Nothing shows more contempt for the genre, the medium, and especially the audience than the presence of itermittent atmospheric music in found footage.
I'm serious.
Unless it's a supernatural horror where the premise is the entity emits a spooky sound when nearby, don't do it.
Have the confidence in your own moviemaking to let your work stand on its own. Have the respect for your audience to trust that they know what they signed up for, and that they therefore don't expect and don't want music. If you think your scariest moments won't scare me without freaky deaky sound effects, you either think you did a poor job or think I am so deficient in imagination and taste that I cannot be scared without it. Or both. STOP IT.
#this post is about evil things#im so mad rn#10 minutes shorter#without that obnoxious droning mood music#and it would have been stellar#it was such a strong film#it DID NOT NEED the noise#if you don't realize how TERRIFYING the sound of breathing and footsteps and nothing else can be#WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS MEDIUM#what REALLY makes me mad#is the last 10 minutes#trying to be v/h/s and snuff and creep all rolled into one#when the VERY CLEAR PREMISE we were introduced to in the beginning#is that this is camcorder footage of folks who went missing#found and logged by searchers#meaning it is neither v/h/s#nor snuff#NOR creep#this film's editor failed it SO FUCKING HARD#it could have been great#instead of something tremendously promising#that took a hard left and Suckass Rd#right at the end#ARRRRRRGH
