that hook, Te Kā. Everyone knows this. So if I don’t have my hook, how do you expect me to set out at all?”
Te Kā groans. “Ooh, I hate admitting that you’re right. It just gives me this sick, burning feeling in my stomach. You know a different kind of burning than the one I feel every second of every day. Wait here.” Reaching a hand down, she pulls a chunk of volcanic rock from her barrier island and beats it against the palm of her hand, until it forms into a club like the ones Māui remembers from the southern islands: a patu ōnewa. She brings it back over to the duo and holds it up.
Well, it’s no hook, but Māui would be lying to himself if he said this wasn’t just about the coolest thing he’s ever seen. Barely suppressing an excited squeal, he reaches out for it – but just before he can take it, Te Kā yanks it away from him.
“I will give this to you only if you agree to go and do this for me. And as much as I hate you, and as hilarious as it would be to watch you failing to heft this thing, I’ll explain how this works.”
“Your shape-shifting powers will, unfortunately, function just as well with this weapon as they did with your hook. For you see, it does not matter what weapon you wield, demigod, so as long as you’re able to transfer some of your magic into it.” She grins at Māui’s flabbergasted expression. “Your hook doesn’t seem that special after all, now, does it? You could’ve gotten those shape-shifting powers from any object, as long as you knew how to wield it correctly. But seeing as this is a simple club, I doubt that even you could screw this thing up.” She holds out the weapon to Māui again. “So, which is it, demigod? Will you take this weapon and right what is wrong, or will you refuse, and be killed alongside your little friend here?”
Māui closes his eyes and takes a deep breath. Because as much as he can’t stomach the thought of what’ll happen when Moana’s curse takes effect, and as much as he really can’t stand Tamatoa…
Nothing would be worth the risk of sacrificing Moana’s life. Especially not something that wasn’t her fault to begin with.
“Deal,” he mutters, and reaches forward to take the patu ōnewa from Te Kā’s stretched out palm.
“Good,” Te Kā responds, and flicks her wrist out towards the ocean. “Now go. Your first stop will be Lalotai, to go pick up Tamatoa. His curse should kick in right about… now. Good luck, little ones…” She winks. “Or not. I really couldn’t care less.”

Hi, you seem to have lots of opinions on fics (esp. Glowfics) and I'm reading radiance right now. So I was wondering if you have any good fanfic recommendations for when I finish c:
Ooooh okay I can do this :D I’m not sure if you want recs for glowfic or fanfic or both or what, so I’m gonna err on the side of Everything.
Cut for Much Length.
Part 1: Glowfic Collections
If you’d like another big reading project to start on, boy do I have recommendations for you.
Effulgence. I’d describe Effulgence as the paradigmatic glowfic. (Don’t be daunted to the fact that the link is to a ‘how to read’; it is not in fact tricky to read. There’s a series of links on an index page, and you can just read through each in order.) The basic conceit is that Alicorn writes AU versions of Bella-from-Luminosity into tons of different fanfic universes, and then all of them meet up and take over the universe and also cuddle a lot. The exciting other half is Kappa(/Pyth/@shitifindon), Alicorn’s cowriter for Effulgence; Kappa writes various AU versions of the Joker (yes, from Batman) who are fantastic adorable masochists and fall madly in love with the AU-Bellas (“Bells”). The shipping is so adorable. I cannot recommend it enough.
Silmaril. Probably the biggest glowfic continuity (“story spanning a bunch of worlds that meet up”) aside from Effulgence, and (unlike Effulgence) currently updating, so it’s talked about a lot in the community right now. Hence, a good choice if you want to hop right into the discussions. (Please do!!) The writers for this one are Alicorn and Lintamande, the latter of whom writes a fantastic Lord-of-the-Rings setting with a cast of Elves from the Silmarillion who are traumatized and fantastic and huggable.
Particularly Good Threads. Okay, this one is cheating, but it’s worth linking. People on the forum are trying to compile a list of recommended glowfics. Some of them are not necessarily maximally recommended to someone new to glowfic, but people put brief explanations of what they’re reccing them for, so it should hopefully still be helpful.
Part 2: Individual Glowfics
The thing about glowfics is that they tend to spin off each other – Lintamande decides to write her elf characters in space this time, Alicorn has a version of Bella who is male and a demon visit, he ends up interestingly traumatized from that, then Kappa goes “hey can we write about what would happen if that interestingly traumatized Bell met my version of a character from the Vorkosigan Saga who was from a different universe and then met a monument and now travels in a floating canoe,” and you end up with a really fantastic story which no one can make sense of unless they have read, like, a dozen prerequisite threads.
So I can’t just recommend my favorite glowfics, because none of them would make sense; and you can’t really just start browsing through the glowfics on the Constellation unless you’re willing to put up with half of them being nonsensical. Reading through Effulgence will help a lot with that, as will getting familiar with the casts of a few of the more prolific glowficcers (Kappa writes the Joker, Miles Vorkosigan, Tony Stark, and Sherlock Holmes a lot; Pedro writes Sadde, who’s original to him; Lintamande has her various Elves). For the moment, though, here’s some glowfics that require relatively little context.
blood sweat tear: A fairy Bell meets Miles Vorkosigan. Works well without much context because Miles is figuring out what’s going on, so you can figure it out along with him.
in spite of a nail: An episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, if Bella were the Slayer and Kappa’s Sherlock were a vampire.
Lindworm: A classic fairy tale, with Bella as the heroine and a Joker as the dragon.
there’s only so much I can turn into: A good introduction to Sadde, since you’ve read Luminosity already! Getting to know Sadde will make a lot more glowfic accessible. Addy finds a Sadde.
in which a Bell is the second coming of Christ: exactly what it sounds like, and fantastic. No context needed.
Pre-Jump Earth Literature: a good introduction to Miles Vorkosigan, in his canon setting. And you get a gander at the popular Miles/Yvette ship!
Uninvited Guests are Welcome Here: another case where both sets of characters are a bit lost and explaining their worlds to each other, which makes it an excellent introduction to those worlds.
you know what they say about the young: Matilda (yes, from Roald Dahl) appears in Middle-Earth and makes friends with a very tiny Feanor. Excessive adorableness ensues.
A Table for Two: Gregor, the emperor of Barrayar from the Vorkosigan Saga, meets … Hannibal. From Hannibal. It is very satisfying.
More Than One Kind Of Artifact: another characters-explain-their-worlds-to-each-other thread. A Bell from an original world with magic artifacts meets magical-girl Edie and Emily (who are the AU offspring of Magneto and Professor X, but that’s a whole nother thing…)
Part 3: Shameless Plugging
You didn’t think I was going to let you get away without reccing you a couple of my own glowfics, did you? :D
For context: Jean is my spy/revolutionary/actor/bundle of issues/world’s worst planner. Faith is my teenage antichrist who keeps trying to fix the world by taking it over via mind control and otherwise making very bad decisions.
the prettiest song I heard: a Jean in an original universe of Kappa’s gets really, really fucked up, and then falls in love. (So many warnings. So many warnings. I am serious about the warnings. But if you like that sort of thing…)
one for sorrow (two for joy): a Jean attempts to kidnap a prince and accidentally falls in love with him in the process. Hilarity ensues.
don’t let’s ask for the moon: set in an original universe of Alicorn’s, but not much of that actually comes up. (People get magic from eclipses.) Jean rescues Adelene’s character Denice from an institution; there is adorableness.
neither fish nor fowl: Jean and Denice in Star Wars, and this time she is the one rescuing him from himself. Jean does not make a very good Jedi.
Out of the Blue: Faith and Throne’s character Theo explore vampires in an original setting. Mistakes are made. So many of them.
Incipio: Faith and Theo again, in Buffy the Vampire Slayer this time.
Part 4: Fanfic
Taking a break from the glowfic for a while! Here’s some general fanfic recommendations.
At the End of All Things: If you’d like to meet Lintamande’s Elves outside of a glowfic setting, she’s got an enormous (in-progress) story about Elves brought back to life in the modern day! It is fantastic and depressing!
The Stone Gryphon: a serious, historical-fiction take on the Narnia books, and the events in England that happened in between them. Amazing historical tie-ins, and strikes a nice balance in its attitude towards the more spiritual aspects of the Narnia books which I think a lot of fics have trouble with.
The Foodieverse: an astonishingly well-written Avengers AU … in which all the characters are involved in the restaurant industry. Captain America has a food truck. It’s amazing.
Five Places Cinna Came From: a series of Hunger Games AUs, exploring different possible backstories for Cinna and doing a ton of worldbuilding along the way.
Move Fast and Break Things: @ozymandias271’s now-complete Avengers AU, with female!disabled!Tony Stark, adorable!Bucky, and general amazingness.
Steve Rogers at 100: Celebrating Captain America on Film: a story wrapped around accounts of Captain America movies, good and bad, that might have existed in-universe. I am so delighted by this kind of worldbuilding.
Part 5: Original Fiction
You didn’t ask, but I am sharing some online favorites anyway!
Worm: If you have not read it yet, you should! A gritty-superheroes narrative, distinguished from the million others in the genre by the really awesome thought that’s put into powers. Everyone thinks of inventive ways to use their powers and does it. Warning: super long. And depressing. Read it anyway! There are glowfics set there!
Goldmage: An original novel of Alicorn’s! Delightful worldbuilding, sweet and exciting and depressing, read it read it read it.
Elcenia: An immense work of original fiction by Alicorn. Very glowficcy in some ways (and lots of glowfics are set there, so that’s another reason to read it). In the first book, a woman is accidentally magically transported between worlds, and explored Alicorn’s super-thoroughly-worldbuilt original setting while figuring out exciting ways to leverage the contact. Each subsequent book takes some minor character or characters from previous books and tells their story. This has the delightful effect that you can then reread it, and when Random Dude #12 is being grumpy and unreasonable you know it’s because he’s just had his best friend kidnapped and is having to pretend nothing happened as part of an elaborate plot involving telepathic vampires (no, not a real example).
Cordyceps: Another one popular in the same general circles as Luminosity is. Mystery/horror/post-apocalyptic, and marvelous. And depressing and needs a lot of warnings -- you may be sensing a theme here.
Part 6: Other People
Other glowficcers on tumblr who might have recs for you, off the top of my head: @luminousalicorn @kelsbraintumbler @scientiststhesis @curiosity-discoverer-of-worlds @shitifindon @lintamande @aestrix @trickytalks @throne3d @marrinikari @ansiblelesbian @inquisitivefeminist @mischiefmanaged777twoofus @erinflight and I’m sure I’m still forgetting people. They are all way more approachable than you think! At least if you are like me and decide people are scary and unapproachable for no particular reason!
All y’all I tagged -- any other rec ideas? :D

Title: I fall in love (everyday with someone new) - Chapter 24: Sharing clothes (R2) Collaborator: scriptatur Link: AO3 Square Filled: R2 - sharing clothes Ship: Stuckony Rating: Gen Major Tags: polyamory, Endgame fix-it Summary: "Waking was- surprising. He woke up slowly, like drifting through mist or sirup or- something. He was kind of confused, if he is being perfectly honest. Confused about his own metaphor, a bit, but mainly confused by the fact that he was, well, waking up. That was not something he’d expected to do, after all." When Tony Stark wakes up after the final battle against Thanos, he decides that there will be nothing more that stands between himself and happiness. He goes home with Pepper and Morgan and it doesn't take long for Steve and Bucky (and other (ex-)avengers) to follow. Basically, this is the fix-it that I needed. Natasha, wearing nothing but the silk pink robe he had gotten her last year, places a basket of warm blueberry muffins on the table. She leans forward and presses a kiss to Tony’s forehead. He can feel the warmth of her mouth, even after she pulled away. “You’re awake. Just in time.” “Good, he needs the sleep.” Steve wanders in next, shirtless and only wearing his blue silk pants. He’s carrying a jug of orange juice with a smile. “Good morning.” His hands are big, deft and encompassing as Steve pulls Tony in for a searing kiss. His mouth is like molten fire, and Tony thinks it might swallow him whole, as Steve plunders and takes. They separate with a gasp, Tony’s head spinning in confusion, the blood hot in his face. (...) Which was exactly what had happened in their neighboring kingdom just a few days ago. Daddy Dearest apparently had gotten himself into some huge mess with his mages. Howard was probably dead by now, Tony at least was sure of that, knowing said mages personally.
